Angeal and Sephiroth (And Genesis?)—Dissidia Opera Omnia—Part Two
Hi there hello, I am terribly sorry for the wait, friends! I was pretty sick for the past week or so, but have recovered now! On that note, let’s dive in!
—
Angeal must come to terms with Sephiroth’s transformation.
We begin with Cloud meeting with Angeal after the group decided to take on Sephiroth. Cloud asks Angeal,
“Are you okay? I know I explained everything all at once…”
Angeal says,
“You mean about Sephiroth? It’s just…even though I saw it with my own eyes…it’s hard to accept when told the truth/facts. I’m sorry for slipping/showing weakness…just listen—“
Cloud stops him and says that he doesn’t mind being the one to tell Angeal everything that happened. Angeal also doesn’t need to worry about being stoic in front of someone that isn’t his direct student/cadet like Zack was.
Cloud then explains that he had become a soldier because he admired heroes like Sephiroth, though in truth, there were no heroes in the end because of Sephiroth’s transformation.
Angeal notes the following,
“Huh, just like my close childhood friend (Genesis) and Zack….all the kids my age looked up to him then, so that’s why I always thought I’d treat him like a human being…”
Edit: Small translation mistake I may have made, but initially I thought Angeal said that, “He did not want to change his own attitude/way of being” in regards to how he treated Sephiroth. However, it seems my pronouns were misplaced, and Angeal is talking about Sephiroth. He says that he wants to change Sephiroth’s attitude, as in, he wants to turn Sephiroth’s heart back to the way it was.
Cloud says that he himself can’t forgive Sephiroth, but he can’t deny Angeal’s feelings on the matter, and that he understands because of receiving certain thoughts and emotions for the old friends through Zack. Cloud also graciously tells Angeal to not worry telling Zack about how much he is struggling. Cloud will cover for him, and Angeal is grateful.
Cloud then leaves Angeal, who stands and contemplates Sephiroth once again…he thinks to himself,
“Sephiroth…did you come to know of your birth? I had Genesis at that time…but you…”
Sephiroth himself suddenly appears from a portal and begins to battle Angeal. They cross swords in the manner they once did in the training room, which shocks Angeal. He realizes Sephiroth’s fighting style hasn’t changed despite so much time passing, and wonders if they are sharing the same memory.
When they separate, Angeal appeals to Sephiroth’s honor by saying,
“Sephiroth! You surely had your pride and honor as a First….and we’ve both done horrible things, so let’s bear this despair together!”
The fight continues and the others rush to help Angeal. He is still calling to Sephiroth, saying,
“Sephiroth, what is the point in destroying this world? What would be in that for you?? If this is Jenova stealing who you are, then I’ll bring you back!!”
But Sephiroth merely laughs and says,
“I already have your answer. If it’s “me” that is here, then that means I chose it. I didn’t choose you, Angeal. All I need is Cloud. I don’t need you.”
This was a loaded statement, but in summary, Sephiroth is saying that he chose to do what he is doing, where he is appearing, etc..
His will is seemingly one with Jenova’s in this story, and furthermore, he only needs Cloud in order to be rooted to the world.
This calls back to the notion of “As long as Cloud remembers Sephiroth, Sephiroth will exist.”
Cloud and Cloud’s memories are Sephiroth’s link to existence.
He doesn’t “need Angeal” because Angeal is one of Sephiroth’s “inconsequential memories” that he cast into the Lifestream…
The next part is hard to translate, but Zack essentially tells Angeal that the person they are facing is simply not Sephiroth anymore, and is merely wearing his face, in a way. Rufus fully believes that it is Jenova, and that they are the same.
Cloud readies himself to fight and declares that Sephiroth will be stopped, who responds with a taunt like, “Come and try!”
Meanwhile, Angeal is in disbelief. He says,
“Sephiroth…are you….really nowhere (in there)? Did you truly abandon your pride as a human and embrace this power…?”
After the boss fight that takes place here, Sephiroth struggles to hold his ground and angrily declares,
“I’m not going down…”
The group responds with a power-charged Cloud, who receives an energy crystal boost from Rufus.
With his buffed sword, Cloud prepares to end the weakened Sephiroth. He strikes and a bright burst of energy surges forward, but Angeal’s heart gets the better of him.
Angeal rushes forward and jumps in front of Sephiroth, taking the hit for his old friend and falling to the ground in pain.
The others are petrified and Zack runs to Angeal, screaming that,
“Angeal!! It’s not Sephiroth! You know it’s not him!”
Angeal says,
“I know…I understand…Indeed, his form/body may be Jenova’s but his heart and will might still remain…”
With this, Angeal stands and turns to Sephiroth, finally getting his deep regrets out. He says,
“We were the same…and I’m sorry for letting you suffer alone…”
But Sephiroth has no memory of this pain and his old friend. He says he “doesn’t know this unpleasant sight” in reference to Angeal and tries to attack again, but Zack fights him off, saying,
“Sephiroth! I know my words won’t reach you…but listen to Angeal’s calls…don’t leave that to the monster!”
Sephiroth merely brushes Zack off with one of his “puppets and traitors” accusations and vanishes, but before his voice fades entirely….he says,
“You see, Angeal….dreams and honor were fleeting/not enough…”
Angeal gasps in realization and says,
“Sephiroth….so it’s true…”
Sephiroth’s real voice seems to slip through—the angry, hateful part of him that threw away his memories and aligned his will with Jenova’s. The part that rejected mankind willingly and grew cold with fury.
Angeal understands that his old friend’s pride as a human was lost and the Sephiroth he once knew is dead. All that remains is the monster.
Side Notes:
I am working on the third part to cover the third act. So far, it has been denial for Angeal and in this chapter he reached a small form of acceptance at the bitter end. Now he must prepare to fight his friend and say goodbye.
My translations may once again require some edits later, but for now a lot of contextual information has helped them make sense, even if getting them to translate perfectly has been difficult.
Angeal finally is confirmed to be the one that likely influenced Zack to treat Sephiroth as a person, another human, instead of a hero only to be admired. Angeal doesn’t want to abandon this, and clearly Zack tends to feel the same way. Angeal never idolized Sephiroth, but merely saw him as his good friend. Zack followed this example.
Sephiroth doesn’t remember Angeal, or is at least actively suppressing the memories while he tries to eliminate him. However, his agitation is evident, as he cannot fully erase his emotional state. Part of the hatred that keeps his own will alive likely includes anger and feelings of rejection in regards to his old friends. This emotion seems to bleed through his words, whether he realizes it or not.
Angeal would have taken a bullet for Sephiroth. Now we know. This broke my heart. He could have died by absorbing that energy burst from Cloud, but he threw himself in front of his friend anyway, even despite knowing that Sephiroth was not the same. Angeal loved him so much, and his line, “We were the same…I’m sorry for letting you suffer alone” was utterly weighted with regret and pain. These poor boys are killing me 😢😢
I’ll see you guys next time!

(In response to your recent post) You know, in fairness, Square Enix seems to pretty much treat any Final Fantasy game that's NOT FF7 like dirt. I do like FF7, but personally, my favorite game in the franchise is FF9 (although I'm currently still replaying FF8), and FF9 gets ignored more often than FF8 in some ways. Mainly: Rinoa finally got added to the DLC of Dissidia NT along with Locke Cole, but neither Garnet (Zidane's girlfriend) nor anyone else from FF9 got added to any of the spin-off games until Opera Omnia 🤷🏻♀️
I mean, Rinoa has fared slightly better than Garnet because at least Rinoa got to appear in a few spin-off games that aren't Opera Omnia or Record Keeper (where pretty much every single Final Fantasy character appeared in chibi form... man, I really miss DFFOO), but even then, Rinoa and Yuna didn't even get to reunite with Squall and Tidus, their goddamn boyfriends, in Dissidia NT... (sigh) 🤦🏻♀️
But back to my original point: I think it's more that Square just focuses on FF7 way too much, to the detriment of the other 15 main games and their fans (especially since, based on Reddit and Tumblr and YouTube, many fans want to see a Remake of FF6, FF8, and FF9, and are starting to get tired of the over-exposure that FF7 keeps receiving). I mean, Opera Omnia happened to close down its services literally the same day Rebirth was released. That is no coincidence. 😒
I agree with most of what you're saying here, but I think FF9 is getting more attention from Square-Enix (the collabs with War of the Visions, Ever Crisis, and now the FF9 collectibles being included with the collector's edition of the FF14 Dawntrail expansion) than FF8 these days, because based on all the countless rumors floating around all over the place, it's the next game on the docket to get remade. There's nothing like that being said about FF8, just absolute radio silence in regards to it.
I think Square-Enix has made it perfectly clear that FF8 fans come last on their list of priorities. They simply have written us all off.

Yuffie 2 - Clerra edition
Hello everyone. I have to mention more about Yuffie since I remembered/noticed more.
According to FF7 fans, the relationship mechanic and the Gold Saucer date are like...50% of the game based on how much people mention it. It'd be surprising if it was even 5%. Well, get rid of it from your brain for now!
Unlike the last Yuffie one where I didn't really care what I posted, this one is more Clerra-related.
In Balthier's Lost Chapter in Opera Omnia, Yuffie says this line:
This cutscene (called "Best Buddies") released way before FF7 Remake (it's the 4th one from a couple hundred lost chapters in the game). Anyone's who has played her DLC understands why her words strike a cord as it is hinting at it years before the Remake released. Well, Sonon came and died, so it would have to be someone else, right?
Yuffie does not appear very often in Opera Omnia. In Act 3 and 4 (both Chapter 7s) she'd walk into a few scenes alongside Cloud (Cait is also involved to some degree). Cater's Lost Chapter much earlier in the game has some stuff too, but there's not anything "worth noticing".
With the scene above in mind, what does Yuffie say at the end of her DLC?
Who does she want to join her team?
A cloud...?
Oh, this reminds me. My interpretation about the beginning of "Hollow" was that of "a person flying in the sky talking to clouds as if they were talking to Cloud". Take out the "fly" part and this may apply here as well.
Moving on.
I'm not exactly sure if this camera trick is a "thing" (camera tricks have been used before), but it's easier to notice when you put the speed to .25x. At the end of Advent Children after Cloud wakes up in Aerith's church after Moogle Girl and the group talks to him, he turns his head around to look at everything in front of himself before noticing Aerith and Zack.
He turns his head around past them just enough that Yuffie's pretty much in the exact middle of the screen. I wouldn't find this odd if she didn't have that flowery shirt on.
That shirt has 5-petaled flowers. In the ancient year of 2005. I've mentioned a few times that 5-petal flowers signify Terra because they literally are from her clothes.
They also appear on:
The pattern on Miss Folia's shirt.
Sprinkled around a Dissidia Arcade (2015) screenshot of Cloud-Terra-Onion Knight fighting WoL-Lightning-Y'shtola.
All over the Aerith-Cloud synergy attack "Firework Blade" which looks like Terra's similarly named "Riot Blade" attack.
The 2020 New Year's card featuring Terra as a mouse ("year of the mouse") riding Magitek armor with the flowers trailing behind her.
I suppose there's more, somewhere. Yes, the year FF7 Remake released was the year of Terra Branford according to Square Enix.
To a person who just found this bit of information, it probably doesn't "feel" like it means much. Most people point at Aerith whenever flowers are involved, but there's a heavy consistency concerning flowers with 5 petals. What's weird about Yuffie is that I've had such a hard time believing that they were doing this all the way back in 2005. Terra wasn't even a 3D character until the end of 2008...maybe this is where the hint started? They have leaves, which may bring some doubt, but they still are 2d flowers with 5 petals.
I mean, this is the end of Advent Children. Yuffie does nothing significant...ever, so how do we get from her to all this random stuff involving Terra?
What's the theme of the Advent Children ending? "Cloud Smiles"? Maybe that's part of it.
Ever Crisis just had a Valentine's Day event called "The Secret Sweetheart" - <Click Here for All Cutscenes>
The background and the ticket pull for this event is Yuffie (who kinda just joined Ever Crisis). In the event, Yuffie is shown starting a rumor:
They all make cookies for Cloud after this.
Every single character says they started that rumor in their own cutscenes and Cloud just "believes them" (maybe I don't have the context?), yet Yuffie is the one that mentioned it first. Yuffie's solo cutscene is different to the others as Cloud doesn't mention to her how her cookies tasted like or all the "nice" stuff the others show (Ever Crisis is trying to be more OG-like than FF7R...although you get Yuffie right after leaving Midgar and she has a chocobo).
How can Barret start the rumor if he literally has no idea what Yuffie was talking about when she mentions it? (Is this actually a Valentines tradition?)
Well, beyond trying to find out what's up with the event, it sure seems like elements of Jessie (like telling Cloud to smile) are implemented into Yuffie even before we get to see Rebirth. We know very, very little about her role in Rebirth (probably in the same way they didn't show Zack much).
My mind tells me that she's more of a permanent low-key (or maybe the better word is "secret") Jessie. Thinking about it a bit, the characters so far can be split into duos. Aerith and Tifa are shown as a duo and I think Barret and Red XIII are a duo, so in this regard Yuffie and Cloud are the other duo with the DLC ending and DFFOO hint. I'm not sure of the other three characters, so my reasoning can be flawed, but it's there, isn't it?
If that's true, does that make her the "second-in-command"? How about that word no one wants to hear when describing Yuffie? THE HEROINE? Would a surprise Terra's reveal minimize Yuffie's role for the next game? Probably not since Terra can't bother the OG storyline with her presence (can she can appear in it tho'?).
Maybe a lot of the Terra stuff will be explained through Yuffie "emulating" it. By "stuff" I mean things that even I don't know.
There's another thing...
Yuffie started a rumor? How about Mireille in FF7 Remake and her "rumors"? How about Kyrie starting rumors? Y'know, Kyrie? That character that's literally "not-Yuffie"?
You first see her on the train from Chapter 2 all the way to the very end of the last side quest where she's...
Well, the entire conversation involving Kyrie and Mireille takes place in front of Aerith's flowers. She just walks to there and the quest stays there until Mireille takes her place at the very end of the side-quest...staring at the flowers just like she was in the exact same spot.
It could be that Kyrie represents Yuffie and Mireille (who is the "Guardian Angel of the Slums") represents Terra (outside of being made from Lucca and Robo of Chrono Trigger). This is why both of them stare at the flowers...it's a hint.
If Kyrie is staring at the flowers, this does mean she's taking the role of "the Angel" before Mireille replaces her.
Considering there are two timelines...maybe Yuffie and Terra are...ah...well, there could be two Yuffies...maybe I'm stupid and none of this is anything! Although I do wonder if they cut something from Yuffie's OG character and made her optional for that reason...and we'll get to see what "that" is.
Doesn't Yuffie's theme play around the point the Kyrie side-quest starts where Johnny gets his wallet stolen?
Unless the next part of the demo has something surprising, this may be the last post until the game.
(Yuffie calls herself "treasure princess" in Crisis Core). There's been "debates" on whether or not she's technically a princess.
There's also that thing where Priscilla is technically Rikku (FFX)...or literally Rikku. I'm not going to bother with that, but she does know Yuffie. It would be on-point since Rikku called Yuna "Yunnie".
To people who are unfamiliar with Clerra - the characters involved tend to be young, sometimes very young. Being young is part of the symbolism.

Kingdom Hearts 4 is another Isekai
EDIT: People are claiming that the forest section of the Kingdom Hearts IV trailer is Endor from Star Wars. (1), (2)
EDIT 2: It’s assumed that Hades was the one that surprised Donald and Goofy at the end of the trailer (blue fire is his thing), but does this really mean they were looking for Hades?
So, Kingdom Hearts 4′s trailer finally dropped, and it’s Sora in “another world” called Quadratum. Black torsions portals(?) suddenly drop “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Chaos” into the world from his earlier incarnation in Dissidia’s early alpha phase, or something like that.
So, Stranger of Paradise released a while ago and that Jack Garland was obviously not from FF1′s world. He should have went to Quadratum.
So, Forspoken hasn’t released yet and Frey is from New York and just randomly ends up in another world. She very similar to another character, and also that Unreal 5 demo character...
So, Opera Omnia released several centuries ago and every single character is just involuntarily from another world (even Enna Kros, who’s a god).
So, there was a manga called Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger, and it was about a Square Enix employee that ends up in a Final Fantasy world after he dies. (Published in 2018)
So, there’s a sequel to the FF7 Remake (which is also a sequel), and we’re expecting another character to end up in some other world, after one character was magically resurrected, maybe...
This sounds like that random NPC in the Sector 7 slums of FF7R where she (or he?) says that the ending of Loveless was different, but everything else was the same. Also, Sephiroth.
And then a torsion black heartless chaos portal(?) appears. I mean, it’s literally appearing at the moment this line is said. It’s now easy to go to another world...not like Sora hasn’t done that a hundred times already.
It’s just missing the lightning bolts, and the shaking, and the purpleness, but just like in Opera Omnia, a random monster randomly comes out of it randomly.
It’s the Promised Land! I mean, this random quote above is right before the random nature scene below. Sherlotta was right, everything that must happen SHOULD happen, so why did you beat up all those fate ghosts, Cloud?
I was born with Black Moon Lilith and the Moon conjunct my Ascendant in Virgo alongside the South Node and my Sun conjunct Pluto in Scorpio, and this is basically what I imagine it being like. This also looks like that meteor Sköll summons in the KH 3 Frozen boss fight, which causes black rain and Sköll fate ghosts to appear.
Neither Sephiroth nor Jenova were involved in that boss fight.
The new Grand Theft Auto is a tad less realistic not Kingdom Hearts 4.
They’re really going deep with the “changing worlds” thing already. When Forspoken’s first trailer came out, I couldn’t help but immediately connect it to the first Unreal 5 trailer involving yet another Terra knock-off...and FF7 Remake itself.
I don’t get it, it just seems too convenient that everything makes sense. I don’t want to assume anything will happen in Kingdom Hearts 4, but since I just posted something about Elsa from KH3 being a hint about Terra Branford, I believe she’ll end up in KH4, and this whole storyline about “being in another world and going to another one” will tie-in to her.
The reason why all these Isekai stories are being released is because of what’ll happen in the FF7 Remake. Maybe they want to make it seem “normal” before the “big one” happens? Maybe they just like putting these hints everywhere?
That’s all I’ll say about that for now.
