apparently an unpopular opinion… I liked the final season of t u a … maybe it s just childish tv time commenters that seem upset. But that's the only comments I've seen.
#Alchemypanda is rambling#does it have flaws yes?#but I did not hate it as much as some people seem to do#Then again I always enjoy t u a for it's jokes and sibling bonds#I could write a page full of shitty reason people hate the final season tho lol but I'd just be yelling at myself

listen i know we all love steve “completely ignorant of queer culture to the point that bisexuality is a surprise” harrington being roasted and educated in turns by robin and eddie, yadda yadda, good stuff. i read “they made a horror version of rocky?” in a fic recently and cackled. also a big fan of “he knew he was bi from the start and just never talked about it” as a trope, love it excellent well done
but what about steve who realizes after starcourt that the most important person in his life now has this thing that’s a major part of her life that he knows nothing about, and what if he fucks it up? what if he says something ignorant or rude by accident, and hurts her? what if he loses her because he didn’t know the right thing to say? what if he can’t keep her safe because he doesn’t know what to look out for? absolutely fucking not, this steve says
and listen she’d never say anything, because she can tell that he can tell how much she likes teasing him and teaching him things, so he plays dumb, and she thinks it’s very sweet. but she notices when the zines she keeps under her bed that she buys at that one secret bookshop in indy when she can sneak away on family trips start going missing, always one at a time, and replaced in a few days with another disappearing. and she finds the new ones he must have gone to buy the weekend she was at her aunt’s house hidden in the back of his closet when she goes to steal one of his sweaters. and she notices when he slips more of her queerer movie recommendations into his personal take home pile rather than the movie night stack when he thinks she’s not looking.
she doesn’t notice when he drives to indianapolis after she tries to explain to him why she can’t just ask out a cute girl, tries to impress on him the fear attached to every moment of attraction that he simply has never had to feel, but later she finds a crumpled receipt from a diner in one of his jacket pockets when she’s looking for his keys, and the address is across the street from the bar the gorgeous woman at the bookstore told her about, the one she memorized the address of but hasn’t worked up the guts to think about visiting, and she knows he must have gone looking for a place like that, must have been trying to understand, must have been scoping it out to make sure it was somewhere she could feel safe, after she told him she never had.
so when eddie nearly pops a blood vessel when they clock each other and she mentions that steve is the only person she’s ever come out to before, her hackles come up. because she gets it, she does, he’s only known king steve until recently, so it makes sense that he would be afraid, be concerned for her safety.
but steve is her person, and no one- no one- has ever made her feel as protected or as cared for as he does. no one has ever tried as hard to understand her, no one has ever put so much work into making her feel safe and seen and loved. and she thinks maybe even if no one else ever does, that’s ok. because she has steve, and more importantly steve has her, and that means no one gets to question his ally credentials in her presence without a dressing down to remember, no matter how well they mean or how recently they helped save the world.
(and maybe she’s not as surprised as she could be when he figures out bisexuality all on his own, because she’s been reading all the same pamphlets he has, after all. and she’s seen the way he looks at eddie, i mean come on. maybe no one else has noticed, but then, nobody knows steve harrington like she does.)
#stranger things#steve harrington#robin buckley#platonic stobin#steddie#(if you squint)#this got away from me#i just really love love giving steve a bit more credit yk?#like yes he’s very stupid and he has a history of being self absorbed#and we love that about him#he’s very flawed and that makes him interesting#but i really feel like one of his defining traits is his need to be useful to the people he loves#combine that with his abandonment issues and i really feel like he would be scared of fucking up and losing robin#and yeah he would play dumb like he does with dustin and d&d#but i don’t believe he knows nothing about d&d after all this time and i don’t believe he would let himself know nothing about queer culture#i’m just so so attached to the idea of steve who knows that teasing him for being dumb is his friends’ love language with him#so he pretends to be dumber than he is so they have chances to explain things to him#also stobin sharing clothes is so so so important to me just putting that out there#anyway i just think they’re neat#my writing

I’ve mentioned this elsewhere but it feels relevant again in light of the most recent episode. Something that’s really fascinating to me about Orym’s grief in comparison to the rest of the hells’ grief is that his is the youngest/most fresh and because of that tends to be the most volatile when it is triggered (aside from FCG, who was two and obviously The Most volatile when triggered.)
As in: prior to the attack on Zephrah, Orym was leading a normal, happy, casual life! with family who loved him and still do! Grief was something that was inflicted upon him via Ludinus’ machinations, whereas with characters like Imogen or Ashton, grief has been the background tapestry of their entire lives. And I think that shows in how the rest of them are largely able to, if not see past completely (Imogen/Laudna/Chetney) then at least temper/direct their vitriol or grief (Ashton/Fearne/Chetney again) to where it is most effective. (There is a glaring reason, for example, that Imogen scolded Orym for the way he reacted to Liliana and not Ashton. Because Ashton’s anger was directed in a way that was ultimately protective of Imogen—most effective—and Orym’s was founded solely in his personal grief.)
He wants Imogen to have her mom and he wants Lilliana to be salvageable for Imogen because he loves Imogen. But his love for the people in his present actively and consistently tend to conflict with the love he has for the people in his past. They are in a constant battle and Orym—he cannot fathom losing either of them.
(Or, to that point, recognize that allowing empathy to take root in him for the enemy isn't losing one of them.)
It is deeply poignant, then, that Orym’s grief is symbolized by both a sword and shield. It is something he wields as a blade when he feels his philosophy being threatened by certain conversational threads (as he believes it is one of the only things he has left of Will and Derrig, and is therefore desperately clinging onto with both bloody hands even if it makes him, occasionally, a hypocrite), but also something he can use in defense of the people he presently loves—if that provocative, blade-grief side of him does not push them—or himself—away first.
(it won’t—he is as loved by the hells as he loves them. he just needs to—as laudna so beautifully said—say and hear it more often.)
#critical role#cr spoilers#bells hells#orym of the air ashari#cr meta#imogen temult#ashton greymoore#liliana temult#this is genuinely completely written in good faith as someone who loves orym#but is also about orym and so will inevitably end up being completely misconstrued and made into discourse. alas#I could talk about how Orym’s unwillingness to allow the hells to actually finish/come to a solid conclusion on Philosophy Talk#is directly connected to one of the largest criticisms of c3 (that they are constantly having these conversations)#all day. alas. engaging with orym’s flaws tends to make people upset#it is ESP prevelant when he walks off after exclaiming ‘they (vangaurd) are NOT right’#which was not only never said but wasn’t even what they were talking about#he even admits as much to imogen like ten minutes later! that he is incapable of viewing it objectively#which is 100% justifiable and understandable but simultaneously does not make his grief alone the most important perspective in the world#also bc i fear ppl will play semantics on my tags yes the line ‘i hope she’s right’ was said but it was from ASHTON#who does not believe they are at all and wasn’t saying they actively WERE right. orym just heard something to latch onto and ran with it#ultimately there is a reason orym only admitted that he was struggling when he had stepped away to talk to dorian#who has not been around and thusly has not changed once n orym's eyes#and it isn't that the hells never check in or care. they do. they have several times over#it is dishonest to say they haven't#the actual reason is that all of this is something He Is Aware Of. he doesn't mention it bc he KNOWS it's hypocritical and selfish#he says as much!#EXHALES. @ MY OWN BRAIN CAN WE THINK ABT MOG AGAIN. FYRA RAI EVEN. FOR ME.#posting this literally at 8 in the morning so I can get my thoughts out of my brain but also attempt to immediately make this post invisibl

Hey guys would it be cool if I killed myself right fucking now
#FUCK MAN#FUCKKKKKK#AUGH. AUGH.#this is why I LIKE that the manga changes things. this is why I appreciate this form of the story#does it make mistakes? a ton#but I think the point of the manga existing is so that this story and ways to tell it can be experimented with#is the game better? yes#of course!!#but it existing and being well received allows this manga to experiment with this sorry and these characters#this was well executed and worked well in game#but what if we expressed it this way?#what if we expressed this or portrayed this like this?#that is the beauty of it to me and this chapter encapsulates that perfectly to me#this whole scene would probably not work as well in the game#that’s why similar scenes were taken out and unused l#but this adaptation doesn’t have the pressure of being ‘good’ anymore#the game exists and it’s perfect. now the manga can do as it likes and tests what would work well and what wouldn’t#how else could this story be told?#and i think that while it misses the mark a lot it’s beautiful in that way#omori the game will always be better. but the manga is new and fun and experimental and I love that it is#a 1:1 recreation of the game with new art would likely suck a bit more than this fun#sometimes awful sometimes beautiful retelling#which is why I defend it so often Hejejejdjjd… it’s MEANT to have flaws it’s meant to experiment and god when it hits it HITS#like here. everything they’ve done with stranger and the barnyard and mari and something is heartbreaking#omori#omori mari#omori basil#omori manga#omori stranger#omori omori

Genuine question. Do you like or dislike Rob? Your posts tend to imply both feelings hahaha
Do I like Rob?
#i think this is a funny response so im leaving the text at that#but in all seriousness#my feelings and opinions toward and about Rob are complex#clearly#and this video does well encapsulate that lmfaooo#but like. i think he's done some irreparable things and i think he still currently holds some. less than stellar views#and a lot of his investments are.. well.#but he created my favourite thing in the world#and there are things i do admire him for and appreciate he's done/does#at the same time many of those things are still flawed#i.e giving us gay rep but having to be pressured and convinced to actually make it concretely textual#bc he just. doesnt understand why thats important#also i have a weird like .. more social than parasocial relationship with him#which ill admit makes my feelings even more complex and a little biased toward him#hes a weirdly captivating person irl like he feels very genuine theres something about talking to him#also he keeps giving me things i ask for so... ya know#but then i hear things hes done or said and wanna bash him like a whack a mole#so yes and no but yes but also no#which basically just means i get to have fun with it and talk about how hes a cuck with no care#rob mcelhenney#ask

the staggering amount of x-men 97 viewers utterly trashing on rogue all over the internet because she fumbled gambit and hurt him...
rogue has constantly lived in a nightmare scenario that no human being has ever had to try and navigate (being unable to physically touch anyone) wowwww!!! how could she make the inexcusable mistake of latching onto the first instance of physical contact in another person, but then actually realizing the mistake she had made once she'd actually got to live that experience (that she has never ever had before)
lmao. what a horrible evil bitchhh bro!!!! something something. media literacy
#ya it was shitty of her but the ppl actively campaigning for her being 'unworthy' of gambit now... come on now.#x-men 97#x men 97#rogue#gambit#I AM THE WORLD'S BIGGEST GAMBIT SIMP#i have been in love with him since the 90s & i want the world for him. yes#does this mean that we should crucify rogue for not knowing how to manage her power situation w her love life. no#did she fuck up? yes.#she is a character and she has demonstrated a flaw in judgement. she is not an irredeemable trash heap#why am i explaining this

tired of early 20-somethings acting like harry potter was never good or had no value in its day like shut the fuck up half of you weren't even there when it peaked
#sit with the cognitive dissonance like the rest of us or shut up honestly#was it a product of its time yes#was it's author a very basic neoliberal white lady from a country with a long and unchecked imperialist history yes#was the story influenced by said neoliberal worldviews and unexamined biases obviously#does any of that make it a bad story or an unimaginative world no#you can pick apart any fantasy world if you try hard enough#harry potter was a good telling of the hero's journey written in the format of seven mystery novels set against a fantasy backdrop#we can certainly talk about its flaws or how the author's biases leaked onto the page#but stop acting like it was never good and there was never a reason those books resonated with people#it's condescending for one thing and again- if you're younger than like...24-25 you didn't actually experience the heyday of the books#if you're 25 now you'd have been like 8 or 9 when the last book came out and probably weren't reading them yet#you might remember the latter half of the movie era but you have no idea how much it was the BOOKS that drove its popularity#never before and never since has any book series had the fanfare that harry potter did and that didn't happen for no reason#so find a way to make peace with that instead of acting intellectually superior because you grew up with percy jackson instead#this 'well MY generation's preferred childhood book series is morally superior to YOURS so I'm better than you' shit drives me up a wall#like get over yourself honestly#...sorry had to get that off my chest there was this youtube video and it was irritating me

obviously i love strangelove’s character but she wasn’t written well… as a woman or as a lesbian…
#i wonder whose fault that is!#yes they did a “good” job with the queer parts of her character (partly)#like her love and admiration for the boss and how she was flawed#but do we remember the tape with paz? when she was unnecessarily portrayed as being predatory?#yes paz was technically 24 but they all thought she was 14 so it doesn’t make a difference#there was literally no reason to portray a canonically lesbian character that way.#they did it at other times as well with her giving cecile private baths#like they seem to have went out of their way to make her seem predatory as many times as possible#yes parts of her character could be argued to have been written well. i’m not denying that.#but unfortunately she suffers from being a woman in metal gear! and then suffers even more by being canonically queer#also this may just be my memory but i think in peace walker you could go onto her model in documents or something and she had a model in a#bikini. like 😐#no woman in metal gear is written as well as the male characters are. and that is because of kojima being a fucking weirdo#so it does slightly annoy me when people choose to ignore that and acclaim the writers for being so “inclusive” or whatever other bollocks#because they weren’t. they were weird about queer characters in all the games.#and i’m talking CANON queer characters. because i’m very sorry but only a small minority of mg characters are canonically queer#and because everyone lives in mgs-queerland people assume because snake doesn’t get written horribly despite not being explicitly portrayed#as queer they think that canonically queer characters get the same treatment and they don’t#this is sort of the thing with raiden and raikov as well#in a slightly different way but the same vein#and i love headcanoning mgs characters as lgbtq+! i really do and i do it all the time but unfortunately it is not canon (for the most part#that’s enough of my rant for now#mgs#strangelove#strangelove mgs#mgspw#metal gear solid#metal gear solid peace walker#zad talks

objectively speaking, abh deserves more praise. the horror of the last update is very well done and despite the (undeserved) hate, the love interest are not one-dimensional, and the plot is well thought-out and engaging.
elena scatters the hints and the red herrings carefully across the chapters and ive never had more fun theorising and dissecting a book. i can't wait for season one finale and season two 🎆
#'objectively speaking' about abh and me shouldnt exist in the same sentence ngl lmao#but i tried my best#does this book have flaws? yes#but which one doesn't?#it's engaging thrilling and scary#and it doesn't deserve the hate it gets#romance club#rc abh#astrea's broken heart#rc astrea's broken heart

genuinely admire those who were optimistic for dishonored 3 but in this videogame industry climate and [insert a 4hr video essay about arkane's recent history here], honestly, not getting dh3 is good news
#dishonored#arkane studios#i know its silly to meme when the take is nuanced#and i admit that blade is one hell of an aesthetic. but i'm sitting out of this#somewhat being a hater yes. but that is because i am a lover#i dont think its pointless hater-ing though to be critical of something i wish i could love more#my takeaway from arkane is that its better to be not a fan of a company. a company does not make games#a company's staff does. and those staff need to be treated well and given budget and breathing room to make good things#and i have my doubts about that at the moment. very well documented and supported doubts#if arkane is given AAA budget to make a game. it probs wont be another dh. except maybe a remake bc those are 'safe' bets.#ie. dh1 remastered would sell#judging by doto and even dh2 (which i loved even tho its flawed). i dont think arkane really 'get' why dh1 was magical#so im not sure that a third in the series could necessarily recapture it#especially as theyve confirmed they're closing the drawer on the current overarching plotline#this is the hater corner celebration! i am pouring you a drink! [pres why does this look like blood?] we like themes n motifs here!#pres rants in tags#anyway mutuals lets make a fan edition of dh3 for shits n gigs

Hey, EarthSpark? Hey, hello, how you doing? Hey, wasn't keeping all the Decepticons imprisoned presented as a bad thing the villains did in season 1? And in season 3 the good guys kept all the Decepticons in the prison dome?? Where are you going!? You come back here right now!!
#transformers#transformers earthspark#what happened to this show......#EarthSpark S1 was peak for me i adored it#and then S2 and S3 just took away all of the nuance and compassion#remember how S1 presented the Decepticons as flawed and nuanced characters who were victims (and many of them wanted to live in peace)#and then the first line of S2 is like “all those dirty Decepticons have The Evil Gene we must kill them!”#then S3 locks them in a prison dome and hardly addresses any of them as characters#don't get me started on the Choas Terrans#yes these new characters who are the most trouble child coded robots ever should be rejected by the good guys and killed#them being reintroduced for the last 10 minutes of S3 does not help#i laughed when the giant robot lady said “justice for all” because no that's a lie#transformers earthspark spoilers

People should stop writing the Olympians as family who hate each other and more like family who love each other so so so much (less, more, depends on the person. Maybe their love is the “I would do anything for you” and maybe it is “I will do anything to you”. Maybe it's kind maybe it's harmful. It's love. And sometimes — maybe, not all of them, but sometimes — they hate it) but are also toxic and unable to show it properly, which results in some very bad but fun dynamics where they hurt each other, knowingly or unknowingly, and don't know how/can't bear to apologize
#also for the “zeus hates apollo” people#I really don't think he does. at least not HATE#[pjo version] it's a weird and twisted kind of love that is more harmful than loving. but it's still love#and apollo might hate/love him for it#listen these are Gods. they are people yes and they have emotions and they are flawed and they are Human in the rawest way#but. they're gods. all powerful and knowing. they're immortal. they see things differently#they might not even realize that what they're doing is Wrong™#“the gods are bad and they know they are bad and refuse to change” Not All Of Them#pjo#percy jackson#toa#trials of apollo#the apollo brainrot is real#rick riordan#riordanverse#rrverse#percy jackson and the olympians#percy jackon and the olympians#avis' post#unhealthy relationships#gods of olympus#no hate to the ppl who write them as ✨uncaring✨ in the “i genuinely do not care about/hate you”#i am eating up those fanfics like they're tiramisu#keep going. i love you

If you actually believe suicide is punishable by eternal damnation and that applies to Javert as well, you must invariably also apply this logic to Valjean, who starved himself to death. A passive suicide is still suicide; it doesn’t stop being so just because you prefer one character to another. To pretend like Valjean didn’t commit suicide and goes to heaven but that Javert must go to hell is just outright incorrect and biased on every level. They either both went to heaven or both went to hell, but you can’t have it two different ways.
Hey thanks for the ask /gen!
I don't believe suicide sends you to hell. I've been pretty careful to specify that *Catholic doctrine in the past* (as I'm not aware of their current position) has taught that suicide is a mortal sin (you can even see this attitude in Hamlet, in which the characters are Catholic), but I am not Catholic, nor do I believe that doctrine was ever true.
Your salvation is not gained or lost by your virtue or sin. Salvation is given by God: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, so that no man can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Narratively, how this applies to Valjean vs. Javert is that Valjean accepts his salvation and the mercy shown to him, while Javert, because of his pride and shame (among other reasons) rejects it and instead commits suicide. Neither of them "deserved" a second chance, but both of them were offered it; Valjean took it, and Javert did not.
God will not force you into heaven, but He does make the Way (through faith in Christ) available to everyone. The tragedy of Javert is that he is unwilling to accept that God's path is not the path he thought it was, and instead of living a new life in light of this truth, he ends his life in rejection of it. And in doing so, he condemns himself, when mercy was right in front of him--as so many choose to do.
#also genuinely not sure where the idea that i prefer jvj/am biased against javert is coming from? i really like both of their characters#i don't think hugo intended javert to be redeemed by the narrative and there are many reasons for that (especially given his symbolic role)#but that doesn't mean i hate him and think he 'deserved what he got' or anything lol. he's fascinating and flawed and i love him#les miserables#javert#les mis#inspector javert#meta#my meta posts#my christianity#also yes i am definitely a christian and that comes up a lot in my discussion of les mis as it is a very christian work!#if anyone is curious about more of my views on things like how the characters understand faith i would LOVE to infodump about that#bc jvj AND javert both have a messed up version of faith/religion in their minds but i think the story does critique this#anyways all that to say esp with an ask like this that directly touches on faith/doctrinal issues i'm gonna get pretty in the weeds with it#just wanted to give a heads-up#kay is a classical literature nerd#kay has a party in the tags#responses aka the ramblings of my brain#kay can i just catch my breath for a second#and ALSO also of course there's more than just religious symbolism in javert's suicide. i'm just focusing on that angle bc of the ask
