(In response to your recent post) You know, in fairness, Square Enix seems to pretty much treat any Final Fantasy game that's NOT FF7 like dirt. I do like FF7, but personally, my favorite game in the franchise is FF9 (although I'm currently still replaying FF8), and FF9 gets ignored more often than FF8 in some ways. Mainly: Rinoa finally got added to the DLC of Dissidia NT along with Locke Cole, but neither Garnet (Zidane's girlfriend) nor anyone else from FF9 got added to any of the spin-off games until Opera Omnia 🤷🏻‍♀️

I mean, Rinoa has fared slightly better than Garnet because at least Rinoa got to appear in a few spin-off games that aren't Opera Omnia or Record Keeper (where pretty much every single Final Fantasy character appeared in chibi form... man, I really miss DFFOO), but even then, Rinoa and Yuna didn't even get to reunite with Squall and Tidus, their goddamn boyfriends, in Dissidia NT... (sigh) 🤦🏻‍♀️

But back to my original point: I think it's more that Square just focuses on FF7 way too much, to the detriment of the other 15 main games and their fans (especially since, based on Reddit and Tumblr and YouTube, many fans want to see a Remake of FF6, FF8, and FF9, and are starting to get tired of the over-exposure that FF7 keeps receiving). I mean, Opera Omnia happened to close down its services literally the same day Rebirth was released. That is no coincidence. 😒

I agree with most of what you're saying here, but I think FF9 is getting more attention from Square-Enix (the collabs with War of the Visions, Ever Crisis, and now the FF9 collectibles being included with the collector's edition of the FF14 Dawntrail expansion) than FF8 these days, because based on all the countless rumors floating around all over the place, it's the next game on the docket to get remade. There's nothing like that being said about FF8, just absolute radio silence in regards to it.

I think Square-Enix has made it perfectly clear that FF8 fans come last on their list of priorities. They simply have written us all off.

Fun fact: there is official art, by Nomura himself, wherein Sephiroth has red eyes.

The packaging and the disc for the Square Millennium Collection edition of Ehrgeiz: God Bless The Ring, a PS1 fighting game wherein Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, and Vincent were all featured as guest characters. This is from three years after the initial release of the OG and this art was created exclusively for this collection, so it's not an early draft or anything. Official art!

This was the first instance of FF7 characters appearing outside their own universe; the lore literally says that they were pulled through a dimensional vortex, if I recall correctly? This may be an early inspiration for the crossover concept behind both Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts.

Ehrgeiz was a multiplayer game, so if two players chose the same character, it did some...interesting things.

Sephiroth - Player 1: standard OG Seph with his trademark leather coat; - Player 2: topless end-of-OG Sephiroth.

Tifa - Player 1: OG Tifa; - Player 2: Amano Tifa, red gloves and all.

Vincent - Player 1: classic Vincent, with the red cloak and headband; - Player 2: Turk Vincent, making this the only time that Turk Vincent was playable until the tutorial level in Dirge or the introduction of the Turk skin in DFFOO.

Cloud - Player 1: classic OG Cloud; - Player 2: Zack.

The Square Millennium Collection edition came with a diorama figurine set featuring OG Vincent and Turk Vincent facing off against each other:

This was my white whale of Vincent merch until my bestie Jess somehow located and acquired one for my birthday in 2021.

I do not understand the marketing choices at play here, because Ehrgeiz had its own cast of original characters and an actual storyline, but this extremely limited collector's edition is 100% FF7 themed. Very weird.

I actually really like the idea of his eyes being of a similar color to that at birth, turning blue after his earliest mako infusion. Before that (and regardless of who his father is), he had Vincent's eyes. Frame that however you want, whether hereditary or Hojo (and Lucrecia) being haunted by a strange coincidental resemblance out of their control.
