so people understand that Armand uses his innocent looks perfect casting and soft smiles/eyes as a weapon to disarm/distract/gain trust, but they fail to recognize this same manipulation when he does it to Daniel?

people will write paragraphs about how Armand manipulates Louis, but then he flashes one smile at Daniel and everyone's suddenly a believer, lol

I'd love to see DV on my screen, but we (armandiel girlies) need to recognize when a soft gaze = love, and when it's calculated. it's still delicious, though. rewatched it one billion times. what was achieved with this little interaction? where did the plot go after? what was happening before?

I have already mentioned it here, it's almost like good cop bad cop play. Armand sitting next to Daniel, smiling, apologizing on Louis' behalf again, giving Dan soft eyes, as if it wasn't him who had started that whole thing. Armand was the one to abuse his power in the 1st place, letting himself inside Daniel's mind, 'It's Alice, Louis, not Claudia.'. Louis simply followed (provoked by Daniel). i'm surprised Daniel didn't rub it in Armand's face, probably distracted by Talamasca.

the shift in Armand's demeanor from ep1 to ep3, interesting😏. Armand lives in survival mode, so his never-ending adaptiveness is not a surprise.

Armand is the master of manipulations, gets everyone (us included) fooled every week lol

He didn't so much hear Armand come in as he felt Armand come in. Like a moment of nullity moving through the room, a presence that was not a presence. A ghost.

“Daniel...” Armand sat down on the bed, his weight depressing the mattress lightly.

“No...go away.” Daniel tried to turn away but he was sweating and shivering, too cold, too hot.

“It's all right, Daniel. I'm here.” Armand shifted, bringing his legs up and lying down beside Daniel, moving into Daniel's arms. “I'm here.”

“You feel good.” Daniel pressed his cheek against Armand's cool forehead, sighing. He wrapped his arms tight around Armand and it was as though he could feel the heat melt away from him, soaking into Armand.

“My poor Daniel.” Armand stroked Daniel's pale hair. Daniel had only the faintest roughness of stubble clinging to his jaw, and his mussed hair had been cut and clipped in a slick modern style that suited him. Even his ruined clothes were new. That man had taken good care of him.

Daniel shifted, so he could move closer to Armand, so he could press his entire body against Armand. The fever was burning up inside Daniel, and Armand felt the twinge of that old fear, the fear of sickness and the death it brought. So often over the years he had seen Daniel shrug off coughs and chills that it had made him wonder at the strength of these modern mortals.

Death. His fingers brushed through Daniel's hair and Daniel sighed, turning so Armand's hand moved against his cheek. Just hiding under the skin, just beyond the bones. He wondered if he pressed his ear to Daniel's chest, if he could hear the little cells inside of him slowly dying, bursting and floating away.

“I won't let you.” Armand kissed his eyelids, speaking so softly that it was more for his own sake than Daniel's. “Not right now.” And he made that little cut on his throat and guided Daniel to to it. Daniel's dry lips moved against him, at first sluggish, but then he caught the taste of it and his mouth moved hungry.

I think I might be having a crisis, collapse, meltdown, panic attack, whatever you call it. I really can't stop crying. I feel like Anne Rice found my inner child and broke what was left of them. I have a little of a headache now too. I don't think I've cried this much with a book. WHAT DO I DO? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!! /GEN /SRS

Update: Now I'm sobbing really loud and trying to control myself not to wake up my family and failing miserably. I don't think I've ever cried this much with fiction. Even in real life that's rare? But it just feels like something in me was crushed. :(

Goddamn Aliens [AO3] Armand/Daniel - Mature - 2565 words

Missing scene from PLROA where Daniel deals with the aftermath of the meeting with the Replimoids (👽) and Amel's temper tantrum. He and Armand discuss aliens and try to work out where they stand together.

Excerpt:

Armand bent down in front of him, touching his face, his scalp, his neck, examining him. “You seem unharmed.” 

“I sure as hell hope so,” Daniel said. “What was that? Did those creatures do it?” 

“In a way,” Armand said. He dropped his hands. “It was Amel, in reaction to them. Sort of.” 

“So you were right,” Daniel said. “They’re enemies after all.” 

Armand scoffed bitterly. 

Daniel frowned at him. “What?” 

“They cannot be trusted but no one listens to me. And the story they told! You wouldn’t believe it.” Armand clenched his fists. “They are no friends of ours but no one else sees it. They all want to make nice, to placate these creatures.” 

Daniel considered. He hadn’t been in the room. He didn’t know what these beings were nor what they wanted. He tended to think diplomacy was probably the best course of action—Marius had been talking passionately about that last night—but Armand seemed pretty worked up. And given what had just happened…

“What are they?”

Armand sighed. He moved away from the bed and flopped down into the easy chair next to the window. “They claim to be from another planet.” 

Daniel blinked. Stared. Laughed. Stop laughing when Armand gave him a look that said he wasn’t joking. “You’re serious.”

the vampire chronicles are a slippery slope. I told myself i would only read interview and Maybe the vampire lestat someday. now i'm done with tvl and have downloaded queen of the damned from the library 👉👈 but i honestly don't think i will read further than this. (okay maybe the vampire armand. because yknow.)

The heartbreaking thing about a lot of viewers who haven't consumed the books is they don't completely see is WHY Lestat is near sobbing when he asks "Did you hurt yourself?"

Yes, for general reasons like he loves him and what not. But, don't forget, he also said, "I gave you to Armand. You tell me if that is saving."

In TVL, you get ALOT more of the Lestat/Nicky relationship. You see them bond, fall in love, and then Lestat have to contend with that love once he's kidnapped and turned.

Nicky does not take the vampirism very well. Nicky is a very desolate sort of character. Religious trauma to the max, and then throw in family trauma, gay repression, and then vampirism.

When Lestat leaves Paris with Gabrielle in TVL, he essentially leaves Nicky with Armand. He entrusts him into his care in a way, and Nicky chooses the fire. He can't endure as they call it. Naturally, it breaks Lestat's heart.

One of Armand's jobs as coven leader was to cull weak vampires who can't survive on their own or endure. So there is definitely room for S3 for them to show Armand pushing for Nicky to accept the flame.

With Louis, Lestat doesn't fight back in Paris and lets Louis go with Armand. Once again, he's entrusting someone he loves to Armand. Even if it's very much unwilling, but I'll give it to him for once for respecting a choice.

When Armand calls out to him in San Francisco, it's Lestat's worst nightmare. Louis is hurt, Lestat can't get to him. Armand either has allowed him to be hurt, hurt him himself, or did not protect him as Lestat wants him protected.

It is heavily implied Lestat thinks Louis died in San Francisco. In the books, Armand tells both of them the other died to keep them apart. Once again, the person Lestat loves is dead because of Armand.

Lestat, in his mind, has ultimately failed Louis, and so he falls apart as we see him do in 2x08. When Louis shows up, he cannot believe he's there initially. It's very clear he's only half there mentally. He has to ask him if it was all real and if he'd really been hurt because he has to know if it is really Louis. It's a question you'd ask the ghost of the person you love, but Louis CAN answer him.

Needless to say, please read the books if you're up for it. They are a riot.

So, my best friend has been acting a little weird lately. Like, his sleep schedule has gotten really strange (stranger than normal 😅), and I haven't seen him without sunglasses on in a week?

His diet has changed, too, like he used to always be snacking whenever I'd call him, but now he doesn't eat anything that I can see.

He even cancelled our tickets to ComicCon!! I've been waiting to meet up with him for years, and now he's just bailed on me?!? I'm mad, but honestly more worried than anything....

I swear THIS is why the show feels like it has to hold some of ya'll's hands in the Inside the Episode features. The narrative, as it is right now, isn't supposed to give you an accurate picture of Lestat right now. You are getting other people's POVs of him and events that happened, with those people's opinions and accounts colored over with their own biases.

And that is why Lestat's portrayal so far hasn't been book-accurate. Because that is the freakin' point. 🙄 Armand told a version of events from TVL that makes himself look good and is NOT about telling the truth. How much more obvious could they have made this? Because there were clues everywhere that -- if you know the actual story of TVL -- that tell you it wasn't accurate. (Starting with the fact that Gabrielle -- who, in the book, was there for the majority of everything that was shown in the episode's flashback with Lestat -- was not there in Armand's version of events.)

Look I get it if you haven't read the books, and so are not sure if what Armand told about all of this was true or not (and you're not sure what to think about Lestat either). If you haven't read the books feeling that way about this is not only understandable but also by design. Non-book readers are not supposed to know if what Armand was saying was true or not right now. You are not supposed to fully know what is true or false about Lestat even. Because you guys are still getting to know Armand's character, and assessing things about him episode by episode. Right now, you all may think one thing about him only to have that opinion change by the end of the season.

And all non-book readers have to go on about Lestat are other people's opinions and stories about him at this point. Which, depending on your opinion of the people telling it, will shape your opinion of him right now. And again, that is also done by design.

But book readers I'm sorry, I'm just rolling my eyes at some of you at this point if you are thinking like the above anon or something about the show "hating" Lestat or whatever. After everything this show has done to lay out the unreliable narrator aspect and that POVs can be biased aspect and, most of all, what you all already know about Armand's character . . . that is your hand the producers and writers and Assad himself were holding in that Inside the Episode feature explaining the narrative to if you actually believe that this is how Lestat is going to be portrayed on the show going forward.

As I said in another post, the show is very much using a Rashomon Effect when it comes to its flashback storytelling right now. But I feel very much that that is going to change when we get to Season 3 and Lestat finally begins to talk for himself and tells events that happened from his own POV. (And will instead become one about Truth vs Illusion).

I think after this episode we may have to give up hopes of the writers portraying Lestat well at any point. They just don’t like him for whatever reason.

... You did hear ASSAD saying that Armand portrays Lestat in a certain light to make himself look good, right?

Of course Armand in Dubai would not tell how he kidnapped Nicki, tortured him, force-fed on Lestat and killed all his coven. He's trying to come across as the kind, generous, knowledgeable ancient vampire you can trust!!
