In the mountains, there’s a woman. She wants to die. She had an unhappy love affair. She sings, “I shall go far away, very far, where the clouds are golden, where the snow is white. You will see me no more – never again.” It’s tragic. In the end, she throws herself into an avalanche.
DIVA (1981) dir. Jean-Jacques Beineix

I love going to my grandma's house because it means I get to watch old movies I would never usually see.
Did you know Alfred Hitchcock made a movie about a toxic gay couple committing a murder, then throwing a dinner party?
Tumblr media
This is how it goes:
Phillip: Oh my god. I can't believe we just killed David.
Brandon: Yup. Hey, let's invite his parents over for a dinner party!
Phillip: What?? But his body is still in that chest over there!
Brandon: Good idea. Let's serve dinner off the chest. Nobody would suspect a thing.
Phillip: No!
Brandon: And I'll give some books to David's father, tied with the rope we strangled him with.
Phillip: No!
Brandon: Let's also invite David's fiancé and try to set her up with one of our friends.
Phillip: No!
Brandon: And finally, I'll get into a debate with our old teacher about how it's ok to murder someone if they're inferior to you.
Phillip: Fine. But only if I can get drunk, play the piano and act suspiciously uncomfortable throughout the whole thing.
Brandon: Sure.
Some time later:
Rupert: You guys are acting weird. Did you kill David?
Brandon and Phillip: *surprised Pikachu face*
Tumblr media
Obviously, it was made in the 1940s so the censor's wouldn't let them be explicitly gay. But the subtext is not discreet. The men live together, share a bedroom and are very intimate. And the innuendos. Oh god the innuendos...
youtube
Some extra information:
Both the lead actors were gay and bi respectively.
The writer and one of the lead actors started a secret relationship during filming.
Hitchcock was apparently cool with this and tricked the two men into attending a double date with him and his wife.

Born sixty years ago today: striking jolie-laide Spanish actress, former punk musician (her 1980s band was called Peor Impossible (“the worst possible”)), cutting edge fashion muse (she’s modeled for Jean-Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler and Alexander McQueen) and ultimate Madrileña – the glorious Rossy de Palma (née Rosa Elena García Echave, 16 September 1964)! With her unforgettable asymmetrical Picasso-esque face, de Palma is a vivid presence in the cinema of flamboyant Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar (they’ve collaborated on eight films together to date, starting with Law of Desire in 1987. She’s also worked with the likes of Robert Altman, Lina Wertmuller and Terry Gilliam). Que maravillosa! Feliz cumpleaños!
