My Adventure 02 Epilogue Evolution Lines ~ Part 1

Part 2

Ever since I saw the Epilogue as a kid, I've always wondered what adventures the next generation of Digidestined would partake in. And I never understood the backlash the Epilogue received in regards to the kids having the same baby Digimon as their parents.

Thus, the WIPs were born.

My original next generation WIP idea catered more to my personal interests and what I shipped (Taiora, Mimato, Daikari) but my second WIP idea (the one I'll be talking about here) is much more canon adjacent. This second idea originally stemmed from myself challenging myself as to how I could mould the canon into my liking without entirely rewriting it.

While many of my original digivolution ideas were practically copycats of their parents, I'm much more satisfied with the evolutions I've come up with now. Many of which were inspired by YouTuber Karn EX's video, "What Would Their Partner DIGIVOLUTUONS Be? | Digimon Adventure 02 Epilogue Kids". And while they did a great job with making that video, there were a few digivolutions that I wasn't satisfied with.

When it came to coming up with digivolutions, I wanted them to be inspired by their parents without exactly mirroring the Digimon partners of their parents. At the same time, I wanted some of the Digivolutions to call back to Adventure and Adventure 02.

So for part 1, I'll be discussing the digivolutions for my WIP, Digimon Adventure 03: Inheritance, for the kids of the Adventure cast (minus TK and Kari).

First up, the son of Tai and Meiko:

Koromon -> Agumon -> Tyrannomon -> MetalTyrannomon -> RustTyrannomom

While there are other options for Rookie Digimon for Makoto (the name I gave him) to have, 1.) Agumon is too iconic and 2.) there's a specific story reason as to why Makoto and Tai share the same Rookie. Tai being the leader of the Adventure cast, and one of the two partners of Omnimon, on top of being a decorated Special Agent in Charge for the National Data Processing Bureau after retiring from his professional soccer career has made quite a name for himself. And Makoto silently struggles with living the shadows of his father's spotlight in a world where Digimon and humans are living in harmony. Being a bit rebellious, he desperately hopes that whoever Koromon digivolves to, it won't be the same as Mr. Agumon's digivolution, and some doubt is cast in as Makoto's Koromon becomes an Agumon.

Initially, I had the Digivolution as Agumon, to GeoGreymon, to RizeGreymon, then to VictoryGreymon. And while I do love that evolution line, it felt lazy. Thanks to Karn EX, I realized Tyrannomon made a great replacement, while also subtly calling back to the battle between Tyrannomon and Greymon in Adventure, as well as the DarkTyrannomon that Togemon fought before digivolving into Lilymon for the first time. MetalTyrannomon is pretty similar to MetalGreymon without being a complete copycat. However for the mega, I decided to stick with RustTyrannomon instead of Machinedramon.

I also have a secret dark evolution line, for when the plot really gets going, but I won't spoil that just yet.

Next, are the children of Matt and Sora:

Left: Yokomon -> Pomumon -> Parasaurmon -> Toropiamon -> Ceresmon

Right: Tsunomon -> Elecmon -> Leomon -> SaberLeomon -> DinoTigermon

For Mizuki (their daughter), I initially wanted Pomumon as the Rookie as displayed above, with Ornismon being the Mega. Being a huge, blue bird calls back to her mother's partner, Biyomon with her father's partner's, Gabumon's, color scheme. I struggled with finding a champion and ultimate stage to fill in the blanks so I figured I'd lean more into the plant dinosaur aspect of Pomumon for the digivolution. Plus, Sora saved a Pomumon in Digimon Adventure 2020, so that's a nice callback as well.

The idea for Shinji's (their son, and no, I promise not all of the names follow this similar naming convention) partner's digivolution came from Karn EX, however, they had intended it for Yokomon. I felt Tsunomon into Elecmon made more sense than Yokomon into Elecmon. Elecmon somewhat resembles Gabumon with similar blue stripes, and despite being different mammals, Garurumon, WereGarurumon, and MetalGarurumon look very similar to Leomon, SaberLeomon, and DinoTigermon, but red, which is Sora's signature color.

Also, with Pomumon turning into a dinosaur while Elecmon eventually transforms into a saber tooth tiger gives the siblings a nice, fossil, extinct animal theme with their Digimon as well lmao.

Izzy and Mimi:

Left: Motimon -> Kokabuterimon -> Searchmon -> Kongoumon -> Shivamon

Right: Tanemon -> Aruraumon -> Togemon -> Ajatarmon -> BloomLordmon

So, they didn't originally end up together, and had children with other people but by the beginning of the WIP, they're happily married (it'll be explained in another post) so Umeko (Izzy's daughter) and Akihiko (Mimi's son) are siblings now, which is why they're being group together like Mizuki and Shinji lmao.

Karn EX had introduced me to Kokabuterimon from another video of theirs, so from there, I did some digging and found Searchmon and Kongoumon. Yes, they're both armor digivolutions but I think I'm allowed a few creative liberties. Searchmon being an Armor Digivolution is hardly a problem for me, no one from the Adventure 02 ever had a Searchmon, and Armor Digivolutions were seen as on par with regular Champion level Digimon. Plus, Chuumon from the 2020 remake was seen digivolving into Searchmon naturally without an Armor Digivolution, so who's to say Kokabuterimon can't as well? Kongoumon is a bit trickier, quite a few games have changed Kongoumon's level, but one game did list Kongoumon as an Ultimate, so that's good enough for me (if Digimon can change certain mon's levels to their convenience, so can I. And apparently, SaberLeomon is a Mega and was only listed as Ultimate in a specific video game...oh well, lmao.).

I won't lie to you, seeing BloomLordmon as a Mega for Mimi's son really inspired me to try to find other Megas just as cool for the others. And while I did, BloomLord and the digivolution associated with him is my all time favorite. I also loved Ajatarmon but I wasn't fond of Mushroom and Woodmon, so I needed to find a starting point. Then, I remember my OG Wip, which included a Mimato daughter who had a Aruraumon as a Rookie. All I needed then was a Champion. I saw a post on Reddit with Shurimon listed as the Champion. And while that fits PERFECTLY, I couldn't. 1.) Shurimon had been used by a previous Digidestined and 2.) Shurimon wasn't partnered with Mimi, which would've been the only excuse I could give myself for using it (sure Shurimon comes from Digi-egg of Sincerity, but using Shurimon with that excuse is a stretch). Incorporating Togemon into the digivolution (which is the only instance of a kid sharing a Champion with their Digidestined parent) is not only fitting but shows just how fluid digivolutions can be.

And finally, Joe's son:

Bukamon -> Syakomon -> Shellmom -> WaruSeadramon -> Gigaseadramon

Originally, I was gonna give Yuji a Gomamon. But then, I came up with this.

Hear me out, lmao. It's a little all over the place, but for starters, there aren't as many of a variety of aquatic Digimon, specifically, aquatic Digimon that can dwell on land as well. And Gomamon doesn't seem to have a variety of options other than Ikkakumon or Dolphmon.

I came across Syakomon for another post I made on assigning Digimon partners to Descendants characters, and I felt Syakomon was a great starting point. Shellmon and WaruSeadramon share a similar color palette, and given that Yuji will bear the Crest of Adaptability, WaruSeadramon to Gigaseadramon makes perfect sense. Apparently, other Digimon digivolve into WaruSeadramon in wickedness from what I've researched, but we can skip over that, right? Honestly, I might have a solution for it if I need one, considering I already have Makoto and another next gen Digidestined going through dark digivolutions for plot reasons.

Next part will include the children of T.K, Kari, Davis, Cody, and Ken and Yolei.

Digimon: Dark Spore children's partner lines

The Digimon Adventure universe is so open for stories and possibilities that it's fun to speculate about many of the minor characters we see, like the international chosen children and the Dark Spore children from 02. Digimon youtuber Karn EX made a video speculating on the possible evolution lines of all the international chosen children we see in 02's Digimon world tour arc and elsewhere in the franchise. While he did not cover the lines of the partners of the Dark Spore children from the end of 02, he did note that the partner Digimon they got were all the same baby forms as the original Adventure children's partners and this was likely not a coincidence. I also think that this was intentional and that the Dark Spore children's partners should parallel the evolution lines of the Adventure partners. So I'm going to speculate on what their evolution lines could be.

Something to note is that there are 20 Dark Spore children but I'm only going to go over 8 evolution lines to parallel the 8 Adventure partners. I'm also not limiting myself to Digimon available at the time the 02 finale aired. If we ever get some follow-up on the Dark Spore kids in official media, it will be something new with plenty of access to newer Digimon.

The Dark Spore kid who gets the most spotlight in the show is Noriko Kawada, who is partnered with a Punimon. This makes her a counterpart to Matt/Yamato of the original crew and if there was a Dark Spore spin-off or sequel, I think she would be the group leader. There are black variants of the entire Gabumon line, but that's a bit boring so instead she can have Psychemon as her partner. It's a fun Gabumon variant that kind of matches Noriko's color scheme in that they both have a lot of pink. From there, I think a great Champion/Adult level is Fangmon. Fangmon being a more evil and violent counterpart to Garurumon (and more interesting than Garurumon black or Gururumon) would be great. Maybe Noriko could use her knowledge of how to deal with the Dark Spore's darkness could help teach her partner to control the violent imposes that come from being a Fangmon. For the Ultimate/Perfect level I think Astamon works. Psychemon -> Astamon has precedent in the franchise and Astamon matches WereGarurumon as the bipedal, pants-wearing member of the evolution line. For the Mega/Ultimate I picked DinoTigermon. It matches MetalGarurumon in that it goes back to being a quadruped and gains mechanical elements. It is a cat and not a wolf, but Astamon kind of has some saber-toothed cat elements with the shape of it's hair so I'm ok with it as the through line between wolf and saber-toothed cat. I think that Noriko and her partner should also be able to unlock a branched evolution at this level to MetalGarurumon black. You can probably see where I'm going with this.

Another named Dark Spore kid is Takashi Yoshizawa, who has a Poyomon. This makes him the counterpart to T.K./Takeru. They even have similar names. Patamon has two good parallels: Tsukaimon and DemiDevimon/PicoDevimon. I went back and fourth before deciding to give him DemiDevimon as it more closely fits the Angemon/Devimon rivalry. I'll use Tsukaimon later, though. From there is the fairly standard line of Devimon to NeoDevimon to DoneDevimon as the intended parallel to T.K.'s Angemon, MagnaAngemon, and Seraphimon. A heroic Devimon is fun to imagine and could create some unique stories with T.K. If you don't want to use the Devimon line because you see them as too evil or don't want to reuse major villains then an alternate could be Devidramon to Baalmon to Beelzemon.

Next up is Keiko Kurata who gets YukimiBotamon, making her a parallel to (Hi)Kari. For her rookie I will be using Tsukaimon. while it's not a direct parallel, there isn't a Salamon/Plotmon variant and Tsukaimon still lets me represent the connection between Patamon and Gatomon/Tailmon. From there, Tsukaimon will evolve to BlackGatomon/BlackTailmon. Maybe this could be its default level like Kari's partner. The next level will of course be LadyDevimon to parallel Angewomon. A heroic LadyDevimon could be a lot of fun alongside Angewomon and they could even become Mastemon in a story. (Hi)Kari is the only one of the original 8 to get a branched evolution path at the Mega/Ultimate level, getting both Magnadramon/Holydramon and Ophanimon as options. I'll also give Keiko's partner a branch with a humanoid and bestial option. The humanoid option will be Lilithmon, the dark counterpart to Ophanimon and the bestial option will be Ghoulmon/Deathmon as there aren't that many demonic dragons or beasts other than Megidramon, which I don't think fits very well.

The last of the named Dark Spore kids is Hiroshi Shibata, who gets Nyokimon, making him Sora's counterpart. His partner stumped me for a bit as there is no Biyomon/Piyomon variant and there just aren't many dark birds to choose from. I noticed that Sora's evolutions of Birdramon, Garudamon, and Hououmon are all based on mythical birds: the firebird, garuda, and hōō/fenghuang. So for Hiroshi's partner I dropped the bird theme in favor of keeping the winged mythical beast theme. The rookie is Tapirmon/Bakumon, which does not fit the theme but there is literally no other good option. At least it can levitate even if it doesn't have wings. From there it will evolve to Unimon, Hippogriffomon, and Gryphonmon, based on the pegasus, hippogriff, and griffon.

Enering the nameless Dark Spore kids we have a Pabumon to parallel Izzy/Koushiro's Tentomon. There aren't any Tentomon variants, but Kabuterimon is set up as the enemy of Kuwagamon. Therefore this line will go Kunemon, Kuwagamon, Okuwamon, and GranKuwagamon. A classic bug line.

Here I have to cheat as Joe/Jyou doesn't get a counterpart in the Dark Spore kids as his Fresh/Baby 1 form, Pichimon, does not show up among the partners at the end, so something else will have to act as the Bukamon pre-evo. Again, there is no Gomamon variant (I'm not counting x-antibody variants here) so it's time to get creative. I want a line that can work well in and out of water and keeps a consistent theme through, like Gomamon's seal/walrus theme. The line I picked starts with Crabmon/Ganimon and evolves to Ebidramon. Ebidramon being big and a bit goofy I think works to parallel Ikkakumon. The next stage will be Gusokumon, which shares some artificial traits with Zudomon. Zudomon carries a hammer and wears armor while Gusokumon is upgraded with mechanical parts. Sadly, there is no crustacean Mega/Ultimate level to pick from so the final stage will have to be Regalecusmon. It still kind of works, both lines ending with a humanoid warrior and Regalecusmon does use Ebidramon's claw as a shield.

The Yuramon parallels Mimi's Palmon and we finally have an actual variant to work with in the form of Alraumon, a darker Palmon. For the next level I picked RedVegiemon to parallel Togemon. They're both more monstrous and goofy evolutions of a cute little plant and use punches in battle. I picked RedVegiemon over Vegiemon and Weedmon as those two are supposed to be failed Digimon akin to Numemon while RedVegiemon is the complete and ripened form. For the Ultimate/Perfect level, Oleamon is perfect. It looks like a Lilymon with depression and it acts as a carnivorous flower. There's not a prefect Mega/Ultimate level as the only dark plants at that level don't fit, so I picked Lotusmon. That way there could be a hypothetical fusion with Mimi's Rosemon to get a Rafflesimon.

Finally we reach the Tai(chi) parallel with Botamon. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to Agumon variants. YukiAgumon, Agumon black, Agumon 2006, 2006 versions of Yuki and black, and three versions of ToyAgumon before even getting into x-antibodies or Agumon Hakase. Our Tai(chi) parallel will use Agumon black. Once again, there are black versions of the whole Agumon line, but that's a little boring. Instead, Agumon black will evolve to DarkTyrannomon. Tyrannomon was the original default evo for Agumon before Greymon stole the spotlight, so referencing it here with its dark variant works. From there it will become MetalTyrannomon and Samudramon/Gaioumon. This works as a great parallel, going from little dinosaur to big dinosaur to cyborg dinosaur to humanoid warrior dinosaur just like Agumon. Like with Noriko's partner above, this Tai parallel will get an alternate mega in the form of BlackWarGreymon. That way, the Dark Spore kids can have their own Omnimon/Omegamon in the form of Omegamon Zwart. And from there, just like all the original 8 can combine their power to become Omegamon Merciful Mode, all the dark spore kids can combine their power to become Omegamon Zwart Defeat.

Imagine a Fillmore! Digimon AU

Like not one where they have Digimon partners, that’d be cool too, but one where they are Digimon themselves. Yeah, imagine Fillmore and Ingrid investigating some case and finally finding out who the perp is, only for the perp to digivolve straight to Champion and now the two patrollers are running from the perp and not the other way around. 

It’d be an interesting ‘monster of the week’ kind of scenario because now instead of having to chase the perp all over the school, they have to find a way to either subdue the raging Champion as Rookie-level digimon or digivolve themselves.

I did have some Digimon forms/lines in mind for them:  

Fillmore - Elecmon (X-Antibody/Virus, due to his past delinquency issues being a major theme of the show) - Leomon - Saberleomon - Dinotigermon

that is a very hard question. in adventure, it jumps from champion to mega. now, there are a few option in more general media. Leomon can side evo into his x antibody form. it can also side evo into Madleomon. as ultimates, you have 2 major lines. you have the mecha adjacent, with Grapleomon, or the ice recolour, with Panjyamon.

Grapleomon then can evolve into Saberleomon or Heavyleomon.

Saberleomon can then evolve into Dinotigermon.

Somewhere there is also Bancholeomon, but that one usually just happens. (in the x brick i usually go leomon x -> cerberumon x -> sakuyamon x, so if you want to expand the search range a bit more, we can also do that)

I have decided that Leomon will be my companion digimon and the relationship between us is none of your business

Magia Records girl as Tamers! Featuring the apartment trio!

Leila: Veemon-Veedramon-Aeroveedramon-UlforceVeedramon. Plus more

Originally I only wanted Leila to have Flamedramon out of the veemon evolutions ,but after some thought I decided against it. I decided to keep the veemon and include it's original evolution plus it's armor as well! UiforceVeeDramon will be her strongest one ,but she likes to use different variety of evolutions. What Veemon evolves into is entirely up to the situation Leila found herself in.

Plus I believe the two would get along well enough! Despite Veemon's prankster personality, she's love it just as much! Plus Veemon would do a small happy dance each time it eats her food. It has as big as a sweet tooth as she does!

One thing they do together is bake! Veemon loves spending time with her and often helps out in the kitchen!

Veemon will not hesitate to tell someone off if someone takes advantage of Leila's kind nature. It'll fight them if Leila doesn't stop it from doing so. It doesn't care if it's caught in public either.

Mito: Elecmon-Leomon-Grapleomon-Saberleomon-Dinotigermon. Plus more

Leomon was the thing that came to mind for Mito! Don't worry! This one wouldn't die or will it...I'm only joking. Seriously tho with Leomon more serious personality and Mito's more layback, but cheerful personality...It's a good match! As an Elecmon, Mito loves to carry it around everywhere and it often pretends to be a plush. When it's a leomon, they'll carry her around a lot.

Dinotigermon is only used in emergency since her partner still has a tough time controlling their power. Saberleomon is usually the prefer stage for it to say in.

Their favorite past time? Go into the digital world and run to their hearts contents! Not only that, she loves to befriend all sorts of digimons! Some of them choose to join her team!

Seika: Gomamon-Ikkakumon-Zudomon-Plesiomon-Aegisdramon/ her Seadramon. Plus more

Staying close to canon, Seika has been a tamer the longest out of her best friends and met Gomamon by complete accident. While grieving the death of her friend, she came across an injury digimon and rescued it. Not without any issues of course, but I'll leave that for another time. Leila is still alive and Seika had something to do with her revival. How? I'll leave it up to your imagination for now. I'll do a more lore based post another time.

Anyways.. Why did I choose it for Seika? They're often seen as energetic and carefree or even mischievous. It contrasts to Seika's more shy and quiet personality. Her Gomamon would encourage her to talk to people more and tries everything it cans to help the girl overcome her social anxiety. If it becomes too much then Gomamon will not hesitate to do the talking for her. The two are insanely close and their favorite past time is Seika reading a book to it or even making up jokes together.

Gomamon is capable of evolving into Vikemon when needed ,but it prefer Plesiomon. Plus I feel like that one suits Seika more. Plesiomon can fuse with Seika's Seadramon to make Aegisdramon, making it one of her more stronger digimons.

Fun fact! All three of them share one same digimon and that's the Leomons! Each one of them has their own variant of it. Plus they share armor evolutions as well!

some bnha digimon lines

I recently got into bnha and I decided to make some Digimon lines for some of the characters, cause I find it fun. So I decided to do Class 1-A and a few teachers! Things to note with this are: I’m currently far from caught up and so for all I know something later in the series will make me rethink a line, I use multiple Virus types despite them being hero characters because I don’t think they should be off the table just cause Virus types are generally “evil”, I admittedly avoided using Digimon I personally don’t like cause I’m kinda biased, and I also like to make somewhat weird lines (some of these will look pretty standard but some others are just gonna be like… Uh, what?).

I will put more pressing notes underneath a characters line if I think it’s needed, but otherwise I won’t really comment on any of the lines. If you’re curious about why I chose a certain line, other Digimon I considered, or even headcanons I have about certain characters and the Digimon I gave them feel free to send me an ask though!

The form the Digimon is usually in when nothing’s going on is italicized (ex: Agumon would be italicized for Taichi’s partner and Tailmon would be italicized for Hikari’s partner). If two levels are italicized, it means that they stay in both of those two levels casually.

Wounded Digimon become its prey. An ancient beast Digimon which was the sole Saber Leomon to survive the cyclic law of the jungle's unending battle, by taking in the earth's metal components so that its whole body underwent extreme ossification. Although its movements are slower compared to Saber Leomon's, it has physical strength and toughness nearly double that of the original, massive swordlike fangs, and thickly armored skin, all with which it forcefully kills Digimon. With such valor, Dinotigermon has a wild predation instinct that other Digimon fear, so they never come near to it. Its special attacks are "Ground Fang," pinning down the enemy to thrust and whet its fangs on them, and "Highland Fang" swinging down at them with its fangs from a high altitude and instantly tearing them to pieces.

Note that this Reference Book profile is worded somewhat differently from Dinotigermon's original virtual pet profile, but is identical to the lore given in Digimon Collectors and Digimon Fortune;
