Spoilers but imo the one thing the DnD movie got more right than anything else is how the death of the main funny character is always a complete gut-punch that leaves you sobbing like a fucking baby.
Like they give us a barbarian named Holga Kilgore who's introductory scene is her beating the shit out of a guy for interrupting her potato time and when she died I cried so hard I could barely see the screen. 100/10. Peak DnD. No notes at all.

I have now seen the dnd movie 2.75 times and it breaks my heart to report that the ending has not changed and Doric didn’t get any gayer

Saw the D&D movie this afternoon. First time I've been to the theater since Detective Pikachu, I think, which is somewhat appropriate (Justice Smith was again fantastic)
It was a pretty decent movie. The main plot (a heist, the core competency of the game) was solid, with a nice amount of twists and turns. The secret bad guy didn't get much development beyond evil for evil's sake, but the rest of the characters felt like they had good depth. There was a chance for them to turn the found family at the end into forced romantic pairings, and I'm glad they respected the characters' histories and didn't do that
Visually, it was hit or miss. I liked that they used practical effects for the "exotic" humanoid races, and they looked terrible in the best way. (The aarakocra looked like a guy in a chicken suit and I loved it.) The CGI for the spells and monsters sometimes worked and sometimes looked terrible. The displacer beast was incredible, though
Unfortunately the movie suffered from the Marvelification of modern cinema. It felt a lot like a knock-off Avengers movie. The characters spoke almost entirely in quips (but when they didn't, the dialogue was really good and could still be funny). A lot of the visual gags felt recycled from the MCU; Doric taking down the boss was shot-for-shot the Hulk vs Loki scene at the end of the Avengers. That was disappointing, but not surprising given what else WotC is doing. gestures broadly at the recent Phyrexian arc
People were expecting this movie to be terrible at first, and it's not that bad. It was legitimately cool recognizing aspects of the game during the story (the spells, the monsters, the stupid floor tile puzzle). I just wish it was a little more earnest and wasn't trying to ape Marvel so much

Fucking THIS. I love there was exactly ZERO romantic tension between Holga and Edgin.
A man and a woman platonically raising a child together and not falling in love has to be the biggest plotwist in the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie AND my favorite part

OOOH I’m actually doing this in my DnD campaign!
All of the Goblin NPCs I have have either Scottish or Cockney accents, evoking British classism in order to convey how they’re considered within the human/elf dominated society. They’re still incredibly kind, thoughtful, and intelligent people, so if my players choose to later believe shittier NPCs over them because of the accent, it’ll be due to personal biases that their characters are also likely to have.
However, when they are speaking Goblin, their accents change!!!
Beetlebug, my Goblin NPC who grew up in the Underdark, has a Scottish accent and uses cruder, less “grammatically correct” language when I’ve clarified that she’s speaking common. However, when speaking Goblin, she’s eloquent, elegant, and has the classiest British accent I can do, since Underdark goblins are more respected WITHIN THE GOBLIN COMMUNITY.
It’s just a little thing I like with her to try to convey bilingualism, and a hint to my players that my character voices are intentional and can be misleading.
Universal translators don’t just translate words from one language to another. They match your culture’s linguistics to the closest cultural dialect/accent of the listener’s world. For example: aliens might not BE Irish, but if they’re Irish in SPIRIT, they’ll be translated with an Irish accent
