Another commission from a while ago! A fellow DnD player asked me to turn a scene from their game into a comic.

(What do you call people who are your dnd pals by nature of having overlapping player groups...? DnD-players-in-law? Step-DnD-friends?)

I'm a DM and my players give each session a title at the end of the evening. In the last 2 hours or so (in game time) this is how the mood has shifted:

Session #2: 4/20: Kobold Diplomacy: Friends, Not Food

Session #3: 5/4: "I don't like Kobolds. They're coarse, and rough, and irritating, and they get everywhere."

So my wife volunteers with youth group at the local Unitarian Church and a few of the teens expressed interest in dnd. My experience is with 3.5E so I decided to try a pre-made module to get used to running 5E games. I went with Tyranny of Dragons because, well.

I have a lot of dragon minis. Kids had a great time with session 1, so I do some additional planning. Looks like the campaign ends with a fight against Tiamat. Which I don't have. I was trying to keep an eye out for deals on the figure when my wife said she had something for me.

Those kids are gonna get their butts handed to them by the cutest demon dragon God they've ever seen and I love it.

I'm currently in a D&D campaign of Tyranny of Dragons. I'm playing as a half-elf druid named Katazina Bloomvane. There was a scene recently where another player, an astral elf named Cassian, ran up and kissed Kat before they went to fight a dragon. It was the first time they showed public affection in front of the party.

After 9 hours of drawing on Procreate, I finished. I'm so happy with it.

Updated NPC portraits of the leaders of the guild I built for the long-form DND campaign I just started this past month! I'm doing a very homebrewy take on the Tyranny of Dragons arc- starting with Hoarde of the Dragon Queen. I created a guild with seven factions based off of different birds/ adventuring skills, called the "Flocked Feathers." Each of my players is from a different guild faction. They'll be coming together under order of the Guildmaster for the special mission of collecting five Tiamat masks.

Murder of Crows - black ops mercenaries Study of Owls - protectors of arcane knowledge, artifacts Pod of Pelicans - sea-faring adventurers Flamboyance of Flamingos - guardians of high society, popular cities Kettle of Hawks - desert-dwelling heroes protecting trade routes Clutch of Hens - defenders of homesteads, farms, villages Swoop of Sparrows - preservers of nature, the natural world

Pyrus is going to be NPC/PCing as the party's Questmaster! He was "proboted" to this position by the Guildmaster. After Pyrus was caught leeching guild resources to support his personal quest for revenge against Tiamat cultists (thus working against the collective interest of the Flock), Guildmaster Viotto threatened to remove Pyrus from the Flock entirely. The trade to remain a member of the Flock was that Pyrus must accept a leadership position pursuing exactly what he wants- capturing Tiamat cultists- but as the leader of a team of worthy, young recruits. That's the "probation" part of the "probotion..." Pyrus is much more comfortable on solo missions and is not looking forward to being responsible for what happens to anyone else. Pyrus is in for a ride with this team, I can't wait to play him again, especially against all the amazing characters my friends have made!

What's really cool about a two-part campaign that spans so much time is everyone's character gets to begin at the sort of least-evolved version of themself, allowing a lot of room for growth over the course of the adventure. It's gonna be amazing!

I have terrible brain rot from the Eberron campaign I was playing in up until August, so I’ve been making a series of character portraits based around my previous PCs.

Meet Ginger, agent of the Zhentarim discovering her draconic powers - which definitely aren’t connected to Tiamat at all. Absolutely not. Why would you ask her that? She’s completely in control of her magic. Promise. Her story revolved around agency and fate, fighting for her freedom from tyranny but never quite being able to outdo the overwhelming odds against her.

It’s been a really fun experiment and really improved my confidence in my background work - I’d actually love to do more of these so if you’re interested in something similar, get in touch and we’ll talk prices!
