I spent three hours at my favorite coffee shop. I read Wallace Stevens and Yiyun Li. I did my morning pages. I started a poem I feel a little magic about. I went to therapy. I did my laundry. I went for a walk and another walk. I made doenjangguk for dinner. I filled out my food preferences for my first residency. I got two surprise letters in the mail from people I love. I watched Love is Blind.

Yesterday I ate
Breakfast Coffee with splash of Atkins chocolate meal shake as creamer
Lunch another coffee with Atkins shake (did not finish entire 160 cal shake)
Dinner I made doenjangguk with tofu and bok choy and we had it with some rice, seasoned squid, marinated cucumber, and like 3 sheets of seaweed. Had a hard time figuring out Cal's but I felt good about the amount I ate and that it was giving me some things I need. Came out under 300
Also a diet Dr pepper
But then the bf likes snacks and shared half a cookies and cream bar and then we each had a chocopie :/ they were delish tho. 230 for the snacks.
So it all came out to 635, not mad about it. Didn't really need the snacks though. Also~ I'm freaking out that calorie trackers can be so off but I'm starting to see changes so I need to put it off my mind

I made a large batch of baechu doenjangguk, korean cabbage and soybean soup, with stewed pork. I thought homemade naan bread would be nice to dip the broth, so I’m killing some time while my dough rises. I’ve been enjoying cooking a lot more recently. When you’re preparing a meal purposefully, every step, even the mundane, feels creative.
I’ve noticed an influx of people turning to cooking and baking as an artform or a means of expression, and I really like seeing how visually appealing or experimental people are with something so simple and essential. I’ve noticed a shift in creative output in general. Maybe it is also because algorithm factors into what I’m exposed to, but I feel all things domestic like fabric and culinary arts, interior design, wood working and gardening are more popular than ever and regularly consumed media is more commentative, equally satirical and thought provoking (i.e informative and political podcasts are very commonplace now). There’s this push towards what is mature, cultured, and educated without being too serious about it. It’s like people as a whole decided to trade in basement shows and janky illustrative art for dinner parties and letterboxd.
I like it over the messier, egotistical art and music scene that has been pushed out of the city. It’s quiet and private. It’s more forgiving. The head-up-ass syndrome is too easy to find in very artistic spaces and I don’t have patience for it anymore. I like to cook dinner for someone. Less focus on self and self image and more on community and the people I love. I will always love art and music, but I don’t do well in the environments it blossoms in. I will love it from back here.

Made Doenjang Guk (된장국) for diner last night. Loved this stuff when I was in Korea last year. It’s a soup based on a simple anchovies stock and Korean soybean paste (Doenjang, 된장) with added tofu, mushrooms and zucchini. Since I was out of zucchini I opted for eggplant :)
I could eat this at any time of the day! Very tasteful and really easy to make.
