Adding fuel to the “bruce’s favorite” debate, i’ll give y’all my personal interpretation:

Out of all his children, bruce loves dick the most. He’s the closest to him in the family, dick is a full time independent hero and nothing and no one else in this world could possibly make him more proud than he is of dick, however, the child he favors the most is cassandra.

Bruce loves dick more than anything but their relationship is rocky and they fight often, dick has reasons to pick fights with bruce and he will never lose the opportunity to do so, so to an outsider’s eyes cass would be the obvious choice. Bruce and her are the most alike out of the kids and because of that they get along way better than he and dick ever could. Cass thinks similarly to bruce, so she never has a reason to pick a fight with him, bruce thinks similarly to cass so he never has a reason to treat her unfairly.

opposites attract is possibly my favorite trope ever. And that is exactly what you guys are . Not exactly golden retriever x black cat though people who didn't know you guys well assumed such .

Dick would get exhausted spending forever being charming and charismatic for even the most extroverted of people get tired when they had to manage multiple superhero teams, a detective squad and the whole batfamily.

You were silence, peace serenity almost..until you weren't. Grayson was worried about this relationship in the start, after all you guys were really different. He was afraid you were going to be annoyed by his sunshine self, and that when he isn't feeling like talking, the conversations would go silent.

But you really are so different when comfortable with someone, and its tough not to trust and drop your shield with grayson.

It took him by surprise slowly seeing you open up and show your weird side. It somehow made him cherish it more and even want to show sides of him that only you got to see.

When he asked you why you weren't like this with everyone you said " My parents had a habit of talking over me, sometimes outrightly not hearing me speak at all. No matter how loud I spoke..i wondered if they couldn't hear me...if anyone even wanted to you" "why me then?" asked dick , "you're nothing like my parents, I know you care" and he does..he really does. He won't ever let you feel like that every again. He will make sure everything you want said is heard, and if not he will burn it into the skyline

Jason todd

he appreciated it, a quiet person in public. He hated being in public, he hated the buzz the noise the push the touch of humans around him. He felt strange

till he feels you hold his knowing you felt just as strange as him. Leave the gala and walk around the library , one earphone in each ear listening to whatever you wished to play.

Pulling you close in crowded areas- was it for you or for him? Glaring at anyone who dared tease you about your quietness. A single glare usually does the job but don't worry ...other ways exist too.

He loves that when you two are alone, you are a completely different person. It makes him feel special, like he is the only one who understands you. Because you're the only one who understands him.

When he asks " well I guess I never felt like people liked what came out of my mouth.. my humour too dark, my words too dumb and I didn't make sense. So I stopped trying" don't worry about being cringe..he understands you completely

He could never really perfect the act the way you did. He's seen you grow up, but somehow its like you were born with two people living in your brain.

I personally have never seen anyone say that jtodd is the best fighter in the batfam but maybe that’s because I mostly keep my nose out of most jason fans business…

Anyway when it comes to power scaling in dc comics Nightwing is always a weird character to talk about because writers are not very consistent about it (especially recently, TTs Nightwing was weirdly incompetent sometimes) and he’s often beaten down emotionally and mentally by his villains in order for them to have a chance against him physically. Based on the comics that I love and cherish I personally would rank him as one of the top ten (the lesser end of the top ten but still) most skilled non-powered fighters in universe and jason doesn’t make it anywhere close to that list.

Whenever jason and dick face off jason puts up a good fight, but to my knowledge dick always wins.

Dick is just on another level in terms of skill and experience, and that’s the way it’s been for forever. He was a child prodigy, and has spent his entire life commanding and leading god-like figures. The list of people who could win against him in a fight is pretty short. He has the respect of richard dragon, lady shiva, slade, midnighter, and nearly the entire vigilante/hero community. Jason has been shown to hold his own against bruce but tbh that doesn’t mean as much as a lot of people claim it does.

And yeah, like you said, cass is THE BEST. No argument.

I’ve been thinking about something recently and I’m curious about your opinion. Sometimes I worry that the comic book fandom, especially the DC one, are inadvertently pushing away people from actually getting into comics. I’ve seen people who only really consume DC fanon stuff say that the comics seem really bad and that’s why they don’t want to get into it. I worry that all the negativity with people on their blogs saying they hate so and so’s storyline and talking about what writers they hate might be just further increasing the problem DC has with people who only engage with the fandom and not the actual source material. I know it’s a bit more nuanced than that but I really want more people to get into the comics and I don’t know how without being pushy lol

no yeah you make a really good point, especially bc comics are like the worst thing to get into for a beginner bc no matter where you start youre wrong

however as someone that only started getting into comics like less than 2 years ago i think that its not actually as bad as it seems, bc i definitely (shamefully) started as a "fanon is better than canon" person, with a lot of the other fanon blogs i followed saying that the comics werent worth reading. so it definitely is hard to convince people to actually read the comics. but what happened to me is that i would slowly find more blogs of people that read comics that would talk about characters they like and give recommendations for stories that are at least nice for a character even if theyre not good

i am absolutely a hater and i complain about comics on here all the time but most of the time it comes from a place of love <3 ill complain only bc i love the character in other runs, and i never shut up about the comics i like and i know im not the only one <333 so as much comic blogs talk about how much we hate comics there are also so many comics that get good reviews from tumblr girlies (gn)

so i think that while some fanon fans stay as fanon fans a lot of them do end up developing into fans that actually read the comics just bc fanon is a really easy way to start off and learn the characters before jumping into runs !

and id like to say in general once again that although i do complain about fans that dont read the comics it is okay to be starting out and not have read a lot !!!! there are so many comics and its so hard to start off but you dont need to know everything to be posting online, were all here to have a fun silly little time and its not the end of the world if you make a silly batfamily post without reading every batfamily appearance

Hmm, let's see. I would write about... ugh i cant think. I'm not in my writers mood rn. Which ask number is this? It's no. 13.

Hmm, i'd write about Tim going through A Day. He keeps being pelted with problems left and right. WE assignments. Overdue tasks. A new case opened up. A mugging that ended up with him getting stabbed. Jason's in the manor today and everyone is on edge as they always are with him. Just problems ad problems and he's getting stressed and stressed.

And then Damian's making a fuss cuz of course he does, he's a little brother and little brothers are legally obligated to get on their older brothers' nerves. So Damian's berating him about something, maybe his inattentiveness cuz he got stabbed in a mugging.

Dick is sending glances at him, unsure of whether or not to interrupt cuz Tim's been real cagey after the whole Bruce gets lost in time fiasco. Speaking of Bruce, they still haven't had that conversation after returning back.

So Tim gets up and walks away from Damian while the kid is still talking and then he trips, but manages to keep from falling, but it shakes his stitches and he's in pain and gets reminded of when he lost his spleen, he was bleeding in the desert and of how alone he felt and how he still feels lonely. He thought everything would be alright. He thought it would all be okay after saving Bruce. But it's not. It's still not okay. He's still alone.

He's always.

Fucking.

Alone.

So he crumples to his knees and his shoulders start shaking and tears start dripping and then the whole Cave freezes. Dick asks what happened and Tim... Tim doesn't have the strength to reply. He bursts into sobs. Openly. He doesn't care anymore.

The whole family gathers around him now, unsure as to how they can reassure him, but Tim throws himself to the person nearest to him. Which was coincidentally Bruce. He sobs into Bruce's arms and the delicate stitches rip and he's bleeding on him as well. But he doesn't care. He's given up now.

It seems that Bruce doesn't care either cuz he isn't showing any signs of letting go. Instead, he starts stroking Tim's hair. And Tim melts.

Snot and tears and drool are leaking everywhere. Tim hasn't cried in a long time. He's almost forgotten the experience.

"What's wrong, chum?" Bruce asks quietly, still running his fingers through his hair.

Tim is about to shake his head, but stops. He doesn't care now, does he? He doesn't care about what answer he gives.

"I feel alone," he whispers, so so quietly. And so so honestly. He's never been this honest before.

Anyway, so then the batfam comforts him blah blah. Damian was actually worried about his brother and didnt know how to express it. Dick too was worried and didnt know how to fix their relationship again. Jason was sorry and he still is cuz it was about time he accepted Tim as his brother. And Bruce... Bruce just wasn't sure if Tim still wanted to be his son.

And so, the batfamily and Tim learn an important lesson. Communication! Which, yk, is something they're sorely missing.

Idk if this is too long, but eh. I'm not gonna turn this into a proper fic though, dont really feel like it. If you or anyone else wants to, then thats fine! Give credit where its due and all, but yeah. Hope you like it cuz i literally made it on the spot and im still going through my burnout so idk if this is really that good.

Also, i dont usually write in present tense, i just plan plotlines in it. I mainly write with past tense cuz thats the only tense i feel is easy to be consistent with for me.

The real reason is that the Joker is DC's cash cow, so he must have the most plot armour possible.

In canon however, things are different. I dont care too much for super realism in comics, the nature of comic books means that a lot if disbelief has to suspended for stories to work. But honestly, as much as I love Batman, it makes no sense how he hasn't died yet, even without Jason, Bruce, on any of the other batfamily members killing him.

The GCPD is supposed to be corrupt as hell, right? So why hasn't a corrupt GCPD officer not decided to shoot him in custody, or for there to be an 'unfortunate accident' or 'unforseen medical emergency' in Arkham Asylum? How come he hasn't killed himself via government agency issued sniper rifle? Im pretty sure in one comic Deadshot got a contract to assassinate his ass, and over the past few decades of his existence, you're telling me he has avoided all of them??? Don't get me wrong, if you one day just shot the Joker in the head there'd probably be a few problems, crime empires don't just fall after one (bad) day after all, and the Joker can be extremely scary and ruthless to those who try and stop him (obviously). Therefore, most people would be afraid of the consequences of killing him, even those who aren't that smart about it or know the Joker that we'll could price together that if you fail, you would be in for a bad time.

However:

realistically, with all the shit he has done, I have a feeling that some people really, really don't give a shit about that, like theyd rathter die trying to kill him for the greater good, or revenge, or something....so am I supposed to believe that out of a population of billions, nobody has tried at all? or am I supposed to believe that no one has ever been successful (once again, over how many years??) yeah, he uses fear to get what he wants and for people to stay out his way, corruption, coercion, bribery, etc. but that can only go so far, especially for some people who are solely focused on killing him, which, would probably be a lot of people.

Of course, instead of being led to believe that the majority populous are incompetent, not driven at all by blind emotion and short sightedness when it comes to killing the Joker, or/and every single one deeply affected by the Joker's intimidation techniques; you could argue instead the Joker is just incredibly competent at avoiding being killed by people. This has its own problems though. Like as I previously said, with the amount of people that presumably would want him dead, over years and years of his life of crime, no one has managed to successfully murder him?? the universe where magic is real, where a man can fall from the moon in nothing but kevlar and leather and survive, and a super-powered kid from the 60's can punch so hard he breaks time and can bring people back to life - but suddenly assassinating one of most well known criminals of all time is too much of a challenge? like even if we take the Batman side of things as more grounded than other DC properties, the Joker could not be that lucky, that skilled, and have that many reasources to have managed to avade being killed for so long (I know he robs banks like every other week, but tax avasion is how they got Al Capone, and all that money probably wouldnt stop the multidue of shadowy cabals pulling the strings of society in the DC universe from trying to get him out of the way). Like, even in the own rules of the DC universe does it not make that much sense. Too many people (people which statistically, more than one person would probably be skilled and have enough resources) want him dead, and so much could be made from his death that its not like even those with no care for the greater good wouldnt rather have him die and take the spoils for themselves.

Gotham is in New Jersey, which doesn't have the death penalty, but the Joker has committed crimes in other states and countries which absolutely do, where he would most likely be tried, and it is extremely unlikely he could get off on an Insanity plea every single time (once again, about corruption, in some places it would more likely get him the death penalty than anything else).

It doesn't even have to be on purpose. The Joker lives a very dangerous life, and a lot of people seem to forget that the Joker is only human. His body, although fucked up in some ways via chemicals, does still have some human limits? Your telling me with all the running around Gotham at night, with no formal training like Batman, that he hasn't managed to accidently slip and fall the wrong way in the city where it always rains??? That he hasn't hit his head to hard after fighting batman or anyone else (even fighting civilians)??? All of the chemicals and shit he messes around with for his crimes in his many makeshift labs hasn't poisoned him yet??? And that's just in gotham, not mentioning all of the constant Justice League threats around and about which Joker, still majority human, could fall prey to (I don't think genocidal aliens care if a man looks like a clown)

Taking all of this into account, the only reason the Joker could have survived this long in canon is that the only people who most likely to try to kill him are the same people who are not afraid enough of him, his wrath, or any fallout of his death, blinded by emotion, and therefore not skilled enough and too stupid/hubristic/too naive to kill him: and everyone else either thinks he is useful to them and their own plans, to scared to even touch a hair on his head, or just unlucky to have their plans not work due to circumstances (which includes batman saving his life, as he has done multiple times).

This reason is fine, it can be really interesting but also makes the Joker more like some sort of annoying, murderous cockroach that just. won't. die. even after he is caught in an exploding helicopter crash, or stabbed and shot a million times, he inexplicably survives because... he's just that good! It makes no sense if you think about it critically for more than 5 seconds, and personally, it really cheapens alot of batman stories by having him always come back in one way or another, completely fine. (Where's the comic where the Joker's stuck in ICU for a year and loses his criminal fortune to the American health care system?) It's plot armour so obvious it's even worse than Batman's, and it kinda sucks.

In conclusion: the plot contrivances do be contrived, so the clown lives

Tim, because ughhh he just rubs me the wrong way. the entitlement around being robin (what was his reason for being robin??? some abstract notion of justice??) the general misogyny and know-it-allness also the fact that there's literally nothing interesting about him. I have very specific ideas about tim should have slotted into the batfamily but the way DC executed it all those years ago is just Not It. he's literally just Some Guy (derogatory) like even my friends who are comics geeks + Tim stans agree that if he really doesn't add value to the story

Babs: I understand why she's well liked, and personally I think she's an excellent representation of a realistic woman. however, I just don't like the way she's written - the casual callousness to dick and steph and sometimes even cass, dick especially in the recent ric grayson arc. And I feel like the bitterness that comes across in her older oracle appearances could be justified even if I dont like them (but then there's stuff like when she blamed dick for being kissed by tarantula, or being extremely condescending to steph) but I especially don't like batgirl babs she's so aggravating to read?? like a h*rmione that never matured you know?? I think she's an interesting concept, but brought to life in the most white-feminist way possible

Generally bits from batman 2016 because Tom King has no clue what he's doing. like the wedding bit where selina leaves him at the altar (which is annoying because I love me some batcat) or ending bit up until issue #80 (I found all of that really stupid there was just too much going on and it would have made more sense for the wedding to happen in issue #50) I feel like with the artists you had on hand and the creative freedom tom king was afforded we could have had something truly brilliant? instead we got "meow" and a bedtime story about cannibalism and alfred dying and bruce calling only damian his son and beating his other sons and abandoning his eldest and interfering for no reason with jury duty? I feel like we could've gotten so much more out of tom king as a whole tbh

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

I'd say YJTV M'gann M'orzz tbh I know she's not technically DC comics per se but I loved her character when she was first introduced on the show. I feel like a lot of what she does comes from either a place of love or misunderstanding or hurt, and it's an interesting and complex story that doesn't really get a lot more exploration/is explored in a way that doesn't come off right. I feel like she has a lot of potential beyond being the first-girl-love-interest-character, and we don't get much of her backstory like we do with artemis so it's hard to build sympathy or context for her actions; but then again, eldest-sister first-girl characters are my bread and butter, so.

12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

Easy. Forever Evil (and what comes after!)

I know plenty of people DESPISE Forever Evil for the things it did to people's perceptions of the Batfamily and the in-universe cascading events that follow, but I adore it personally for those reasons. Naturally DC doesn't follow through on anything that it writes, and the Bats' reactions to Dick being alive are awful, but I think Forever Evil is integral to canon characterization of the story that DC has been pushing in their depictions of Dick and Bruce and the rest in any kind of media - Dick is expendable, and even when he dies/is hurt for his family he's not good enough (which we see again and again with less and less self-awareness each time, especially with the Ric Grayson arc), Bruce has a clear capital p PROBLEM in how he treats those around him (just think of Stephanie and how her treatment is glossed over every time when people try to bend Bruce into a Good Father Figure in fanon) Jason and Tim have problems with their egos and their relationships with Bruce factor into their treatment of their brother (NEITHER OF THEM STOP TO ASK IF HE'S OKAY???) , and how Barbara (again, made out to be SO MEAN here, she's DISAPPOINTED that he's alive??) is often no better than Bruce himself, but she's framed as being right, again and again.

to me it just makes their characters messier and gives the fandom a chance to really dig into the angst behind all of this -- they aren't real, and therefore their pain is catharsis -- all of a sudden, you have a wellspring of well-written anger and sadness and complex relationships and that's why I LOVE Forever Evil - it produces problems that aren't easily solved. It gives us a chance as an audience to dig deeper into a pretty convenient set of 'happy family members' all through some shitty writing + editorial decisions that were not a good idea in-universe to make Batman or the others Good People, but an excellent way of generating emotional interest from the fans.

it also moves the the angst light away from Tim and Jason and onto Dick, because honestly the amount of fiction I've read where it's Poor Jason or worse, Poor Little Timmy being hurt by his Evil Eldest Brother ! makes me want to hurl. It's just such bad mischaracterization of each of them, and Forever Evil gives us a canon-based chance swing things in the other direction for once.

It's also (in my eyes) incredibly in-character - Bruce is a hard-ass on his emotional support eldest son after trauma (in this case, the ESES's OWN DEATH), Dick sets aside his own hurt and trauma to support his family, Jason and Tim are selfish as all hell without realizing that they are being that way, etc.

I just think it's Interesting. I'm also a Dick Grayson fan, so, that's probably why.

Kagami, Luka and Felix are all holding the fort down in Paris. Ain't no akumas but sometimes they need backup so when certain heroes need to disappear, Nath has Trixx set up an illusion of whichever one so they can slip away with the horse miraculous.

Mari’s the one who has to leave the most because she’s still Paris’ damage control, so like,,,,, ya know.

Mari doesn’t get left behind, at least not on the first day b/c come on people! She has plenty of friends in class watching out for her and a semi-competent teacher who does care even if she’s non-confrontational to a fault.

She does eventually become separated from the group. Half because of Lila and half because she’s always fucking late and got distracted.

She actually runs into one of the civilian batfam in the first place because the class was allowed an hour or so to wander around the shopping district or whatever to explore/buy things/get food. They just needed to return to the meetup spot at a certain time but Mari is like ten minutes away when it’s five minutes to the meetup

So she’s just… fucking booking it and completely takes out this trained vigilante without trying to.

Mari, as she’s groaning on the ground, tangled around a boy: By Kwamii, I thought my luck was supposed to be good Tikki.

That or like, the subway doors close before she can get on them and the rest of the class ends up ahead of her leaving her to get caught up on some bullshit in the next train or smth.

Oh, like. Of course it’s her train that gets held hostage. Wonderful.

1.Jack from Samurai Jack

A samurai who has been flung into the future by the evil being known as Aku ,and now Jack travels the world ,protecting the innocent while also seeking a way to  go back to the past and slay Aku .Also I know many fans HATE how this show ended but I liked the ending .

Prince Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender 

Now Zuko started as a villain but as the show went on he eventually became a hero,and his arc is an engaging one .Zuko is my favorite character in Avatar so I had to include him

Gohan from Dragon Ball Z

Gohans journey is from child with powers he can barely understand to the savior of the world.Goku may be the face of the franchise,but I feel Gohan is the true hero of DBZ......At least until the Buu Saga.Also tip if you want to watch DBZ STOP  after the Cell Saga

My favorite version of Batman.When I read a Batman comic its Kevin Conroys voice I hear.He’s the most complete Batman:We see him starting out,we see himpatroling Gotham both on his own and with the Batfamily, we see his adventures with the Justice League (As a part timer),we see the toll the Batman persona has ,we see him forced to give it up and eventually helping a new Batman carry on the legacy .He could be harsh,he could be funny,he could be grim,and he could be kind 

Goliath from Gargoyles

I think when most people think of the noble warrior  leader they think of Optimus Prime,but for me I think of Goliath.Goliath not only must come to terms with being in a new time ,but what is his purpose and his relationship with Elisa.And to top it off he is just a badass hero  

Raven,Beast Boy,Robin,Starfire and Cyborg from the Teen Titans

I had to include the whole team,cause each just bounces off eachother so well.Now this show came out ,other then Robin,I had no idea who any of these people were and I was ready to dismiss them.....But their dynamic and personalties won me over ,to the point I consider the Teen Titans from this show as some of my absolute favorite super heroes ,and my absolute favorite super hero team.All of them could be goofy but you felt their struggles as well,and throughout the series you get to know each one as an individual.Heck each season would focus on a specific member (With the exception of Starfire sadly,instead getting a movie that focused on her and Robins relationship).If I had to pick a favorite it would be either Beast Boy or Raven but honestly I love the whole team

Darkwing is interesting cause while he is a hero.....He’s a hero for the glory .He has a massive ego and is self absorbed .But while he may be doing hero work for the wrong reasons,there is a good heart to him,especially when it concerns his daughter Gosalyn .Overall Darking is a very funny hero

The Flash from Justice LEague and Justice League Unlimited

I considered putting the Question on here as he is my favorite JLU character but he is in so little of the show to count for me,so I went with my favorite member of the 7 founding league members.Flash is the teams heart .He’s not the smartest,he’s not the toughest but  he is the most good hearted .I think one of my favorite moment is when he ,Batman and Orion find the Trickster in a bar,while the other two want to threaten and interrogate him,Flash instead calmly talks to him and not only gets the information he needs but convinces him to turn himself in

What do you like so much about bat family stories?

i like Gotham as an entire concept, and the different batfamily’s reasons for being there, i find the most inspiring.

like, Bruce is a flawed character. he’s arrogant, often short-minded, and he’s emotionally stunted due to his trauma. he honestly has no reason to stay in Gotham and has all the means to move out to a city like Metropolis, where although there is evil, it’s not Gotham. Gotham is a reminder of everything painful in his life, and the mythos makes it a point to show just how terrible a place it can be. Gotham is literally created to be one of the most terrible places in the DC world that a lot of different heroes see no hope or value in. but Bruce (and by extension the batfamily) stays because he sees the good in it and its potential in the everyday people who live there. all of the robins/batgirls are Gothamites who come from different areas/walks of life but dedicate their lives to helping the people of Gotham. like...the whole principle of the Bat is to show that even a place as corrupt as Gotham deserves heroes and protection and inspiration to strives towards, too. because its people are good, and they are being exploited from all sides.

and on top of that, i love the Batfam bc they’re all kind of broken and flawed in their own way but want and always try to be better. like i like Superman and Wonder Woman, dont get me wrong. they’re definitely inspiring bc they’re so heroic. but Bruce and the Batfamily are very human to me. they make mistakes and hurt each other. they don’t feel like an unrealistic ideal of heroism to me as sometimes Clark and Diana can. Bruce’s relationship with each of his adopted kids is complicated and often strained bc he’s a man with deepset flaws, who has never addressed his trauma in a healthy way, and i appreciate him more because of it.

idk i guess to me, the Batfam is one of the best examples of a group of imperfect fuckups who still try to help others at the end of the day and i love them for it
