"If you clear the dataset, it has no memory of the pieces it needs to generate new art." Stable Diffiusion used offline has no access to the dataset, yet it remembers how to make art. How do you explain this?
I am literally so tired of these supposed "gotcha" questions that I'm not going to be nice anymore.
If you believe a computer can create art without access to anything to help it make that art, you should not have access to this technology.
This answer took a while to get for you, because I assumed it was part of the black box computing model and I would actually need to do some research to find it.
But nope. It's actually part of the run instructions for the dataset. It's just right there.
I can only suppose you got bored of looking for it yourself after 6 seconds. I know this because you're too impatient to pick up a fucking pencil to learn how to draw, so you're also probably too impatient to do research. And just because you don't understand it, you think it's sparkly Disneyland magic.
WELL. Wonderful news. The answer is right in the instructions for running stability locally.
The instructions literally tell you to download the fucking 4gb data file. Like, if you're running this locally, you must have done this, right? Unless you're just parroting an argument you've heard someone else make, in which case: congratulations, you're an even bigger stain on society than I originally thought.
Evidence, with the meaty stuff blocked out so none of you fuckers try this:
Are you not aware that the scraped images are condensed into raw data, then into binary so they don't take up space? Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. Is this your big "Haha! COMPUTERS ACTUALLY DO THINK FOR THEMSELVES" argument? You are a discredit to your species. Never breed.
OF COURSE the data is there. If you don't download it, you can't generate art. Jesus christ. You aren't a toddler, and supposedly you have some modicum of the concept of object permanence.
And just so you can see how images are condensed after they're scraped, I made a cute little picture for you of what a scraped image looks like in the dataset:
Now fuck off.

Read that description of how it works carefully. Follow the link.
One of the ongoing frustrations of the AI discourse is the constant misinformation about how and why the tech works.
The blurring and artifacting is a side-effect of Artshield running your image through Stable Diffusion to implant a Stable Diffusion watermark onto your image. The idea is that your image will be recognized as AI and thus skipped by most scrapers that are on the lookout for that.
So, realistic expectations if you're using this software:
It utilizes Stable Diffiusion to do its thing. So once again we see that the issue of infringement is on output, not input.
This only protects against scraping done by groups concerned about AI in the dataset. The majority of those groups have already done their scraping. The chicken is already in the nugget.
This will not impact anyone wanting to make a custom LORA or a style prompting system.
Any AI art detector that looks for a Stable Diffusion watermark will indicate that your work is AI afterward because that's what this software does.
Essentially, all the reasons Glaze and Nightshade would be ineffective even if they worked as advertised are still here, only the effect is subtle enough that the presumption will be 'AI gen' rather than 'glazed pic' when something looking for that SD watermark pings on your work.
You can use it if you like, but you should be aware of the actual mechanics involved first.
Edited for tone, as the watermarking is merely understated, not omitted, in the original post.
ARTSHIELD
Putting out another resource for people if their PC is too old to glaze or do their work on mobile platforms
Artshield works by digitally watermarking your art into tricking AI scrapers into thinking its also AI and thus excluding it from the pool of sampled images. Granted it's methods are not as potent as nightshade or glaze, but its browser based and fast so you can have at least some protection on your art rather than none.
Example of an un-guarded picture
Same image put through Artshield.
See any differences? no? Thats because unlike glaze or nightshade the process is a lot more simplistic and changes the art in more subtle ways, while that makes the protection a bit thinner the artifacting is much less noticeable. but dont worry, its there!
as you can see theres blurring and artifacting on anything an AI might look for, such as lines, changes in color, and background patterns. While its not much out of JPEG compression, its more than posting your work without any protection due to PC limitations.
It sucks as artists we have to jump through such hoops to make sure our livelihoods aren't stolen but there is hope that tools are being made to keep us safe, showing there are those that still stand with us against the fight on AI.

Image Prompting
The top image was created by prompting Midjourney V4 with four images I had previously generated in midjourney. Image prompting is a fascinating feature, one that people more familiar with Stable Diffiusion might not know about.
Image prompting isn’t Img-to-Img, where a user-submitted image substitutes for random noise at the first stages of the process. Nor does it add the submitted image to the dataset. Instead, MJ’s image breaks the image down into the same token-language it translates the text requests into, essentially boiling the picture down into a phrase (or paragraph) that acts as part of the prompt.
This image prompt is then modified by the text prompt, or the other image prompts involved.
The advantage of image prompting is that many times it can circumvent the imprecision you get from the AI having to translate what your text prompt means. The disadvantage is the additional layers of imprecision added by the AI being free to focus on whatever concept is in the image that tickles its math.
Also, because its not using image data directly, input is translated through its understanding of things.
Midjourney Triceratops tend to look like Baragon (and v4 in general has a massive theropod bias I hope future updates tone down) Image prompting does not help this, since it can “see, for instance:
The racist triceratops dad from Land before time, go “yeah, that’s a cartoon triceratops, there’s a little dinosaur there, its around sundown, I know what all this looks like”
... and then draws it from memory, essentially re-enacting my 6th grade approach to art perfectly.
#midjourney#midjourney ai#nuts and bolts#how it works#image prompting#ai artwork#unreality#I chose the closest influence and output image on purpose for comparison reasons#most of the results for racist triceradad were actually dumber

Reminder: R.J. Palmer made his work doing realistic pokemon fan-art. To this day most of his portfolio is fan-art of projects he has not worked on, not much original character design or concept work.
He had no problem reinterpreting the copyrighted work of other artists to produce new novel works of his own when it's him.
But there's more. Copyright protecting characters and character designs has been established legal precedent for more than half a century. Without fair use, Nintendo or the Pokemon could have smashed him down with the hammer of the courts at any time. Changes are they'd have won if they'd chosen to do so, even with fair use.
Every path to using copyright to attack generative AI damages fair use and aids in regulatory capture of the tech by the established entertainment and software conglomerates.
If the concern is loss of labor opportunity, you can't do that by declaring that fair use doesn't apply to training. Disney has all the art they need to train a bot of Stable Diffiusion/Midjourney caliber and area already working on it.
But hey, what does he care if the ladder gets kicked away, though? He's already climbed it.
look at my art community backsliding into "references are plagiarism" like it's the dark ages of deviantart bro we are never going to be free

TERMINOLOGY OF LIGHT
DIFFIUSION
It’s the action of spreading light from a light source evenly so as to reduce glare and harsh shadows.
Diffusion of light causes the scattered light to fall onto a subject evenly distributed. Light can be diffused naturally through clouds or artificially through glass.
DIRECT LIGHT
Direct light flies straight from the light source to the subject. Direct light typically creates shadows with high contrast and hard edges. Sunlight on a clear day is direct light. Light from an on-camera flash can also be direct light. Direct light is a stream of light that is unobstructed.
TRANSMISSION
Transmission is when when light travels through a medium such as glass without being reflected absorbed or scattered. When this happens light energy is not lost and can be considered 100% transmitted.
Transmission of light is the moving of electromagnetic waves through a material, transmission can be reduced or stopped when light is reflected off the surface or absorbed by a molecule.
REFLECTION
Reflection is when light bounces off an object or surface. Reflected light bounces off of an opaque surface before it hits the subject. Sunlight bouncing off the concrete wall of a building is reflected light. Sunlight bouncing off of clouds can create reflected light. Photographers can use white foam core panels or fabric reflectors in a variety of colours to bounce light. Hotshoe-mounted flashes often have the ability to tilt and pan so that the flash can be bounced off a nearby wall or ceiling. Like diffused light, reflected light is softer than direct light.
DIFFUSE REFLECTION
Diffuse reflection is the reflection of light from a surface such that an incident ray is reflected at many angles, rather than at just one angle. This occurs when the incident ray of light hits a rough surface or object and the light splits off in many directions.
DIFFUSE TRANSMISSION
Diffuse transmission is the scattering of light passing through a translucent material. This is because they always absorb some of the light and reflect some of the light, in addition to transmitting it. Absorption and reflection are both more major influences on photographic lighting.

Alternative medicine, esp in the debased modern form that diffiuse expresses concerns about “toxins”, and which is used to support anti-vaxxers, is ultimately reactionary--even fascist--because it invites us to view our bodies once again as a thing capable of being pure or impure (and thus a microcosm of the nation, which in far-right thought is conceived of as a body; this is not a coincidence), as health being the site of moral struggle, and failure to achieve success through the rites and rituals prescribed as a kind of failure of spirit or imagination. A prescriptivist view of the body: this is how it should work, and if it does not, the failure is yours. In contrast, mainstream medicine, by viewing health and the body as a straightforward mechanistic process, is socially liberal and anti-mystical and therefore democratic, egalitarian, and progressive: a descriptivist view of the body, this is how it does work, and those are the constraints within which we must operate. The strain of “leftist” thought that seeks out alternative medicine--and is really just those whose desire for moral purity means they have been swayed by some of the object-level concerns of the left, while remaining deeply authoritarian at heart--yearns to recapitulate in the body what paranoid right-wing survivalists enact in the hills of Montana: anti-authoritarianism that is anti-authoritarian, not out of a desire for freedom, but because corruption and decadence means authority can no longer purge the body/nation of impurities. Just as sooner or later fascist obsessions with purity turn inward, and exercise themselves on the body, sooner or later alternative medicine obsessions with purity turn outward, and seek to purge and refashion society. This is why middle-class leftists who are enamored of homeopathy will never support true school integration, or comprehensive anti-poverty programs, or less punitive drug laws, and why practitioners of alternative medicine as a class, like homeopaths and chiropractors, seem to seek always to professionalize themselves--that is, to align themselves with Authority (which as a concept they are still deeply sympathetic to, even if its current incarnation is flawed), rather than to really be what they claim to be, i.e., an anti-hegemonic countercultural impulse.

I personally wouldn't diffiuse them. Aromatherapy is not my area of study and as it's not needed medicinally, I haven't done it. You *can* do damage to your lungs by breathing in chemicals.
The bottom line is that essential oils are medicine. They aren't flavor or scent oils. And you can do a lot of harm using them the way the companies who want to sell them to you tell you to. Like, are we surprised a company that sells them is always coming up with new ways to use them?
If you'd like to use them, seek out a certified aromatherapist (NOT someone who works for an mlm company like yl or dt). Otherwise consider using something actually intended for inhalation.
YOU CANNOT BE FEEDING THESE TO PEOPLE OMG 🤦🏽♀️
The horror I just came across on my ig 😷

Conclusion
This project I decided to focus on a brand that I really enjoy, so that I could get really passionate about the images that I was taking. My chosen brand was Converse, they have been one of my favourite shoe brands for years, so I felt that I knew the brand and its values qyite well already, which would make my research stronger. My main inspirations for this project was the ASOS website photos and the drawing style advert. The drawn advert for Converse was the whole inspiration behind my Polaroid style image, I love Polaroids so I was really passionate about getting it right, it made me a lot more creative with my ideas and led to me thinking outside of what I what usually do. ASOS helped me a lot with composition, it made me think of balancing the shoes in all sorts of different ways so that I could show the shoe in different angles. It also showed me how important that the background is, which led to me thinking carefully about what the background would be for each of my images, I decided that yellow paper would complient the old effect of my Polaroid style image and the white background would keep my second image crisp and in a seperate style from the first.
I think that out of all my current projects to date, this one has been my fabourite since it was my most successful. The shoots went really smooth, I was a lot more confident about my lighting set ups since I had experimented with them in part one. My research also felt strong as well because I also had product research from the first project playing into my ideas for this one, I had a really clear idea of what I wanted to do and I managed to execute it well.
The equipment I used for this shoot was 2 softboxes, lightting, a tripid and a camera, the set uo was really simple but it worked perfectly for my images, I didn’t want harsh lighting, so I thought the soft box would diffiuse it nicely. I did a lot to edit my first image, getting exactly the right look was really important to me since I had a vision of what I wanted it to be, which is what I achieved. I’m happy I used a vigentte in my photo, it isn’t something I would usually use, neither would I use a lght room filter but it was exactly what the image needed. The vigentte helped make the image and the border fit in together, since before I added that it looked too clean cut, which wasn’t the style that I was going for. The Polarioid effect made it look like an actual Polaroid, it didn’t look all cut together, everuthing tied in. I chose to add font and logos to both of my images to show them what they would look like if they were used as actual adverts, I wanted typography style font since it is quite girly and the audience for my adverts were based at women due to the style of the shoes. It also tied in with the Polaroid style of the frirst image perfectly.
My strengths for this project was my passion for the product, I really enjoyed looking for inspiration and putting together ideas so I feel that made my images stronger. Another strength was thinking outside of what I normally do, I moved away from my usual style into something I really like, I felt like these images held some of my personality and it helped me to start finding where I want to be as a photographer. My weaknesses were not doing more shoots, I would have loved to have done multiple shoots to refine my ideas to see where else they would take me, it’s frustrating to know that I could have developed my ideas further. If I was to do this project again, I would start it much earlier so I have more time for research and shoots and I would also look into bringing in other Converse products.
