Just over a year ago I bingewatched Die Kaiserin on Netflix because I was bored, and I naively thought “I’ll be fine with historical inaccuracies, I don’t really care too much about these Habsburgs outside of the connection to Napoleon II”.

But then I got soooo fucking angry because not only did they make Sophie evil (she really wasn’t irl), but they introduced a “Sophie cheated on husband, illegitimate son bla bla bla” plotline… and it wasn’t even with Napoleon II? IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE MELODRAMATIC SOAP OPERA, YOU MIGHT AS WELL INCLUDE THE BLONDE TWINK DRAMA THAT AT LEAST POSSIBLY HAPPENED!!! DOES NETFLIX HATE TWINKS???? DOES NETFLIX HATE BEAUTY AND JOY AND EVERYTHING GOOD IN THE WORLD???!!!

Rewatching S1 of The Empress before I finally dive into S2, and istg, this is the shippiest damned show ever. I can make extremely compelling cases for at least 5 pairings without breaking a sweat. I think the main thing stopping me from writing fic is not being able to settle on which ship to start with.

(And the fact that the fandom seems so tiny. 😢 Seriously, how are there only something like a dozen fics? Sigh.)
