What is Discovery+? What are their contents?

Discovery+ (Discovery Plus) is an online streaming platform. Discovery Inc. It offers an online digital content publishing service developed and commissioned by

Discovery is a paid online streaming platform serving on a monthly subscription basis. Discovery Inc. It is a streaming service that brings together the contents of channels and broadcasting platforms and broadcasts original series and programs.

Discovery+ history

Discovery+ content platform launched in 2020. It was put into service for the first time in the Indian market. Before the end of 2020 , it revised its Dplay service , which serves the European continent  , and put it into service in Europe with the “Discovery+” brand. Discovery+ debuted in the US in early 2021.

It has grown in a short time in the global market. In August 2021, it managed to exceed 18 million subscribers. The service was launched in Canada in October 2021. Discovery Inc. has published a program regarding the countries where Discovery+ will be put into service in the global market.

The company works with publishing partners for different regions and countries. As of May 2021, Discovery+  entered the Turkish market in partnership with BluTV .

Discovery+  can be accessed via web browsers on Windows ,  MacOS and  Linux operating systems. It also has mobile support/compatibility. There is a Discovery+ application developed specifically for Android and  iOS mobile operating systems. Also available on digital media player platforms. It is also available on Xbox One and  Xbox Series game consoles.

What are Discovery+ contents?

Discovery+ platform contents consist of original series and programs. In addition, within the body of Discovery Inc.; Content on “ TLC ”, “DMAX”, “ID”, “Discovery Science”, “Discovery Channel”, “Travel Channel”, “Animal Planet”, “Investigation Discovery” channels can also be accessed. It also features broadcast streams on “HGTV”, “Food Network”, “Asian Food Network” channels.

Discovery+ also includes the current content of broadcast partners based on country and region on the platform. Therefore, there may be different content depending on the country/region coverage of Discovery+. For example, in the USA , there is a special license agreement between Discovery+ and  A&E Networks . Within the scope of this agreement, there are programs from the “Lifetime” and “History” channel contents. These programs are not included in the flow of other country/region coverages.

Discovery+ Eurosport deal

Discovery+  has signed an agreement with Eurosport for the European market . Channels and sports content on Eurosport networks can be watched on Discovery+ platforms in European countries.

Discovery+ Turkey

Discovery+, which entered the global market gradually, also entered the Turkish market in May 2021. Discovery+ has agreed with BluTV as a broadcast partner in Turkey. For this, Discovery company bought 35% of BluTV’s shares. 

After the purchase, the contents of both digital broadcasting platforms were brought together. Discovery+ content is broadcast on BluTV. In addition, original content from BluTV is also broadcast on Discovery+’s platforms in other regions.

(Los Angeles Times) — SAG-AFTRA’s national board of directors on Thursday voted unanimously to approve a strike action by tens of thousands of Hollywood actors, widening the scope of labor unrest in an entertainment industry that is already facing numerous headwinds.

The vote came after negotiations between the actors’ union and the major studios failed to reach an agreement on a new film and TV contract.

Actors — similarly to screenwriters already on picket lines — have been battling studios for a pact that would deliver far better pay and residuals from streaming and address other issues, including the use of artificial intelligence, that have been roiling the entertainment landscape.

Despite the last-minute involvement of a federal mediator, the 160,000-member union was unable to secure a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents studios in labor dealings. The old collective bargaining agreement expired Wednesday night without a deal in place.

Union leaders announced the board’s vote at a noon news conference in Los Angeles.

“What is happening to us is happening to all fields of labor,” SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said during a fiery speech at the union’s headquarters. “I’m shocked by the way the people we have been in business with are treating us. It is disgusting. Shame on them.”

“We are the victims here,” Drescher added. “We are being victimized by a very greedy entity.”

So, some clarification. This strike covers all movie and TV projects that involve actors and voiceover announcers. This includes animated works. TL;DR: the main concerns are over residuals from streaming services (who are black holes of information that do not release viewership data so as to maintain complete leverage in contract negotiations) and the potential for AI. Unlike the writers, the actors are also trying to require all auditions to be in-person (one lasting impact of COVID is the larger adoption of taped auditions, which does not guarantee that the casting director watches the audition and also deprives the actor of networking opportunities even if they don't pass the audition). These concerns are almost identical - with exception of the in-person auditions - of the Writers Guild of America's (WGA) concerns with their respective strike.

This strike indirectly affects SAG-AFTRA members in radio, audiobooks, non-AMPTP studio video games and interactive media, music, and commercials.

This strike does not cover local news reporters and announcers for AMPTP constituent-owned radio and TV stations (full list here... e.g. every major local English- and Spanish-language channel in Greater LA and both PBS stations in KOCE and KCET). Yes, news reporters and announcers working for a stations owned by an AMPTP constituent are SAG-AFTRA members. They are covered by a separate contract.

Here are my future projects for Boomerang, Amazon Prime Video, Discovery Family & Max (streaming service) between early 2025 & late 2026.

1. Dexter’s Laboratory Season 5 (new characters being developed for Season 5 after 22 episode scripts)

2. A 2D animated direct-to-DVD & Blu-ray movie about child rights narrated by Dexter from Dexter’s Lab co-produced with UNICEF.

3. A Saturday morning cartoon based on a popular sitcom of the 1990s & the 2000s, Friends by Marta Kauffman & David Crane. The 6 main characters will be in their preteens years (ages 10 to 12) set in Central Perk & the art style will be inspired by Genndy Tartakovsky & Chris Savino in the late 1990s & the early 2000s days of Cartoon Network originals.

4. A Cartoon Network crossover show with the 2 main stars of Dexter’s Laboratory, Dexter & Dee Dee similar to the Hanna-Barbera crossover shows of the 1970s & the 1980s led by Yogi Bear.

5. A documentary style animated show about 6 preteen girls which will be a spin-off of Dexter’s Lab as the characters will be modeled after Dee Dee, Dexter’s sister.

6. A Saturday morning cartoon based on an another popular sitcom, The Big Bang Theory by Chuck Lorre & Bill Prady. The main characters will be in their preteens years (ages 10 to 12) set in Pasadena, California during the events of Young Sheldon & the art style will be inspired by Genndy Tartakovsky, Craig McCracken & Chris Savino in the late 1990s & in the early 2000s days of Cartoon Network originals, similar to the animated Friends spin-off I’ll be developing.

7. An untitled 2D animated Dexter direct-to-DVD & Blu-ray movie with Dee Dee combining the use of Flash animation & 3D cel shaded CGI.

Note: The new characters I’ll be developing will be inspired by Genndy Tartakovsky & Craig McCracken & not Pendleton Ward & J. G. Quintel.

Good news. After being on the backburner for so long thanks to Zaslav, Merry Little Batman and Urkel Saves Santa are finally getting releases with the former on Amazon Prime and the latter on a Warner Bros digital release. Thoughts that they're finally getting released, and how do they look so far based on their trailers?

I'd seen the trailer for the former, the latter i'm glad to know about. On finally getting released: I'm SO happy and i'm hoping this spreads to other projects he's written off... and i'd love for someone to pick up close enough. Amazon please buy close enough I would watch it more than enough to justify your metrics. As for how the films look Merry Little Batman looks INCREDIBLE. WHile I was iffy on the premise, it looks like a fun, wholesome and entirely unique take on Bruce and Damien, with batman being far more jolly and far more present as a dad, and Damien acting more like a kid. The design work is also really fun.

As for Urkel Saves Santa I had pretty low expectations, but it looks decent. The concept isnt bad. My only real complaint is not getting Reginald Vel Johnson back. I mean Urkel can work in a vaccum but he and the big guy were a duo. You don't even have to have it in the same continuity of family matters, as this film dosen't seem to be. Just have carl be the town cop or something. I miss my boy. Invincible just does not use him enough, which is fair he's mostly there to make the principal winslow gag even better, but I still want more Reginald Vel Johnson. Otherwise it looks way better than I would've expected.

there was, at the time of edwin's birth, a national panic about the decline of masculinity in the UK. there was an idea that the uncontrollable sexual appetites of gay men would erode the moral foundation of the country and destroy it.

gay men, especially effeminate gay men, were seen as morally insane, degenerate, and as sexual criminals on par with child abusers. being gay was a criminal offense seen as contributing to social collapse. it was further criminalized under the labouchere amendment in 1885. gay sex was banned, but so was something as innocent as kissing. even, in some cases, just smiling or talking to other men in places suspected of being gay hotspots could be punished with imprisonment and hard labor.

edwin was born about 5 years after oscar wilde was imprisoned for "gross indecency" with other men, and about 50 years BEFORE alan turing was chemically castrated for the same crime. following wilde's highly publicized prosecution, there emerged a culture of hunting down, ratting out, and blackmailing gay men under threat of arrest. i'd go so far as to say edwin was becoming a teenager at the HEIGHT of the gay panic that emerged after wilde's trial - arrest rates had ballooned by 1912, and edwin was in school from 1913 to 1916.
