Making other stuff besides drawings/writing/pinterest boards for your ocs is very fun guys.. i think a lot of people are long term obsessed with their ocs like me and may have run out of ideas, so we need to make this common practice.. :>! some things ive done:

ZINES: ive made 3 collage zines about the same character including imagery and poetry from the perspective of 3 other characters, including his partner, best friend/situationship, and mother. it can also be informational, comics, etc, but i like poetry the best since my ocs are imagery/lore heavy, and i do cutout poetry which can feel like a puzzle.. its fun to go hunting through magazines and books. challenge urself to find words/images naturally and not print anything out. ITS FUN. i use "legal" type paper, which is slightly longer than A4, because we bought it on accident AND it makes the zine pages slightly, but noticeably, bigger, which is nice.

WEBSITES: i made a carrd to store in-depth character information that i can easily share with people. i also made toyhouse profiles. the customization is extremely fun, and a website seems more "official" than a regular google doc! with toyhouse, its been a while but i believe you can also set up character relationships and things like that.

PROFILES: spacehey.com is a myspace lookalike. i made a fitting email for one of my ocs and an account :D he uses it as a diary / place for rambling which is very fun to do in character, idc if its cringe. you can also customize the profile a lot to reflect the character, which is my fave part. You can do this with other social media of course, but i chose spacehey because of the customization and because my story is set in the late 2000s.

PHYSICAL OBJECTS: this costs money, but i also sometimes (very rarely because i like to reduce clutter..) collect things that reflect my ocs, or things that my ocs would own. i have a very special lamb plush and a black dog plush to remind me of my ocs, and sitting them together makes me feel so silly, but it is very cute.

PAPER STUFF: adding onto this, ive also seen people make paper dolls + paper belongings like wallets (think of a library card, Polaroids, receipts, their ID, etc..) .. VERY CUTE. you can also make paper dolls digitally of course. i havent done this but may in the future!

JOURNALS: i made a journal for my oc by writing in their POV. i made the mistake of getting a normal-sized one, i recommend getting a tiny journal so that you can actually fill it. an entire journal usually has way too much space to fill unless you're more insane than me. doesn't have to only be writing, you can include receipts / pictures / stickers / polaroids based on what your oc would put. obviously. AND, you can pick out a journal or make a journal cover that fits your oc's aesthetic. yay.

ALBUM COVERS: since my ocs are in a band, i created their album cover by collaging (you can also do it digitally, draw, photos, etc) which was SO fun. i cut it to size and put it in a CD case! the other album cover i made was digital, and i made the back with all the songs, fake publisher/record label, etc! eventually i plan to burn a cd with songs that sound similar to their band!

CDS: if your ocs dont make music, you can still burn CDs with either songs they would listen to, songs that they would sing to/sound like their voice, or songs that fit their character arc / personality. you can also make one that a character would make FOR another character, very cute.

SOUNDTRACK: make a soundtrack for your ocs' game/show/movie, and if you want, do it based on time period and location. genres are extremely fun to play with, and finding background tracks is surprisingly rewarding (i include a lot of NIN). ITS VERY FUN!!

BAG TOURS: similar to this post. i havent done this yet, but it seems like a really good way to develop your characters' personalities, day to day lives, and interests/needs :) ive even thought about collecting the real objects instead of just drawing or collaging bahahah. maybe one day !

CAST / VOICE CLAIMS: if an actor were to play your oc, who would it be? if someone was to voice act your oc, who would it be/what would it sound like? you can write this down or make clips of audio to show off ^__^ it takes a lot of digging sometimes and i love doing this for both my human ocs and my ponies.

MEMES: making memes of your ocs is smth i used to do constantly, it was very fun ! self explanatory mostly !

...TAGGING: this is very fun, but ive never heard anyone besides me do it BAHAH. i came up with tags for 2 of my ocs to write with paint markers. don't do this with expensive markers, they will get torn up depending on the surfaces you're writing on OBVIOUSLY. they can be as simple or complex as u want. come on. get into character. what is your character writing on that wall over there? .... i know this might be silly but its genuinely so fun and a way to integrate your ocs irl. BAHAHAHAH.

AND, most problematically, you can method act which i do not recommend doing for years on end because it has fundamentally changed me as a person. have fun ! that's all i can think of right now

now see. the thing is. i can't really give an Informed answer.

i'm not very far into earthspark, but he does begin that series as an "autobot" so its not like i missed any buildup. i like his attitude in that series (unrelated but also his scottish accent...i adore his voice and it fits him really well actually) it's nice that (from what i've seen) he still disagrees with optimus quite a lot but they're more willing to talk things out, which is the perfect situation of a redeemed megs imo. like when he stands up for imprisoned decepticons now that the war is over and optimus is like "hmmm i suppose you have a point." im glad switching sides didn't make him automatically throw away all his previous ideals.

now mtmte/LL megs? here's the thing. i Love mtmte/ll megs. probably my favorite incarnation of him so far. i'm a sucker for villains and an even bigger sucker for villains with redemption arcs, so no surprise there. but. i read mtmte/ll without reading any of the prior idw comics except last stand of the wreckers. so i cant really say if his character in mtmte does his redemption Well Enough to make up for whatever he did in the rest of the idw continuity bc i havent seen it! i dont know how bad the bad gets! it's entirely possible (and in fact i'm getting the idea that this is the case) that idw megs feels like a completely different character (i.e. far more ruthless and mindlessly violent) than the thoughtful, if not stern, co captain we see in mtmte megs. and in that case, maybe it spoils mtmte megs a little bit bc it wont feel realistic.

that being said...even if that's true...i probably won't care lmao. i haven't read a comic series in a WHILE (not since i was into xmen in like 2017 and even then i wasn't very into the comics themselves) but i know that comics get handed off to various writers through their run that makes them often retcon or not follow well between one another. i've quickly learned that everyone pretty much hails james roberts as king while the rest of the writers are more hit or miss (and i think i agree) so even if idw megs was totally irredeemable and james roberts did it anyway i would not care. because in his story? in mtmte? it Works. it works really well.

from mtmte i went in still having knowledge overall of what megatron is like (i'd seen the 86 movie, clips of g1, tfone, and all of transformers prime at that point) so i still had a guage of what redeeming megatron meant. and it still hit really well for me. particularly the fact that he was still Kind Of feeling out being good or not after his trial, along with how he visibly had to grow into being good. it took a WHILE for him to get to a point where i was like "okay NOW he's actually finally redeemed." by the time they ended up in the functionist universe and i believed with 100% certainty megs would never betray them or try to run. but earlier on? like when the getaway/tailgate thing happened? i was a bit worried lol. but that scene was handled well too! he did lash out, but he also apologized and didnt intend such harm. growth

and i think this scene alone. this arc. just really made mtmte/ll megs Work.

why I think Ultraman:Rising a one of the better movies in the last months

I watch ALOT of movies, and im not joking, I have alot of free time. and recently I have taken notice that alot of movies, especially animated ones, feel rushed. MAJOR SPOILER ALERT ultra man rising although a long movie, feels really slow. you get to meet Ken Sato. a cocky baseball player, but also; Ultraman! he accidentally picks up a kaiju baby, and is asked to raise it till the baby can go back to its native land, all while fighting the KGB.

ken sato is a cocky baseball player playing for ‘the giants’, with no family, and no friends. he is confident and full of himself, and sure he will make the Giants Great again. all on his own. he doesnt care about his team, and he doesnt care about his reputation. the night of his game he has to work on a Kaiju attack where he saves kaiju baby and takes them to his base. keeping it safe from the KGB, who want to use the baby to find Kaiju Island and kill all Kaiju

i've watched this movie on repeat since it came out, the buildup of the story and the small details and secrets that get revealed as the story progresses keep you guessing and grasping for more. the movie lets you form an attachment to the character, and doesnt rush you by telling you all the ‘lore’ as quickly as possible and then moving on to the problem and how they solve it. 

Ami seems to play a key role in Ken his development, the ‘off the record chat’ seems to open his mind. he asks her how she juggles her job and kid, since he is having a hard time with it. ami says “...they are trying to discover who they are, and what they want. and the only support they have; is us. imperfect messed up us dealing with our own issues. trying to figure out who we are…” 

this strikes ken to free the baby Kaiju, and teaches her Baseball. with trial and error the baby kaiju, named Emi later. explore their bond. safely in the base. the next day when Ken is on a promised follow up interview with Ami, Emi gets out of the base, follows a blip with one of Satos commercials on it. and climbs a tower. ken saves her for falling but breaks her arm in the process and has to ask his dad for help. all of this happens in roughly a hour, see how much that is? how much ive written down about Ken sato and how you got to know him? now this is not all that is shown in the movie, so do watch it if you havent. because this is just the tip of the iceberg. and there is another hour left. 

and in that hour, Emi changes and learns alot. Ken his dad gets more involved. and i havent even mentioned the AI robot that helps ken during this first half of the movie. i dont mention the KGB and their underlying motive. this movie offers so much compared to others ive watched. lets take for example disneys Wish. (dont come at me disney i do still love you) it was fast, i barely got the plot the first time around and i felt rushed and hurried. i watched Wish $ times i still dont really get it. and feel like i havent seen all of the movie. and not just disney, but alot of ‘BIG’ companies lately, have made rushed movies that werent thought through. the story isnt rich and flavourful Pho. but more like a diluted murky beef broth, still good, but less satisfying. the animated movie industry ahs been through some hardship lately, new techniques. and mostly the animators, who work hard for little pay, under alot of stress to make good content cause our attention span doesnt last. and the internet is fast paced. ive made animations, by hand, and its so hard to get it looking good. im here to tell you, Ultraman;Rising is the movie id show people when they ask me “what do you want to do as an animator?” and i say “make something as good as this is.” 

id also like to make it clear that yes, there are good if not better OTHER animated movies, but this is recent and is the best example in the moment.

Okay okay no this was so beautiful that ramble and i need to continue because firstly, i adore that NGE piano scene, everything about is perfect and i cry everytime at it. Im rotating my boys in my head like neutron stars again and it makes me so happy.

Secondly Shorekeeper and Rover relationship seems really cool and deep. Which brings me to something i noticed abot Wuwa, yes it has certain things that can be seen as fanservice and there is definitly stuff i dont like about the game but i feel Wuwa always gives their character always a certain depth to it. Or at least most of the time. I also just got into it recently again because i needed to kill time and wanted to revisit it for a while and just noticed that even stereotypes i dont normally like are well done in Wuwa. Specifically Lumi (i think was her name). She is this kinda stereo very energetic and cute girl but the concept of mouse and light combined with her character make her still unique in a way which didnt make me instantly recall. Im also very iffy with characters getting on strong with the character having seen stuff from certain games im not gonna mention to bring the topic up. But also just it´s often only annoying and doesnt bring anything to the story, like the game and moments would be the same without the forced romantic tension. But with shorekeeper it all makes sense and wouldnt make the same vibe if the relationship wouldnt be this deep.

Honestly i havent played this far yet, but i dont mind spoilers and saw alot from shorekeeper when she released so its fine. Actually your ramble made me super excited to see it for myself now Yippi To end this. OMG THE NGE PIANO SCENE, MY BABYS I MISS THEM

and yeah you're right 🤧🤧🤧— yuusha would try to hide and escape, especially as she overblots bc she would try to avoid hurting people (and like elsa, it'd only hurt others more trying to escape bc of probably how she leaves destruction in her wake trying to make others stay away from her 😔)

(this is a small tangent but i remember thinking about an overblot kalim and i imagine him to be similar, like he would not hurt anyone intentionally in his overblot.)

anyways so the way it would go is that i imagine her friends got fatally injured either because a) she feels that she’s too “useless” without magic to help and wasn’t able to do anything OR b) her attempts at helping to try and prove that she can help without magic made everything worse.

and then she just goes into a guilty spiral then boom — overblot.

ALSO in the song, the way elsa briefly contemplated taking her own life but then realizing there’s no guarantee that would solve anything hnghgh (<- another unintentional parallel to my yuusha lore because that’s actually how she ended up in twst except she did NOT have the latter realization)

there’s this “yuu is dead” theory i’m just using and that the black carriage actually just caught yuusha’s soul after she took her own life from all the burden.

yuusha back in her homeworld is raised and known to be a gifted musician. people can feel the life and soul in her music but when people interact with her, they are usually met with an ice-cold (heh) personality.

the dead family member was the one who taught her music and the only one who was kind to her.

there’s always an expectation from her family to perform well and to keep up appearances as to not be a humiliation since anything she does can reflect on her entire family. (also hi, slight yuusha/jamil parallels maybe???)

the way she presents herself also stemmed from an incident as a child when she went apeshit on another kid bc she was defending a friend.

so from then on she was taught taught to conceal don’t feel those emotions — which just unfortunately extended to any positive ones, not just negative ones like rage.

so when she is brought to twst, there’s no memory of her being forced to hold back her emotions so she’s just unapologetically affectionate and open with everyone bc that’s how she really is.

but every now and then, memories of her breaking down haunt her in her dreams or as subtle reminders in the waking world.

then yuusha just goes on her day like she just wasn't reminded of her past.

(unnecessarily tragic lore my beloved, but anyway—)

okay so out of all the anime ive ever seen, know, or like i think these animes would maybe fit your fancy:

Revolutionary Girl Utena.

spoke about it in my last ask so u can find more info there if u havent already seen it, but please anyone reading this, if u havent seen this anime please PLEASE go watch it. trigger warnings for the things i discussed in the last ask i answered, but it is beautifully animated, it crafts a deep, meaningful, and impactful story about breaking down the patriarchal ideals of what it means to be a "prince" and "princess". how society tries to assign us these roles based off of our gender or sex, and how they affect both men and women in terms of toxic masculinity, and how young girls and women pay the price for it. it is often told in heavy symbolism and metaphors or through a fairy tale like lens, but it all has a purpose. theres a ton of symbolic meaning in it that i still dont understand, even after my most recent rewatch. its stunning, and its queer as hell! directed by none other than kunihiko ikuhara, if anyone is familiar with any of his other popular works (such as the sailor moon R movie, yurikuma arashi, and penguindrum)

2) CLANNAD

HEAR ME OUT i ADORE clannad it is one of my top 5 animes ever and it is BEAUTIFUL. its two seasons total, produced by kyoani, and it is funny, charming, beautiful, and tragic. the second season is its most acclaimed, because After Story is just....breathtaking, but the first season rly starts off good too. the humor is so fucking good, i found myself laughing my ass off all through both seasons and it reads as a harem, but it doesnt follow the exact same harem tropes because the main guy has always had eyes for one girl since day 1 so....sorry ladies this is nagisa's house. also it is based off of an old 2000s otome game so thats why too. but clannad follows the main story, nagisa's route.

the story is essentially about a high schooler named Tomoya Okazaki who hates his dad, the town he lives in, and himself. and on the hill going to school one day he meets a senior, Nagisa Furukawa, and she's talking to herself to calm herself down because she's afraid to go back to school. tomoya overhears and it kinda...resonates with him. so he basically says theyll do it together. and so kicks off their story, about how nagisa's passion to follow her dreams before her senior year is over warms up tomoya's frozen heart and they fall for each other. it has a good cast of characters, like the girls in the cover shown and more, and its a slice of life, drama. beautiful 10/10 definitely recommend. get ur tissues ready tho i will warn u, i stayed crying like a baby lolol

3) Cardcaptor Sakura

another magical girl series if u havent already seen it! a classic among the magical girl genre, i offer you CLAMP's probably highest grossing series, cardcaptor sakura! i grew up on this anime, and im talkin GREW UP i was 9 when i watched this anime in japanese on youtube in 3 parts lmao (i was not fuckin with that 4kids dub ngl) and i adore this anime. granted it is a CLAMP creation, therefore there are some Questionable things in there, but the story, art style, characters, and magic are rly fun!!! plus....SYAORAN LI UM HELLO??? MY SON???? total tsundere brat, but hes a dream boat too yknow????

i wassss going to recommend Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle as my third ngl, because it does have sakura and syaoran as their main protagonists in trc, as well as many other clamp characters (mcu who?) buttttttt tsubasa is always a shot in the dark to recommend to people because 1) the anime sucks. if u want the true, authentic story u gotta read the manga. i am rolling around in my grave for all eternity until tsubasa gets a manga-faithful anime adaptation....and 2) not a lot of people like tsubasa because its unnecessarily convoluted lolol there are definitely gripes i have with certain aspects of its story, but i adore that manga with all my being it is sooo so good.

indecent theology: theological perversions in sex, gender and politics by marcella althaus-reid (sorry for literally recommending theory. im pretty sure u were asking for fiction lol, but this (& althaus-reid in general) is everything to me. if u've any interest whatsoever in theology u should check this one out)

the sluts by dennis cooper (slightly controversial opinion i think? not that the book itself is controversial, just that dennis cooper is very hit and miss at times. this book tho, definite hit. its so intense and convoluted and i loved every second of it. read this before death and sensuality and u're guaranteed to think of nothing else for at least a month)

querelle of brest by jean genet ("those knock-out body fluids: blood, sperm, tears!". kind of a classic since theres also the fassbinder movie but i prefer the book tbh. its been a while since i've read it but it'll forever be in my favourites)

my problem with iwtb... I think?

Okay Im not sure Im eloquent enough to meta my feelings on this topic, I also havent seen enough past season 8s finale to really have perfect opinions on this, but from the clips I see on here and reddit etc. I have issues I need to work out…  

There is something about the characterisation of Mulder in IWTB that really annoys me. And please correct me if Im wrong on his motivations. Usually my protest is the mistreatment of Scully. But in this case I think theres a certain mistreatment of Mulder’s character that really irks the shit out of me. 

Firstly Mulder comes off as Tom Brady in this movie. So single minded and stuck in his ways he couldn’t possibly figure out how to live his life without the one thing that he thinks makes him successful or that he lives for. Two things... its the wrong obsession (more on that in a moment) and this is the opposite of where his character has been hurtling since he met Scully so as written it makes no sense.

The thing mulder was obsessed with and searching for since he was 13 years old was solved. He got his answer when he found out what happened to his sister. He was freed from his lifelong quest. He even was ready to give the agent thing up in the s7 finale, telling Scully the price had been too high and she needed to stop. Meaning he would also be stopping, bc he never wanted to do it without her. Sure he wanted to keep fighting in 8 to protect his baby, but they got rid of the baby atp, so Im not gonna get into that rn.

Turning him into the FBI agent ghost of Tom Brady was… a choice. Throwing away the love of his life, the one who believed him, the one who listened and supported him and loved him back endlessly for what? To help the organisation that tried to murder him? No. I just dont really believe it at all, because it's just not believable. 

Secondly, would he maybe have a midlife crisis? Sure. Would he be lost or depressed? I could absolutely see it, they lost a child found out the aliens were taking over earth. Would Scully commit him rather than leave him alone in that house? For sure. And it would’ve apparently been the culmination of the plot line Morgan and Wong had worked towards since the beginning... 

Realistically, he might've been lost for a while with the end of the quest for his sister. I get it, you work your entire life for something and its always just within reach and when you finally accomplish it, you think well what now? You’d thought, you’d held onto the fact that when you got to the top of the mountain you would feel happy and accomplished and relieved. But when you turn around at the summit from the horizon of the breadth of your work, youre met with yet another peak ahead. Some other goal, some other thing that occupies your mind because thats what your mind is used to.

You’re just going to have a really hard time convincing me for Mulder it was searching for proof of Aliens in random magazines, (when he knows there are aliens and they have invasion plans) instead of preventing the 2012 thing, publishing actual papers under his Luder pseudonym, and making sure Scully knew how much he loved her as his family had never done for him, making sure he made Samantha proud and lived the life she missed once he let her memory rest. 

Thirdly he is intelligent, a psych major with alien superpowers, who graduated from Oxford. Would he be bumbling around making paranormal magazine collages a la Charlie Kelly when he ALREADY knows the endgame? Would he be dealing with random cases and helping the FBI who betrayed him and put him on death row?

Or would he be using Marita Covarrubias and his apparent new power to speak to the dead to try and stop the invasion by any means necessary? Would he be combing over Maritas paperwork, medical records, UN contacts, payment histories to find, like all those bees in Tunisia for example? Would he not be having Scully research this magnetite thing and getting papers written about its properties so that when the hybrids make themselves known there would be literature for people to find? or engineering an anti bee-virus virus? (damn those effing bees btw) Would he not be using every power of his beautiful mind to continue fighting in any way he could, fully of the reservation? 

And could Scully then rightly say don’t bring that darkness into our home? Because my answer would be no. Even if she did go back to being a medical doctor (Im going to ignore the surgeon part because its out of character and would take her redoing residency etc. lets labor under the impression she’s a family doctor or ER doctor). They were right about one thing, the darkness follows them, and would still even if they both stopped looking. Thats the show after all.

Would she maybe have wanted a vacation where he could row her to a deserted island in the adirondacks? Sure. Would she be okay with letting an alien invasion happen in 2012 and saying to Mulder stop fighting? No. When one of them quits the other supports and encourages them back to the mission. Thats the show. If anything Scully having the breakdown about that darkness would’ve made more sense.

Anyway my point being, the transition from Mulder fighting for the big picture to him being a sad shell of himself in his hoarder office, telling Scully they weren't meant to be together is... jarring to say the least, and nonsensical. 😔

Gale's Analysis: 5 things the movie did better and Vice Versa: Miraculous version.

So for this little post I will be writing things I would list that the Miraculous Movie did better for me than the show did and vice versa.

I think both medias have flaws but both also give us something great and I think both should be appreciated.

Rules:

I wont be mentioning ANYTHING asthetic (Thats a budget thing and I wont penalize the show for not having the budget the movie does) These are purely writing choices and scene inclusions.

2. These choices doesnt always mean that the show or Movie handled something badly, it just means I prefer how they were handled. by the Respective media.

3. I will only be including things that are covered in both the film and movie.

4. I would love to hear what you guys preferred and your opinions

I will start off with the Movie and alternate.

(Spoilers if you havent seen the movie or the season 5 finale of the show)

5. Movie: Using Criminals as Akumatized villains

Its such a simple idea, as the Akuma often use the negative emotions of the individuals, and thats what I loved about the movie. Of course if the logic is the more negative the emotions the more powerful, why not recruit the people who let their lives get ruined by their negative impulses.

It ups the danger factor and allows for more cartoonish violence. They get defeated and then get sent to jail. Maybe it makes Akuma seem simpler, but I like it and it results in a villain song that slaps.

5. Show: The way the Heroes were chosen

While on one hand I enjoyed the Kwami picking their chosen in the movie. I actually like how Fu tested the ones in Origins. Both Marinette and Adrien demonstrated their kind hearted and caring natures before getting the miraculous. In the movie we do see Marinette save Fu though unrelated to being chosen, which was great but we dont see Adrien ever do that before becoming Chat noir. And I feel that loses something in the process.

4. Movie: Powers: Stronger together (Not just the song)

The cat and Ladybug miraculous get more powerful when used together. That is something I have wanted since the beginning of the series. It lets both miraculous stand out from the other miraculous and shows why having these two together is such a big deal. This movie does drill it into the viewers head, but its such a cool concept and it is something I wish was in the show.

4. Show: Powers: Lucky Charm

I miss when Ladybug summons an object to help defeat the villain. i know in the movie they go a bit different with how the powers work, but I miss the random items that would then be utilized in order to help them best the bad guys. Marinette is still her clever self when she wants to be in the movie... but it isnt as clear and would have elevated the movie.

3. Movie: Tikki

I think Tikki f***ing kills it in this movie. Her energy, curiosity, her flair. HER RAP! Tikki is exactly what I picture when I see a Kwami of Creation. She was perfect for getting Marinette's butt in gear and being the instigator. She is Marinette's Motivator not her conscience. Tikki has been doing this for Eons and she knows what to do.

3. Show: Plagg

By a MASSIVE Margin, Plagg is much better portrayed in the show. His bond with Adrien is much more pronounced, his personality isnt reduced to being lazy and making Fart jokes. Plagg in the movie does give advice, but Show Plagg has a much more innate care for Adrien even early on. Plagg's bond with Adrien in the show is one of the best things about it.

2. Movie: Ladynoir

Oh I can hear a TON of anger forming from seeing this on my list. But let me explain. I like the fact that they didnt get along right away and grew to like eachother. In the show it makes sense to have them more in sync off the jump, but in the movie it shows how their powers are LINKED to them being closer. So the development is great. And while the show has the appeal of the lovesquare and identities being a secret. The Movie doesnt have that limitation, they are doing the secret identities for their own benefit. Chat noir gets to be more open with Ladybug. And Stronger together as a duet f***ing slaps. Now in the show there are some ladynoir moments that are amazing "Us against the world." Fantastic. And i would argue the show has highs the movies never reached, BUT The problem is though, in the show, that basically gets tossed to the side so often its hard to appreciate it and the lows are more present. In the movie, it is able to keep that basis steady. Plus this movie was made for Ladynoir, lets face it.

2. Show: Marinette and Adrien (As Characters)

I think it is obvious to say that the show has a lot more time to flesh out Marinette and Adrien. Now I do enjoy their movie incarnations, but seeing How Marinette developed her confidence overtime and her reasons for being how she is, as well as Adrien wanting more love and acceptance. The movie never really gets to show how kind and caring both of them are. Something the show gets to demonstrate. Though the flaws are there, it is a deeper ocean to explore. Movie Marinette and Movie Adrien are wonderful, but when it comes to the core, the originals shine brighter.

1. Show: Adrinette (As well as Ladrien and Marichat)

Yes I am swapping back to the show before the movie. I dont care its my list. Adrien and Marinette are f***ing adorable. The umbrella scene is still one of my favorite moments in the series, and seeing how the two fall in love is wonderful. Its a slow burn and its usually pretty damn good. Granted the love rival bump was stupid, but hey not everything is perfect. Also the Ladrien (while not much as much as the other sides) exists in the show and gets a lot of mileage. And Marichat, do I even have to explain? Most of you marichat stans are still watching Elation. The show handles the core aspect that the viewers WANT to see. The slow burn romance. That is where its at. And while the movie does show Adrien and Marinette having some cute encounters, some stuff was cut and it just cant hold a candle to the adrinette in the show.

Its the beauty and love that has me still holding onto the show... no matter the writing choices it has taken. And trust me when I say MY LOVE for the lovesquare has been tested more than Heracles.

1. Movie: Gabriel Agreste

If someone told me I would ever have sympathy for Gabriel Agreste. I would looked them in the eyes and LAUGHED at them. But somehow this movie did what the show failed to do. They turned this neglectful asshole into my favorite part of the movie. The movie makes me understand WHY he is so absent with Adrien, yet still show how much he loves his son. He is a widower lost in grief filled with Survivor's guilt. He is so lost and desperate to bring her back that he was willing to sacrifice his own heart to get her back... but then, he sees his son, damaged by his own hands. He sees the monster he became and it broke him. He fell down and realized he had done something inexcusable in his mind. He let his loss hurt his little boy.

The movie doesnt get as much time as the show to flesh out Gabriel, but sweet kwami does the movie show more than enough. We see his intial reluctance, we see his grief win over and then his obsession and hatred growing. We see him get disheveled and at the brink yet still checking on his son. We see him realize how far gone he is and just let the darkness take control, and finally we see the revelation! Him waking up to the truth, what he did to his son. He breaks down, he confesses. THIS is a Gabriel that you understand how he fell. This Gabriel was shown to the Audience. But you know what the best part is? He isnt shown as a hero, Paris knows he became a villain. He does get to hug his son and apologize, but he acknowledges his wrongs.

The show did have a chance to do that (I would say season 2 was their best bet) But sadly they tossed that out and the ending of the Agreste arc (as far as we know because everyone says its not the end. But its the end.) Was not what I call good.

So when it comes down to it, Gabriel Agreste became the Villain once dreamed he would be in this movie.

how do you feel about some writers equating hyperfemininity to being infantile / chidlike in nature? i really appreciate the work that you're doing, however this was a really big point that a lot of people were making which i'm noticing is getting lost underneath a lot of this. how often do you notice this happening and if it's common then what can be done to better it?

um… if u want me to be quite honest i dont think that the two people who are being bashed for the majority of this write their readers to be infantile/childlike. i think at most they have hyperfem readers and even sometimes thats a stretch and i think its just because of their blog or the way they type. i think people started to dislike how famous some writers got and felt they were overlooked.

hyperfemininity being linked with children is also very problematic for a few reasons, one of them i dont feel comfortable talking on but i think some people can connect the dots.

ive seen a few fics that made me want to vomit and yet none have been from the people currently under fire. i would not at all be friends or not say anything to these people if i felt that way since i know them. its the same as saying adults cant have a plushie collection… why can’t they… they can, it doesn’t make them a child or childlike. i think everyone forgets a lot of things from childhood, esp a traumatic childhood, provide comfort for adults way into their older years. i think writing your reader as not at all knowing what sex is or having them not understand their private parts is where i start to say this is really not okay. i havent seen either do that.

also, i wanted to mention something about the cat fic. to people complaining about it i really hope you dont like spiderman, or and movie for that matter where those things are common. we dont have this hatred for spiderman smut or idk avatar smut. it really did feel like its because this person got too popular 🤷‍♀️ the claims made were crazy and god forbid any of u pick up a fantasy book, i really think u may be shocked.

Okay so firstly this is my opinion and if I don't like a song it doesn't mean I think it's a bad song it just means I personally don't like it.

So I already liked Santanized and Peacefields when they were released as singles. Lachryma I did not particularly like or dislike, was pretty neutral on it, but though I may like it if j listen to it more but I've still only listened to it once when the single came out because then I got really busy with the donothon and now I'm busy with giveaways and commissions and life and world news stresses that I haven't had the brain energy to give it another proper listen (yes listening to new music can take up my brain batteries it's easier for me to listen to music I already know when I'm stressed).

As for the non-singles. When then album dropped at midnight in the UK I listened to the tracks I hadn't already heard. I like Umbra (welcome back cowbell ghoul i missed you) and Excelsis. That's it. I couldn't even listen to thr rest of the songs all the way through because I disliked them so much I had to skip to the next track because I couldn't make myself keep listening to it, music is for fun and I wasn't having fun.

So I like 4/10 songs off the album. A further 2 I might start liking more if I listened to them more (lachryma and whichever one the 'love rockets' one was) but no guarantee. And I know a lot of people are saying the album just takes a lot of listens to like but trust me when I say I know when a song makes me 'hmm idk but if k listen to it more I might like it' and when it makes me 'nope don't like this one, always going to skip it". Maybe I'll be proven wrong but I really don't want people to come tell me that I'm wrong or I will like them or I'm 'listening to it wrong' (have been told that before) like no we just have different opinions and that's okay, it doesn't make me like ghost any less. I'm not one of the fans who's mad it doesn't sound like opus because?? Of course it doesn't?? Bands grow and evolve and change who was reasonably expecting it to sound like their first album from 15 years ago??

Also you didn't ask, but gonna use this as a space to ramble about my thoughts on the supposed retconning of the ghost lore (literally just gonna paste my discord ramble, again just my opinions):

partly im like yeah sure he can do whatever he wants with his lore and hes never cared that much about it or taken it that seriously. but then the other part of me is like but a lot of fans do the lore means a lot to fans and they love making fan content so is it wrong for me to want tobias sometimes to care a bit about it on behalf of the fans that do since theyre the ones selling out your arenas and merch and movie.. idk

for those that dont know, tobias has retconned the family tree. original papa nihil is the father of papa 1 (primo), papa 2 (secondo, papa 3 (terzo), and the twins papa iv (copia) and papa v (perpetua), they all have different mothers, terzo and secondo are liek 4 months apart in age, and copia and perpetua's mothers are either canonically sister imperator or implied to be hers. this is how the lore has been since like 2010 until a couple weeks ago...

now new lore is that nihil is the older brother of primo, secondo and terzo, and only the father of copia and perpetua. people thought tobias mispoke in an interview but it seems to be the new canon (at least thats what people are saying). which is strange because even in the livestream they had the other day they were still showing the old chapters webseries which states nihil is their father not brother.

so maybe tobias will undo the retconn, idk. i thought he mispoke, most of us did, but now im seeing people saying no its canon so i guess he confirmed it somewhere but i havent seen where

if the family tree is retconned its still canon in my mind anyway. nihil to me is a shitty dad with 5 kids who all have daddy issues because of him, primo's always gonna be the heir, secondo's always gonna be the middle child who has self-worth issues and didnt get much love or attention and feels like he constantly has to prove himself, and terzo is the baby who flirts with everyone but is secretly insecure and wants love. copia's a silly guy who never got to bond with the others and maybe didnt know they were his brothers until after their deaths. thats what they're always gonna be to me.

Anyway that's my thoughts on skeleta and my ramble on the lore retconning

Heya, I saw you talking about Ichi the Killer the other day and I though "That sounds interesting maybe I'll look at it" and MAN. Finished it yesterday it was too suspenseful to stop reading! Just wanted to tell you I liked it.

well adjusted tumblr users when they learn about an ultraviolence, gore, tragedy, thriller WHATEVER manga that they probably shouldnt read:

now that i have fresh eyes on it though, what DID you think of the old man mentoring itchi and his motivation and whatnot?? he fucking suuuucked i was barely caring about that guy until the very end like way to ruin the romantic climax. not that i have any Betterr ideas to switch him out with on the subject of why itchi is the he is. - he IS the catalyst of the story, after all. maybe if i read it a third time ill like him more?

if you wanna get more of it, theres the movie -infinitely more popular and liked than the manga because of the director and actor- (also again, the character design EVEN WITH turning kakihara into a blonde twink *chefs kiss*) there are some sequels acting as prequels that have more insight on itchi would be roped into this level of intense psychological manipulation... i dont remember liking them as much as i did the original. i really was in it for the 'kakihara does a stupid gay character development that pisses you off' ride

if youre willing to still hear me out, i actually got to ichi through a different manga the same artist illustrated, "homunculus", that i also really enjoyed. my memory is weaker on that story, but its not nearly as gore intensive. still a horror thriller of sorts, though. its the story about a man who lives in his car and agrees to to a back alley surgery experiment. the 'surgeon's(student?) theory is that by opening a literal third eye through trepanation, he will gain insight in to the supernatural. he can "see" through only when closing his right eye though, in the form of miscellaneous beasts haunting individuals, said beasts representing repressed memories, trauma, insecurities and whatnot. not everyone has them. if youve ever seen a spread of a guy holding a drill to his own forehead, thats the one!

it could have easily been serialized into "problem of the week" and gone on for longer but it drops the pretense midway through as it focuses more on your main character(s). it has also gotten a movie in the last decade, but i havent seen it.

since when i last talked about ichi i was once again harping how the core of this, sans final mastermind plot twist, is about a closeted, extreme masochist, yakuza chief hunting down the man that killed his boss/implied lover, homunculus has a smiliar thing going on that not a lot of manga, horror or otherwise, are willing to act upon, or at least to this extent. the surgeon i mentioned before (i dont remember names ;;) has a gaudy, 'rich single cougar in your area' (imo) fashion sense, and crossdresses ocasionally. his own thing and the way his homunculus manifests is like an hidden agent plot through the story, culminating with a dedicated arc. by the end, if its not explicitly stated (again i genuinely dont remember) then its made extremely obvious that she has transitioned and identifies as a woman (like for real, its if you dont see it you have dementia type of obvious), the relationship between the her and the protag is very interesting and endearing, and has that similar romantic tension that kakiharas one-sided manhunt carried. it fades into the background when the protags own skeletons are brought to light, but seeing her come back in the end and hugging him while hes just too far gone did something NASTY to my emotions. theres an english saying that pretty much sums up her deal, but i dont want to say it because it would immediately spoil it. so ill just say its really interesting that her entire character design, from how her face is stylized to how her homunculus manifests, is sick as hell and incredible foreshadowing. teehee

i suppose that if you handled ichi you can handle this, but if you do check it out be warned that one of the arcs revolves around this 40?? something year old having sex with a teenager. its not presented as titillating, thank god, its awkward as hell, and then it gets annoying as FUCK because its said teenager and protag playing an hours long chicken game, when one backs out and concedes defeat the other negs them on. i might be putting on rose tinted goggles, but now i find it one of the stronger arcs.... reminds me of when i was a teenager myself. make of that what you will. (cluster-b girlies stay losing i guess) also, the one spread of the surgeon and the teenagers homunculus interacting was the coolest thing id seen so far in that story ngl.
