Enhanced Potion Mechanics
Owl (my dnd character) is an alchemist, but not an artificer so they don't make potions in quite the same way. My dm and I worked on a potion-making feature, and tada
Improved Alchemical Training
During a short rest, if i have access to my alchemist's setup, I can work on a potion. If I do, at the end of the short rest I can roll an alchemist's supplies check and add that to the cumulative total for each potion. Once I hit the DC for a potion of that rarity, I complete it and spend the GP for a potion of that rarity.
While traveling, ingredients need to be acquired beforehand, with specific ingredients for specific rare potions.
Tumblr media
Owl can also turn monster parts into potions, but those are slightly different.
Monstrous Potioncraft
During a short rest, if I have access to both my alchemist's setup and also monster parts, after 3 short rests of work I roll an alchemist's supplies check equal to 13 + the monster's proficiency bonus.
On a success, I learn how to make the potion, which varies depending on the monster but usually gives the monster's primary special ability, and make one dose of it. The potion then takes me a cumulative DC of 5 times the monster's CR, rounded up, or 12, whichever is higher and costs 4 GP per CR.
On a failure, I can start the process again but it only takes 2 short rests and I have advantage on the check.
Vial of Stardust Tattoo
Once per day, I can use an action to name a potion, add materials to the potion bottle, and roll an alchemist's supplies check. Based on the potion's rarity, if I hit the DC, I create it for free. It has to be a potion I know and have the ingredients for, and on a failure this ability is used and I get the ingredients back.

Sometimes potions go bad. Sometimes they manage to go even worse and it almost loops back around.
Almost.
Expired Potion of Healing
This potion of healing was left outside a little too long and now it's turned brown and murky. The smell alone, of fermenting cherries, should tell anyone this isn't safe to consume, but some people are desperate.
Upon consuming this potion, roll a d4. If you roll even, the potion works as normal. If the rolled number is odd, take the healing, but also take an amount of poison damage equivalent to the amount of dice rolled (dependant on the variation of healing. e.g. If you roll 4d6, take 4 poison damage).
Poison???
Look, this could have killed Kuzco. It really could have, but unfortunately it went out of date a week ago and now it's turned him into a llama.
When you drink an expired poison, roll a d4. Of the number is even, the poison deals its standard damage +5. If the number is odd, roll on the Wild Magic Surge table and take the given effect. If your DM uses a modified surge table, you may roll on that instead should the DM permit it.

For a while, Greygold had some apprehensions for how they'd handle their new appetite, but you know what? Omeluum was onto something with the whole 'Devouring The Enemies Of Who You Care About' dietary plan.
Favored enemy now has new meaning to Greygold. Their orcish heritage would be proud.
Unlike DnD's warding bond spell, nothing is more sexier than BG3's warding bond having no ranged limitations. Maybe Greygold is tightrope-walking the star-crossed lovers tragedy. Maybe Greygold likes a challenge.

Another commission from a while ago! A fellow DnD player asked me to turn a scene from their game into a comic.
(What do you call people who are your dnd pals by nature of having overlapping player groups...? DnD-players-in-law? Step-DnD-friends?)

Reblogging in light of recent chaos
So I may have made a fantasy weapon of mass destruction.
Like many of you who scroll mindlessly through DnD Tumblr, at one point in my days I too stumbled across the ever famous juice that makes you explode. For those that haven't seen the post, it's basically just a 9th level fireball centered on yourself in a bottle.
Now, this is a great idea if you're a player. As a DM though? That sounds like it has too many ups and not enough downs. 9d10 of damage averages at about 70-80, which is a lot of damage in one hit, sure, but that's still on a pretty good roll, assumes that the dex check associated is failed, and no one involved has fire resistance or immunity or some other feature like evasion.
Basically, I looked at this the same way a barbarian looks at a rogue's daggers.
NOT BIG ENOUGH
If my players are going to kamikaze themselves I want them to have little to no chance of surviving, and if someone is gonna die just drinking the potion I think the effects also need to be worth it and, no offense to Fireball loving wizards, but a 30 ft radius of 9th level fireball just doesn't cut it here.
And so began the process of coming up with my highly illegal fantasy doomsday weapon that is only administered via deals with the fey (or the devil but really what's the difference?).
Nitroglycelium
This rich, golden colored potion smells like slightly burnt caramel and is often bottled in small, round flasks, corked and sealed with purple and red wax. Upon ingesting the potion in its entirety, the user erupts in a violent, fiery explosion. All creatures within a 60 ft radius must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw. On a fail, take 15d12 fire damage, and 3d10 bludgeoning damage, half as much on a success.
The user automatically fails the save but replaces the bludgeoning damage with 4d10 force damage. Any features such as Evasion that would decrease the damage based on the dexterity save are ignored for the caster.
Obviously, as the DM, you want to make this potion very, VERY difficult to come by. This is some opening a door to the Feywilds and giving up your entire identity to the fae level stuff AT LEAST. Making the potion, should you have an alchemist amidst the group, should be just as difficult if not more so. Insanely expensive or almost extinct and otherwise difficult or near impossible to find components and then transporting the stuff in general is near impossible.
Make sure that if your players really want this, they're willing to the pay the price to get it.
God I love DnD.

My new character for a DnD campaign! Her name is Latissa
Tumblr media
She is a slime girl who just wants to find a couple (and become a sorcerer) 🥺 Very childish and innocently flirty, she has a tailor friend (hence a lot of outfits) , who is in love with her but she is extremely oblivious :’D
Also, she is an alchemist sooo she is very flammable and dangerous, but she is a sweetheart that won’t hurt anyone who is a nice person
Tumblr media
Also she has a moth cloak for the winter!

I carried this thing for MONTHS with the EXPRESS PURPOSE of putting Raphael in it (knowing full well Larian wouldn't let me do that, mechanically) and I had one major miscalculation.

[[ All Croissant Adventures (chronological, desktop) ]]
[[ All Croissant Adventures (app) ]]
#Ok I'm gonna ramble in the tags about all this get ready:#I KNEW Larian wouldn't let me actually pull this off but I PROMISE you that stupid flask sat in my inventory since the moment I grabbed it#WAITING for when I could write this little bit about putting Raphael in it#I even threw it at him in the fight with a 30% hit chance and it succeeded so I considered that Larian giving me permission to say it workd#But as I was reading up on it again when I was sketching this I saw the bit about native planes and I cried LMAO. But it's dnd-#so I rewrote is as it would've happened in a game. U kno.#Also I have been waiting to use that fox line for SO LONG bc of Croissant's dad being a fox-like fey creature#So much backstory that's slotted in PERFECTLY with the BG3 narrative#Anyway absolutely wild that we managed to take out this ancient powerful devil - and on the first try!#Lae'zel with a potion of speed did WORK. Gale came in clutch with hold monster. Astarion gave Raph stage fright. Croissant made him dance#(I'm pretty sure he just doesn't have a dance animation in ascended form lol)#Hope didn't even need to use divine intervention - this party is terrifying#Croissant hated him but in the end I loved Raphael I see why all you people like him#bg3#baldur's gate 3#bg3 spoilers#act III spoilers#house of hope#croissant adventures#tav#raphael#lae'zel#iron flask#comics#ALSO shoutouts to you if you both noticed and knew which worthikids animation I borrowed the expression in panel 5 from

Gogurt, but infused with potions. I can promise you, I would only need to use a bonus action to slam one of those fuckers, especially the blueberry flavor.

Drop – Potion, very rare
Simply referred to as drop among alchemists, this potion is brewed by exposing the contained magical liquid to a droplhorse's luminescent light. Described as being mentally uplifting and often used for amusement purposes, the drop bears the danger of quick dehydration while bestowing the ability to smoothly fly and swim alike.
