well, this episode? ben chooses stella. but when that choice falls through... he goes to the friar. and when that choice falls through, finally, he goes to ros.

and ros? she’s never gonna forgive escalus (and she never should), which just leaves... ben.

the choice element on their relationship, of someone choosing them as their priority is lost.

and that’s my biggest issue here.

so I re-read the book and it’s crazy how different tv-Escalus is from book-Escalus. thank god tv-Escalus knew he had feelings for Rosaline from the beginning because book-Escalus not realizing he was in love with her until Isabella had to point it out (and he STILL was confused) was so irritating to read. i definitely appreciate the show giving Escalus some redeeming qualities because book-Escalus SUCKS (he purposely set Rosaline up by escorting her out of the ball & getting her drunk so that he could manipulate her! what the fuck!)

it’s funny how the show focused on trust between Rosaline x Escalus and Rosaline x Benvolio (Escalus asking Benvolio why Rosaline trusts him, “hes the one you want...hes the one you trust” “i trust YOU”) when the book has so much more reason to focus on trust. tv-Escalus still did the bedroom thing but when he told Rosaline he wanted to be with her, he meant it; romeo’s tomb reminded him of what was at stake and forced him to change his mind. still a reason not to trust him on Rosaline’s part but compared to what book-Escalus did this is forgivable -- so it’s funny how tv-Rosaline struggles with forgiving tv-Escalus but book-Rosaline was a second away from marrying book-Escalus had she not run away to help Benvolio

I forgot that Romeo’s tomb was attacked in the middle of the night after Rosaline was with Escalus and that is what changed Escalus’ mind....damn

I have something to confess: i really did not like benvolios actor. I dont know if it was the hairstyle or that mustache/beard, or Just the actor but god... I was like: thats the love interest of "i practially glow because am half angel/half greek goddess Lashana Lynch??

hi! hm. i mean i feel that was also the point that he was the underdog and the lesser montague though? even in comparison with the actors who played romeo and prince escalus, you're meant to just be like "eh, i guess he's alright" so he grows on you as he grows on rose. its a whole separate conversation that benvolio is white and his love-rival for rose was Escalus, a Black man. but for me, it worked that he was kinda just Some Guy compared to everyone else in the cast. plus, i LOVED Wade Briggs' performance and he and lashana had some of the best chemistry i've ever seen. but hey, to each their own! i can definitely see your point that anyone seems unworthy next to lashana's beauty, but rosaline deserved to be with someone who fkn ADORED her the way benvolio did. x
