Oh yes, he'd be a fan (phan?) of the Phantom of the Opera. He would not exactly consider it high art, but I think he would feel a certain connection to any work that offers a sympathetic look at an ugly, rejected, self-proclaimed genius goth with severe social issues and a tendency for violent outbursts.

He would not talk about it because "really enjoys an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical" is not part of the image of sophistication and starched-collar class he wants to portray, but... he would sing the songs. In private. (So he thinks.)

Tbhk Ch120 Analysis:

#1: Teru did not kill Kou on accident or by reflex.

I’ve seen this take on tumblr and Twitter and I disagree. As much as I like the poetic irony of Teru’s violence towards supernaturals causing him to hurt whose he’s sworn to protect from them, I think it’s wrong.

As Teru blasts Kou, Teru is already upset.

Comedy moments in the manga aside, this is the 1st time we’ve ever seen Teru visibly devestated. Prior to this he has always, consistently approached supernatural danger with whimsy and lighthearted cheer. Even when there were dire stakes:

Teru after realizing Aoi was essentially dead after coming getting kidnapped by Number 6. (Ch70)

Teru in ch79, after learning his baby brother went into the notably deadly Red House. (Ch79)

Teru after getting betrayed and apprehended in the Clock Keepers’ boundary. Where they’re supposed to be “undefeatable.” (Ch109)

The uniting factor is that Teru had some level of control. That there wasn’t any true danger/death. He’s gonna get Aoi back, he had faith in Kou to not succumb to the house’s wishes, and you can’t die in boundaries (applies to when the gang got jumped by Num 6 too).

Here, Teru is devastated — not bc Teru is sacred that Kou may get hurt (active threat) but bc Teru knows Kou is already dead.

Look at how Teru walks to the well immediately.

Teru isn’t falling to his knees like “Wait, I didn’t mean to kill him. What have I done?“

He walked there immediately. With intent.

He’s not acting like someone who’s killed his brother on accident. On reflex. He’s acting like someone who knows. Who’s already grieving. Who’s checking for confirmation.

Confirmation that his little brother died in that well. Has been dead.

This isn’t a boundary or fictional world. That is the real Kou — just of a different timeline — and in this one he died. No control, no games, no convenient truth. And Teru couldn’t protect him.

Imagine the Batfam all doing their own Bat Things in the cave, just existing in the same space. The kids convinced Bruce to play music over the speakers, he agreed only because he's doing work on the bat computer and therefore has ultimate control over the music.

Chiquitita comes on and Bruce swiftly moves his hand to change the song.

Dick: Ah, actually B, could we keep this song on? ABBA always makes me feel closer to my mom, and this in particular was one of her favorite songs.

Jason: Weird Dickie, ABBA was my mom's favorite band too.

Bruce: Hn. They were my mothers favorite too, that's why I was changing it.

Jason: Of course, Old Man, cant expect you to let yourself feel an emotion, after all, can you?

Tim: Not to interrupt your regularly scheduled make-fun-of-Batman enrichment time Jay, but ABBA was my mom's favorite too. She would play Money, Money, Money every time she got ready for any big business deal.

Duke: Okay, that's really weird? My parents danced to I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do at their wedding. 5 of our moms having the same favorite band is a wild ass coincidence.

Barbara, over the speakers: Before any of you pull out some ridiculous conspiracy theory revolving around 80's Swedish Pop sensation ABBA, let me remind you that they are literally peak Mom Music. Throwing my hat into the elves and culture discussion, I think one of the things that I find most... upsetting is _what_ Bioware took from Judaism to make their elves. Which is to say, not a lot. What they took was Jewish history - ghettos, diaspora, and blood libel. The bad parts. Stuff about our oppression. Not stuff from Judaism as a religion or Jews as a culture. We don't get to see elves celebrate any cognates to Jewish holidays. There's no equivalent of kashrut or Yiddish or Ladino (despite that not making sense with the Dales being around for four centuries). The two most defining features of Dragon Age elves, the vallaslin and the Evanuris, directly contradict Jewish teachings. Jews started writing down our history and laws as soon as we lost our homeland and independence to Babylon, but it's written into the fabric of Dragon Age that the elves didn't, and their story is one of obtaining a lost past, not preserving a remembered one. It's even indicated that the city elves largely worship the Maker.

In thoughtful hands this could be a story about how Jews are seen as a religion when it's convenient to oppress us one way and a race when it's convenient to oppress us another, but it's not. Instead the impression I am left with is that in the mind of Dragon Age, Jews are defined solely by our oppression.

this came up earlier when an anon asked about making an elven oc from a (marginalised) cultural context they themselves aren’t from and i think it always comes down to a question of whether oppression and suffering are the only things you’re interested in or whether you care enough to learn about community, family and joy. and bioware seems to fail to clear this bar every time it comes to the elves.

i truly think some of the most incredible work in this fandom has come from fans putting those things back into the setting.

#coding can be good! it can be meaningful! it doesn’t have to be tropey and only focused on violence and loss!#fine. make an alienage. but tell us about their cultural traditions! festivals! what do they eat? what songs do they sing?#‘we do what we can to remember the old ways’ is what we have the alienage culture codex saying. so where are they?#if the old ways are fading then what new traditions have come about in diaspora?#btw the other codex from that hahren refers to the evanuris as the ancient gods & ‘THEIR prophet’ & ‘THEIR maker’ as impositions.#implying the andrastianism may only be a veneer. which *could* be an exploration of something like dönme & sephardic jewish populations #facing forced conversion while trying to covertly practice their own religion.#that’s always been my read of the ‘andrastian’ alienage & digging into turkish dönme history for uh. reasons. has only reinforced that read #u could do something with that! maybe tabris has more insight into the alienage culture! sprinkle in those ‘old ways’ the codices mention!#but we don’t get to see ANY of that even playing as a tabris except a dagger named after fen’harel. okay. sure thing bioware 😐👍#<- that is WAY too much yapping from me sorry. thank you again for sharing ur perspective!!!#bioware critical

I understand that I am late, but I am watching Midas Man. It is such a bad film about Brian and such a nice film for Looking At The pretend Beatles and how in love they are. What they must to do IMMEDIATELY is make Beatles films with those four actors. Not films about the Beatles for fuck's sake never that. Just new Beatles films. A terrible sequel to Help! and a version of Lord of the Rings and whatever that weird western thing was. They're so pleasing, I want to look at them, I want them to be locked in a cellar together and think they're going to die. I want to see fake Ringo knitting fake socks. Their Paul smiles at Tiny John and I am alive, their George made me feel feelings about real George! They should have many films please, now, at once. They could come out to coincide with the awful biopic things we're expected to live through, and the boring serious ones could go see those, but you and I could go see something where they rob a bank to fund a small theatre show to save an orphanage on Mars or whatever.

I really wanted Time to meet Fi. So here's Time and Fi :)

Most of this is typed up, but you can probably tell what the parts I wrote say. It's just tiny dhdbfhdbbdfhdbdhd

So the context here is like. Wild and Sky got determined to wake Fi up. She popped out of the sword and went straight to Time because she's offended he doesn't like the master sword, creating the weirdest dynamic ever

I honestly think Time would be somewhat scared of Fi. He doesn't like the master sword and views it as a curse because of what happened to him. And she IS the master sword, which he does. not. like. And then she calls them all master and spouts statistics. what.

Fi on the other hand is the literal embodiment of the master sword, and is not instantly likeable (Sky glaring at her when they first met kills me dhxbdhcbdf). But she learned some about emotions with Sky and I think she'd win Time over. Help him see the sword in a different light, overcome his trauma, etc. plus I think he'd like her practicality, and how she spoke to Zelda to help Wild in botw.

Also the whole idea of a 'curse reveal' story would be out the window if Fi is there, because Sky would be able to keep zero secrets with his goddess-made-designated-storytelling-blabbermouth there. anyways.

-><- yeah I uhh wanted Time to meet Fi. Their interactions and dynamic would be so cool. I think they'd get along well.. eventually.
