Okay, something VERY interesting happened in regards to Donkey Kong Bananza. Apparently someone at Nintendo of Korea accidentally leaked something in the game and it’s apparently Pauline as a child or Pauline’s daughter. Thoughts on what this character could be or the impact this will have on the Mario/DK franchise lore?

I saw!

I'm almost certain it's going to be Pauline given the resemblance, though there is a slight chance that it's just a little kid who happens to be a big Pauline fan. I don't think it'll be Pauline's child given how much of Pauline's characterization centers around being young, hot, politically-influential jazz singer. It's not impossible, but it would be an unexpected twist to say the least. When did she find time to have and raise a baby? Who the heck is the dad??? My personal theory is that there's some sort of magical shinanigans going on that caused Pauline to de-age, hence why the normally-golden bracelet around her wrist is now made out of purple crystals. That might be a little extra reason for DK to undergo this mission other than his love for bananas; he's gotta get his long-time-unrequited crush back to normal... a little act 3 incentive to double down and dig deeper. Either way, I don't think it'll have too much impact on the lore of the series as a whole, not that much of the Mario franchise has particularly rock-solid canon to begin with (no pun intended.)

Nintendo of Korea leaked an alternate cover for Donkey Kong Bananza with a classic character in the place of the Odd Rock. The internet is pretty certain that that character was transformed into the Odd Rock. Personally, I think it's more interesting if they START as the Odd Rock and BECOME that character.

Either way, I wanted to get a head start on the fan art.

Now, the the official Nintendo Korean website, they revealed this image of this mysterious character that has huge similarities to Pauline, but she looks…younger?

There is no info about this character, so I’m guessing this was supposed to be revealed when the game released

At first I tried to find evidence that this was fake but it seems pretty real, no AI, some other people confirmed this was official, sadly as of writing this, they updated the website and we can’t see her anymore, so please take this with a grain of salt.

Still…I saw theories of what is her purpose on the game, she seems to have a connection with the odd rock..could they be the same character?

So the theories are:

1. She is related to Pauline:

This character and Pauline could be related to each other, maybe her daughter or sister? Still why is she turned into a rock creature and why is she in this mysterious island?

2. This is the past:

Maybe this is a young Pauline, her first time meeting DK, I personally don’t like this theory, since DK had some romantic attraction to her in other games and that is…weird sorry, people are saying the DK we are playing as is actually Cranky Kong, but we can interact with him in the game as is showed in some footage around the Internet, so this theory seems unlikely.

3.she was transformed into a rock:

In the odd rock’s design, we see weird tape surrounding them, and it has shaped that are similar to one of the evil monkeys DK has to fight against, maybe she is under a curse we can break later on in the game, and the evil monkeys have her hostage to use whatever power she wields, maybe that’s why odd rock was scared of DK when it saw him.

4.Pauline’s fan???

Maybe throughout the game, DK shows odd rock music from Pauline, maybe the odd rock has the ability to shape-shift and becomes Pauline, odd rock seems to add a bit of a child so maybe that’s why she looks younger? We see that music seems to their thing like Pauline HMMM

Guess we gotta wait for what the game has in store, I personally like the idea of DK helping out a child, LIKE ITS SO CUTE STOP 😭

Why are you so sure it’s actually Pauline just bc it looks like her? It’s more likely that the rock just shapeshifted into her or something

Nah, I'm going to have to disagree with you there anon.

The lack of earrings because she hasn't gotten her ears pierced yet? The thicker eyebrows and visible freckles like she's still tying to figure out how to apply makeup in a way that suits her? The black underclothes because she isn't old enough to properly fit the red dress? All the details are pointing to either a young Pauline coming into her own in terms of fashion, or a child who is trying her best to imitate Pauline.

If that's supposed to be The Odd Rock, they took some very weird creative liberties.
