Regarding Donna Beneviento and her characterisation in the fandom, I think it's important to note that she really isn't the shy awkward adorable blushing mess that everyone depicts her as being.

This got long but I did a mildly extensive read on her character under the break! :)

Here are the notes I took a screencap of, written by Mother Miranda, which talks about the suitability of Donna being a vessel for Eva:

Which is also why, when you kill Angie, the illusion melts away to reveal that you've actually killed Donna), I think it's safe to say that's what her actual personality is like.

Bearing in mind the way she speaks? Her tone? She sounds confident imo. Determined. And perhaps even a little angry at Ethan for thinking he can escape her.

Just a last addition as well, can I say that her abilities as one of the Four Lourds is genuinely evil? Everyone else has physical intimidation - Alcina has her height and her claws and mutation, Heisenberg has his ability to control magnetic fields and metal, and Moreau can mutate into that huge fish-with-legs thing that vomits something akin to acid? Oh yeah and he can swallow you whole too.

Donna, on the other hand, doesn't have physical intimidation like that. She only has the threat of psychological damage (which makes sense considering she's severely mentally unwell). When Ethan goes through her gardens and has to solve the puzzles in the house, she makes him hallucinate about his wife whom he thinks is dead, and about his baby who is somewhere in this unknown country with a bunch of mutants who only have bad intentions.

It's even worse in the Shadows of Rose DLC imo. As Rose, Donna makes her hallucinate the bullies from back home, being called a freak and a weirdo, made to relive the worst moments of her life. And the puzzles too? Hell. Having to actually recreate the scenes of her bullying with wooden fucking dolls. I remember feeling really sorry for Rose while playing through that part.

And yet Donna is still "the uwu baby" because what? I don't know. People love to declaw female villains just because they're attractive (looking at Lady Dimitrescu here). They love to reduce the characters down to their looks and not consider their actual lore or background or the role they play in the franchise (looking at Leon especially...)

The Remarried empress fandom is practically a cult.

If it isn't the very pro-monarchy storyline that gets me, its the fans and how they idolize its protagonist and everyone else who supports her, this normally wouldn't be an issue if it didn't reach the point of condoning literal slavery.

The way the fans of this comic act is straight up disturbing, part of me thinks remarried empress might even be propaganda to push imperialism and monarchies. The characters you're supposed to root for are all horrible people such as a slave owner who is regarded as a cute fangirl, the ML who is a king with an annoying uwu persona that also steals from mages and kills innocent people, a grand duke is so obsessed with Navier he becomes a creep who goes around passing date-rape love potions like candy, and a brother who violates another woman's autonomy by slipping her abortion drugs but they never face consequences and if they do, its portrayed as something unfair caused by the evil women who get in Navier's way.

speaking of which lets talk about how any other woman in this story who is powerful and above Navier in some way is immediately villainized. the mistress Rashta is a former slave who was sold by her father, abused by her masters, one of them sexually assaults her as well (the narrative tries to say Rashta consented even though a slave can't say no to someone who owns them) and ends up severely traumatized after her baby is taken away and replaced with a dead one. Already off to a rough start for someone we are supposed to see as a one dimensional villain.

in the beginning chapters, Navier's ladies in waiting are already ridiculing Rashta before she even did anything all for being a slave who dared to become the Emperors mistress and hurt the feelings of their perfect empress, how could that slave not worship our empress!? What a wench!. later the narrative justifies making a slave the ultimate evil by making her into someone who "seduced" the Emperor and is ultimately written as a evil moron who is the true villain using her body to charm the poor little noblemen. (Ugh..) In the end her character is basically to be a punching bag for Navier to girl boss back into place and she dies alone in a prison cell as the most evil empress in history.

Then there's Krista, a queen dowager who didn't really like Navier but never went as far beyond snubbing her and letting rumors spread, bad but nothing too horrible, and when she sends a gift one of Navier's ladies in waiting gets all upset and asks if she can toss the gift out, its played off as a joke but it becomes clear it's supposed to tell readers that Krista is a mean mean woman for not adoring the MC.

Then when Krista is becoming too independent for the authors liking they begin to ruin her character by having pine after Heinrey, weird as hell but it could've worked if she was actually utilized as a villain and not a bug that needs to be squashed, she then gets blamed for letting Heinrey rest on her lap even though Kaufman was the one who drugged Heinrey while Krista didn't know, she's disgraced and later killed off while Heinrey proceeds to make the rest of her family suffer in the long run as well. And yet fans practically celebrated her death.

The comments are honestly the worst part, nothing but "Trashta has nothing on our queen! 😍" and "Navier is such a true girlboss! go away Trashta! 🤢" there are chapters where characters like Heinrey literally say that he'll torture people who don't like Navier and the comments are all just "Awww he's such an upgrade from Sovieshit, what a soft boy he is!" ffs it honestly feels like a cult where Navier is the god and all her supporters are her apostles.

The message is clear: you MUST like Navier! If you don't then it makes you a bad guy worthy of death row, and it doesn't take much either, all you need to do if talk a little shit about Navier and boom, her hubby has your mouth with rocks and sewn shut (yes this actually happened and it's never talked about again) if Rashta did something like that she'd be getting flamed, I'm even willing to bet if it was Heinrey who mutilated Delice the comments would either be full of cheap excuses for him or they just would give him a slap on the wrist.

I really wanted to like Remarried empress but I honestly can't anymore with the hypocrisy. Navier isn't even very likeable anymore since all she does now is react to everything and either condone what people do in her name or just not caring, so much for an empress who loves her subjects.

A rant about Ponyboy

For a fandom made up of a lot of teenagers and middle schoolers sometimes I wonder if people have ever met a fourteen year old in real life, because some of the Ponyboy headcanons/characterization I see on here has him acting/being treated like he's at MOST ten years old. I know folks get annoyed by Johnny infantilization but Pony infantilization bugs me too. Don't get me wrong, I think some of the soft headcanons are very sweet but just...not very true to Pony's characterization in the book. I'm not saying he's some hardened criminal but fourteen year olds often don't outwardly crave cuddles/snuggles and petnames, and Pony canonically is known to dislike being babied. He also mentions throughout the novel that kids on the east side grow up quicker than kids from wealthier areas ('When you're thirteen in our neighbourhood you know the score. You're not so smart at ten."). It makes sense, given the area Pony's grown up in, how 'toughness' and masculinity are valued and the fact he's growing up in the 1960s that he wouldn't really want people to see the softer side of his family/the gang's dynamic. I think people also to fail to recognize how Pony has grown by the end of the book. Sure he's decided to stay 'gold' but the scene with the broken bottle does show to some extent that he's hardened himself at least a little bit and that he no longer sees the world through rose tinted glasses. Like, the Pony at the end end of the book is not the same Pony as the beginning of the book and he's not some tiny little kid hat needs to be protected by his big scary older brothers, he's a teenager who's learned he has to be smart and take care of himself without becoming closed off to the world. Like sure, Soda and Darry would still be protective, but I absolutely think Pony would walk to the movies alone after the events of the book and remember to carry a blade with him. Yeah, Darry's a good guardian but he's also twenty, and Ponyboy is fourteen- he wouldn't be tracking Pony's movements 24/7. Also, it's the sixties, it was pretty common for kids to be out all day and for parents/guardians to have no way of contacting them. Pony probably tells Darry he's going to study at the library and goes all over town. Cell phones weren't a thing yet. It was very much a different time. All this is not to shit on anyone's interpretation of him or their headcanons! I have some unrealistic headcanons of him too! Sometimes soft Curtis bros are healing! But I find it very interesting and somewhat disheartening that the majority of Ponyboy characterization I see in this fandom ignores how the story changed him (even when it's not a Johnny and Dally lives AU) and that he is FOURTEEN YEAR OLD living in poverty in a rough neighbourhood, and a smart kid who recognizes a lot of issues in the world. I just wish I got to see more of him as a fully fleshed out character who has lived through trauma from a young age and learned to deal with it with the coping mechanisms available to a poor kid in the 1960s, whose relationship with his family is strong but contentious, instead of an uwu sad boy who Needs to Be Protected At All Costs by his brothers.
