[After Action Report]
{"Some details are gonna be altered for the safety of individuals involved. Union officials will receive the full version." =Deuces=}
[Operation: Three Candles Deep]
[Operation Handler: Aimee Smith. Callsign "Morse"]
[Operation Supplementary Forces: S.O.G Wheelock]
[Operation Team: Morningstar Squadron, @ras-favourite-balor aka Brigand]
[Morningstar Squadron: Pilot Longboard, Pilot Roadburn]
[Purpose of Operation: Retrieval of Harrison NHP Specialist.]
{Legal Addendum: "Don't forget to show off the gray space of why this was allowed, long rim locales give us more flexibility. I'll input the extra needed info in here." =Adler= \>LegalDocument.LongRim.Grayspace.Harrsion</}
[Begin Audio Playback]
Our purpose in this operation was simple. Retrieve a Harrison Armories NHP Specialist for the purposes of repairing a Seccom Era casket. Currently for the safety of this specialist they are in protective custody and we will be awaiting Union DoJ/HR input before further action.
S.O.G Wheelock deployed the Morningstar team, Brigand for the purposes of this log will be referred to as a member of the Morningstar Team. The squadron will be referred to separately should it be needed.
The team dropped quietly under H.A scanners and breached a relatively uninhabited hangar. Scans indicated a total of 2 civilian deaths and several subaltern damages. CMC will be handing over adequate manna for each civilian death to the DoJ/HR to be brought to the families of the deceased.
Morningstar team then found the quickest route to the civilian muster station and applied intimidation tactics via destroying security subalterns in order to find the NHP Specialist. For the remainder of this report they will be referred to as "Volt". No civilians in the muster station were harmed. Volt was to be brought into CMC custody unharmed.
Volt was put in the care of Longbeard, the surviving family Longbeard had is willing to publicly release the history of the pilot. \>LongbeardDossier.CMC</, \<TheIronBearOfTheDawnlineShore.UNArch>/.
For a brief overview Longbeard had served under H.A for several years on the Dawnline shore. Longbeard Defected and fled to the Long Rim, settled down before circumstances led to their enlistment with their adoptive child Roadburn.
The team with the intelligence provided by Volt were forced into direct combat with H.A forces. Two commanders and what were later revealed to be several Z Line clones. Both officers were killed in battle. While the team could have chosen to simply extract further the call was made to kill the Lt in a bid to prevent the flash clones from continuing to attack and...
[+Audio playback suggests sounds of soft crying and collecting ones self+]
Apologies... And to prevent harm to Volt. Once to the extraction point it was revealed there was a mass cloning operation. \<OperationThreeCandlesDeepPhotoLog.FlashCloningPods>/
The team decided to extract Volt and then destroy the cloning pods. This was not in the original contract but was a choice to prevent further atrocity. It should be noted Volt was threatened when they questioned the purposes of being extracted as well as the task they were required to do. This is not by CMC standards and will be reminded heavily to all further extraction teams. Volt was launched from a ship escape pod and picked up shortly after by S.O.G Wheelock. Volt was given a medical exam and was deemed as healthy with bruising, minor bruising normal from riding shotgun in a mech was expected. Volt was given food, water, and was allowed space to exist without constant supervision.
The team attempted to destroy the pods manually but...
[+The tail end of crying has been included. The Handler spent an hour highly distressed recording this portion+]
The team was overwhelmed quickly by several flashclones and the H.A commander of the operation. Longbeard gave several chances for the H.A forces to surrender before calling... C..calling for the other to retreat.
Longbeard utilized the enclave pattern support shield to attempt to detonate several reactor cores as a method of cooking off the fuel lines in the relatively abandoned portion of the ship with the knowledge that most of the ships fail-safes were operational due to the lack of damage done by the team.
It is CMC's recommendation to commend Brigand for attempting to rescue Longbeard from this sacrifice via Intangible HORUS technology.
[+Further audio was deemed stable enough despite Handler Morse crying+]
The flash cloning pods were destroyed and there was minimal civilian loss of life in that portion of the ship. CMC as stated before will be providing reparation costs to Union for them to sort to the families. A total of five reactors cooked off under the support shield. The cascading explosion and fuel lines destroyed a portion of the ship, namely the flash cloning work and a portion of the research labs.
Roadburn then breached via an escape pod and picked up Brigand who had returned to real space and both were picked up by S.O.G Wheelock.
It is the official stance of CMC that while the destruction of the flash cloning facility was not within the terms of the operation it was within conduct with the utopian pillars and was the correct option.
As a handler I... I... I lost a good pilot. And.. fuck... Ra below...
As a handler I stand by the actions of my pilots.
CMC will not be paying reparations to Harrison Armories for the destruction of their property nor the overblown number of civilian deaths....
Till Legends Bleed.
Ending this after action report Handler Aimee Smith, Callsign "Morse" authorization key "Walking on Sunshine"

[original drawing date: 7th, 16th, 20th, 21st Oct, 2nd Nov 2023]
Some character portraits for a Lancer campaign I'm currently running where the PCs are a Department of Justice and Human Rights Libration Team. It's been a blast running it, kinda wanna play in a campaign though lmao
In order:
Watcher (Deeja Sharvanoceda), an NHP Specialist who joined a DoJ/HR Liberation Team. DMPC. A huge dork.
Holographic form of ISHTAR, Watcher's custom NHP partially designed using her neural architecture. Caring and motherly, but willing to fight to protect those she protects (mostly Watcher)
Ronin (Rhosen Haruka), an allied DoJ/HR mech pilot who helps the team sometimes. Quiet and withdrawn, rarely seen. Does not speak Union Common.
Baldur (Hadrian Lasher), a flash-cloned soldier from a secretive facility only known as The Daycare. One of the PCs. Sounds gruff and soldierly, but is kind of a weirdo who picks up random hobbies.
Huntress (Selene Montoya), an ex-cop outlaw from a distant frontier Diasporan world. One of the PCs. A bit of a violent oddball, who enjoys streaming her mech combat fights.
Duke (Stephan Winterwoods), a prince from a monarchistic Diasporan world who escaped one of his siblings' murderous bids to power. One of the PCs. Shy and paranoid outside of the mech, bold and confident within.
Siren (Moira Dante-Lehrmann), a former celebrity from the Core world of Chenoliv. One of the PCs. Confident and charming, and designated combat leader, but seems to enjoy giant cannons a bit too much.
Siren belongs to @badgerthethirteenth

COMPILING...
...
...
Right, it's been a bit, but I finally got that report declassified for everyone, no sense hiding the shame if we want to maintain a semblance of reputation.
The New Albion conflict.
Location: Streppon City/Orbital Evevator "The Beanstalk"/Sector 11 Polar missile base, New Albion, Diaspora World
Time: 22.06.5025u-04.11.5025u
Result: Close Victory against Rogue Mercenary Warband "Hand of Roland", total planetary nuclear disarmament.
Territorial Changes: At time of writing negotiations are undergoing to see if New Albion will remain Diaspora or be absorbed into Union.
Belligerents: New Albion Resistance/DoJ/HR Peacekeeper Battlegroup 7 (Unknown division)/Albatross Wing (Unkown battlegroup)/ACS Internal Affairs Mechanised Battlegroup 4, 13th Shock Division/"Atom Walkers" Mercenary Battlegroup, Disaster Branch 6 and Rogue Mercenary Warband "Hand of Roland" Battlegroup 1, 23rd Armoured Division, 11th Strike Division, Battlegroup 5, 8th Naval Division, 2nd Artillery Division and Battlegroup 8, 32nd Infantry Division, 1st Exotic Materials Division, 15th Strike Division.
Commander's and Leaders: Douglas Hopp (NAR), Harriet Vern (NAR), Unkown Union DoJ/HR Commander, Unkown Albatross Commander, Lucriza Diaz (IA), Marchionne Torrens (IA), Hui Ci Ardito (AW), Voinea Mcbrown (AW), Creche Hindman (AW), Simson Birkenholz (HoR), Prasanta Vanguilder (HoR), Prasanta Vanguilder (HoR), Irmengild Belizaire (HoR), Razvan Maloof (HoR), Delphin Busscher (HoR), Erblina Paro (HoR)
Casualties: NAR: 155,000 (23,505 Captured or MIA), DoJ/HR: 10,230 (332 MIA), Albatross: 11,600 (12 MIA), ACS IA 16,070 (844 Captured or MIA), AW 55,700 (7 MIA), HoR 450,000 (10,645 Captured by NAR, 10,312 Captured by DoJ/HR 41,602 Captured by ACS IA, 6,453 MIA).
Further Notes: Questioning has been slow going, as expected most of the HoR grunts were kept in the dark as to why they were attacking, explanations varied, ranging from official ACS endorsement (we didn't), guidance from a "Higher Power" or A wealthy anonymous Contracter (who can pay a mercenary company to steal a planet?) To mame a few excuses. On a more positive note, relief work has gone well thanks to support from @officialunionhr and @albatross-lancer so New Albion is looking to be rebuilt by the end of the planetary year. Lucriza has filed numerous questions to the requisition teams to try and find out when the HoR went rogue.
That is all, Tallow Out.

[DISCIPLINARY ACTION]
MSMC-796 "Heaven's Fury" is on a one-month deployment probation, effective immediately. They may not accept commissions (paid or unpaid), recommend or commission fellow squadrons for deployments on their behalf, send or receive commission offers, or otherwise engage in the field duties of a MSMC Lancer squadron.
However, all squad members are permitted to engage with PR responsibilities as usual, within the updated guidelines handed down from MSMC Upper Management.
MSMC-148 "Neon Scene" is on a two-week deployment probation, effective immediately, following the same terms as above.
+++++++
There, that should about do it. Hopefully command is satisfied with that. MSMC-148 is sending in their recorded footage from the field for review (seeing as they were actually able to get the full scope of things from the sidelines), and all of our text correspondences with everyone have been compiled and timestamped for viewing from as many perspectives as I and Slipshod could track down.
Obligatory thank you to the boys from Hades & Jackal, Esq. for their assistance in drafting this. (Hopefully Slipshod's little "addendum" in the Reparations section doesn't show up in their copy.)
TL;DR - Our entire squad is banned from any sort of field deployment for a month, and we're probably gonna owe some pretty serious reparations to the KTB for blowing a Worldkiller-sized hole in Karrakis during combat (if/when they actually get back to us).
Kennedi's gonna need a new mech once she wakes up, and as far as the medical team can tell us, she's slated for a new arm prosthetic once her burns start to heal over and they can safely remove the old one without damaging anything further. But she is in fact alive, and is currently stable. Sometimes, stubbornness is a good thing.
It's been one hell of a week. We all need some rest. Expect us to be on and off for a bit as we wait for this entire mess to blow over.
-- Angel
[OOC: FC's Note - look for the new tag (#the fireman saga) on my blog to track down all of our side of the story!]
#lancerrpg#lancer ttrpg#lancer rpg#+ I don't like the look of whomever this Union “vigilante” is that's trying to track down everyone's incident reports#+ it's like they popped up outta nowhere just to get all of us in trouble with both Union and the KTB all at once#+ maybe the legal teams should investigate this one before we hand over any incriminating evidence#+ Christ-the-Buddha Almighty why must legal matters be such a pain in the ass to get over with#// I'll have the boys from H&J give them a once-over before we hand over any documents - they've dealt with Union reps before#// usually if Union wants a word then their DOJ/HR agent will do it themselves but they've been quiet for a long time now#after-action report#the fireman saga

Standard Bearer
The personal mech of Rebeka Blanche, callsign HUSSAR.
Standard Bearer is a Sagarmatha- one of the original Sagarmathas, in fact. Rebeka has been piloting it for 500 odd years now, from the first Liberator Brigades during the revolution, through burnout in the DOJ/HR, and finally in a little backwater system called Calliope. Standard Bearer is adorned with dozens, hundreds, of hand prints in blue- from the people she's saved, and those she fought alongside. She remembers every last print well enough to touch them up by hand, after a fight. Rebeka is played by my wonderful friend, @ace-disgrace-on-the-case. She kitbashed the mech, and we finished painting her together today. It's an honor to be her GM for this campaign <3

-- HA Sunzi @ LL6 -- [ LICENSES ] HA Sunzi 2, IPS-N Blackbeard 1, IPS-N Vlad 2, SSC Mourning Cloak 1 [ CORE BONUSES ] Titanomachy Mesh, Improved Armament [ TALENTS ] Duelist 3, Vanguard 3, Combined Arms 2, Brawler 1 [ STATS ] HULL:4 AGI:2 SYS:0 ENGI:2 STRUCTURE:4 HP:20 ARMOR:1 STRESS:4 HEATCAP:9 REPAIR:5 TECH ATK:+1 LIMITED:+1 SPD:5 EVA:9 EDEF:8 SENSE:15 SAVE:14 [ WEAPONS ] FLEX MOUNT: Impaler Nailgun MAIN/AUX MOUNT: Chain Axe / Fold Knife [ SYSTEMS ] Synthetic Muscle Netting, Personalizations, Blink Charges x4, Accelerate, Blinkspace Tunneler
I call this one "These Four Arms Ain't For Nothing!"
This build exploits a very funny side-effect of the fact that the Sunzi can freely redirect its own teleportation at no cost.
Even when you control a Grapple, Grappling disables two important things: your ability to take reactions and Boost. Conveniently, however, the Sunzi's Blink Anchor is specifically stated to not be a reaction, and the Sunzi's Slip trait is not a Boost. This means that you can place your blink anchor down, run across the battlefield, grapple an enemy, and use Slip to redirect the teleport to the blink anchor. The end result is that both you and the enemy you grappled end up next to your Blink Anchor, circumventing the usual cost to redirect the teleportation of any enemy target.
Congratulations: you are now wanted by the DoJ/HR for abduction.
Our build largely just works to support this strategy. We have Synthetic Muscle Netting to make sure we're always controlling grapples, we have both Titanomachy Mesh and Duelist 3 to give us free Grapple attempts, Brawler 1 to make our melee attacks against grappled targets more accurate, a Fold Knife to potentially proc a free teleport, and an Impaler Nailgun to keep enemies immobilized in the spot we abduct them to.

Reminder that as a Union DoJ/HR field agent I'm legally obligated to remind Omninet users about the spread of disinformation on this platform from dubious sources, namely those that supposedly have no hand in politics.
Remember everyone, the only fully ethical mech manufacturer in the Orion Arm is the Royal Karrakin Foundry, home to completely original designs such as the Orchis and the Tagetes.

Words by @nightmareworks, art by @moiderahart
The Midway is the logical extension of IPS-N’s purchase and conversion of Atropos from pastoral world to military-industrial nightmare. Developed to be used by “Protection Officers” and “Stabilization Delegates” of the IPS-N Admiralty PeaceCorp (the civilian equivalent of the Marine Police) in anti-riot and anti-rebellion actions in the megasprawls of Atropos. “What policing would require a mech?” a sane man asks. There is no policing that requires mechanized support- this is a tool of oppression, wrought by greedy hands and unleashed upon a populace who strive to escape it.
The Midway has only seen large usage in the Auric Range, as the local Admiralty steps up its attempts to contain and control the ever riotous population of Atropos and the colonial holdings in Ladon’s Corpse. DoJ/HR has nominally signed off on the design of the Midway, but not its usage, and hounds IPS-N for every deployment.
Occasionally in Atropos, one finds a Midway that has been brought down by the populace, stripped of corporate branding and reworked into a neighborhood protector, standing firm against incursions by Protection Officers and allowing for some respite from the megasprawl nightmare of the Fortress World that has made the mech infamous.

COHESION WARTIME COUNCIL COMMISON
LEVIER
In 5017u, the Omninet explodes with news. For the first time in Thirdcomm, an diaspora colony has rebelled against an major power. Smith-shimano’s colony on a world near the edge of the sixteenth wing of the Milky Way has set up an military checkpoint at the blinkgate. This is The Cohesion, an three-planet, fiercely militaristic, communist, and anti-corpro civilization. Still young, it has embargoed all Smith-shimano ships and contact, transmitting an manifesto to union DoJ ships, entailing their demands and terms. The brief but bloody ambush on the small Smith-Shimano military presence in the system revealed the vehemence of their distaste for all corprostates.
As the newest producer of mech frames, little is known of the overall design and goal of the Cohesive. The Cohesion Wartime Commission Council is an organ of the government that commissions independent designers of mech frames, employing them at extremely competitive rates to ensure loyalty. The CWCC’s stated goal is to “produce and supply high-quality mechanized chassis for the Cohesive military while ensuring the Cohesive stops maintaining a reliance on for mech frames nor supporting fascistic, unreliable and capitalistic corprostates.” Additionally, the CWCC licenses its designs to independent actors, though it has yet to allow any bulk orders for organizations except for Union.
Example Flashpoint: New Ground
The birth of an nation is always shrouded in confusion, backstabbing, counterrevolution, suppression, and change. The newly born Cohesive is turning its eyes to the universe, and they do not like what they see. Although they are on agreeable terms with Union, they have an violent distaste for Smith-Shimano and an burning hate for the colonial projects of Harrison Armory. The one other major producer of mech frames, IPS-N, however, is less universally despised. By popular vote, the Cohesive has invited IPS-N’s leadership for an intensive week-long negotiation, recognising the reality of their position: although they have scored a victory, if they launch into outright war with any of the corprostates so early, they will be invariably crushed, potentially by an coalition between their two largest enemies. They are resting the waters for the possibility of a mutual defense treaty with either Union or IPS-N. The conference will be hosted on the orbital ring of the gas giant Salamander.
There are several ways for the players to enter this scenario: as bright-eyed revolutionary soldiers accompanying the Cohesive diplomats, hardened IPS-N careeer soldiers, a team of the many, many spies and agents sent to spy, assassinate, or influence the outcome of the events, or even part of the very large crew of Doj-HR peacekeepers assigned to the station to prevent the aforementioned meddling. The artificial air of the ring is thick with the scent of drying blood, and it's not just coming from the hands of the Cohesive soldiers.
Feedback appreciated. Does the Cohesive feel organic? I realise that the campaign doesn't have much capacity for combat, at least before/ as long as shit doesn't hit the fan. Does that seem boring?

We can answer this, as it's partially our failure to act which caused it.
Long and extremely complicated story short, Commodore had the last remaining remnant of Sylvia destroyed in an act of revenge/spite during the events of the Intercompany Brawl between CMC and MSMC, and now she's gone completely off the deep end.
To our knowledge, most everyone in CORSAIR has gone full cult mode in support of Commodore, hence the "Glory to the Mercenary Queen" sign-off and cryptic choice of language.
Furthermore, the recent asks recieved from aforementioned anonymous sources around the Omninet have further aggravated Commodore's mental breakdown. We recieved one ourselves, but as no threats or ciphers were attatched, we presume ourselves safe (for the time being, anyways) from whatever trouble is brewing.

To all survivors of the 30 hours war. To all surviving members of CORSAIR Mercenary Company our home may have been ripped from us, it may be soaked in the blood of our fallen comrades.... But... It's back in our hands.
The company is dead. CORSAIR Mercenary Company is gone. But... The spirit of what it means to be a CORSAIR is far from gone.
She's battered, and ripped to shreds, her guns pulled out, her streets barricaded still and her shops boarded shut. But friends.... She is ours again. Our home... OUR HOME IS OURS AGAIN.
They cannot take that from us. We can bring her back. Build our lives back, rebuild our shops, our rooms, our safety. Because the Mercenaries we were will never return.... We can still do something with our skills. We can still do good in this galaxy. I offer shelter to anyone willing to help rebuild our home... Rebuild your home. I offer a place in the new life we can build.
But before that... Everyone thank APMS-341-A from @leastinsanesscpilot for filing all the paperwork to get our home back.
Back to the core of why we're doing this... Before our home burned. Harrison Armory accused of slaughter of vicious violence against them... And we told them no. No we would not pay reparations for their crimes. That we would not give them money for the pain and suffering they caused.
Before our home burned we showed the Galaxy the crimes we committed on Three Candles Deep to expose the utter horror of the flash cloning project that Longbeard died to stop.
And as our home burned we fought for what was right, we held off the endless horror of our own friends.. of our family turning guns on us because we wouldn't follow our old leader in her madness. She burned our ties to so many....
I tried to save as many of us as I could. I failed to save Commodore. I failed to save most of the handlers. I failed to save most of us.
But we survived. Despite it all we survived.
That is the story of CORSAIR. We are survivors. We are rebels. We refused to bend under the boot of the status quo.
CORSAIR is the home of the lost
CORSAIR is the home of those seeking something more
CORSAIR was the chance for something new... If you had nothing... Or had nothing but excess.
We never did this for the money truly.... We know the old joke of three deployments. Three times boots hit the ground and you could retire. But we didn't retire.
We kept going in.
For glory.
For a purpose.
For the family we made.
So let's do something worthwhile again. Fight a fight against the status quo like Sylvia wanted all those years ago.
When I awoke from my Coma I made the choice to continue to piss off @harrison-armory-incorporated I chose to release the footage from every deployment we had with them, had against them, anything related. Because we turned on one another because they kicked our fragile foundation.... So I kicked back.
We have evidence
We have expirence
We have mechs
We have the tools to take the fight to the companies. To take the fight to every place where innocent people are hurt.
And we can do what we do best. Tell stories.
Frontline reporting. Taking care of those who can't fight. While we do everything we can to not bend to authority.
If the DoJ/HR can't be everywhere at once. And if Albatross won't show the Galaxy what's going on, then we'll do both.
We'll rebuild. I know Anna already wants to design us a fleet.... It's time to remember what it means to be a CORSAIR.
SO LET'S REBUILD OUR HOME
LET'S FUCKING FIGHT A GOOD FIGHT
AND LET US RESIST TILL LEGENDS BLEED

More TTRPG Fake Politics Hot Takes, more cohesive this time.
Want to go back to 2019 lancer where the nuance of the DoJ/HR's liberator teams amounted to 'Union has a state body dedicated to the elimination of fascism and slavery', but people couldn't understand the text and conflated this concept with US imperialism (because the US definitely intervenes in the same way the DoJ/HR does /s) Union, if it is in any way a just state (which I like to think it is), should be taking every possible step short of total war to ensure the end of Harrison Armory and the Karrakin Trade Baronies as extractive capitalist systems and facilitate their rebuilding as worker-first societies. Union will never achieve its goals while those two states exist in the manner they do currently. This should not be controversial.
