Voice actors are NOT the same as actors.
It takes a specific kind of skill-set and training to be able to warp and meld the voice. It takes a certain kind of talent and dedication to hone that talent into the ability to meld the voice and invoke emotion with one's voice alone. Actors are used to using their voice secondarily to their body language and their facial expressions. It's all mirrored back on camera. They do have nuance. But it's a different kind of nuance and a different kind of training to produce that nuance.
Voice actors might get their likeness transposed on their character's design, and maybe their mannerisms might seep into the character's animation. But when it's all said and done: their presence is in their voice. They are bringing a character to life, showing that emotion in their voice, trying to keep a specific accent, drawl, pitch, tone in that voice and keep it consistent for their recording sessions.
The voice actor is like a classically trained musician who can play first chair in a competitive, world-renown orchestra. The actor (who fills the voice actor's role) is like a moot who played violin in beginner and intermediate high school orchestra and thinks they can get into Juilliard with that 2-4 years of experience.
This doesn't mean that the HS orchestra moot can't play. They can even be really good at it. Maybe they won competitions and sat first chair. But they are not in the same league as the person who's been training their whole lives and lives and breathes to hone their craft using the instrument and all of the training they've ever acquired to perfect it. They are not meant for the same roles. They are not in the same caliber. You do not hire the HS equivalent when you want to play complex music in a competitive orchestra.
Actors are not the same as voice actors.
And furthermore, actors - especially big name actors - taking the roles of animated characters for big budget films or TV pilots makes no sense anyways when - at least in the case of TV pilots - there's not a point to hiring a big budget actors anyways. That money could be used elsewhere (like paying your animators), and the talent that is brought onto the screen for X character could then be hired on to voice said character no recasting required.
I wouldn't say voice acting as a profession is in danger exactly, but it's certainly being disrespected and overlooked for celebrity clout, and this has ALWAYS been an issue. Shoot, even Robin Williams knew that much - which is why he tried so hard not to be used as a marketing chess piece for Aladdin and got royally pissed off when it happened anyways. People shouldn't go to any movie (but especially not animated films) because "oh famous actor is in it". People should go because it's a good movie and the voice acting is good.
People who honest to god think that voice actors are replaceable because "oh well anyone can voice act" or "I like xyz celebrity so naturally it'll be good" ... Honestly I just wish you'd reassess your priorities because you're missing the point and are part of the problem.
Voice Actors ≠ Actors.
#(i am incredibly passionate about this)#(and seeing celebrity voice actors in what should be a voice actor's role completely burns my buns it doesn't matter WHO it is)#(hemsworth as optimus? someone tell me one good reason why they couldn't get a good v/a to replace mr. cullen properly for the future)#(ben shwartz as sonic? dude literally isn't even a good voice actor OR actor anyways-)#(- A N D jason griffith AND my boy roger craig smith are still RIGHT HERE)#(jason griffith IN PARTICULAR would have pulled back SO many sonic fans that went to watch the film anyways. if not /more/.)#(and on top of that he has the same tonality and energy they tried to force this moshmo to try and emulate anyways so GET THE REAL THING)#(chris pratt as mario? i can at least defend /him/ and say that barring his failure to do a NY accent consistently he wasn't terrible)#(but mario's new voice actor could've been used instead and people would've clearly appreciated that WAY more)#(vanessa hudgens as sunny starscout in mlp g5's pilot movie? literally why. they replace her and hitch's va in the show.)#(don't even get me started on the concept of hiring celebrity singers to do musical theatre roles or not letting musical theatre singers-)#(-dub the celebrity voice actors you just HAD to hire for your film bc you're so worried about not getting enough clout to get ppl in seats#(that you're putting it all in this (1) big name hire bc turns out that you have no faith in your writing ability much less-)#(-animation as a medium.)#(and no before anyone says anything : no this is not me saying that ALL celebrity voice castings are bad.)#(there are some that aren't that bad and others that are actually pretty good.)#(i especially appreciate it when actors are damn well aware they aren't voice actors and try to LEARN from voice coaches-)#(-and/or their va predecessors if applicable.)#(that does not change the fact that the celebrity shouldn't have been hired just because the film wanted to have bragging clout-)#(-oh look at this FAMOUS PERSON we were able to hire — yeah ok. sure wendy. i want to know if this film is quality or not.)#(and 9/10 times the SECOND there is money spent on a non voice actor to voice the main character especially)#(that usually means somewhere along the way animation IS going to get shafted. if not w the animators themselves then in the way of-)#(-the actual animation itself and ESPECIALLY the screenwriting because it's especially been so dogshit lately even before the strike.)#(a celebrity being hired to fill a voice actor's role is such an immediate red flag to me and it is VERY rare that i get to be proven wrong

a few Big Al and Sweet Ann headcanons cause i'm fixated on the original early versions of these two goobers
Big Al is an undead reincarnation of an Elvis impersonator, and Sweet Ann is the who brought him back from the grave. the man Big Al used to be was somebody Ann was infatuated with, and when faced with the news of his tragic and untimely death, she was absolutely devastated. she couldn't bare to lost the one she loved, so she Frankenstein'd him back to life and gave him another chance with a new identity and show persona.
the reason Big Al's english and singing can sound a bit rough is because he's a reanimated corpse who's kinda relearning how to be a human. undead monsters, depending on how long they had been dead before their reincarnation, typically forget a lot of their previous lives beyond basic human instincts, and thus, when they are reincarnated, they need to learn how to act like the humans around them again. luckily, Ann dug him up pretty quickly after his death, so he still has partial recollection of who he was before his death. his body had been stuck in a casket for a while before his reincarnation, cut him some slack! XD
Sweet Ann is an undead monster like Al, although she seems to be much better at mimicking human behaviours than Al is, as he was only recently reincarnated. she was reincarnated close to a century ago, and in that time, she has built up an impressive career for herself as a singer. almost everything about her background before entering the spotlight is unknown to the public, apart from documentation of a human who looks strikingly similar to Ann who went by the name of "Jodie". Sweet Ann holds many secrets behind that smile that only Al knows.
Ronnie (Big Al's development name) was Al's previous name when he was alive, and it's a pet name Ann calls him. he finds it adorable and endearing.
most of Sweet Ann and Big Al's old demos have a backstory and chronology to them. Sweet Ann's 'How Could I Forget You' VOCALOID 1 demo is a song written from her perspective of Ann having to relearn and try to remember the ones she once loved when she was alive, very shortly after she was reincarnated as a monster. 'Amazing Grace' is what she sung after successfully bringing Big Al back to life, and it was the very first thing he'd heard when he woke up. Sweet Ann and Big Al's 'Make Me Feel' demos take place shortly after Big Al was reincarnated by Ann, with Big Al learning how to feel again and how to sing again. they kinda playing a mellodrama with each other that's partially born out of Sweet Ann's own feelings towards Al. Big Al's 'I Feel Good' demo was recorded when he was drunk lolllol
#big al#big al vocaloid#sweet ann#sweet ann vocaloid#vocaloid 2#vocaloid2#frankenstein's big al my beloved <3#i honestly really love the idea of these two being undead singing monsters#we already have a bunch of android-inspired vocaloids i think we should throw in a few undeads in the mix too#also while writing this i just watched the kitto vs sweet ann video and it is so fucking funny lmaooo go watch it#sweet ann and unreleased big al are two of my favourite vocaloids atm#they're so underrated and i'm so sad michael king's version of big al wasn't released#if only they had just waited for michael king to get back from touring.....#it makes me quite sad to think about what we could have had with big al#i do really like his released voicebank and all don't get me wrong but it just doesn't hit the same as the unreleased big al#released big al feels less unique than his unreleased incarnation#also i feel like i should mention that there was another cancelled version of big al with his development name (ronie)#but to my knowledge there are no demos of his voice anywhere#anyway yeah i love giving a backstory to characters who don't necessarily have one heeheehoohoo#also bonus headcanon that big al's puppet-like mouth is a side effect of his recent reincarnation and being put back together#and it's something that heals over time#sweet ann used to have a similar condition to al's but it healed as she got used to her undead body#sorry to get off track again but big al's 'i feel good' demo is so fucking funny#''wOOOOOOWWW!!!! i fEel goOd'' - big al after too many drinks#headcanons#my headcanons#obscure media#obscure vocaloids

Just watched S09E11 of CSI, 'The Grave Shift', after last night's 'One to Go'. I don't think I'll ever recover from Grissom, my favorite character, leaving the show, but his exit was still beautiful and so, so Grissom. Him just telling the team "Yeah so, I'm leaving" and having little moments with each of them, warmed my heart (the character that represented me the most was David, who had to bolt out of the room after Grissom said, "I'll miss you, though", barely managing to hold back the tears before leaving).
And oh my god. His reunion with Sara. They didn't even need words and it was absolutely perfect. Watching Grissom feel physical pain from his break up with Sara broke my heart -- you can see how much he loves her. I hate that they'll break up again; I don't remember how or why exactly, but it feels unnecessary, but I'm comforted by the fact that, ultimately, they'll end up together for the rest of their lives.
One of the things I love about this episode is how they all paid a little homage to Grissom and, near the end, Nick, who was offered Grissom's office, invited Greg and Riley to share it with him. Fits right in with Nick's sweet personality. I love how he says they need all the good energy from that place. He's really Grissom's n#1 pupil ♡
(Shout out to Hodges, one of my favorite characters from this rewatch, walking in and bringing the pig fetus saying it belongs there. I love how bitter he is after Grissom left and how he's not willing to get over it any time soon. Forget David, Hodges is the character that represented me the most, lol).
I need to say, my brain completely ignored the fact that, when Grissom offered Ray Langston a job as a CSI he said that it was an "entry-level job". Instead, I thought he'd get the job as the team leader and it was weird for me to see him being so inexperienced at a job. But all of that is because, one, I haven't rewatched CSI in ten years and forgot about like, 97% of the show and two, I have rewatched Hannibal way too many times and got used to Laurence Fishburne playing a boss, and a damn good one. I do like his character, though!
I'm not a fan of Riley though. I don't know why, she seems mostly competent at her job, fit right in, but at the same time it's not really like she fit in? I felt like maybe she could have had some adaptation into the team, after all she was replacing a long-time team member, Warrick (will talk about him later). Her introduction and adaptation into the team felt a bit sudden and "inorganic" and maybe that's why I don't love her sassy remarks and sort of 'cool girl' personality. Yeah I love Sara but I don't love Riley for the reasons listed above. That could change, though!
Warrick. Oh, man. For Gedda/For Warrick were the most painful episodes to watch and I stalled for months. Some of the team got to have a nice last moment with him, others didn't. It broke my heart how at peace he was in his last hours, hanging out with the work fam, feeling relieved for not losing his job, which was a huge part of his life. I do hate that it had to end like that for him. I get that his death represented the loss of innocence, and that that team wasn't going to last forever... but it's just really painful. To know that he didn't have anyone else, only his soon, which we don't know if he was able to see often...
Too many things happening at once, too many changes, and bumpy ones, but I hope we'll get into a smooth road once again.

anyways sometimes i wonder if i'm meant to be connected with people. don't get me wrong i appreciate my friends, but like my quality of life wouldn't go down too much if i hadn't met them. i like digging information out of people. they lose a lot of appeal once i know too much about them. i don't really have any kind of interest in pursuing any kind of relationship with people, romantic or platonic. i could take people or leave them. dunno

joseph gordon-levitt called jim hawkins "just a very good-looking wasp of a boy that I will never be" and I've been thinking about that for two weeks
#even he was like okay this was intentional”#and yes. every Jim Thing was SO intentional. I've read every scrap of material on the movie's creation and process I can get my eyeballs on#and I think one of the reasons I like Jim so much is that every single thing they did with him they were excited about#they were so passionate about it. they wanted to do things with his eyes and hands and expressions-#-that they said they hadn't tried yet because they wanted jim to be as real as they could get him to be#surrounded by all these not-so-real looking worlds and aliens#because his struggles were realistic and his season in life was so relatable in the story#they did model him off jimmy dean but they also modeled him off of joseph gordon-levitt and the poses and faces he'd make#JGL was SEVENTEEN when he voiced jim. he was not fully grown#jim was so “good-looking” as an animated character not just because of how he was drawn but because he himself is supposed to be so raw/rea#and that instinctively makes you like him more. plus. he IS drawn a specific way#and he IS cute don't get me wrong (he is a child)#but there's something about writing a character as true to life as you can#and trying to express something very real through that character that people can understand and care about#in order to make a true point#that sticks to people and influences them. and that's what happened with Jim#it's like Percy Jackson or Holden Caulfield#no I have never been claimed as a child of a Greek god and exploded a toilet#no I have never gotten expelled repeatedly or mugged in the 1950s#but I do know what it's like to want deep connections with people and despair of getting them#and I do know what it's like to wish I could get something right#Percy and Holden AND JIM all express those things at one point or another#they express other things too. they feel very REAL. so you listen to them and you connect with them#and just like with real people you look at them and they become more attractive to you (both literally and figuratively)-#-as you get to know them and understand them better#that's how you characterize#that's good writing#and in Jim's case good ANIMATING too#continually blown away by the massive amount of energy and thought and buckets and buckets of INTENTION that went into Treasure Planet#and it was not released at the proper time to get the attention it should've gotten

Let’s be clear, I don’t want to have anything to do with the new Flash movie, for the personal reasons that I’m not interested and also based on what I know I would not enjoy it at all, but.
Given DC’s decision to use CGI zombies of beloved actors:
Do people today, like, actually know who George Reeves is? Do people actually watch his TV show? I tend to wander off in my own directions a lot, so I have literally no idea what the average person does or does not know. (Bonus if said people are actually from the US, which I am not.)

when I was 19 in 2019 I got these Vibes about 2023, it wouldn't be good or bad it would just be a Significant year
2020 was so bad that 2021 could only be better, it started good and then I got paranoid that 2022 was gonna be bad in comparison, so I mentally prepared myself for 2022 months in advance
then by the summer 2021 suddenly became worse than all of 2020 combined, but it improved by about september
bc of the mentally preparing myself months before, 2022 was amazing, but bc it started so good I got the feeling that it wouldn't end well
the last 4 months were pretty bad, and then came 2023
I got many different vibes for it over the past 4 years, but one of the main things was that there'd been a pattern going since 2015
2015: extremely good
2016: extremely bad
2017: average
2018: pretty decent
2019: extremely good
2020: extremely bad
2021: average
2022: pretty decent
so 2023 was expected to be really good? but also it had to get up from 2022's bad ending so the goodness was gradual
my brain is prepared for a good last 4 months to compare to 2022's bad last 4 months
but also following the pattern, 2024 should be extremely bad, and once I've got the thought in my head that a year will be bad, there's no going back. which would explain the extremely bad year following an extremely good year
2015 and 2019 were unreal, which meant 2016 and 2020 would've looked bad in comparison no matter what, so they just completely gave up and decided to be awful
but anyway it's 'getting paranoid about next year' season, also I can never escape the patterns of time etc etc
#in 5 days it's the 10th anniversary of the beginning of my memory and dates obsession. which is fun#oh time thoughts why must you run my life#why must you keep constant surveillance on my thoughts and if i think the wrong thing then something disastrous will happen#fun fun times 👍#also like *19yo thoughts voice* ''something very bad will happen in 2020''#*19yo thoughts voice* ''2023 will be a significant year'' and then me paranoidly thinking what could be That significant that i'm getting#info about it now? oh my god someone's gonna die#and then by 2023 someone died#bc i reblogged that post saying 'reblog to get good news in late march'#which meant i left the thoughts unsupervised by late march bc i thought i was protected by that post#then my friend and his toxic girlfriend had a massive fight and i was like 'oh my god they're gonna break up this must be the good news'#then they stayed together and my sister's friend died instead#as if the time patterns were reminding me never to let my thoughts relax like that again#i need to always remember every memory and make sure i don't accidentally control the future again#i know realistically i don't control the future and i didn't cause my sister's friend to die and i didn't cause the pandemic#and i know my brain is very irrational#but still#this happens way too much and idk i just don't want something really bad to happen in 2024#hopefully it'll do a weird swapover like with 2017/18#bc before that odd number years were good and even number years were bad starting in 2014#or like odd number years would start bad but end good and the even number years would be the other way round#but 2017 stayed neutral throughout and then 2018 started bad ended good#then until 2021 the pattern was swapped#2021 was weird bc it started and ended good but was horrendous in the middle#no other year has ever done that#so yeah 2024 could do something weird and swap with another year idk#but i'll have to see#ramble

It is very funny consuming Sonic content but not ACTUAL canon Sonic content, I've watched tons of Sonic FANS make stuff about Sonic like animations, let's plays, roleplays and in general talking about Sonic games and characters, BUT I HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD MOST OF THE CHARACTER'S CANONICAL VOICES. ONLY IMPRESSIONS AND DUBS THAT IS ALL I KNOW. I JUST HEARD ESPIO'S VOICE FOR THE FIRST TIME WTF IS THAT

travis: hey can you like. do a something about that alien prince guy who wants to conquer the world??
henry: lol no. sorry not sorry. i'm too busy in my villain era to care about that </3
[video id below!]
[video id: a cutscene from nmh3, in which the characters Travis Touchdown and Henry Cooldown are having a conversation that is hostile in tone and nature. The context that led up to this conversation was about the revelation that Travis, Henry and Jeane (of whom are siblings) tried to runaway from their serial killer father, only to be found and separated. Henry states that his memories were wiped and implanted with memories of being the child of the Cooldown Family. The following conversation in the video goes as follows:
Travis: "So fucking what? This is something you gotta bring up right here, right now?"
Henry: " 'Right here, right now' is exactly why I bring it up little brother. You were always crying. Keep on crying as you live, as you always have. No - keep on crying as you die."
Travis: "You really turned out fucked up, you know that? The fuck is all this Dark Side bullshit? Before worrying about me, kill that asswipe."
Henry: "FU... He's not my target. He's yours."

What do you think Queepie will look like when he's older? More like his mom? His dad? Since he's technically the 'strongman' of the Aquato's do you think he'd be buff when he's older?
Queepie looks like he's the shortest of his siblings when he's all grown up (shortest being a relative term when the actual shortest is still well over the average height), because his stockier build (Queepie with strongman chonk Queepie with strongman chonk) does look shorter next to Dion's leaner build. Queepie is in fact taller than Dion by two inches.
As for whether Queepie looks more like Augustus or Donatella,,, I think he looks like Queepie! He's got Augustus' sturdiness and he's got Donatella's nose but he's ultimately Queepie all in all.
