hi, weird question- do you have any tips or tricks for storyboarding/animatics/learning how to board? been wanting to get into it but not sure how

Hmmmm I wouldn’t say there are many tricks to storyboarding, however when it comes to starting out I think the best thing you can do is start with short things.

- When I started boarding the first things I ever made were short animatics to vine audios. No background, nothing fancy, just a character in a white void. Storyboarding heavily relies on your stamina to get things done, so treat it like prepping for a mile run. Start with small things and slowly build up.

- When you’re drawing characters for storyboards try to simplify them as much as you can. The character should still be readable, but you don’t wanna be drawing any unnecessary details over and over again.

N’s design consists of a lot of triangular shapes so I utilized those a lot when simplifying for boarding reason. I dont include his caution tape design, no hat design, no armband, and his tail is a line with a cylinder at the end (usually I draw his tail. I forgot to here). It really helps to learn how to break down characters for the sake of convenience. (I would even argue I could simplify N even more)

- Become familiar with film shot terminology! What is a medium shot? A dutch angle? A worm’s eye view? Once you familiarize yourself with these terms the next tip will be much easier.

- Rewatch your favorite shows and pay attention to the way they compose scenes! Ask yourself why you like the shots you do, and try to archive that info in your brain so you can use it for your own stuff! Some of my favorite shows are My Little Pony, The Owl House, Winx Club, and Amphibia. I would rewatch episodes and silently take note of the shots I liked so I could mimic them later!

- Lastly what I will say is just have fun with it. It’s great to strengthen your skills, but don’t turn it into a chore or else you won’t enjoy it. The best work comes out of having fun :3

Today's topic- the change in animation in LMK

I know like the majority of the Fandom has probably been sent to the ER after season 5 animation (or the emotion couldn't tell) but I think someone said that the animation slightly changed from like the Pilot to s 1-3, somewhere there, so like 3 different animation at this point, maybe??

Alright here's my thoughts

AGGAGAGAGGGGHHHHHHHH

Okay for real this time-

When I first watched LMK, I fell IN LOVE with the fluid motions, the active movement, the anime-style Influence, the exaggeration, the most random fun moments, pop ups, yse of environment, angles, camera movement, facial and body expression and other stuff I don't know the name of

Now as someone who's never watched Anime, please don't kill me, I don't exactly know what that looks like, but try going anywhere on the internet without tripping down the stairs and falling into the basement of ANIME

Also, I'm used to more rigid, beautiful backrounds, great lighting, or basic show animation. Such as Trollhunters, Amphibia, The Owl House, Big City Greens, Ninjago, How to Train your Dragon, Carmen Sandiego and others

So as you can see, this was new to me, and I fricken loved it

Now I can tell there definitely has been change from the Pilot to season 4, more refined, less sloppy

So, when season 5-

Oh dear, I love you Wild Brain, I really do, Ninjago and Carmen Sandiego WERE BEAUTIFUL

BUT AHHHHHH

I will say this, this is a new artstyle, they need practice, and I'm sure it'll improve, but this is not that time it's time to CRITISIZE GET THE RED PEN (maybe I am an English Teacher)

Remember what I said about what I love about LMK animation? Okay now throw it out the window into the Fire of FRICK THIS

Now I will say, they used some angles pretty well, such as using the environment to show emotion/tension, like when it would Pam out and something was blocking the two characters, from Wukong to Macaque to the poll in the Pagado and then a mountain between MK and Wukong near the end- look for its cool- someone pointed it out here on Tumblr can't remember name sorry

2nd, the expressions look really typical, like I miss the shot eyebrow from Wukong, or the the pathetic puppy eyes of MK, or the :3 for Mei, or the furious faces of Pigsy, the sparkly pure joy of Sandy, the chaotic gremlinness of MO, the evil Edit maker smiles of Macaque (I've seen your tiktoks) ALL THE LITTLE EXTRA THAT MADE THE EXPRESSIONS AND HUMOR/TENSION/EMOTION BETTER

3rd, the movements. Seen especially in the second episode when they escape. It's just, so basic running, like compare them running to MK's run in s2 running from the LBD and then when he ran in s4 away from the Ink scroll. Just so much more fear and dread. Also talking bout LBD, her voice actor? Phenomenal as always? Her movements and how they animate her? She seems more like a red headed doll with button eyes than the horror of something like FNAF(haven't played FNAF so can't really compare) what I'm saying is she seemed less huanting, a weary, fear-instilling, and bone-chilling(shut up let me pun) presence this time around, which really makes the scene less dramatic, but the camera angles, voice acting, and some animation still make it somewhat good.

Okay, this post is getting long and I can rant all day, and that's not even with me rewatching the show to pick it apart, someone probably already has good for them I'll look for it👍

In conclusion, comes of more dull, simple, rough, and rushed. S5 story, which has some problems, really hit deep in the last few episodes, mostly MK and Wukong, and if the studio beforehand continued animating, then I think it would have been a masterpiece, really sad to see the wasted potential

I know it's a new studio, but I wish they took more time to practice and learn, and maybe do it on a season that wasn't like the big reveal and end (I'd say a more happy season but let's be honest the Trauma train ain't stopping for a LONG TIME)

so, I guess I'll give it a 4/10, points for using the backround to storytell, still got some great angles, some funny bits here and there (the soldiers where a joy), action scenes were somewhat good, not a lot can't judge more, and pity points because I know they're still learning

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA she is so ASDHSUJD. Okay I started watching the owl house because I knew there was a WLW couple, so obviously I had to check it out. But upon watching the show, I got so emotionally connected to it, or moreso the protagonist, Luz, that it could go beyond some people's understandings... I remember that almost any scene showing her neurodivergent traits would hit SO. CLOSE. HOME. It would be unbelievable. I literally rewatched the show more than seventeen times one summer. She is just so goshdarn relatable man. She's the weird kid, has no friends, loves making anime edits, is OBSESSED with a book series, loves witches and magic and stuff, has ADHD, an attention span that is so high when she's engaging with something she likes doing and so low when she's bored. She's just so lovely. I know a lot of people found her annoying in season one but she hit close home to me. Season two was amazing as well and she started getting even MORE relatable!! She started showing her people pleasing, how much she blames herself, it was so sad but I was glad to see a character I could relate to so much on screen. I mean i personally didn't experience the loss of my father and I personally do have one friend whom I'm able to share my life with, but she's still super relatable. She can be so silly and so cool. And her impulsivity and the way she realized she doesn't know what she wants to do when she grows up also hit close home. Mwah"

Who am I? INTRODUCTION

Alright, so I've been here for like..half a year now? I actually don't entirely know, but ish 6 months. But I feel like I want to introduce myself. Idk why.

- So. Hi. I'm tohjwcc.. I honestly wanna change it, but I'm scared people won't recognize me if I do so haha. So, I guess I'm stuck with it for a lil while longer. - My personality is complicated. For any camp cretaceous fan, I can easily describe myself as a softer version of Yaz. I have a strong Yaz side, but another big piece of my personality is just quirky and weird and funny (people say I'm funny.. so I hope they're telling the truth lol). But also, I've been told... SO. MANY. TIMES.... That I'm too nice for my own good. I'm kind and nice to everyone. I can't be mean to anyone. At least not on purpose. That is one thing that separates me and Yaz from being completely identical (personalitywise) (which again isn't entirely true, my quirky and weird side is bigger than my serious/Yaz side. I'm basically the yasammy icon. That quirky side could be referred to as Sammy lol.) But ofc there are other small stuff that also separates us two a little but yeah. (Tbh idk... I haven't really figured myself out yet. Idk what I am like, I just wanna be like Yaz cuz I love her so deeply and I can really relate to her in so many different ways. Idk, maybe I'm just not like her at all. Maybe I just wanna be like her...? Ugh, I don't know, I don't know myself. Dang it. My dream is to be cool. Like my girl Yaz. Okay, enough rambling).

- On this blog.. is it a blog? I don't even know. Anyways, on this account thingy I mostly post about camp cretaceous/chaos theory. That is where my main interest is. That leads us to my next.. ugh, me and words. I don't even know what it's called in my language. Paragraph, maybe? Let's go with that. That leads us to my next paragraph.

- Favorite shows. I've got a LOT, but the ones that might appear on this account are probably just Jwct/jwcc and the owl house. There's a chance like stranger things and heartstopper could be joining us too. I know nothing. I could be posting/reblogging random crap as well, so nothing is for sure.

- I started watching camp cretaceous when season 3 had been released. I was in my "Jurassic world era", so I had been watching all the Jurassic world movies (ish), so I guess I just wanted to rewatch some of them again, and then I saw it. "Jurassic world camp cretaceous". I was like "OoO". I began to watch it, and fell in love with it IMMEDIATELY. Also, a funny fun fact, I started watching it when I was 12. And now I'm 15. This means I was as old as the youngest character when I started watching it, and I am NOW as old as the OLDEST characters are in the show. This show has been with me through all my teenage years so far. I'm so greatful for this show and these campers. They helped me through so much, and I could never thank them enough.

-The jwcc character i can relate most to is Yaz. 10000%. Like I said before, she is so me. My friend says I'm a Yaz, and she once said I even looked like Yaz, which is cool, but idk how cuz I'm not a brunette haha. But these are the bestest compliments I've ever gotten.

Favorite The Owl House episode?

tbh, haven't rewatched the show in a long long time so might need to rewatch to be sure. for a while, it was eda's requiem. it means a lot to me and genuinely made me realize shit about myself. as dumb as it sounds it's what made me realize "...oh. if I died, that'd...probably fuck up the people around me." so it has a massively special place in my heart. and also the depth it gives eda! made me reevaluate shit about how I view parents and also just. god. the importance of found family and how important it is to acknowledge that it's just as important as blood family. found family is so often treated as secondary and seeing it portrayed as just as important is so fucking good and god! middle aged characters with depth! middle aged WOMEN with depth! some of the most accurate depression rep I've seen. she feels so real and raw and god, it's really nice to see a middle aged character who gave up learning to get back up again and stop feeling like they missed the best of their life and wasted it, and aaorudhdjd. god. I love eda. the music is beautiful and the duet is haunting, raeda fascinates me, and bard magic will ALWAYS be my favorite magic in toh.

I feel like the grey decaying thing works excellently as a metaphor for depression. it's what made me start going "is this a metaphor for mental illness?" because it FEELS like it. the voice acting is top tier and its so fucking good. it's just,,, man. a middle aged woman having an episode all to herself?? baby mes mind would've been BLOWN. her hatred of the curse wouldn't have hit nearly as hard without this episode, I think. the loneliness and feeling like it makes her Less is shown so well in this episode. it's just,,, man. as someone who's struggled with depression all my life, it resonates. she doesn't even CONSIDER king would still love her. raine saved her fucking life there and I'm still fucked up about it. it handles depression very well and its just. Man. that duet is one of the most memorable scenes in the show. darius abomination form is badass, raine's powers are so cool, the bats have my ENTIRE heart, the fucking MUSIC. brads music bangs. I love his soundtracks and this episode is just. always iconic to me.

that being said, I'm not entirely sure if it's my favorite episode right now? my brain flip flops on these things. right now I think it might be eclipse lake because it's just. SUCH a good episode. it's so gorgeous. the fight choreography, the animation, the lore, but most of all the EMOTION.

it has such excellent abuse rep. showing not only the complicated emotional reality of living with your abuser, of being dependent on your abuser, but also the fact that having an abusive relationship influences how you view ALL relationships. I love that amitys trauma isn't sidelined! what originally comes off as amity being a little TOO excited about having a girlfriend and also dana flipping off disney is shown to be amity being fucking terrified of losing this. she's so desperate to prove herself and since they're foils we gain knowledge as to what odalia and amitys relationship might've been like through hunter and gain insight into how hunter might view other relationships going forward through amity and it's LOVELY.

it also drives me insane that people use this episode as proof amity would hate hunter when. nah. nah, absolutely not. also I love how it shows how fucking KIND amity actually is. this boy's threatened and backstabbed her multiple times and is showing he's willing to do ANYTHING to win, and she still feels so much fucking sympathy for him. because she gets it. he's like her. she would've done this in his shoes. she offers him kindness and shows no sign of holding a grudge??? NONE???? this woman is fucking forgiving. she would have every right to hate his guts and she doesn't. idk what y'all mean when you say she's a jerk shes fucking KIND.

also hunters breakdown is painful to watch. I don't know what I can say about it that hasn't already been said. it's so raw and resonant, it feels like watching a real kid, it has such a realistic depiction of abused kids, what else can I say?

I also love the addressing of the cycle of abuse. hunter isn't a pure innocent baby here. he's manipulative and mean and cutthroat. hes a dick! I love him having anger issues because that's how abused kids often are! and I love amity backsliding! I love amity going tunnel vision! I love how realistic and painful the whole episode is!

they're just kids, man. you can tell the crew wanted this to be realistic and they succeeded.

I don't know which I like more. they're both just so GOOD.

I'm still rewatching season 2 of The Owl House & is quite interesting, choices, from relationships being promoted, to writing character growth, development & retconning.

Yes, there are a lot of problems I listed above in the Owl house, (especially the fandom toxicity on what you can or cant love Shippings for one, from hive mind mentality to bullying others or just lgbt rep problem erasure how they perceived it as, which is not true.

Now on My platforms, I celebrate anything & welcome opinions that are constructive well- well-explained & reasonable cause so many of kids watch all these influencers & being impressible come to life, as they say, art imitates life, life imitates art, these kid's brains wired like a train with no conductor on board lol.

One example is the fashion in the show, I feel the staff didn't do everyone justice like with the writing & costuming for the characters but they got my girl Luz, Hunter & other hex side students looking they shop at Payless & Platos in the slums at times.

Good things that happened today:

Saw a great recap that details exactly why Rooster Teeth ended up dying, not JUST because of WBD pulling the plug but also because of decisions that the company made that was ultimately them digging their own grave deeper only for WBD to throw in the coffin themselves. It was interesting, even if it hurt to watch a little.

I did rewatch that video of Rooster Teeth's founders playing Halo one last time, though. Honestly, if you want a perfect summation of what made Rooster Teeth special, that one was it. It was a group of friends coming together to play a game. And when they tried, the game's signal started glitching out and they just rolled with the punches, having a great time regardless. I like that they COULD have redone it but chose not to. MAYBE there was a time constraint that the four of them had, but they still decided that the first take was the best and I respect that.

I got to pet another dog that was excited to see me. And another customer even brought their cat. I didn't get to pet the cat, unfortunately, but it was still cool to just observe it as it judged me as it sat in the back seat. I never get to see customer bring their cats. Dogs all the time, for sure. But for cats, I've only seen it...one other time in my entire year of working.

Finished talking about another theme for The Owl House. Didn't get the chance to start on another, but I can do that on Monday.

Piemations put out another 5 AM At Freddy's video and it was as hilarious as ever. That man just nails random humor so well, even if all he's doing is recapping that Ruins DLC.

Saw a video that gave a good X-Men reading guide. So good that it made me want to read more X-Men, even tempted to follow the guide. And maybe I will follow that guide someday. Someday...

Vampire Films That Suck My Blood

But don’t SUCK. You know? What I mean? They’re good. Anyway. 

Let’s start with the super obvious ones you’ve probably seen. And if you haven’t, go see them, they’re classics. Near Dark (my personal favorite), The Lost Boys, Interview With The Vampire, Horror of Dracula (Hammer), ‘Salem’s Lot, Blacula, From Dusk Till Dawn, Let The Right One In, and Fright Night, by which I mean the one from the 80s. Now we can get into some deeper cuts. 

Night Owl | Filmed in black and white and set against the backdrop of the New York nightclub scene of the early 90s, this one is OOPS ALL VIBES. It’s full of house music and brutal murders. One of those films that feels intensely gay despite its best efforts to be straight. Very moody and arthouse. Obviously I recommend the hell out of this for a very specific crowd of people.

Pale Blood | What a nutso concept. A human is running around killing people in the style of a vampire. So a real vampire shows up to stop him. With Wings Hauser being super unhinged, as he tends to do. Lots of neon lighting that makes it all extremely 80s. And a neat little turn at the end that gives it a satisfying twist. 

Bliss | Vampirism as addiction. It’s been said, but this isn’t just about having an insatiable need. It’s about getting so goddamn high that you destroy everything around you and awaken from being blackout destructive and realize you’re ruining your own life. Pretty intense stuff. Meaning it’s very bloody and wild. It goes the extra mile, for certain. The main character is a painter, so there is also a super gorgeous painting that she creates in her very high moments that I wish I could have on my wall. 

The Night Flier | An adaptation of a Stephen King short story starring Miguel Ferrer, which I personally feel should be recommendation enough. But I’ll gladly keep going. Ferrer plays a tabloid journalist who is chasing after a serial killer who thinks he’s a vampire. THINKS, right? He just THINKS he is? Well, the deeper he goes, the more it looks like he has a real one on his hands. And he’s so fucking cynical that he’s probably going to stare into the abyss and the abyss will stare right back. 

30 Days of Night | Hey, I just recently rewatched this one. It still slaps. In Alaska, there are periods during the year where the sun doesn’t rise at all. In this case, a bunch of vampires are like SWEET. And go there and absolutely body slam everyone in town. A handful of survivors are left trying to defend themselves against these superhuman creatures that are... just the scariest looking fucking things. It looks like if a human were crossbred with a shark. What a LOOK. There are so many memorable and standout moments in this movie. Truly just watch it. 

Fright Night Part 2 | We all know the first movie. But the sequel tho. DAT SEQUEL. The big draw being Jerry’s sister Regine and her entourage of absolute characters that follow her everywhere. They’re out for revenge for the death of her brother, and suddenly the tables are turned. Charley becomes the one that can’t resist the vampire’s charms, and Regine is laughing all the way to the blood bank. She’s a queen. 

Vamp | Another intensely memorable and awesome female vampire. Grace Jones dominates the screen here as Katrina. A vampire stripper who kills when she mates. She for sure steals every scene she’s in, but the movie is also bombastically neon 80s with the dumbest and most fun sense of humor. It’s a charming movie with an amazing villainess. 

The Hunger | AND ANOTHER! Sorry for being so gay, but here’s a lesbian vampire movie. Miriam Blaylock is a vampire looking for love. And she both cares and doesn’t if that means eventually keeping your desiccated, still alive body in a box somewhere down the line. She’s a complicated lady. This was beautifully shot, very dream-like, and also stars David Bowie for some extra gay. 

Dracula (1979) | Genuinely my favorite version of Dracula. It was based off of a stage play version. Which means all the names are reversed and nothing lines up with the book, but Dracula just seems fated to be adapted very loosely. Frank Langella swaggers rather moodily through the piece, melting every woman he passes with a look. I like this take, that Dracula is just a Chad that no one can possibly outdo because no one is good looking enough to stop him. It’s all rather romantic and swoony while also featuring one of the most terrifying ghouls in cinema history. 

The Forsaken | Vampirism as an STD. If you’re bitten, you’ll battle daily with the virus that’s trying to consume you. Which makes the movie coded extremely queer, which is very fun for everyone, because it thankfully doesn’t stop there. The bad guys are super flamboyant and fun. The good guys are getting a little too involved with each other and sort of ignoring the girl sitting between them. And it makes one wish they could’ve just made it as gay as they wanted to, but the subtext is still very fun. It’s also action packed and exciting. Think 2001 version of Near Dark.

i love your ideas!!!! tbh i kept expecting cyd's parents to show up at some point during s2 lol i haven't seen the show in a while, so i don't remember a lot of specific things i would want to develop on, but i definitely think it would be very on brand for the writers to make daisy not getting married have consequences in the present. i'm also very against naldo and cyd together that relationship came so out of left field like ??? anyway are there any other shows that you liked that you wish had more seasons (or less? lol idk)? what are your all time favorite disney shows, other than bfw? - gcwca secret santa

the owl house for SURE should've had more seasons. i will die mad about their shortened last season. we could've had so much more </3 i've also heard that i didn't do it got shafted but even tho it's been on my watch list for ages i haven't gotten around to it so i can neither confirm nor deny bc i am bad at watching tv

my fave disney channel shows aside from bfw are girl meets world (ik it is. the way it is. (the communism episode!) but i had a good time watching it even if i think i would enjoy it way less on a rewatch yknow?), backstage (ik it technically just aired on disney but i really liked it! i even started some fanfic back when i watched it), gravity falls, the owl house, and i've been really loving villains of valley view !! i also remember really liking wizards of waverly place as a kid but i haven't seen it since then. i def feel like i'm forgetting some shows but who knows [shrug emoji].

What are each of the kids' weaknesses?

So I guess first off I can say their loved ones. That is an obvious answer. Beyond that though, it gets more psychological for most of them. (Though PTSD also seems to be a thing across the board.) (Below the cut there is the MK classic, Over the Garden Wall, Amphibia, and Owl House.)

Mabel: Boys. Probably boys. She also can be kind of childish but that can be both a strength, and a weakness. She also can be greedy at times but she's getting better. She also has a fear of stop motion animation and growing up (albeit that is getting better.)

Dipper: So he's both impulsive, but not impulsive. He's also very analytical to a fault. He also is very reliant on the journals when it comes to something he doesn't know so if he runs into something new and he doesn't know what he's looking at and also doesn't have a good source (i.e Ford, the internet, a folk book) he might second guess himself until he comes up with a good plan. He also has a fear of puppets (minus sock puppets) and probably trigonometry.

Coraline: I suspect her mouth can get her in trouble. Also I suspect her pride can be used against her. She also has a fear of spiders, buttons, and those crawlspace doors (turns out tiny doors are doors for crawlspaces. Saw one in North Carolina.)

Wybie: He is very skeptical but I believe that might be better after the movie. He does seem to have anxiety though so that is probably a weakness. He also seems to have scoliosis so depending on how bad that actually is... I'm not sure what his fears are to be honest besides maybe social things. He didn't see the spider things, just the hand.

Raz: He is also impulsive to a fault and eager to please. He is also naive due to being like, 10? He does seem to be crushed by the idea of disappointing his heroes too... He is recovering from a fear of water (yay!) but did seem majorly freaked out by Meat Circus too.

Lili: She is very impulsive and aggressive. She also seems to greatly enjoy fire which probably could be used against her somehow. I would also like to point out that she is also 10. She also has close connections to the higher ups of the Psychonauts so if someone figures out how to use that, that's also there. Not sure what Lili is afraid of. Maybe losing her dad but that's a give in.

Norman: This boy is anxiety coded. He is a ball of nerves and has low self esteem. Legit poke the right buttons on this kid and I think you've got him. (I now want to hug him and give him zombie movies.) He probably has fears of bullies but also that nagging feeling in the back of his head thinking that people don't want him around.

Neil: He is oblivious. Aside from that though, he's not as strong or as fast as the others. He also doesn't seem to notice some social cues. This doesn't mean that he's not nice though! He just seems to miss some. Neil tends to stump me so I don't exactly know what he would have a fear of. I am probably due for a rewatch. Wirt: He seems to care way too much about what other think of him while at the same time thinking of himself as an outcast. He has anxiety, self esteem issues, and a lack of a spine until someone says that to him. Then he has simultaneously too much and too little of a spine. He also does not do good when he's front and center of attention. And is pessimistic. He's also probably overprotective of Greg. He has stage fright, a fear of rejection, fear of getting lost, and is probably afraid of the woods at night.

Greg: He is naive to dangers and is overly optimistic. His optimism is both a strength and a weakness though. He is very much still a young child, I put him at 7. He just doesn't notice dangers. I saw this somewhere and I like this if you need a fear for Greg: Someone said that he might get nervous when its a really cold night. He just was so brave about everything so it's hard to get a fear for him. Sasha: She is aggressive as hell. She doesn't let anyone get in her way and doesn't take no for an answer. This is all both a strength and a weakness. She does seem dismissive of others ideas till later in the show too. I don't remember if she has a fear per say, I wouldn't be surprised if she was afraid of overstepping again though.

Anne: Anne really does like taking the easy way out sometimes and she does get better about this, but I can see her sometimes just wanting the easy way out still. She does also seem oblivious at times and maybe over protective of her friends. She is also very attached to her phone. She might be afraid of death in all seriousness. Also she might be worried about losing her friends again.

Marcy: She is oblivious, clumsy, and kind of air-headed. Though she is brilliant. This is both a strength and a weakness too but she wears her heart on her sleeve. She does have a tendency to look at everything like it were a game or a movie though which while it can be good for coping, it can also potentially be a weakness if someone figures out how to use that. I would not be surprised if she had many fears after True Colors. 0-o Luz: Just like Marcy, she wears her heart on her sleeve but again, both a strength and a weakness. Luz can be reckless and that tends to get her into trouble. She also has a strong need to prove herself. She currently is also going through her self doubt and not feeling like she's doing good arc so... yeah... insecurities. She definitely has a fear of getting judged for leading Belos to the Collector. I guess fear of getting judged for past mistakes.
