AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 10
Wednesday, April 17, 2024
“In many ways, diagnosis saved my life. And it’s no secret that disabled people need diagnosis in order to access potentially life-saving resources. But we should be working to undermine a system which withholds and gatekeeps resources from those who need them, as well as undermining the neoliberal-esque ideologies which don’t necessarily consider the health of the population to be much of a priority. I was always going to seek a diagnosis because I know how nesessary and validating it can be, but my goal is a world where that doesn’t need to be the case.” – Ember Green, Misinfo, Diagnosis & Autism Advocacy ft. @YoSamdySam

When you take apart your bed to wash the sheets, and realize through folding the blankets and stacking the pillows that you have:
-2 queen/king size blankets
-7 large fleece/knit blankets
-7 throw blanket
-1 heated blanket
-2 body pillows
-7 standard/queen sized pillows
- and copious amounts of squishmallowd
And this beans, is where I realized, this is a nest.🪹
I sleep in a nest with a dedicated cat pillow.🐈🐈⬛

My latest article for CBC comedy drops monday. I am a writer with rituals I write in primary school black and white composition books with pens from the same store every time. I do not throw away my first drafts (or collateral garbage created in the process) despite the piece evolving way past it. As if I need the mould in place until the resin of thought sets. My latest piece has gone through a alot of edits and rewrites. Long nights doing everything to coax the sentences to reveal themselves. Only to cut a lot of them. That I reluctantly and simultaneously agreed had to go. I am normally a multi-tasker this one ate up my entire focus. I didn’t want to start anything until this was finished. Plans cancelled, shows, unattended. This one challenged me in a way that made me feel like I knew nothing. Then that beautiful moment when I read the draft that I had read too many times again and it finally felt right....and my editor agreed it was. It was finally safe to throw let go of all the collateral garbage. . . . . . #artsandculture #comedy #canadiancomedy #thesecondcity #comedy #cbccomedy #sketchcomedy #comedyhistory #comingsoon #toronto #martyyounge #compositionnotebook #differentbrains #rituals #martyyounge #youngemodernlaughs (at Papër) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5tTRogFFvy/?igshid=1oc1205i7kb5h

Your Bag Is Ugly
How do normal people choose handbags? Normal people, that have normal tastes. How do they determine one from the next?
The same goes with all clothes really. If everything is the same, how do you choose?
I saw on TV earlier that someone had bought a gift of a white handbag for their friend. Just a plain white handbag, and she said "it's so you, I knew you'd love it."
But how can a plain white handbag be specifically identified as being part of someone's style, when they are all the same?
I don't get it.

It's kind of fascinating to look at the scientific studies. In these, both neurotypicals and autistics go through a fMRI where they're asked a series of questions. Autistic brains light up differently in there. #colortheworld #differentbrain #differentworld Image description: Silhouette of a person with a multicolored brain featuring text reading "The autistic brain makes different links than a neurotypical" - - - #autism #autismperspective #autism #autismeducation #asd #actuallyautistic #autistic #inclusion #differentnotless #autismadvocate #spectrum #autismspectrum #autisticadult #instautism #instaasd #livinglife #livingautism #autismadvocacy

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 12
Wednesday, April 17, 2024
“You hear as autistics we make poor eye contact, we have difficulty socialising, which are both very pathologising ways of describing something that is inherently neutral. You could completely rewrite the neurotypical experience to be just as pathologised, if you wanted to. … ‘I’ve discovered this new condition – sorry, disorder – called “Neurotypical Spectrum Disorder”, and people who are suffering or afflicted with this disorder often have poor attention to detail. They might have an obsession with meaningless small talk, social status, and ritualistic exchange or social grooming. They may demonstrate a lack of interest in exploring their favourite topics deeply. They will take many activities at once, aka “multitasking”, at the expense of all of them. They have a linear thought process and inability to think outside of the box on a daily basis.'” – Samantha Stein, Autistic traits are HUMAN traits: depathologising the autistic

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 9
Wednesday, April 10, 2024
“Be careful NOT to say things like ‘if you would only apply yourself’ or ‘try harder next time’ or any comments that assume your loved one wasn’t already trying their hardest. (Because our best is all we can give, and being told our best isn’t good enough is demoralizing).” – Lyric Rivera, Could Your Child or Loved One be NeuroDivergent?

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 15
Wednesday, April 24, 2024
“I do genuinely wish and think all therapists should be Neurodiversity Affirming. I also recognize this has to begin at school. We need undergraduate and graduate level courses taught in ways that allow for learning about the Neurodiversity paradigm and movement. We need professors explaining the medical model of disability as well as other models such as the social model, human rights model, the holistic model by AutisticTic, the social relational model by Carol Thomas, etc. … We need therapists to be less Autistiphobic and actually learn how to best recognize and assess Autism – not even for diagnosis – just to best support Autistic people.” – AuDHD_Therapist, "Reasons your Therapist may not be Neurodiversity Affirming"

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 13
Wednesday, April 24, 2024
“Let’s become informed consumers and keep school professionals and private providers accountable for their work and how it affects autistic children’s mental health. Where do I stand? I am against ableist and abusive practices that harm ND children. I am not anti any specific professional field. I am for clinically informed, neurodiversity-affirming practices that are delivered with understanding of a specific condition, with clinical and developmental grounding, and with understanding of the child and the family.” – Yulika Forman, PhD, LMHC, "What Practices Are Abusive For Autistic Children?"

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 5
Wednesday, April 3, 2024
“The world has a fast-growing problematic disability, which forges bonds in families, causes people to communicate in direct and clear ways, cuts down meaningless social interaction, pushes people to the limit with learning about themselves, whilst making them work together to make a better world. It’s called Autism – and I can’t see anything wrong with it, can you? Boy I’m glad I also have this disability!” – Patrick Jasper Lee

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 14
Wednesday, April 24, 2024
“I feel like as an autistic person this is something which is massively misunderstood. When I need alone time, this isn’t because I don’t like the people I am around. Needing too much alone time can be incredibly frustrating too, I am constantly planning and considering my rest to ensure I don’t burn out.” – @Neurodivergent_Lou, "As an Autistic Person, I Often Need to be Alone… It doesn’t mean I don’t like you!"
