My set up for yesterday’s recital. I was proud of myself for using no input mixing as one of my main instrument for the show and I am looking forward to exploring more with no input and in the future integrate it with my own electronic set. Running it through the line 6 helix, gave me sonic options that could be explored even more with the the sounds that’s running into the helix. I could manipulate using time based effects, overdriving the signals and looping the signal to create a wilder array of sonic options.

The nord drum was a beast yesterday with all the sounds crafted for the show and made it playable. It is actually versatile and easy to navigate around the menu and perform with it. 

My laptop was running ableton and the AKAI MPD24 and my RE20 was running into the laptop and being processed internally. With reverb, delays, saturator to really drive it and break the sounds.

I miss you guys. Thank you for being the best of friends in EM. This was taken by Brian over the past few days, rehearsing in B2-25, EM room and then on the day itself. It was an amazing experience performing with your closest friends :) 

I think we did an amazing job from being friends with the crew and to the recital show. Everything went smoothly. We were not in each other’s spaces, frequencies. We used most of the electronic music techniques learnt in the past 2/3 years. We listened to each other and kept calm when performing and just have fun.

This song is called Until Then. This song was written as a love song for everyone and also for our dear friend Max. The topic love can be applied to anything and anyone, as long as there is love involved, it can be applied too. We wrote this song together, as a collective. I came up with the chords and melodies, Shaz did the lyrics and melodies, Nysah did the keyboards and melodies, Yu Hang did the drums and visuals for the song and Charlie did the production and ambient fillers.

This song is called Take Control. We wrote this song together cause we wanted to break the first part of the recital with a traditional song so it acts as a breather for the audience from the experimental music we did.

Rehearsals

Half of the times rehearsals for the recital went well. Another half of the time it was not as solid. It’s always a lesson whenever we rehearse together. We always try to help one another and not let anyone of us fall behind. At times we will argue about how the song should go or sound like, the direction of the show and everything in between but like a family, we always resolve or come to a conclusion or compromise with one another. 

In my opinion, this is the best way to get more productive rehearsals and get everyone thinking and on the same page. I feel blessed to be part of this group where everyone’s skills are so diverse that we can have different elements included in our songs.

2nd half of The World We Knew

This is the second half of the first song, The World We Knew. It’s a build up from the first epic intro and we used this to create an even more epic piece. This song was brought out from one of our ensemble pieces in week 9 in year 3 semester 1. This was our take on an epic movie score and Blade Runner 2049 was the movie of choice to draw inspiration from.

This was the first few times rehearsing the final song for the recital. Still working out a few kinks in the song, melodies, bridge, the rhythmic placement and such.

The World We Knew (Intro)

This was the first few times rehearsing this song after we have composed it. It was meant to be an epic intro to start the recital with a big bang and with high energy.

These are the bunch of friends that I will be performing with. Im so thankful for them and I’m proud of how much we’ve grown, as an individual and as a musicians in our own respective genres. The thing about us as a batch, we push each other and we got better together. We help one another to achieve and complete tasks given to us. We have different characters and musical styles but some how it works well together and blended well with each other. That is what makes us unique as an EM Batch. Thank you, Yu Hang, Nysah, Shaz and Charlie. <3

This is my set up for recital! The instruments and setup that I’m using for recital. It’s gonna be awesome! The guitar and mixer used for no input mixing will be running through the line 6 helix to be processed internally which then will be running out to my audio interface and the nord drum will be running through the audio interface and I will be changing the parameters of the sounds on the nord drum itself.
