So, earlier, I pointed out the card game having a lot of fun with recreating Masaru punching a Digimon. Well, it turns out, as of today’s card reveal, we now have the thrilling sequel to that in the form of his father Suguru’s card:

(By the way, his art very obviously is made to match with his son’s BT12 card, which is very cool.)

Like BT12 Masaru, Suguru has an effect that allows you to treat the card as a 3000 DP Digimon (which is basically just a game mechanic-compliant way of saying that the card can engage directly with Digimon on the field rather than providing only passive effects). Unlike Masaru, however, you can’t have him directly attack a Digimon. The effect activates when your opponent takes their turn, and the reason for this is that Suguru also has Blocker. Any Digimon with Blocker has the characteristic that if an attack from your opponent would hit Security (something you want to avoid, because the game win condition is destroying all of your opponent’s Security), the Digimon can redirect it to themself. Of course, most players are smart and won’t bother trying to hit Security when a Digimon with Blocker is on the field, so they’ll prioritize trying to clear it out first. And 3000 is a very low number (it’s basically equivalent to a high-tier Child or low-level Adult Digimon)...

So to put this in layman’s terms, the intended (and most likely) play with this card is:

Suguru is put out on the field

The combined number of Security cards for both opponents is 6 or below (i.e. even one hit to Security is going to be a pretty big deal)

During the opponent’s turn, they attack in a way that would normally hit Security

Suguru tanks the hit to prevent this and most likely dies

(By the way, the BanchouLeomon card that was revealed next to this has a condition that you can play a Yellow Tamer for free when your Security takes a hit. This can be any Yellow Tamer, but it’s obviously designed for you to use it with Suguru’s card, so in other words this card is definitely intended to be used to prevent a bad situation from getting worse.)
