(just going to call myself bad romance anon because its funny) ahhh dont feel like you need to apologise for the ramble! it's a good ramble to read! how *would* a fairly kind and maybe noble person, end up apealing to astarion's more... capricious tendancies, and more importantly, what would they see in him behind his ~sauve and sexy vampire~ facade. It opens up interesting doors it's fun to think about!

and i would! but i'll try to keep it to just the initial yikes of their dynamic so I don't leave a full essay in here- I went in wanting to make a character who did have very self-serving morals, I am a very big fan of writing weird toxic relationships that sort of work, but only for the people involved. So my barb "KS" is outwardly a big, arrogant bully. Astarion singles him out for that, someone big, strong, in charge and, crucially, not very bright. Someone he would *want* to be in the good graces of, someone he can use to stay safe. But that's him falling for someone elses front. KS portrays himself as the biggest, toughest guy in the room, because that is what hes learned keeps him safe, and keeps him around but at arms length. He is, at heart, a very isolated person who is afraid of being alone, and has had very little gentleness turned his way. And that horrible desperate lonliness is why he initially falls for Astarion's honestly rizzless template flirting. They start out by using eachother, almost on autopilot, before they start to catch on to eachothers insincerity, and eachothers lack of self-respect.

Ooh that sounds very angsty and troubled indeed! I can definitely see both of them going for the other for these reasons, yeah. Particularly why KS might fall for Astarion's schtick, cuz when you're desperate for any sort of positive attention it flies under your radar that it might be fake, or maybe you know on some level that it is but ignore the warning signs because you hope they're not there.

It seems like they have a lot of things in common, in that they're both putting on fronts but are very isolated. So when you break down the initial barriers, the gooey centers are free to mix because even if they're not made of the exactly same stuff, they have the same consistency. Like when you mix eggs together into an omelet 😌

Aemond shoves me against the wall and presses me back, hands on both of my shoulders. He huffs, "you must think me either a fool or insane."

I'm pretty sure that Aeons are indeed aware of players, or should I say.. Prime Aeons/Aeon of Aeons existence!

So, hsr load was...kinda long- (at least for me, a phone player)

Imagine if during that the whole "history" was happening? Like while we were patiently (or not) waiting for the game to load and open, they had:

1) Aeons meeting "you" (and maybe getting yandere too)

2) Them getting so obsessed with you, that even old history books talk about you because other Aeons did EVERYTHING they did because they were either INSPIRED by you, either WANTING TO PLEASE you.

3) OH NO??? Where are we? Somehow the traces of Prime Aeon/Aeon of Aeons is..well gone. All the traces. No one knows where you went. All aeons (even the most calm/tranquil ones) are going batshit insane.

4) Now you are known as a legend, and that one day you will definitely return.. no one knows when. They hoped you would return, because you won't abandon them, right?

All this and maybe even more (deaths, wars, sacrifices, and etc) while you were sitting infornt of loading screen (or had it load in the background)

Idk why but I really do think that actual Aeons would be yanderes aswell (gut feeling?)

but your hearing is much better than his

he generally trusts your judgement, so if your ears twitch and you take off in the opposite direction he's following you without question

you're very lazy so he knows that if you're running its for a reason

as for the gift thing...

the first time you dropped a dead rat at his feet he was very confused

Everyone (lovingly I assume) refers to Ronon as a caveman, but I think from his perspective, the Tauri aren't as technologically advanced as Sateda was before it was culled. It's not really noticeable in Atlantis, but I think he'd notice it when he traveled outside of the SGC for John's dad's funeral.

Earth isn't too far off, though. I think Earth to Sateda would be like how Daniel described Kelowna being around the same point as Earth was in the 1940s. Several decades, or even a century or so behind technologically.

Knowing Ronon, he probably doesn't give a shit. Plus, living outside for 7 years does give a person caveman tendencies.

anon i'm so glad you sent this because i've actually had so many thoughts about how in a lot of ways sateda was way more advanced than earth and now i have an excuse to talk about it

i think in some ways earth was a bit more advanced than sateda (we never really see any sort of automated vehicles, and i think that's bc satedans didn't see the value in investing in that sort of technology) i do however think sateda was DRASTICALLY more advanced in both weapons and medicine, which makes sense- when the biggest threat to your society is the wraith, investing in weapons and health care makes a lot of sense. the stronger your weapons and the healthier your people, the better chance you have at fighting back

i also just think the satedans were more advanced culturally/emotionally. ronon spent seven years on the run from the wraith and he's still more emotionally intelligent than 2/3 of the atlantis expedition. that kind of torture (because being hunted for sport is, imo, a form of torture) and extreme isolation would make anyone clinically insane, but ronon's pretty damn fucking normal. he eats with his hands and isn't the most talkative at first, but that's really the only indication that ronon has been living completely uncivilized for almost a decade. if you took anyone from earth and put them through that, it would take a hell of a lot more than a few weeks of a hot meal and a safe bed to remind them how to be a person

idk where i'm even fully going with this honestly it has been a long day but i just have a lot of thoughts about ronon and sateda and i'm forever mad they didn't give us more about satedan culture (or athosian culture tbh. we learn more about the fucking genii than we do the athosians, which is a crime)

one thing you should know about me is that I'm a little insane

all of the new bill cipher stuff and euclydia had sparked a lot of discussions about the nature of a 2D dimension, so now I have a very strong one sided beef with anyone trying to claim that "we, as 3D beings, can only see/perceive in 2D" and as a 3D being myself I have to disagree and if I don't voice my opinions in public I will lose my mind

so welcome to "magenta's trying to explain physics without actually knowing physics to anyone who's willing to listen"

so first of all, one major key of this debate is the difference between "see" and "perceive", because that can lead to some confusion

in my opinion there are basically 3 stages to "sight" (and any other senses): 1. the information the eyes gets (our retinas?) 2. the image our brains create from interpreting that information 3. us comprehending what we see

I personally think of "seeing" as at least level 2, but for the sake of this argument let's refer to seeing as level 1 and perception as 2 and 3 (separating them to perception and comprehension doesn't add much to the discussion) however I still think vision encapsulate the entire thing, so keep that in mind

if that's the case, I do understand why people claim that we can only "see" in 2D, because in a technical sense: one eye can only see a flat image

for example, if we have these 2 balls in front of us in a 3D space, we wont really be able to tell anything about their distance and size with just one eye

HOWEVER, and that's the thing I'm mainly getting at: we do have the ability to tell size and distance in real life! by this great thing calls "depth perception"

now this is not really a concept I can explain with images since they are inherently flat, but you probably know it already just think 3D glasses, VR, or even just look around in your room! our two eyes + our brain gives us the ability to tell the distance of things from us! you can theoretically map the objects around you on a 3D grid just from looking at them, and if that's not 3D vision and perception idk what is

well, actually, I did see a thing being argued that "3D vision means seeing all sides of an object + inside of it, which is what 4D creatures will see" so lets think about that for a second

this argument stems from the way we interact with the 2nd dimension

as all the flatlands lovers here know, when we look at a world of 2D creatures, we are able to see all of their sides, and their inside, so supposedly a 4D creature would be able to do the same for us

but that's where things gets interesting, so let's go deeper!

this usually comes up in order to say "this ability to see around and inside of an object defines what 2D vision is, and thus only 3D being can see 2D, while 2D beings can only see 1D" however, I don't think it has to do with sight at all! but rather with point of view and existing in a higher dimensional plane !

the special thing about us really is our ability to move on the Z axis and separate ourselves from the 2D plane, and thus get a fuller view! so this doesn't have anything to do with us "being limited to 2D" but rather with us being 3D creatures in a 3D world and 3D perception!!! so supposedly, a 4D creature would be in the same situation, having 3D retinas and an overall 4D vision and perception!

if we were to be on the flat plain along the other shapes, our vision isn't going to serve us much better than it does for the 2D creatures, the only additional thing we will be able to see is the Z axis, which isn't really relevant to 2D beings

so now raises the question: can 2D creatures see in 2D? don't they only see 1D? ( - a line ?)

I'm going to jump through some loops here so I need you to hold my hand and bare with me

lets say we have this triangular fella with one eye, the light information they are getting is linear, so basically a line (which is represented on the right)

now this is where I'm making a bit of a leap: will their vision have 2D depth? like we have?

think for a second of the way we see, technically, even the flat image our retinas see is based in some 3D: specifically, objects appear smaller as they are far away, lines wrap into a vanishing point in the horizon, stuff like that!

the 3D world around us is getting compressed into a flat image with perspective, which we can later decipher back into 3D using both our eyes !

and as you might have noticed, a similar thing is happening in our triangle friend's vision! even though both circles are the same size, the light blue circle is closer, and thus takes a much larger portion of their field of view!

unfortunately, as we have established before, while this is a result of depth, this isn't equivalent to depth perception, as our poor triangle cant tell anything about the distance of the circles! is that circle close to him? is that a giant far circle? who knows!

this is where having 2 eyes might help!

our other friend, the 2 eyed triangle, should in theory be able to have depth perception similarly to us, and thus perceive 2D visually!!

how specifically their brain interprets that information is beyond me, the changes in distance, size and angles/curves might be visible as color changes or even width

it's important to remember that since there's no defined "width" to the "line" of their vision, it's actually filling their entire field of view and perception of sight, so it's not like it's a line within a black void but more of the definition of everything, so when compared to our perception of sight it's something more like this:

and if you want to incorporate the idea of closer objects appearing larger in their perception, it might be something like this (for a bunch of random circles in different distances):

the main thing is, when we are trying to say 2D creatures can only see 1D, it's usually just because we think of "2D vision" as a matter of height and width, when it can actually just be depth and width, both of these are valid ways of representing 2 dimensions! because there are 2 dimensions represented ! it's just a matter of point of view!!

I don't think our ability to see 2D objects from all their sides at once is defining what counts as 2D vision, it's just a way to see it from further away, and without relaying on perspective I guess?

so I guess that's the thing really, the core of this discussion: does perspective count? I mean perspective is what makes the axis that's "forwards" accessible, distorting the size to substitute distance. supposedly, when we step back to look to look at a 2D world, we don't need any of that distortion, and we can easily see both the accurate size and the distance of objects, so does that mean our vision is superior? that it's actually true 2D?

in my opinion, the distortion of perspective doesn't take away from our vision, it's just a way to represent the forward axis! no matter how many dimensions you have, forwards is always the first dimension to exist, and while you are looking straight ahead at one dimension lower than you are, your over all vision consists of a stack of "straight ahead views" along the additional axis, which I consider as giving it it's missing dimension!!

trying to argue we can't perceive the world in the dimension we exist in doesn't make sense to me, we are 3D beings in a 3D world which we intuitively interact with! just like we can move around the 3D space and hear the direction sounds are coming from, I don't understand why vision should be limited to any less, and definitely not perception!

Do you think Sephiroth knows Lucrecia is his mother now?

I'm currently holding onto the belief that he doesn't. At least, not in a detailed sense. Yes, he should technically be able to figure it out using the knowledge from the Lifestream. But he never makes mention of it at all, nor does his relationship with Jenova really seem to change in any way. Lucrecia is kind of an extremely important character throughout the Compilation. If they were going to connect the dots with her and Seph, they would have had him say something by now. Maybe they will do something of that nature in Part 3. But I don't think so. Sephiroth seems pretty unshaken in the belief he is Jenova's son, complete with conceptualizing himself as something inhuman and of Jenova's heritage, despite coming from two human parents. Again, someone with Sephiroth's massive ego would have openly refuted alternative claims out loud, especially during one of his monologues. The fact that he never refers to himself as anything other than Jenova's son leads me to believe that he really doesn't know about Lucrecia at all.

Plus, there's Opera Omnia to consider. Vincent pretty much outright TELLS Sephiroth about Lucrecia...only for Sephiroth to completely blow him off.

Keep in mind that the full context of this exchange is framed with Sephiroth going on and on about Jenova, only for Vincent to refute him with claims about Lucrecia without actually mentioning Lucrecia's name. It's treated like a reveal to Sephiroth, only for Sephiroth to ignore what Vincent is saying. So Sephiroth's rejection isn't "hey I know about Lucrecia and I don't fucking care what you have to say about her she sucks" and more of "I have no idea what you're going on about, but it's annoying so shut up".

At this point, and idk if there's a Jenova-influenced mental block or if Seph is in denial or what--but Sephiroth is not aware of Lucrecia's existence. And honestly, I'd prefer that. Part of the tragedy is that they will never truly meet each other. And Sephiroth is so arrogant and insane that he clings to the delusion of Jenova without considering alternatives. Pretty messed up.

so i'm rereading trc with my friend and we're currently on bllb and i just read chapter 30 and in it blue's asking malory what gansey used to be like before he moved to henrietta and the gansey that malory describes to blue is so different from the gansey she currently knows and i just cant stop thinking about it.

first off, malory describes gansey as "small" as in not just his height but as in gansey was young and it makes sense because at the time gansey was 15 but it just kind of does something to my heart when i think about young, small gansey trying to figure out why he's still alive.

malory then goes on to say, "He was still trying to prove that he hadn't just hallucinated. He was still quite obsessed with the event [his death] itself." gansey first died when he was 10 and to be obsessing over your death for FIVE years trying to convince others but mostly yourself that you didn't make it up that you actually died and not some part of a childs imagination it must've fucked with him so bad???

then malory tells blue exactly how obsessed gansey was with his death and was to the extent that he was always drawing bees and hornets and "Got screaming nightmares over it- he had to get his own place since I couldn't sleep with it [...] Sometimes these fits would happen in the day, too. We'd just be toddling through some riding path in Leicestershire and next thing I knew he'd be on the ground clawing his face like a mental patient." the gansey that blue currently knows doesnt act like that but this was only two years prior its fucking INSANE and it's here blue starts to think about the facade gansey had learned to throw up since he was a kid.

AND IT GETS WORSE SOMEHOW?? earlier in bllb in chapter 3, gansey talks about how he felt like running and how it had been a long time since he had felt that way. at the time it didn't make sense like wdym by that gansey but then back in chapter 30 malory tells blue how gansey just disappeared one day. left most of his bags and left without a word to anyone not even his family who then called malory to ask for gasneys whereabouts. "He picked himself up and moved on so easily, so quickly. He had done it so many times before England, Jane, and it was old hat to him."

it makes blue rethink every conversation she had with gansey previously, similarly to when adam heard gansey's voice of fear in the cave in chapter one where gansey had the panic attack because its around this book where the gangsey start to figure, as blue puts it, "It was more like the Gansey she'd seen was a partial truth."

it's so very easy to pass off ganseys insecurities and his feelings about how he should comfort other people but they shouldn't do the same for him because he's had it the easiest (his words not mine) because he himself skips over it so fast. like he'll mention something and then act like he's never thought or said it, like its something normal which really isnt and then it slowly makes sense that gansey throughout the series, starts to lose that mask (there's multiple masks but thats a conversation for another time) and the readers and the gangsey get to see what the real gansey is like instead of the bulletproof, untouchable gansey they're used to seeing.

So my confidence went down back in S2, but then S3 was a new beginning and no matter what happened, I just wanted to feel the same way I did back with S1

Now I really think its the players that got insanely good with the years and I focus rly on more having fun and leveling up my gears

well so i'm two weeks into trying a higher dose of vyvanse and i can confidently say i can't fucking tell whether it's doing jack-shit or not

Some of it is undoubtedly that I've been frantically busy at the farm, and have had very little time to not be frantically busy.

But like. I had a slower couple of days just now and haven't managed to reset from the frazzledness. And then I posted a story I'd been working on for two years today, and expected at least a sense of satisfaction, but I felt basically nothing, and while it's been nice to get some comments about it, I haven't managed to scrounge up any fucking, idk if it's dopamine or serotoinin or whatever, i've just been like "ah yes ok good" and moved on. Which is incredibly disappointing, and is also very clearly my interior reaction and has nothing to do with people's reactions.

Like. Do I just not get to have things feel nice, now? IDK. Is that the Vyvanse? Is it just that I suck? I don't know. I spent much of today, when I was suddenly less busy, struggling to make basic decisions, and completely failed to do the one errand I had wanted to do, because the very basic logistics of it were completely outside of my capabilities. A single decision will drain my life force like a fucking vampire, it's insane. And I have discovered new levels of getting stuck on the couch scrolling apps I don't actually want to look at but physically cannot close, it's really wild how much worse that could get than the bad it was already in my normal unmedicated life.

So. I guess I've proven that I don't respond to stimulant medication. So there's not really any point keeping up with these $300 3-minute psych appointments. Most of the people I know who've managed to get diagnoses and treatment have admitted that it was hard to get the meds right, but most of them have managed to find something that does fucking anything.

All I get is dehydrated. That's it really, I know I've taken the meds becuse no matter how much water I drink in a day it's not enough. I've been really faithful on the Vyvanse and it's a moderately high dose.

Maybe it isn't ADHD? Maybe I'm just really uniquely bad at experiencing emotions and executively functioning. I don't know what else to try, and don't really have anyone else to ask.

I guess I give up. At least I don't have to wonder anymore whether so many of my life's problems could be solved with medical treatment. Hurrah, the answer's no!
