Given that this fandom has been going "Dreamling as Sleeping Beauty" recently, I will one-up this idea and suggest the following-
Dreamling in the Flemish/Dutch studio 100 musical "Doornroosje" (aka Briarrose, aka Sleeping Beauty).
For those of you who know me and my fanfics, you might be familiar with this version of the fairytale, and even for those who are not, allow me to paint you the picture-
At the birthing feast of prince Morpheus, the newborn prince is visited by three fairies, who each plan on making a wish for him. I haven't planned on who the fairies would be just yet, but fairy 1 wishes for the prince to meet his true love on his 10th birthday, and fairy 2 wishes for him to be married to his true love on his 18th birthday. Fairy 3 starts making their wish, until everyone is rather rudely interrupted by the evil fairy, who is very angry about not getting an invite. (I was thinking the evil fairy is maybe Burgess or even Lucifer? Because I have plans for Cori uwu)
Either way, the evil fairy bestows a wish upon little Morpheus, wishing that the prince will prick himself on the spindle of a spinning wheel on his 18th birthday and die, yada yada- Fairy 3 remembers they still have a wish left once the evil fairy is gone, and they wish for Morpheus to not die, but instead fall asleep with the rest of the kingdom for 100 years, and then be kissed awake by his true love.
The king and queen breathe a sigh of relief, and decide to just live their lives for now, as they can worry about this whole curse later.
So eventually, Morpheus's 10th birthday rolls around, and the king and queen have invited the royal family of Corinthian, as they have a 10-year-old child as well, so obviously, that must be Morpheus's true love, right?
Yeah, it goes over as well as you think. The other prince, Cory, is rude and obnoxious, and even kills Morpheus's pet raven Jessamy with his slingshot. While Morpheus runs away in tears with his beloved raven cradled close, the three fairies (who had been guests at this party as well) are quite shocked at the fact that fairy 1's wish didn't come true.
At this point the evil fairy also appears, mocking the trio for their obviously weak magic. So, the four of them make a bet. If the only wish come true is the evil fairy's wish, the trio will be turned into pigs. If, however, all of the trio's wishes come true instead, the evil fairy will burn up.
So we skip 8 years, coming close to Morpheus's 18th birthday. Knowing that a single spinning wheel could be the death of his son, the king orders that all spinning wheels be collected and burned before the clock strikes midnight, so the prince will be safe.
The day of the wedding arrives, and Morpheus is clearly not happy about having to marry Cory, who has grown more handsome, but also way more rude and cruel. Yet before the two of them can get to the altar, the evil fairy appears, carrying a gift for Morpheus, with the sob story of wanting to apologize for their wrongdoings.
Morpheus doesn't exactly trust this, but he opens the gift and reaches in, only to pull out a small spinning wheel and prick himself on the spindle. Almost instantly, he falls to the ground, everyone else soon following, with the evil fairy cackling at their plan well done.
100 years pass, with the fairy trio taking care of everyone in the kingdom, awaiting the day everyone wakes up. Eventually, everyone does, except for Morpheus, who the fairies have taken to his room.
Cory, confident about the fact that he's the one to kiss the prince awake, swaggers up to the room and kisses Morpheus, only for nothing to happen. The prince doesn't even seem to be breathing, looking nearly dead to the world.
Believing that they have won the whole bet, the evil fairy starts on their spell to turn the fairy trio into pigs, only for a man to rush inside, saying that he is in fact Morpheus's true love.
Turns out, back on the prince's 10th birthday, he bumped into another boy his age. A boy called Hob Gadling, the gardener's son, who consoled Morpheus and offered to bury poor Jessamy near the rose bushes for him. The two became friends as time went on, growing to be more in time, and even secretly doing somewhat of an elopement on the night of the prince's 18th birthday, tying the knot just after midnight.
With this new information, the fairy trio realizes that hey, that means two of their wishes have come true, haven't they? Hob will just have to kiss Morpheus awake now, and that'll be wish number 3 done.
Furious, the evil fairy demands that Hob proves his strength first, and summons a dragon for him to fight. The fight is long and hard, but eventually, Hob is victorious, and he limps over to Morpheus's bed, bruised and bleeding, before kissing him gently on the lips.
For a moment, nothing seems to happen, but then the prince awakes with a gasp, staring in shock at his lover. Everyone is quite overjoyed, except for the evil fairy, who now by the laws of the bet will have to burn up.
Oh, and Cory might try and to fight Hob in order to win the right to Morpheus's hand, but Hob only needs to point at the huge dragon he just killed for the blonde prince to scurry off with his tail between his legs uwu
Might write this too, or just leave it at this xD

Someone help me with something
So it was apparently announced that for the 1 hour special with UtaPri right that we are going to get Reiji ,Ringo ,Ryuya and EIICHI in the special. Alright let's put a pin in that last name because we will come back to this in a second It makes sense when I read the context of what the special is and its timeline (which I read goes "pre and post Maji Love Kingdom") so okay in that case it makes sense... HOWEVER It's very well known and documented that Broccoli is "stuck" on what to do with HEAVENS. Like if you don't know next year is effectively the 10 year anniversary of when HEAVENS debuted as a Trio in the Anime but it was 2015 when they came back as a 7 person unit. This in and of itself causes a mess we'll get to (cos I am gonna stay up to get this wrote damn it) because if you were to create fanart for the 10th Anniversary for HEAVENS...which is the officially recognized year? It should also be noted that ,of all the HEAVENS members, the one that is probably the most despised (or was) is Eiichi (in the Western fandom) and we know why...not brining that up cos trying to explain the actual story of what happened is impossible even if people watched it right in front of them...its why I have at least one episode of that mess blacklisted and refuse to ever watch it again!
That however brings me back to Eiichi Okay look... Knowing the timeframe that the special will cover it actually DOES make sense to do it...that's fine actually ,but then we have to ask this "What's next?" I think its going to be a given that QUARTET NIGHT will get one of these types of deals and if they don't I'll actually be shocked and wonder that the hell Broccoli is on seeing as how ,when it came to Season 4, they basically OWNED the Oricon that year! Like you couldn't remove them from the #1 spot without the Jaws of Life cos damn did they do work there HEAVENS was a surprise though...a rather pleasant one if I do say so While they never took the #1 spot they were consistently in the top 30 and in the top 3 for a good amount of time on their first proper crack at it! It made you wonder if they could pull a QN with their next proper Album but to date that hasn't happened nor has their longevity been matched since the "Immortal Inferno" days. You kind of wonder in the 6 years (almost) since "Legend Star" did the "Inferno" finally die out? Part of me wonders honestly Broccoli has had every opportunity to push HEAVENS and make them a relevant "Third Brand" for the series...they had it and they failed badly! Every time they seem to announce a piece of content for THEM there are like 6-7 more for the other two units...makes sense in a way trust me but its also obvious when Agematsu mentions "Haru-Chan" in his tweets that "she" is obviously very much busy with Shining and could care less about the "Other Unit". Remember what I said about HEAVENS needing their own composer? 6 years later I think I was right! The problem with even having HEAVENS being represented in the special is like no one is gonna watch to see Eiichi...fact and no one can argue that in the Int'l fandom but I get that also because its mainly for STARISH... So why have him there at all? What is the point of having Eiichi there? Really if you try to rationalize it from any kind of story perspective it doesn't make sense but then again (before the Pandemic) it makes no sense to have STARISH perform in the Tokyo Dome before the actual PEOPLE do! You almost lessen the idea now of a big concert in that building because the characters did it FIRST! So what COULD Broccoli be planning with Reiji and Eiichi both appearing in the special? I have a theory... Remember back when we were getting ready for the end of Season 4 where ,in the hallway, Eiichi and Reiji sort of faced off? I had thought that ,had they actually continued the Anime, that we would have gotten a HEAVENS/QN season and the sales of the two CDs at that time honestly told me that it SHOULD have happened! Honestly had it we would have probably seen sales that eclipsed the prior and it would have helped to really flesh out the HEAVENS characters since ,and this is something that still needs to be talked about, Dolce Vita is MIA but that is a completely different post for sure! But again help me... Help me understand the proper purpose of a HEAVENS member being included in something that has primarily Shining Agency. What would you really be doing this for short of setting up Dolce OR The inevitability of a QN/HEAVENS special The bigger issue now is that ,say we get the QN/HEAVENS thing right? What purpose will that serve other than weaken the HEAVENS brand more because we know that Broccoli has little faith in it. 7/7 is the biggest JOKE that they could ever play (and three months late to be honest) and they can't currently field a full squad because oh yeah did we mention YUUMA GOT COVID-19! I'll end this sort of the same way I started it "Someone help me understand what purpose having Eiichi be in the special serves? Seriously I would love to be excited but knowing the baggage he brings its like...how hard is this going to be to enjoy this?" If someone can then God Bless but its past 3:30 and I'm going to bed soon Have a good night friends...

Fic Writer Interview
I was tagged by @bussdowntarthiana and @forbiddenfantasies1 and possibly someone else but the last few weeks are a blur.
Name: sdwolfpup although I also go by sdw (and wen calls me sdwp which I love); I don’t use my real name in public fannish spaces for many and varied reasons
Fandoms: The fandom I’m active in now is obviously Jaime/Brienne fandom from ASOIAF books/Game of Thrones, but fandoms I’ve written for include Z Nation, due South, Hard Core Logo, Slings & Arrows, Prison Break, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Dragon Age: Inquisition. I’ve vidded in even more than those, but this is fic, so. Oh! And I wrote 10th Kingdom fanfic way back in the day.
Where you post: Archive of Our Own. I tried to transfer all of my fic on LJ to AO3 as well.
Most popular one-shot: I’m not sure how we’re counting ‘popular’ here - kudos? comments? hits? For hits, it’s The Unicorn Incident. For kudos it’s Lonely Makes A Heart Ruthless (y’all love your PWP, I’m so proud of you). For comments it’s &lit. Wild how they’re all different.
Most Popular Multi-chapter: For multi-chapter, most hits, kudos, and comments are all Heart Full of Gasoline.
Fic You Were Nervous to Post: Geeze, all of them probably at some point or another. I was really nervous about posting the first chapter of I need your sway because it was relatively early in my fandom time here (2 months) and Jaime/Brienne/Cersei and quite smutty. I’m still honestly amazed and grateful any of you read it.
How Do You Choose Your Titles?: Song lyrics 90% of the time; poems and random inspiration the other 10%. I almost always choose titles in the middle of writing the fic.
Do You Outline?: For short fics, no. I usually have an idea and just start writing. As soon as a fic gets beyond two chapters, I always outline, every single time. The length & complexity of the story dictates how complex the outline will be; Go On has an outline but it’s much less intense than Baby I Will’s, which is less pretty intensive now, but still less intense than HFoG’s.
Complete: 92 fics. The other works on my AO3 account are vids.
Do You Take Prompts?: I will do prompt memes occasionally (I have to be careful of these; they inevitably end up with at least one too-long answer that’s become a full fic and at least 2-5 new ideas for my later list). I am totally happy to receive prompts randomly, but given the nature of how my brain works, they will sit in my To Write list for a long time until the urge hits me, if it ever does. Which is to say: unless it’s a prompt for a follow-on or missing scene from one of my own fics, if you desperately want to see something written I may not be the right writer to send it to. Heh. Though you’re always welcome! Sometimes it’s fun to just spitball something quickly.
In progress: I’m actively working on Baby I Will (country singer Jaime) and my solarpunk AU for auntie-social. I’ve got 7 fics I’ve started that I will finish, and another 4 I’ve started that I’d like to finish that I’m not convinced I will. Oh god and the frigging Wiggles AU which was a funny joke but I have thought of it more frequently than a joke deserves and I know what that means.
Coming soon: My smut swap fic, once I figure out what it’s gonna be; the rest of the Solarpunk AU, more of Baby I Will, and once BIW is done, the book canon fic I have two chapters of that haunts me. (Honestly I would have written that one first if I’d known BIW was going to be the 100k+ giant that it’s become. I did NOT plan for that.)
I’m suppose to tag other people but idk who’s done this! I apologize if I’m double-tagging you. @brynnmck @agirlnamedkeith @firesign23 @kiraziwrites @naomignome @potatothecat @wildlingoftarth @ilikeblue and anyone who wants to say I tagged them!

AO3 Tag Game
Thanks for the tag @captainjimothycarter
This was a wild fucking ride, and I invite ANY and all of you to hop in my ask to discuss any and or all of this. because I’ve been writing fic since the 90′s...
1. How many works do you have on ao3? 223
2. What’s your current AO3 wordcount? 1,016,444 (Holy shit I had NO IDEA)
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? 10 Main fandoms (Captain America/MCU/Agent Carter, Once Upon a Time, CSI, Big Bang Theory, X-Men, Doctor Who, X-Files, House, Nolan-verse Batman, Stargate Sg1/Universe) with crossovers that included 9 other fandoms (Operation Endgame, Ravenous, Indiana Jones, Monster’s Inc, 10th Kingdom, The Santa Clause, Outlander, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Return to Oz)
I also have some questionable Lois and Clark the new adventures of Superman and MacGyver fic I’ve never published.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Silly Stocking Supposition (995)
The Attractive Enchantress Extension (656)
The Unexpected Evening Encounter (518)
The Descending Spiral Derivation (430)
Nobody’s Baby (406)
I don’t know why it surprises me that the top four are BBT Sheldon/Penny. The Shenny community I was a part of was AMAZING and to this day I don’t think a SINGLE day goes by where I don’t get notifications about kudos on my S/P fics.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not. I didn’t in the beginning- I came from ff.net where that wasn’t something you really did unless you DM’d the person, and I felt like it was “inflating” the number of comments. BUT i have since learned how important it is to thank people for their comments, and how much fun it can be to talk to people there, so now I reply to EVERY comment, even if it takes me a while to get there. Because I appreciate you. I really, really do.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I mean... In most of my other fandoms I was the QUEEN of angst. Especially X-Men. Like- there’s a story where Rogue commits suicide. And the one where Logan watches his children grow old and die because he can’t die. I’ve done a few for Steggy- Steve talking to Peggy’s AI, Steve replacing Peggy’s picture in his compass, Old Steve living through the snap again... My House fics are are pretty angsty... and some of my S/P ones, too. Like- there’s a lot of angst. Probably more than happy endings.
7. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written? Ha. ha ha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I mean, let’s start with the ones that make sense, shall we? Cap/Indiana jones. Totally makes sense. As does Doctor Who/Avengers, because Doctor Who can be anywhere, right?? And Outlander/Captain America sort of makes sense because of the time period and them both being in the same war.
There’s my still unpublished (shh, i know, I know) Stargate SG-1/MCU crossover... As soon as I manage a plot that’s getting posted because I LOVE IT.
Once you get to the Rocky Horror/Captain America TFA, that’s when things start to take a turn.
And then there’s the “Anyelle” from the OUAT fandom.... where we shipped all of Bobby’s character’s with all of Emilie’s characters and THAT IS HOW YOU GET CANNIBAL PORN CHILDREN.
But... but Once Upon a Time really did me in. I crossed that shit over with The Santa Clause, Monster’s Inc, The 10th Kingdom, Stargate Universe, and Return to Oz.
Seriously? If it makes even the TINIEST bit of sense, I will fucking write it.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? Yeah, but nothing horrific. Just your run of the mill stupidity.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? YES. Most of the time it’s pretty straightforward M/F. Sometimes it’s Cannibal. Sometimes it gets a little kinky.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen? YES. And it sucks. don’t do this.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before? YES. Twice. I did an X-Files series with a friend who I’ve lost track of about Mulder and Scully getting drunk off their asses and hooking up, and then I did a forever-unfinished self-insert fic in the CSI universe. Neither of these are on my AO3 because I don’t have/never got permission to post.
12. What’s your all time favorite ship? ALL OF THEM. God... I don’t pick ships because they’re cute- I pick them because the CALL to me on a basic level. Mulder and Scully were my first love, Steggy is my latest, but these pairs- UGH. They all kill me and I will happily die with them over and over again.
13. What was the first fandom you wrote for? The first fandom I wrote anything on paper for was actually X-Files. I started writing stories before I knew fic was a thing on the internet. But I’d been writing episodes of Quantum Leap in my head long before I ever wrote that first (awful and will never see the light of day) X-Files fic.
14. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? How can I answer that? Like, LITERALLY HOW CAN I ANSWER THAT? I love them all, and I am so proud of so many of them for so many different reasons!! Don’t ask me to choose amongst my babies. I can’t.
Ugh, this was crazy and so much fun.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT MY FIC I WILL TELL YOU ALL THE THINGS!

Hey! What are your favorite fantasy/fairytale books, shows and movies?
Well, that is a very broad question. So... let’s structure this and tackle it.
Phoe’s Favorite Fantasy Books!
I don’t read much, so that’s a very short list. Seeing as you’re on my blog, I assume you know I read and loved Percy Jackson and the Olympians so that. However, there are fantasy series that I love way more than that.
For one the Wicked Years by Gregory Maguire, my favorite author who I adore and worship. Takes the Wicked Witch of the West from Wizard of Oz and goes “but what if she was actually a restistance fighter trying to overthrow a corrupt government under their dictator, the Wizard?”. It’s amazing, I love it. Hardest recommend for the first two books. Been not too big on the third and fourth though, but that’s what happens when these things aren’t born out of being intended as a series but rather just... sequels... happening.
Golden classic that seems silly to even mention but I love these books - Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. I. Love. Them. I love Alice, I love the world, I love the fantasy. One of only three books that I personally allow to classify as modern fairy tales (Peter Pan and Wizard of Oz being the other two. I just... I do think that there is a difference between “fairy tale” and just general “fantasy book(s)”, but these three I do think deserve a place in the canon of fairy tale classics). Also, fun fact: my above mentioned favorite author wrote a third installment for this series for the original book’s anniversary, it’s called After Alice. (I own a signed copy. I squealed very loudly when I opened it.)
My favorite fantasy book series though is the Bartimaeus series by Jonathan Stroud. I adore these books. Yes, if taken as a singular book, the first installment of the Wicked Years, which works as a standalone too due to the series’ nature of having sequels instead of being an intended series, takes the crown, however as a whole, coherent series, including all books in the series, no fantasy franchise beats Bartimaeus for me. It is sarcastic, snarky, fun, filled with heart, totally lacking unnecessary forced romance, has a fascinating world, the writing is a great read. I love this series to bits and pieces.
Now, since you specifically said fantasy/fairytale, I’d be a fool not to mention William Joyce’s Guardians of Childhood, the book-series that Rise of the Guardians is... let’s say a sequel to? While not necessarily fairy tales in the traditional sense, having the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, Sandman and Santa as its main characters, it does go very much into fairy tale elements. It’s a really fun read, I personally think that Joyce has a delightful and enjoyable style.
So, that’d be the five book series that I’d recommend for fantasy.
Unless you meant actual literal fairy tale books - then I will have to disappoint you, unless you’re German. Because being German, my fairy tale collection is... well... German. I got this one. Mainly, I admit, for the illustrations - Tony Wolf worked on the majority of them and I love his illustrations, he was the author and illustrator of my favorite children’s book series when I was a kid. Which, talking about fantasy, fairy tales and books, I will absolutely also recommend here. Their English name is The Woodland Folk and it is very adorable and also very scaring for small children because fairies die in it. I was very traumatized as a kid but I still loved it a lot.
Phoe’s Favorite Fantasy Movies!
Now, movies are... it depends on what movies you want; live-action or animated. I do feel that those are vastly different categories that set vastly different expectations. And then there’s the overlapping between fantasy and supernatural in many such movies.
Let’s start with live-action, which is going to be a very short list because I am really not huge when it comes to movies - I barely watch any movies and if, then they are animated in 80% of the cases.
Lord of the Rings. Yes, I know, book-people would have filed that in the category above, but look... I am not a huge reader. And the movies have pretty blonde Orlando Bloom. But I do truly love these movies, I try to rewatch them regularly but consider I less see them as a trilogy and more as one 12 hour movie, it’s always quite the time-commitment.
And, with this one I am never quite sure whether to count it as a movie series or as a mini TV series, but the way they were released on TV, they were a movie series - so The 10th Kingdom, which is basically Once Upon a Time before that came out and without the Disney. It’s about the grandson of Snow White ending up in modern day New York and getting the help of a waitress and her dad to take down his evil stepmother, who is trying to take over the 9 fairy tale kingdoms. I love this series so very, very much.
Also The Librarian, which is a fun fantasy relic hunting movie series. But more on that when we get to TV shows, because the trilogy has a tie-in series.
I do realize that actually the majority of movies in my fantasy/supernatural section are... in fact... more supernatural than fantasy. So, pathetically enough, that is... kind of it.
Now, animated movies is harder because I quite literally have a list with 360 animated movies I saw and liked to various degrees of which the majority would qualify as fantasy due to the nature of most Western animated movies. So I’ll try to “best of” as narrow as possible (seeing as I once successfully managed to narrow my favorite animated movies down to 65...). So, a shorter version of that.
Now, when it comes to fairy tales and animated movies, Disney goes without saying so I’m not even going to say it because it’s very obvious, we all know the movies, seeing the tales. I love most of them, especially their princess movies, with one huge exception. So let’s only name-drop Sleeping Beauty because I adore it, and assume you’ve already seen all other Disney animated fantasy and fairy tale movies and move on from that.
I am also morally obligated to say “Barbie movies” here, because they did a ton of fairy tale adaptations too and the majority of them are fantasy - but to keep it brief, here is a link to my ultimate Barbie movie ranking for more individual recommendations from the Barbie canon and let me also only name-drop my favorite - Diamond Castle.
Don Bluth’s Thumbelina, as well as his Anastasia are two absolute must-sees when we’re talking fantasy (and fairy tale in Tumbles’ case).
DreamWorks wise I love and adore Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, The Road to El Dorado and Rise of the Guardians.
Now we’re getting into what I like to think of as “deep dive” territory because they’re not mainstream, they’re not big names. But I still love them.
Naturally have to say Swan Princess (1994) - the first three movies anyway, I ignore those 3D animated chep looking sequels. But the OG trilogy is a very perfect trilogy, I adore it so very much.
Another total classic would be The Last Unicorn (1998).
FernGully (1992) is a beautiful tale about fairies and one of my absolute favorite movies of all time.
A newer entry here would be Epic (2013), which is also about fairies and was written by William Joyce!
And, even if it may sound silly. The original Care Bears movies. The three from the 80s. I love them a lot, I think they’re great fantasy fun, who doesn’t love a Care Bear they are adorable, seriously.
Phoe’s Favorite Fantasy Shows!
And we move on to our last segment of this ask. I like a lot of TV shows, so I will try to keep this to my actual favorites.
My absolute favorite is Relic Hunter, it is and always will be my favorite TV show. Even if it’s cheesy at times and only has three seasons. I love it a lot. It’s... very much as it says on the tin; hot archeologist and her nerdy assistant search for magical relics.
If you like that genre, you have to also watch The Librarians - the tie-in sequel series to the movies. More librarians! More magic! More artifacts! More fun. I really love this and I mourn that they cancelled it.
Naturally Once Upon a Time - fairy tales and fantasy and I just love this TV show. Skip the last season though.
And all-time classic for me is the original Charmed - three witch-sisters discovering magic together. This was... the first ever show I actually... really consumed, with everything around it. I was totally obsessed with this, I love it. Which is why I won’t touch the reboot at all, because there’s “I loved this thing. Now there’s a new version of it! Fun!” but there is also “I loved this thing, as it is, there is no need to make a new one, why are you touching this?” - and this one was so very near and dear to my heart growing up that it is definitely the second category for me.
Definitely gotta mention BBC’s Merlin, even if it’s very, very, very flawed. It’s still fun, the characters are lovable. It has a scary fandom... in that it’s still alive and thriving, even so many years after the show’s end.
Also Grimm, though more supernatural than fantasy, it is a fairy tale show. In a way. It’s dumb but fun, because the Grimms were actually not just scholars, they were monster hunters and now modern day descendants of them are still out there hunting the same Big Bad Wolves (who aren’t all bad). I don’t know, I love it, despite the occasional cringe.
Now, lastly on the fantasy - Galavant. A musical comedy about a knight. Very fairy tale-y. Very hilarious and lovable. Sadly cancelled after two seasons.
There are many, many more fantasy shows I watch(ed), but those would be my favorites. Though I do have to tag on that elements such as vampires and werewolves are something I categorize as supernatural so they wouldn’t find mention here in fantasy (Grimm aside, due to the fairy tale theme).
I... hope I could provide a good recommendation or two!

A. what’s your favourite fandom to write? R. link your favourite fic of all-time. V. post the last sentence you wrote. 🙏
A. Favorite fandom to write for? At the moment it’s probably FDtD, they’ve been one of the most supporting fandoms I’ve been in when it comes to writing. I also love love love writing Castle fics. I just am rarely inspired to write for that particular show. I’ve been slowly getting into writing Community fics. Nothing published yet, but I’ve got at least a one-shot that’s pretty much done, but needs... something.
R. Link your favourite fic of all-time. Not sure I have one to be honest. I always flail around helplessly when people ask me for fic recommendations and then ask a bunch of questions to figure out what exactly they’re looking for before rambling off a list of fics I think might meet their criteria.
How about the fic I’m currently rereading instead: Beneath the Shattered Sky by MistyMountainHop ( @thestupidhelmet ). A That 70′s Show fic with a 10th Kingdom flair (10th Kingdom knowledge not needed to read it). It’s technically a sequel, but can stand alone. I’m enjoying it even more on my reread than I did the first time I read it. I’ve also been massively tempted to reread It’s Always Open Season on Princesses by Elsiesnuffin (don’t know their tumblr), a Community fic set shortly after season two, where Annie takes a trip to Italy and Jeff does everything he can to not to deal with it in a healthy way.
V. Post the last sentence you wrote: “I’d been blessed with true love once already. You can imagine my surprise when I realized it had happened again.” It’s from an unpublished Richie/Kisa and SethKate fic that I’m playing around with. Pretty sure I’m going to post it at some point, but I’d really like to have A Lesson in Navigation complete first.
Thanks!! I love these!

Christmas writing challenge
🎄 ️🌟 It’s the most wonderful time of the year 🌟❄️ 🎄
Tumblr media

Note
No one has to like Daenerys, (I do for the record), but how in the world can someone say with a straight face that she is a fascist??? Way to throw around a term with zero understanding. Also, why is she being bashed for wanting the kingdoms, yet other characters are being praised or encouraged to break off and form their own kingdoms?
I think that a lot of people have a kind of warped understanding of what the Seven Kingdoms really mean, and see the entire Targaryen dynasty as some sort of negative allegory for the worst aspects of an absolute monarchy. But that simply isn’t the case.
Aegon I’s conquest was, indeed, a violent one. And the following Dornish wars and wars with the Iron Islands were bloody. Despite that, Aegon himself was not in his time widely viewed as some sort of bloody tyrant or dictator, and there was some reasoning to his goal of uniting Westeros that goes beyond a simple, selfish desire for power.
Aegon was actually approached first by the Storm King Argilac Durrandon. He proposed an alliance based on a marriage between Aegon and Durrandon’s daughter, Argella. A huge piece of land from around the Trident to Blackwater Rush would be given to Aegon as Argella’s dowry. Argilac was not actually the lord of this land in the first place, but he made the offer in the interest of creating a manned border between his own lands and Harren Hoare’s–essentially trying to buy a shield in the form of the Targaryens.
However, Aegon was faithful to his two sister-wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, and responded that he had no desire for a third wife. Instead, he offered his friend, Orys Baratheon, as an alternative for the alliance. But it was rumored that Orys was Aegon’s bastard half-brother, so Argilac was angry and took the offer as a personal slight. He responded by chopping off the hands of Aegon’s envoy and delivering them to Dragonstone. How barbaric!
The painted table at Dragonstone did not yet include strict borders between the Seven Kingdoms but Aegon knew that they were un-united and–based on encounters like this one with Argilac–ungoverned. He called together his council, and after many days of deliberation they settled on the conquest of Westeros.
So Aegon was born on Dragonstone and only came to the decision to conquer the rest of Westeros after provocation and discussion.
His actual reign, as stated above, had its problems; but there were also many years of peace. He established his capitol at King’s Landing, and at that time it was so peaceful that for awhile there were not even walls around it. He wasn’t worried about being attacked.
Every year as king, Aegon made a progress around Westeros observing his country and making sure that everything was proceeding peacefully and efficiently. For him to personally oversee his kingdom this way is, as you probably know, a much more engaged and accountable ruling style than we’ve seen from kings like Robert Baratheon.
Aegon was also careful to respect the Faith of the Seven and was crowned by a septon.
All in all, I think there is a very exaggerated view of Aegon’s conquest and subsequent rule in the fandom that contributes to a lot of anti-Dany discourse. But, again, in reality his conquest and rule were not so bad.
I personally think it is meant to parallel the real-world Norman conquest that solidified the union of the warring Anglo Saxon, Celtic, and Viking people in Britain in the 10th century. Sometime in the early 900s AD, Alfred the Great established an infrastructure and influence throughout the warring kingdoms that lead to unification under his grandson, Eadred in 955 AD. So when William the Conqueror landed in 1066 the groundwork was already in place for him to rule, and while conquest in still conquest, this unification (even under a monarch instead of a democracy) was still a good thing in the interest of peace and shared resources. Because after the fall of the Roman Empire there, there was a lack of order and a series of violent conflicts that ended with unification.
So, similarly, Aegon’s Conquest can be viewed positively for its unification of the warring and sometimes lawless state of Westeros prior to his reign.
After Aegon’s death, of course, not all ensuing rulers were good. In particular Maegor the Cruel comes to mind as a failure. But there were also good kings, most notably Jaehaerys I, also called “the Wise” and well-loved by his people. Taken from AWOIAF Wiki:
“Jaehaerys was the longest-ruling Targaryen monarch, having ruled for fifty-five years. Because of this, he is referred to as the ‘Old King.’ His reign is remembered as the most prosperous period in the history of the Targaryen monarchy. His reign brought peace, stability, and justice to the Seven Kingdoms. Jaehaerys is possibly the best king that Westeros ever saw, and is regarded as such by many historians and laymen.”
So I don’t think that there is much basis for these arguments in the fandom for the independence of various kingdoms, or that the Targaryens were universally horrible or exploitative tyrants. On the contrary, having a unified kingdom has been a good thing when done right.
So, how can it be done right?
Well, I think that Dany represents that in her eagerness to “Break the Wheel,” and her willingness to allow individual kingdoms conditional independence.
We know that Dany was willing to let Yara Greyjoy rule the Iron Islands as its queen, and that Dany told Tyrion that other kingdoms could have their independence, too, so long as they “asked” like Yara did. The implication is that so long as these kingdoms agree to abide by Dany’s laws (no more “raping and reaving,” no slavery, etc) and to be her ally in any potential conflicts, they can be independent for all intents and purposes. But there is still a loose union happening, which is good. This allows the kingdoms autonomy while still sharing resources and protection with one another.
If the North were to break away from the Seven Kingdoms as an independent kingdom, yes–they would be alright for awhile. They have the most land and the most people of any of the individual kingdoms. But in Winter, I have to wonder how well they could get along with no alliances. We know that The Reach produces most of the food. Presumably there are Winter crops to sustain the North, but is that really enough for the Northern population? Or, considering that the Northern population took a hit in the War of the Five Kings, is there enough manpower to farm enough crops to feed the entire kingdom through a whole Winter? And what about issues like the White Walkers? The Northerners absolutely cannot face that threat without the help of others. So I think it’s clear that independence is not all it’s cracked up to be by some arguments I’ve seen here.
So, back to Dany. I do think that there have been points in Dany’s arc where her motives could be viewed as questionable to the audience (speaking mostly about show!Dany here). But we can see that has all been resolved now. Dany was tempted by extreme violence and the possibility of attacking and taking King’s Landing by force. We were told more than once in season 7 that Dany could have easily succeeded in doing this. Instead, she chose a better way. Additionally, while Dany started the season adamant on obtaining fealty from Jon with the assurance of keeping the North under her rule in the future, she ended the season with only the will to “save” the Northerners, only the will to fight alongside Jon as an ally, not to dominate the North or strip Jon of his power.
She explicitly stated in her small council meeting back at Dragonstone in 7.07 that she was not going to conquer the North, she was going to save it. I think this is setting things up for Dany to allow Sansa to rule the North as Queen in the North, just like Yara wanted to do with the Iron Islands, down the line.
So this places Dany as a happy medium between the disorganized chaos of several independent nations vying for power over one another, and the stricter rule of Aegon I.
Again, we can turn to historical precedence to confirm this. Dany sails to Westeros from Essos, an exiled royal seeking to take back the throne she feels is her birthright. In the process of doing so, she has helped to halt hostilities between two long-warring families: the Starks and the Lannisters.
We know that the Starks and the Lannisters represent the Yorks and the Lancasters from the Wars of the Roses in British history and that those wars were ended when Henry Tudor (a royal with a claim to the English throne) traveled to England and married Elizabeth of York, establishing the Tudor dynasty.
So Dany can be seen as a representation of Henry who will marry a Stark/York (Jon), unifying warring houses (the Targaryens, Starks, and Lannisters) and establishing a lasting dynasty.
The Tudor dynasty was by no means perfect and peaceful. But under Henry Tudor’s son, Henry VIII, the Laws in Wales Act was passed in 1535 that began the process of establishing what is now the United Kingdom.
For all these reasons, we can conclude that Dany is not a fascist but actually a unifying ruler who will represent a positive shift for Westeros. She has Essos under her power as well, where she abolished slavery and established a tenuous peace. If she is able to rally the whole of Westeros under her banners, there will be something close to world peace on Planetos. Additionally, we know that she will allow autonomous rulers in individual kingdoms, and respect kingdom borders, so long as they abide by her reasonable rules. In doing this, she will be creating a sort of United Kingdom of her own. And all of that will be made possible with a Stark alliance, thereby bolstering the political value of Jonerys as a ship, too.
Anyway, the antis have been saying this sort of stuff about Dany for years now, always insisting that with the next book or season, she’s going to become some evil tyrant and commit some genocide. But she never does, and she never will. We’ve got precedent and context to prove that. (And all of this without even scratching the surface of Dany’s character/behavior and interest in equality and personal freedom.)

Get Back Up
Let me begin by reiterating that you never listen to us. You want to play out a stupid narrative that long outlived any significance or utility. Disney, I’m sure you figured out exactly what happened by now and I wonder if it stings a bit?
Always keep the patterns of her activities and behaviour at the forefront of any dealings with Sophie. Always remember the narc’s playbook. Nothing I am about to elucidate below is going to deviate from that.
Trying to implicate Ben in poor Misty Upham’s rape and murder is exactly what the bloody narcissist would do. That blind was posted by Sophie and not some random insider. The only person who has anything to gain from that level of ruin is a Potemkin Narcissist. There is no argument here that it could be anybody else. A narc will never let go. Sophie will never let go. It requires something more significant to bring this to a complete end.
All was quiet in December. It looked like things were finally coming to an end.
Ben posted a blind about announcing a separation or a split after the holidays.
He spent NYE with friends in Norway, away from the fake family and far away and Sophie nowhere in sight.
Melrose trailers started pouring out.
The Golden Globes happened, marking a most important matter on a big stage. (The narc is nervous. She needs to throw a volley at her target or else she’ll combust. Why would the narc combust when she can burn the other. This is not snark. This is the principle. This is how that mind works.)
On 4th Jan the gold digger blind was posted.
On 10th Jan comes a baffling blind with the wordings of a certain ‘foreign born A list mostly movie actor’ that is usually used for Benedict.
There’s your doubt. She allowed that to fester. It was given just enough time to make its way.
On 15th Jan Ben was launched as the brand ambassador for JLC at SIHH in Geneva, and the same evening was clearly accompanied with Sophie.
The backlash did not end. Not even after he was announced to be the next President of LAMDA following outgoing Timothy West. It tainted Ben.
Here’s the thing. This is all part of the narc’s playbook. She sowed serious doubt in a time when few can be trusted. And she got away with it. She showed up at Geneva in her typical shapeless flowy gown setting the stage for a third pregnancy.
Are the patterns clear now? Nothing has changed.
She will not stop until she ruins him.
So now let’s truly examine what her role has really been here. Benedict has no track record of misbehaviour of any sort. And certainly not with women or the disenfranchised. There is no way he could have known what had sadly befallen Misty. Swinestein had his own traps laid out and our Potemkin rose was his project leader. Given Potemkin’s reputation for the circles she runs in, the illicit, illegal and deplorable activities she favours, the only person who would actually have known what had happened to Misty, would have been the one who is closely working with Swinestein. Ben would have been coyly informed, not to appraise him of any part of the truth, but purely to intimidate him and make him helpless. We then got the engagement in November. This fits Swinestein’s playbook too.
We steadily noticed how isolated he became. And how much of that was self imposed. A lot of input followed that he was protecting people. Loved ones no doubt. Putting all those pieces together brings it all into sharper perspective.
The Potemkin one just did her best to overturn his position as a victim. There are many, many who have suffered in Hollywood. In so many different ways. The spotlight is on the unbearable tragedies of so many women. It does not discount what has happened to the others or the men, and it’s thanks to the wider public with more experience and understanding to offer as a buttress of safeguard. We have compiled archives chronicling Ben’s suffering over the last 3 unending years. And we will happily continue reblogging it to kingdom come.
I am not pointing fingers. I have studied it deeply and I understand why so many couldn’t speak up. But let me ask a more poignant question. If our Potemkin Rose is as virtuous as she stubbornly (and stupidly) insists, why did she never speak up?
Well, why would she. That’s not where her roots are.
Don’t mess with the Sherlock fandom. Not everybody is going to buy your bullshit.
All of you, get back up and fight. Disney, and the rest of you. You all got a nice, nasty little surprise this week, now stop dragging your feet and end this. There is a time to plan, and there is a time to fight. Sometimes, you have to keep that fight behind closed doors, and then there’s a time when you have to break out and fight. You are on the brink of not having any option left. So now, fight. If you draw it out stupidly insisting on a narrative(no better than our Potemkin in stubbornness and remarkable stupidity) you will give her and her crew more time to come up with something new. Just as you did once again.
End it.

Warning: Bullshit Overload Ahead
As I've said, the haters aren't mentaly ill, they just suffer from a massive entitlement issues. And @teacupdragon just proved that, in about 5000 words. If you can manage to read this to the end, you're better than me

Soooo Broccoli
Apparently the boys over at Brocc decided it was a good idea yesterday to drop some big news on us and then ,like they are apt to do, walk out of the room and leave us a speculation NIGHTMARE Fortunately for y’all...I’m here so we are going to go over the items that Broccoli mentioned and things are going to be interest going into the next DECADE and there is a phrase we need to learn the meaning of So in the immortal words of QUARTET NIGHT at the beginning of “The Dice are Cast” READY... SET... GO!!
10th Anniversary focus So according to a translation I have from a tweet here they said they will be focusing on the TENTH Anniversary which is next year.  I don’t THINK they are gonna leave us hanging on the 9th because that would be pretty bunk but the big anniversary is 10 years so they are going to want to put a focus on that.  If we don’t get A LOT of big time announcements this year I don’t think we need to be too upset (Like I was last year when it was all music related) but what will they announce for this Anni? WELL New Mystery game and console decision So its been announced that they have a new game coming out which...is interesting and its even MORE interesting because the console/device has not been decided. To sort of understand this we have to go back almost THREE YEARS to when Broccoli announced “Dolce Vita”.  This is important because remember at the time when they announced the game on the SIXTH Anniversary the characters that would be in the game are the Senseis ,Shining and then QN and STARISH respectively right? Well when 7th Anniversary happens it gets announced that they were making an update to the cast and that update would BE...Raging Otori and the 7 “Renegade Princes” from HEAVENS so there was THAT announcement.  Remember though that this was in 2017.  For two years there was no update or even a screenshot for the game and I want to say when we got close to 2018 it would be announced that the VITA was stopping production in Japan.  THIS is a big deal because of the fact that the game was to be on that system AND there was supposed to be a “port project” where all the games UP TO DOLCE were supposed to be released in sequential order starting with Repeat and ending with After Secret. SPOILER:  That project got abandoned Well...there was a good reason...kind of We have to remember that around August in 2017 Japan was starting to get Shining Live.  That game would end up coming out IN ENGLISH in 2018 in January.  I remember that because it was around then that I had to get my current computer when it completely crapped the bed on me which sucks but what can you do right?  Now this still led us to a situation because in 2018 we still didn’t get any update on Dolce right? WELL... 8th Anniversary becomes a thing and when it happened it was focused solely on the music (which DOES kind of make sense since the series’ literal translation is “Prince of Song”) but we hadn’t heard much about Dolce and at this point we are at 1 year since the HEAVENS announcement and 2 years since the game was announced AT ALL...what was going on? To be honest I don’t know but if I had to completely speculate what happened with the game it was a # of things and one was writing and recording HEAVENS’ parts (not sure about routes) for the game.  Well during the time they were doing this Sony announced stopping the VITA and the game card production outright. Because of THIS I think this caused them to pivot and they started to figure out if they were going to take the project and move it to a console or just outright scrap it!  I THINK when we get to 9th Anniversary we might learn the fate of Dolce and I think it has to do with this new game.  If I HAD to hazard a guess the console it was going to be on...THAT’S TRICKY! See the PS4 is on its way out (or at least games will slow production probably for 2020) so the idea would be to put it on the PS5 when that releases BUT they also could drop the game on the switch and make the game the first that I think would be on a Nintendo system (NOTE:  There WAS a theme for the 3DS but no actual games were made for a Nintendo console I don’t think) so we have to think about that.  I think it would do Broccoli well to put the game on the PS4/5 AND the Switch because UtaPri has been a staple in the Sony library in Japan so if it just up and left then I don’t know how fans in Japan would feel.  It would also be an interesting situation for HEAVENS fans because ,if we assume that this game will have them in it, then how many fans will get it for the switch beit domestically OR Internationally (NOTE:  The Switch is NOT Region Locked so importing is easy to do) so that is something to look at.  There are a lot of questions to deal with JUST on this subject and its why it took a bigger bulk of this post because of ambiguity but I am going to guess we will learn more at 9th Anniversary and I think it WILL RELEASE before the 10th Anni! Now another interesting part of the notes is that they are going to be focusing on Seiyuus and Lives...not sure what that means yet but we will find out in time This next part is SUPER IMPORTANT After the 10th Anniversary they will focus on making UtaPri “Everlasting Contents” Alright...I THINK I need to explain something I forgot to at the beginning here So when this tweet came out that someone was kind enough to translate EVERYTHING I am mentioning here was going UP TO 2022 so that’s a little over 3 years or so from now right?  Things have started to get more interesting here! So NOW the question becomes this “What will the plan be as far as an Anime goes?” If I am 100% honest...I don’t know...I know what my plan would be for 2021 and 2022 if they wanted to put one final bow on the Anime and wrap it up with one more 2 season arc but MY IDEA would be drastically different probably than that of the fandom...but I’ll share it in the future. You know what’s crazy about all of this as far as the timing of the news goes? THIS It had recently been announced that ,at the showing for “Maji Love Kingdom” (Or I guess more appropriately now called “Maji Love LIVE Kingdom” if you saw the second PV) they will have the cast there for a special talk...usually when something like that is gonna happen some stuff is gonna go down and IT MAKES ME WONDER if there isn’t something behind this...could we get a 5TH SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT or could it just be for a social thing?  If there is one thing I have learned about Broccoli’s methods in the years I have watched what they do with April Fools and so forth I wouldn’t put it past them to do that...it should ALSO be noted that at this time (and for the past 3 years) the 4th season website is still up!  There is a part of me that STILL BELIEVES if they were done with the Anime Project they would have outright taken down the website and used the official site to redirect to the movie...that hasn’t happened yet! Now someone will say (and I can see this in a reblog ,reply or message already) that “Doing a 5th season AFTER doing the Tokyo Dome in MLKingdom doesn’t make sense from a story perspective” and I hear that...but not quite right! IF we are to assume that I’m right and they do one more two season arc what could they do? WELL I’ve been told there is a place BIGGER than the Tokyo Dome called “Nissan Stadium” and so they could do THAT but if they did THAT then the idea would be “Well next for them would be a world tour” and then you run into the idea of “Do we do ANOTHER TWO SEASON ARC (although that might be 3) or do we finally put the Anime to bed?”  Remember the current plan is for AT LEAST 2022 but they ALSO want to create “everlasting content” too right? I have wondered this Since the “STARISH Solo Series” was announced was that Broccoli’s way of “closing the book” on that group?  If it WAS (and I don’t think it was objectively speaking) then you could do a two season arc with HEAVENS and QN and the STARISH boys could make cameos?  Hell I think I proposed an idea once where Otoya took over the school from Shining and then QN would become HEAVENS’ mentors but that part requires HEAVENS to break off from Raging and I don’t know if that would happen considering that the universe is currently built to have two different Agencies so...there IS that! Here is another interesting tidbit that might interest you I once looked up the largest stadiums in the world and like EIGHT OUT OF TEN OF THEM ARE IN THE US!  YES KIDS IF YOU WANTED TO DO THE BIGGEST STADIUMS A BUNCH ARE HERE?! Gets better too because like a bunch of them were College Stadiums...ponder that! (Although real talk:  I wouldn’t mind seeing UtaPri in America for an episode...THAT’D BE COOL!) So now we have to ask this question at the end of ALL OF THIS “Alright Joshua...WHAT do you make of all of this?!” Here’s my answer Broccoli has like ZERO intention of killing off the series!  I know the plan is up to 2022 but I have a feeling in the next 3 years they are going to really work on building it up even more and making the Lives that they do reach farther beyond the boundaries of Japan.  I think that was their plan from the start when they announced “Expanding the world of UtaPri” and they knew that was going to take some work.  They are just revving up the engines and stopping it cold NOW would make a lot of people upset as far as fans IN JAPAN and OUTSIDE of the country.  Broccoli HAS to know that their properties are getting popular outside because it wasn’t that long ago that they took off the lock for their YT channel in the US!  I think they are starting to see the value in expanding to the west and they are now looking at what to do to keep the “Foreign Market” interested. I will also say this DON’T be surprised if the next game gets some kind of localization with how SL has done outside of Japan.  Okay its about 100K people that downloaded the game in the US but that might have given Brocc some pause and go “Wait a second...maybe we got something here” And who knows...MAYBE they have a plan to get the game over here!  We probably WON’T KNOW until maybe a little past 9th Anniversary but I’ve been surprised before Alright alright one more thing With Idolish7′s second season looming in the distance and with I-Chu getting an Anime Adaptation soon I could see that as a big reason that Broccoli DOESN’T want to kill off the Anime Project yet.  They know their stronghold that they have and giving up the spot of “King of the Idol Anime” is NOT something you do without a fight and by God they have a plan to do it and now we are going to be in for one of the craziest 3 year periods (and beyond) in the history of a genre that I stepped into back in 2014 and now here we are in 2019 and its looking like a good fight kids...I’m just happy to have a front row seat! NOW...Imma ask you guys and gals Based on the announcements we got from Broccoli now what directions do you think UtaPri could go into and where do you WANT to see it go?  I got a lot of ideas in my dome for sure but the question is...what say you Oh and I almost forgot to link the tweet that was the source of all of this so do be a friend and check out the tweet...here’s the link https://twitter.com/ohayaho_news/status/1117801981517627392 take care lads and lasses

Pokemon X and Y vs Sword and Shield
I feel like “Pokemon Sword and Shield” doesn’t deserve the backlash it gets from the fandom, and I feel that the fandom praise “Pokemon X and Y” too much.
The music: Compare the Gym Leader theme from  “Pokemon X and Y” to the GL Theme from “Pokemon Sword and Shield”; the latter sounds far more epic and fits the overall theme of the game; the former sounds more like a “Electronic soundtrack”. Outside the Gyms, “Pokemon X and Y” only has three themes I love (Route 15, Pokemon League and Ambrette Town). The themes from “Pokemon Sword and Shield” I truly love are: Slumbering Weald, Wedgehurst, Motostoke, Route 3, Hulbury, Wild Area North, Bede’s Theme, Marnie’s Theme, Hop’s Theme, Hammerlocke, Circhester, Eternatus 3, Piers’ Theme, Spikemuth, Route 10, Wyndon and Battle Tower (Seriously, “Sword and Shield” has some of the best themes in any Pokemon game) Score: 1 to “Sword and Shield”
The Rivals: I admit, I prefer the “Sword and Shield” rivals over  the “X and Y” friends group. On paper, the “Friend Group” concept does sound interesting: Competitive Rival, Contest Rival, Pokedex Rival and Rival who just wants to do her own thing. Sadly, they were executed poorly (Calem/Serena remains stagnant after the Post-game, Tierno is wasted potential in a game without “side activities” such as Contests/Musicals and Trevor just stays at Geosenge Town and asks the same questions every time. The only character that shows potential is Shauna.) In “Sword and Shield”, Hop, Bede and Marnie all have character and story (Hop starts off with a goal; to beat his older brother. A loss to Bede becomes a deep cut for him. Despite all this he is still determined to defeat his brother; only in the Knock-Out round of the Champions’ Cup does he realise that he won’t be able to achieve his goal, and only in the Post-Game does Hop finally discover a new goal; to be a Pokemon Professor. His and your story paralells Sonia and Leon respectively; Sonia became depressed after she lost to Leon until Professor Magnolia gives her a task; to research what really went on during “The Darkest Day” 3000 years earlier. Bede starts off arrogant as he was Sponsored by the top guy of the region, until he is removed from the Gym Challenge for vandalising a mural; the vandalism reveals an ancient statue of two people and two Pokemon, which led to Sonia to think about “which version of The Darkest Day is true? The one recorded in the History books or the one that is rarely talked about”. He gets put under “Fairy Type Boot Camp” and only appears in the “Gym Leaders” Tournament of the Champions Cup. Under Opal’s Boot Camp, Bede is no longer arrogant and starts becoming a lot nicer, even saying in the Champions Cup rematches that “He enjoys battling you”. Marnie is a Trainer who just wants to put her hometown on the map, and the only way she can do this is by being the Champion. She is a lot kinder and doesn’t take any nonsense from Team Yell. She doesn’t achieve her goal, however, and ends up succeeding Piers as a Gym Leader.) Hop, Bede and Marnie are far more fleshed out than the “X and Y” Rivals, and even though they never achieve their goals they end up becoming natural successors to their predecessors. Total: 2 to “Sword and Shield”
The Legendaries: Xerneas and Yvetal doesn’t really play a role in “X and Y” apart from being used as a  battery for an “Ultimate Weapon”. The Legendaries in “Sword and Shield”, Zacian and Zazamenta, appear as ??? early in the game. When you and Hop tell Leon and Sonia about the “Mysterious Pokemon” in the Slumbering Weald Sonia is intrigued, and she decides to research what the two Pokemon are. Only towards the end of the game do they actually appear to help you and Hop in fighting Eternatus (another paralell to the “Darkest Day” 3000 years earlier, confirming Sonia’s theory that “Two heroes and two Pokemon” stopped the Darkest Day and not one hero as the History books recorded). The scene after you capture Eternatus has them leaping into the sky and returning back to Slumbering Weald. In the Post-Game, the Legendaries trust you and Hop and they allow you and Hop to catch them. Zacian and Zazamenta, by the events of “Sword and Shield” are mysterious, and that is because they have been sleeping for 3000 years, so gradually, over time, their role in the “Darkest Day” eventually got covered up in history. The pair sleeping is justified, as they were badly injured in the original “Darkest Day”. It also makes sense meta-wise, as Shield’s Pokedex entry for Zacian states “Some believe Zacian is Zazamenta’s elder sister, other says the two are rivals”. In Arthurian Myth, depending on version, Morgana is said to be either Arthur’s sister or rival. There is also a reference to Roman mythology in the designs: The twin brothers Romulus and Remus were said to be the sons of Mars, the war god. The ruler of the land ordered the twin boys to be abandoned on a hill. The boys were found by a wolf, who raised them as her own, eventually the boys grew up and founded a city; however, they got into a quarrel with each other and Romulus killed his twin brother. The wolf element in the designs is inspired by the female wolf in the story. There is a Greek myth about twins Castor and Pollux: one of the twins was immortal, the other wasn’t. When the mortal twin died in a battle, the immortal twin begged Zeus to join his brother; Zeus decided to place the twins in the sky as the Constellation Gemini. A similar story is said to have happened in 5th-Century Kent, when the warriors Hengist and Horsa fought in a fierce battle against a rival tribe; in the battle, Horsa is killed, and after the battle Hengist retrieved his brother’s corpse and buried it in nearby woodlands. He marked the grave with a white stone, which later became known as “White Horse Stone” after the brothers’ personal banner. Soon after this battle, Hengist was named as king of the new kingdom. One version of this story states the two were twins, while another version states that Hengist was the older brother. A final inspiration for the Legendaries is found in Norse Mythology; after Baldur is killed, Raganork starts and a pair of wolves break out to chase the sun and moon (In Norse Mythology, the sun is female while the moon is male) before catching and killing them; Fenir, another wolf from Norse Mythology, also breaks out and kills Odin. Even History tells us of sibling warriors (Edward and Aethelflaed, a brother and sister who helped unite the seven kingdoms in the 10th Century following the Viking Raids. The Eleventh Century had famous sibling warriors: Norwegian rulers Olav and Harald, earls Edwin and Morcar (yes, really), Tostig (yes, seriously, the 11th Century had some unique names), Harold, Gyrth and Leofwine, Danish warriors Beorn and Sweyn and then there’s Normans Odo and William. The 15th Century had king Edward IV and his brother Richard, and two centuries later the future kings Charles II and James II even found themselves on a battlefield when they were 15 and 12 respectively. But sibling warriors wasn’t just restricted to Europe; Vietnamese history states that there were two sisters who fought in battle.) Zacian’s and Zazamenta’s designs are inspired by Arthurian Mythology (Zacian and Zazamenta sleeping for millennia), Roman and Norse Mythology (Wolves), Greek Mythology and History (Twin warriors or sibling warriors). Eternatus is based on Thanatos of Greek Mythology, who is the personification of Death (In Greek Mythology Thanatos is a Primodorial God that emerged from Chaos). Eternatus’ design is inspired by the Xenomorph (The film “Alien” was filmed in the UK, and there are many legends of “mysterious objects” appearing in front of monks in history; one of the famous legends from the UK is “The Green Children of Woolpit”. Many people today believe the story is an early example of a story about aliens; the girl and her brother came from a “far-off land”, described with green skin, appeared in a flash of light, wore strange clothing, only ate one type of food (beans), strange behaviour and the girl, in the story, eventually lost her green colour and settled amongst humans; the boy became ill and died. This ties into Eternatus’ otherworldly origins). Eternatus’ design is inspired by Thanatos (Primodorial being), Xenomorph (Design wise) and the legend of “The Green Children” (Unknown characters with an extraterristial origin). Calyrex, a Legendary Pokemon due to be introduced in the Crown Tundre DLC, is inspired by a deer. The White Stag appears in Celtic and Arthurian myths and was later on adopted by King Richard II as his personal symbol (Ancient and Medieval kings had personal emblems that was used as their standard in battle). As well as that, but it is also based on a Wolpertinger, a cryptid from German Mythology. When the Roman Empire fell, the Romans abandoned Britannia and invited a tribe from Saxony, in what is now Germany, over to fight the northern tribes (Germany was once a part of the Roman Empire). Eventually, the Saxon tribe took over, forming into various kingdoms (Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia, Kent, Essex, Sussex and Wessex). During this era the kings of each kingdom battled over dominance of the country (Bretwalda was the title that was given to the kings that managed to achieve this; there was seven kings named by Bede as “Bretwalda”, however in total there were sixteen kings that had the title between the 5th and 10th Centuries. The only Kingdom that never had a Bretwalda was Essex). At the same time Christianity was expanding over Europe, and in the year 597 pope Gregory sent a priest, Augustine, to the Kingdom of Kent. The Kingdom was ruled by a man named Ethelbert, who was pagan but his wife, Bertha, was a Christian. Augustine arrived at the court and eventually converted Ethelbert and his court to Christianity; Augustine established an abbey in today’s Canterbury and eventually converted the Kingdom of Kent. Two of Ethelbert’s daughters married the princes of East Anglia and Northumbria and the two kingdoms eventually converted to Christianity (In this era, East Anglia was ruled by Saebert, whose brother Seaxa is known as “The Aldi Prince” after the discovery of his grave outside an Aldi supermarket in Prittlewell made headlines, and Raedwald, the king who is believed to have been buried in a ship burial at the now famous Sutton Hoo site. Northumbria was ruled by Edwin, Osmund and Oswin). Northumbria, with it’s Christian kings, would be at war with Mercia in this time, a war that only ended when Penda, the Mercian king and a pagan, was killed in battle. A century later, the three dominant Kingdoms were Mercia, Wessex and Northumbria (Kent and Sussex had lost their power) and the Venerable Bede started to write about the seven kingdoms and the Bretwalda. Later that century, the Viking raids started. By the 9th Century there was four powerful kingdoms that was dominating the country (East Anglia, Mercia, Wessex and Northumbria). In the late 9th Century, the Vikings launched the “Great Heathen Army” to conquer the remaining kingdoms. The first of the kingdoms to fall was Northumbria, which at the time, was in a civil war between Osbert and Aella. In a battle, Osbert was killed and Aella was captured before he was tortured and killed by the “Blood Eagle”. The Vikings then procceded to conquer East Anglia, which was ruled by Edmund. Edmund was captured, tied to a tree, then shot at by arrows before being decapitated. His men tried to find his head, but a week after that they found the head with a starving wolf. The head was intact, and the men decided to carry their king’s head to where the body laid. As they returned the head the two was reunited as the wolf vanished; the city of Bury St. Edmunds is named after the king. Eventually, the last of the kingdoms left was Wessex, which by then was ruled by the last son of Aethelwulf, named Alfred. He would go down in history as “Alfred The Great”. So anyway, Alfred managed to fightback against the “Great Heathen Army” and in the Battle of Edington,he managed to beat them. A peace treaty between him and the Vikings was done, and gradually he decided to encourage learning amongst the population, and started the foundations of unifying the country; his son Edward “The Elder” and grandson Aethelstan “The Glorious” achieved this, with Aethelstan being called “King of England”. What does all this have to do with Calyrex? Calyrex is described as a “King that ruled all of Galar in the past”. I think Calyrex plays the role of a Bretwalda in the Crown Tundra, a role it played prior to “The Darkest Day”. So Calyrex’s design is based on the White Stag (Celtic Mythology and Arthurian Legend, also historical), Wolpertinger (German Mythology, reflecting Saxon mythology after the fall of Rome) and Bretwalda (The Seven Kingdoms era). Kubfu is based on a bear cub, while Ushifu is based on a bear. The two unknown Regi may be based on “Dark Ages” and possibly “The Industrial Age” (”The Dark Ages” occurred between the 6th and 11th Centuries; most of our knowledge about those five Centuries came from Britain from the writings of Bede and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the latter recording events and people by year and kept by monks until the year 1154; the very last event that was recorded in the ASC was the death of King Stephen. The “Industrial Revolution” got it’s start in the UK in the late 18th Century and was driven by a growing population). Zarude is based on the Shug Monkey, a cryptid from Cambridgeshire folklore. In comparison, Xerneas and Yvetal doesn’t have much to fall back on, Zygarde is wasted potential and the Mythicals doesn’t have much lore. Total: 3 to Galar (Creative Legendaries in respect to the history, mythology and folklore).
The Region: Kalos is beautiful, but that’s as far as it goes. The choice of picking France as the first 3D region sounds good on paper and at the time, but looking back at “X and Y” in 2020, Kalos’ beauty pales in comparison to Alola and Galar. Some things seem copy-pasted (Santalune Forest is a carbon copy of Viridian Forest while Unknown Dungeon is a copy-paste of Celadon Cave). Galar, on the other hand, has a diverse varieties of landscapes (Glimwood Tangle and Balloonlea is hands down the most gorgeous locations in any Pokemon game.) The cities and towns are places you would love to live in or visit (Postwick is your typical village, Wedgehurst is a small town in the middle of nowhere, Motostoke is a bustling industrial city, Turffield is a farming town, Hulbury is a port town, Hammerlocke is a city that is proud of its’ history as a former capital, Stow-On-Side is a town in the mountains, Balloonlea is a town with a fantasy theme, Circhester is a spa town while Spikemuth is a town whose best days are behind it and Wyndon is a modern city.) Kalos feels more like a “Tourist’s Guide to Poke-France” while Galar feels like home. Total: 4 to Galar
Customisation: Kalos introduced customization, however, in comparison to Sun/Moon/UltraSun/UltraMoon and Sword/Shield, customization in Kalos changed daily or had certain restrictions (Looking at you Lumoise City Boutique). In Sun/Moon/UltraSun/UltraMoon/Sword and Shield you can access the boutiques when you visit a new town and are mainly found in towns and large cities (Wedgehurst, Motostoke, Hammerlocke, Circhester and Wyndon all have boutiques; Wedgehurst having a boutique makes sense as it’s based on a small town in the UK which can have a local boutique especially since the nearest large town could be twenty miles away. Motostoke, Hammerlocke and Wyndon are major cities while Circhester is a popular tourist destination. Circhester’s inspiration, Bath, has boutiques which the country’s elite would go shopping while on “Rest and Relaxation”.) Alola has boutiques due to it’s relaxed and tropical atmosphere, and Hawaii is known for it’s peaceful atmosphere. The clothing choices for both Alola and Galar reflects their real-life basis; most people associate Hawaii with flowers, while casual is a popular fashion choice in the UK. Another thing about Alola and Galar clothing vs Kalos is while Kalos is restricted to a limited amount of colours, Alola and Galar have variety on their colour choices (Sun and UltraSun had Red, Pink, Orange, Yellow and Beige while Moon and UltraMoon had Green, Blue, Navy, Purple and Grey. Both versions had black and white. In Sword and Shield, you can purchase all these colours without being restricted to a specific version.) In terms of colour, Galar gets a point, but in terms of style, Kalos gets a point. Total: 5 to Galar, 1 to Kalos
Pokedex Diversity: In terms of Pokemon in the regional Dex, Kalos wins on that front, but in terms of access, Galar wins on that front (Ice Types can be caught before you even reach Motostoke if there is an area where it’s snowing).Ice, in previous games, was usually found in the late game areas, but Sword and Shield made it possible for the player to get an Ice-Type Pokemon early. Total: 6 to Galar, 2 to Kalos (Galar for making it easier to get late-game types earlier, Kalos for regional dex)
Gyms: The first five Generations had Gyms that was exciting (Generation 1 introduced the basics while Generation 2 used the Flying, Bug, Normal, Ghost, Fighting, Steel, Ice and Dragon Types for it’s Gyms; Generation 3 had the first Double Battle in a Gym in the series, while Generation 4 had challenging puzzles. Generation 5 gave Gym Leaders personalities and made them characters in their own right) but by the time Kalos appeared on the scene it was clear the “Battle the Gym Leaders, Fight Evil Team, Challenge the Elite Four and battle the Champion” formula had gone stale by the time Kalos was introduced; to the player who had played previous entries, there was nothing that really stood out with them; the only one that Mega Evolved their Pokemon was Korrina. Even their designs were mismatched. That was why in Sun and Moon they got rid of Gyms for Trials (Gyms wouldn’t have been possible in Alola as Alola is supposed to be based on a traditional Polynesian culture; kids go through Trials to prove that they’re ready for adulthood, and the Trials in Alola is inspired by the “Coming-of-Age” trials). Galar’s Gym Challenge fits in with the lore of the region; unlike previous regions, where Trainers receive their Pokemon and then challenge the Gyms, you had to be endorsed in order to participate due to how challenging the Gym Challenge is. The Gym Leaders are not just celebrities in the region, but they are also major participants in the Champions’ Cup. Even throughout the Gym Challenge the number of competitors start decreasing (It is stated that most Gym Trainers either lose to Kabu or they have their endorsements revoked in the case of Bede). Even Marnie says later on that there are a few people left in the Gym Challenge, and Raihan mentions there are “Less than 10 Competitors left” by the time you reach him; indeed, by the Semi-Finals only you, Hop and Marnie are left in the Challenge. It also helps the Gyms are set in a specific pattern: First three Gyms are the basic Starter Types, the next Gyms are uncommon Types (Ghost, Fighting, Fairy, Rock, Ice) while Piers’ Gym is based on the traditional Gym battle from Generations 1-5 and Raihan’s Gym is based on Double Battles and Weather Conditions. Total: 7 to Galar, 2 to Kalos
Gym Leaders: Like Kalos’ Gyms, the biggest problem is that after the memorable Gym Leaders from Unova, Kalos’ Gym Leaders had nothing memorable going for them; their designs are either over-designed or under-designed and forgettable. Galar’s Gym Leaders are certainly memorable, they have a specific theme and they have personalities and backstories. In Kalos, how many times in the main story do you see the Gym Leaders outside of the Gym? Two, and that is Korrina and Wulfric (Korrina on Route 5, Wulfric in Pokemon Village). In Galar, you meet Milo on Route 4, Nessa at the lighthouse in Hulbury, Kabu in Galar Mine number 2 and Opal and Raihan in Hammerlocke (Opal when the player enters and Raihan at the vault); the only three you don’t see outside their Gyms is Bea/Allister, Gordie/Melony and Piers. That’s five out of eight Gym Leaders who are seen outside the Gyms in the course of the story. Personality wise, the Gym Leaders have individual personalities but at the same time they are very competitive and even when they Dynamax/Gigantamax their Pokemon shows hints of their personalities: Milo pats his Pokeball, showing us he is quite kind to  others, Nessa swirls the Pokeball around before throwing it, fitting for someone who is quite serious in her work in modelling, Kabu holds the Pokeball low with his eyes closed as if he is focusing befitting for someone who is passionate when it comes to battle; Allister lets the Pokeball grow before nervously throwing it (Allister is quite timid). Opal throws the Pokeball in a showy way, a hint towards not just her eccentric personality but her flamboyant personality. Melony cuddles her Pokeball before she throws it, showing her motherly side and Raihan takes a selfie before throwing it, fitting for someone who is obsessed with Social Media (Shield). Bea is stotic, Gordie is short-tempered and Piers feels like a failure as a Gym Leader and wants his sister to succeed him; when Piers steps down as Gym Leader he is able to go back to his true passion and even aided the player against Swordward and Shielbert. It also helps that Galar’s Gym Leaders are very diverse (in ethnicity and body shape). Milo is muscular, Nessa is black, Kabu is stated to be from Hoenn, Bea is toned, Allister is short, Opal is elderly, Gordie and Melony are big-boned, Piers is skinny and Raihan is dark-skinned. Out of Kalos’ Gym Leaders, only Grant, Olympia and Wulfric are diverse (Grant and Olympia are both black and Wulfric is fat). Total: 8 to Galar, 2 to Kalos.
The Champion: In X and Y, you only interact with Diantha once in the whole game, so the impact of the fight with the Champion doesn’t have a huge impact; in the Generation 1 games, your rival becomes the Champion and loses to the player; in Generation 2, Lance aids the player against Team Rocket before you battle him; in Ruby and Sapphire, Steven helps you a fair amount, while in Emerald, Wallace takes on this role; in Sinnoh, Cynthia acts as a “big sister” to the player, while in Black and White, Alder acts as a mentor to the player and Cheren; Black and White 2 had Iris, who helped you quite a few times before you battle her, and in Sword and Shield Leon is your rival’s older brother and the person who endorsed you and Hop; in these cases the Champion Battle has a huge impact on the player, as you are basically fighting someone who has a shared history with you; whether that is a rival, friend or mentor. You didn’t have all that with Diantha, so the Champion Battle didn’t have an impact as it did with Gens 1-5 and Generation 8; instead, the battle with Diantha felt more like a Gym battle than a Champion battle. In Sword and Shield, you start off watching a video of the Champion’s Cup before you and Hop go to Wedgehurst to meet up with Leon (Despite being the Champion, Leon has a tendency to get himself lost and is a bit of a cloudcuckoolander), before he gives you and Hop a Pokemon; until you visit Professor Magnolia, he stubbornly refuses to endorse you and Hop. Magnolia calls him out on it. You run into him quite a few times (in Hammerlocke, he asks the player about Hop following his defeat to Bede; he also says that he and Raihan are rivals, however they respect each other.) Leon’s relationships with Sonia, Raihan, Hop and the player is one of the many aspects to the character; he also deals with problems in the region and the only time he failed was when he tried to stop Eternatus. Leon is a peacekeeper, a skilled trainer and the greatest trainer of the Galar Region. When Team Flare decides to use the Ultimate Weapon, Diantha was in Lumoise City minding her own business. Lance, Steven, Wallace, Cynthia, Alder and Iris at least helped the player against the villainous team. You barely felt anything by beating Diantha as you barely interacted with her, while in Sword and Shield, you felt a sense of achievement when you win against Leon; beating the “Greatest Trainer” and the “Unbeatable Champion” is a far bigger achievement than just beating someone you barely interact with. Even after losing, Leon wants to continue his dream of encouraging Galar’s Trainers to reach their potential. In the DLC’s we will be meeting Mustard, a former Galar Champion. We never seen former Champions before Blue, Steven, Cynthia, Alder and Diantha battled them or knew about them. All we know about Mustard is that he was Galar’s Champion for eighteen years and that he was the one who mentored Leon; since losing to Leon he has decided to run a dojo and act as a teacher. Even though as Champion Leon’s outfit choices was a bit eye-rolling, his Battle Tower outfit makes him more “regal” and more mature. Diantha does have a sense of style though. Total: 9 to Galar (Leon’s backstory, relationships with the other characters and his post-game attire), 2 to Kalos
Villainous Team: For this comparisons, I will be comparing Kalos to Alola instead, as there isn’t a Villainous Team in Galar. What was Team Flare’s motivation again? Unless you count “Wiping out everyone bar the elite” as the motivation for Team Flare, they really don’t have anything to fall back on. Team Skull, on the other hand, are deliquents who have suffered poverty and abuse and have little confidence in themselves. The Aether Foundation have the right intentions, but took things too far. The games imply that Guzma, Gladion and Lillie have been abused (Guzma was beaten up by his father as implied by the golf clubs; Gladion and Lillie were both treated as objects by their mother, one of the signs of mental abuse). Team Skull and the Aether Foundation are memorable (Ya Boy Guzma, big sister Plumeria and rebellious Gladion for Team Skull, kindly Wicke, wicked Faba and brainwashed Lusamine for the Aether Foundation). Team Flare, I can only remember two people from the group (Malva and Lysandre). Total: 9 to Galar, 2 to Kalos (Galar’s Villainous Team, Team Yell, are merely an annoyance than an outright Villainous Team)
Relevancy in succeeding generations: In the Alola games, the only references to Kalos is the fact Ilima studied in the region and Sina and Dexio visiting Alola. In Sword and Shield, there is only one reference to Kalos. In fact, Unova and Alola have far more references in Galar than Kalos. It’s quite telling when even after two Generations after it debuted that a region is fast being made irreverent. It’s because there is nothing memorable about Kalos (As I said about the region, Santalune Forest and Unknown Dungeon are copypasted from areas in Kanto)
Mechanics: I have to admit, I don’t like Mega Evolution at all. It should have been Kalos only, not added to Hoenn. Some Pokemon do need a boost, but it shouldn’t be with something as temporary as Mega Evolution. Anyway, the lore behind Mega Evolution doesn’t add up: First, why is Diancie the only  Generation 6 Pokemon that can Mega Evolve? Secondly, Mega Stones are often found in nature, so why is Mewtwo, a Pokemon created through science, have two Mega Stones? Thirdly, the debate whether Lucario or Rayquaza was the first Pokemon to Mega Evolve. Fourthly, if it would make weaker Pokemon more viable in battle, why was 80% of Megas given to Pokemon that was already viable in battle, and finally, Mega Evolutions basically killed off “Cross Generation Evolutions”. (Only Eevee got a Cross-Generation Evolution, while Generations 5 and 7 didn’t have Cross-Gen Evolutions; Generation 8 brought Cross-Gen Evolutions, but only for Galarian Forms. I hope that in Generation 9 they have a Pre-evolution for Tauros and Miltank, as the two Pokemon are connected.) Z-Moves, on the other hand, wasn’t forced into Kanto and stayed in Alola as it’s own thing, and fits in with Alola’s culture being focused on traditions, plus every single Pokemon can be able to use Z-Moves if they hold a Z-Crystal. Some Pokemon have their own Z-Crystal (Starters, some Alolan Pokemon, Pikachu, Snorlax, Eevee and the Legendaries: these Pokemon can also use the other Z-Crystals as long as they have moves of that type; seeing someone with a Porygon-Z use Z-Conversion is quite hilarious) Z-Crystals are used by Trial Captains, Kahunas, Team Skull and Hau. In Kalos, the only Trainers who use Megas are Korrina, Lysandre, your Rival and Diantha (OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire was better at ultilising Megas than Kalos). Any Pokemon in the Galar Dex, bar the wolves and Eternatus, can use Dynamax and it is restricted to certain locations; Stadiums, Rose Tower and Wild Area are the only places that allow Dynamax; as well as that, the only major Trainer in Sword and Shield that doesn’t use Dynamax is Piers (Milo, Nessa, Kabu, Bea, Allister, Opal, Gordie, Melony, Raihan, Oleana, Rose, Hop, Bede, Marnie and Leon can use Dynamax; in the Post-Game, Swordward and Shielbert Dynamaxes Pokemon to cause chaos.) While Megas were given to Generation 1 Pokemon (Some of which you needed to trade to evolve them, which is a problem for those without internet that wants to use Mega Gengar), Dynamax has been given to Generations 1, 5, 7 and 8 (Plus it is easier to get a Machamp or Gengar in raids; difficult in one aspect but easier in another; I once had a Rhyperior Raid on Pokemon Sword. Unfortunately, I was blown out of the den)

Ideas for Themes for Strange Magic Weeks (so far)
Suggested themes will be collected here. Rather than reblogs, this post will be edited as new themes are received (with some time delay if I’m not at the computer), so they can all be seen at once in the Strange Magic Week tag.
Deadline for suggesting themes is Wednesday August 9th. (So, if you submit a theme at 11:59 pm Wednesday night, it will make the list, but if you suggest one at 12:01 am Thursday morning, it probably won’t.)
On Thursday August 10th, I will create a new post - the Voting post. Send me an Ask, or Reply or Reblog the Voting Post, with your Top 5 choices for themes. The most popular seven will be the daily themes, and the next three (or four if we have another tie) will be the optional themes.
Voting ends on Friday August 11th. (Get your vote in before 11:59 pm on Friday night, though really I’ll probably still count it if it shows up before I get up on Saturday morning.)
I’ll post the final Theme List on Saturday so there’ll be a day to prepare and Strange Magic Week can start on Sunday. Themes will be in reverse order of popularity, so the one with the most votes will be on Day 7.
Today’s the 5th but I didn’t post this until evening, so there are, functionally speaking, 4 days to suggest themes, 2 days to vote for themes, and 1 day to get started before things start posting. (There is no ‘time of day’ you have to have it posted by, and I for one won’t be upset if people decide to use the themes out of order and post something on the ‘wrong’ day.)
Role Reversal. It’s been done, but it was on the theme list both times we’ve done this before, which suggests it’s a sustained interest.
Chat Room/Texting/Pen Pals. Characters writing to one another. The initial idea lends itself to a Human AU, but correspondence could also happen in the original setting.
Historical Fiction. Medieval, 1920s, Aristocratic Comedy of Manners, Jules Verne type adventure ... or the sorts of thing that might appear as ‘historical fiction’ in canon, like stories of past fairy royalty.
Roland Redemption OR Revenge Upon Roland. Some people want him to turn out to be not so terrible and some people want his head on a stick. He gets a theme day for his fans and anti-fans to express their views. (Could lead to fandom drama so may need to lay some rules of etiquette.)
Kids Day. Again, a repeat of what’s gone before, looking back into characters’ childhoods or forward to the next generation - or maybe draw games or toys you think characters would’ve played with as kids.
When We Are Old. A look into the characters’ future, in counterpoint to ‘When We Were Young’.
Arranged Marriage. AU where characters meet because they were arranged to marry each other, or sequel where they find out they’re betrothed to someone else but are already in a relationship? You decide!
Fake Dating. Usually leads to Real Dating, after the obligatory period of Mutual Pining Due To Unawareness That Affection Is Also Mutual. Could also be a way for asexual or aromatic characters to avoid matchmakers.
Soulmate AU. I’ve seen these before, mostly in Avengers fanfiction, and the idea seems to be you have a mark that matches your soulmate’s, or their name on you somewhere, or an intangible line linking you to them, or their first words to you printed on your skin (usually in their handwriting), or a countdown to when you will meet, or you don’t see colours until you meet them, or you share injuries, or there’s a telepathic bond, or what you write on your skin shows up on theirs.
Masquerade. Magical beings of some variety concealing their nature from a non-magical world, or a costume party, or possibly a Phantom of the Opera AU.
Star Wars AU. Because it’s Lucasfilm. Maybe the Millennium Falcon lands in the Fairy Kingdom, or there are Ewoks in the Dark Forest, or everyone’s just reimagined as members of the Rebellion and Empire.
Everyone Picks From The Previous Years’ Prompts. Getting another chance if you missed out on participating then!
Travel. Vacation? Business trip? Diplomacy tour? Who’s going? Where are they going, and why? How do they get there? What if they get lost?
Forbidden Love. This prompt is specifically intended to refer to ‘goblins courting during the Love Ban’, but it can refer to any forbidden love.
Proposal. Not just a marriage thing - it could be a business venture, or a diplomatic one, or a thesis proposal in a college AU.
Beyond Field and Forest. What other nations or regions neighbour the Dark Forest and the Fairy Kingdom?
Food. What do fairies and elves and goblins eat? Where does it come from? Cooking, farming, hunting, and foraging stories and pictures.
Existing Media AU. Crossover with another movie, book, game, or TV show.
Highlight Reel. Instead of creating new content, share your favourite parts of things that you, or others, have already made.
Continuation. Write the next chapter of, or a sequel to, something you wrote on a previous Strange Magic Week. If this is your first Strange Magic Week, write the next chapter of one of your works in progress, or a sequel to one of your other stories.
Merchandise. Strange Magic toys or costumes or jewellery or bookmarks.
Fill That Plot Hole. Explore something the movie either left unanswered or left ambiguous, such as the Imp’s backstory.
Canon Divergence. A point where the timeline splinters, such as  what might’ve happened if someone in the Fairy Kingdom had heard Sunny yelling about his plan on the way to the Forest, or the Fairy King took it badly when Roland described himself as “even better” than the king in front of basically everyone.
Music Day. Choose your favorite song from the movie and make a cover. Can be singing, instrumental, collaboration, acapella - or, if you don’t want to sing, fancy calligraphy of the lyrics or suggested choreography.
Free Space. Like in Bingo. In case someone has an idea that doesn’t make the theme list.
Modern Fantasy.Take a modern AU of the story, but keep the characters as fae. Are they still in political power? Are they just regular citizens? Are fae the ones with the modern society, or are they hiding amongst humans?
Fake Exes AU. They know each other from something they don't want to admit (like LARPing, or crime, or something), then meet again in a different social context. When asked how they know each other, they claim that they are exes/used to date.
Space Aliens AU. Bonus if Bog is from the human faction and Marianne and Dawn are the bizarre aliens.
Rumpelstiltskin AU. Someone wants something turned to gold and/or demands someone else’s first born.
Mobster AU. This doesn’t even have to be a human AU - there could be organized crime in the Fairy Kingdom or Dark Forest.
Hollywood/Rockstar AU. One or more characters are stars or looking to make it big - or maybe they’re all agents commiserating about their demanding clients. (Fun sub-prompt - Marianne manages Roland, an actor/model, AND Bog, a rock star.)

1. Who is your fave character and why?
Emma Swan. I started watching the show because one: I knew it was about fairytales in the RW, and I thought it was going to be a 10th Kingdom kind of show. And two: because I loved Jennifer Morrison on House and HIMYM.
I love that our introduction to her was her breaking a dude’s nose while wearing a pink dress and heels. It felt very Buffy (the fandom that still owns my soul). I liked how she handled the first episode with Henry as well, in that she was very respectful about the fact that she gave him up for adoption, and was respectful to his adopted mother right up until she realized he was being abused by a parent who didn’t love him, and that was what made her decide to stay.
All of my siblings are adopted, or foster siblings, and I recently found out I was adopted as well (I had no idea of that when the show started) so I very much am in the camp that blood does not determine your family. But in the moment she made that decision, she chose Henry as her family and fought for him with everything she had. Then she did the same thing with MM. She started picking and choosing her own family in that sad, sad town, and gave a lot of hope where there was none, without being optimistic or unrealistic. I wanted more than anything to see this character get her own happy ending, and I’m still hoping for that, despite the current news.
2. Favourite recurring character? (Not a main character)
Look, if they had handled any of their recurring characters better? This would be a very different answer. As it stands?
Tumblr media
Eureka was a show I really enjoyed (before it went off the rails like it did) and I loved Chris Gauthier as Vincent, so every time I see him as Smee it makes me happy.
I’d love to say Milah, or Mulan, or Tinker Bell, or Ruby, or any of the other cool recurring characters they introduced, but they either never show up again, or they had the set up for a really interesting backstory, and then it was dropped, OR THEY KEPT MURDERING THEM IN COLD BLOOD, so I’m salty about it. Smee is the one I can just enjoy when he shows up on the screen, for the time he’s there, and I’m not hopeful or disappointed when there’s not any more story than there is.
3. What was your favourite S1 moment?
Every time Emma wore a see-through shirt.
You know, there are a lot of moments, I’m not sure I could pick one. I loved Emma when she lost her temper, and took it out on things like the tree, the toaster, that bail-jumper’s nose... lol
I LOVED the moment she realized magic was real. That was such a good bit of acting on Jen’s part, the slow realization that Henry was right all along, followed by the pure rage towards Regina.
The iconic “punch back” speech also really stands out.
THE EPISODE I WON’T REWATCH BECAUSE IT’S TOO SAD BUT THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER omg, such a good episode. All the awards to Jamie Dornan for that episode.
4. Favorite overall moment?
Tumblr media
5. What is something you wish you could change?
I would have let Regina die at the end of S2, in the mines. The “let me die as Regina” bit seemed like a good ending for a character that caused SO much pain. She destroyed the lives of every single person in that town, and it feels like sacrificing her life to save them would have been a good full-circle. SO much of the rest of the series would have been so different for it. I feel like a lot of what I didn’t like about the series were the backflips they had to go through to justify the position of keeping that character around, and I feel like that’s when it transitioned from Emma being the main character to it being Regina as the main character, and that was not the show I had signed up for.
6. If you could see more of a background character, who would it be?
Background vs recurring (because there are SO many more recurring characters I would like story resolutions for) I’m gonna go with Killian’s pirate crew. What went so wrong that they weren’t even invited to the wedding? Damn, son, that’s cold.
7. Who is a character you wish you could like but can’t?
Belle. A lot of my hatred towards Belle is a lot of self-hatred, and I see that, but it’s hard because I totally understand how she’d keep returning to an abusive relationship, but at the same time I don’t want to see it, and it makes me not like her character. Usually people love the characters they self-identify with but I usually just hate them. In the brief time Belle stood up for herself, and her child, and stood her ground about who she was, and what she wanted, I loved her character. And then... well, you know.
Thank you @wingedlioness for tagging me! I’m not sure who has done this, and who hasn’t (cause I was gone for a few days, and I’ve been kind of avoiding Tumblr since JMO’s news broke), so if you see this and you haven’t done it, consider yourself tagged.

•nickname: vee •zodiac sign: pisces •height: 154 cm / 5′⅝’’ (yas google thank) •last thing you googled: “154 cm to feet” xD •favorite music artist: tay tay, hurts, mcfly, little mix, broods and the family crest are new loves but omg yes good! •song stuck in my head: "amar pelos dois” by salvador sobral :’) our national tv is very excited/proud and has showed clips of it a few times <3 •last movie you watched: ...I huh have only been watching tv shows lately (namely buffy and doctor who on my quest to catch up with all my friends, starting to feel even more uncool every time they talk about a show I have on my to watch list but never a show I HAVE watched wth world??) •what are you wearing right now: pjs :3 •why did you choose your URL?: because I needed something more fandom-y and I wanted it to be everlasting and show my big loves. so I did a pun on skywalker by putting “shire” (LOTR, aka The Shire aka my fantasy home land) with “-walker” lol. I wanted to have harry potter stuff in it but goddammit shirewalker sounded to good to mess around :3 •do you have any other blogs?: @coverbound (book blog) @imgoingtodieoflonghair (The 10th Kingdom fanblog) and I used to have @gentsinsuits dedicated to famous men in suits (to counterbalance the just random suit pics blogs) but shut it down after months of barely keeping it afloat all by myself :\ •what did your last relationship teach you: well, it was a nice dream for starters. it seems that we loved each other very much even if he dabbled in less legal stuff. there was a missing/dead wife that dumped him and a brother that wanted me to know about it. there were cars. I learned that if I ever get such a relationship it’s just in dreamland T_T (ie: I have no relationship experience leave me alone T_T) •religous or spiritual?: well I have faith in a higher power. where does that put me?? I have no religion per se, so... spiritual? xD heck if I know xD
