                                                   The Story:

Home life was toxic for Doris. Her parents never loved each other and it was terribly clear. Her father married her mother because she was young and pretty, her mother married him because he was rich and would give her whatever she wanted. She was given all a child could ask for – all material things anyway. But the house was quiet, and at those fleeting moments when it wasn’t, it was usually a screaming match between her parents. Always fighting over money. She watched the two of them, and as she grew up she began to emotionally remove herself from them, because to her it was clear that they were perfectly designed to torture each other.

Her outlet was studying, science and the mysteries it held. It gave her validation in her desire to experiment and watch what happened. Her excellence in her school work made her father proud and so he encouraged her the best and only way he knew – he threw money at her and her college. He got her the best equipment, the best tutors and the best chance at being …well … the best. And while all this money was being spent on their daughter, her mother grew angry, because in her eyes, it was wasting her money. This tension between the two women only increased with age and soon Doris would do as little as possible to engage with her mother.
