Aemond waited patiently in the Library. A plate of food and a cup was next to him and a book opened. Another plate was across from him as well as a cup. 
The doors pushed open and you came rushing in, starting one of the other maesters. You wore a vibrant violet dress that made Aemonds own violet eye widen. You looked absolutely gorgeous. And the ferronniere really tied it all together.
“Good morrow my prince, I’m sorry I’m late.” You say and pull a chair out and sit down.
“It's alright, and no need for formalities. You called me by my name all yesterday.” Aemond gave you a tiny smirk.
“Yes, but we were around people who don’t particularly care, here in the Keep it is best to keep up appearances.” You lifted your hands onto the table. “Can we eat? I'm hungry.” 
“No need to ask, my lady.” You didn’t have to get told twice as you grabbed the biscuit and took a bite. Aemond caught a glimpse of your hand and forearm and he shut the book. “What happened to you?” He pointed at your arms and you looked up at him.
“Oh, I'm alright, it's just me and Thea discovered how much cats don’t enjoy baths.” You laughed nervously.
“Your handmaiden could have done that for you.” He says bluntly. 
“It’s alright, I like getting my hands dirty.” 
“Hmm. I should get the maester to check them.” He pushes his chair back and you grab his wrist. 
“Nonsense, eat first.” He yanked his wrist out of your grip and you drew your hand back. 
“It can wait.” He walks past the table.
“No, it can’t, the first meal of the day is very important. Especially for a prince and swordsman such as yourself.” Aemond stopped in his tracks and his jaw tensed.
“They could get infected.” 
“I’ve been poisoned before, this is nothing.” Aemond turned around with a shocked look on his face. 
“Poisoned?” He sounded intrigued now.
“I can tell you about it if you sit back down and eat with me.” You fluttered your eyelashes at him and he sighed. Aemond made his way back around the table and sat down. He grabbed the grapes and popped two in his mouth. His actions satisfied you and you cut the sausages in pieces. “So when me and Deziel were younger, we snuck into the storage where they keep the poisons because we just wanted to see them, but Deziel being Deziel. He grabs manticore venom and the twat drops it on me. I scream and end up getting cut which lets the venom go into my body.” 
“How did your parents react?” You laughed and Aemond dipped his spoon into his oatmeal. 
“There was a panic, my body had already weakened by the time they retrieved the antidote. Deziel didn’t see the outside of his room for almost two months, my mother was so angry.” You hunched over in a laugh and Aemond let his face relax and smile. You had such a pretty laugh but then you stopped. Aemond’s eyebrow furrowed in confusion until he remembered.
“I'm sorry.” He says.
“It was a long time ago.” 
“And still fresh on your mind.” You huffed and leaned back.
“No need for all this sadness, this is about you so how is your morning so far?” Aemond took a sip of the contents of his cup.
“I trained with Ser Criston and visited Vhagar.”
“I’ve heard stories of how big she is.” Aemond watched a glint in your eye of interest.
“Would you like to see her?” You drew back and your eyes widened. 
“I don’t think that's wise.” He finished his last grapes and grabbed his spoon again. 
“And why's that, princess? Are you scared?” He looked at you mischievously and you frowned.
“Of course I'm scared, I've never seen a dragon, and what if she knows?” You pouted.
“Knows what?” You sighed.
“That I'm Dornish.” There was a pregnant pause between the two of you. Then you heard it. A tiny little giggle and Aemond’s shoulder moved up and down. You frowned and scoffed. “It's not funny.” Your face burnt in embarrassment.
“What do you think Vhagar would do if she sensed you were Dornish? Eat you?” He asks and you shrug.
“Maybe! Dragons are smart, she fought in two wars against Dorne! My people had killed her own sister in arms.” Aemond kept an amusing look. “You’re mean.” You flicked a blueberry at him, hitting him in the cheek. 
“How unladylike of you.” You rolled your eyes. “But at least you know your history.” 
“Did you think I was stupid?” You cock your head. 
“Not at all, but not many ladies pride themselves on learning these things.” 
“Well, there's not much to do on Dorne rather than watch people fight to the death, drink, fuck, and eat. So I have picked up a book and I did pay attention in my classes.” You swirled the contents in your cup and swung a leg over the other.  
“Mmm. You should join me for a ride on Vhagar.” Your eyes widened in fear. 
“M-Maybe another time.” 
“Suit yourself, but I will still send you the proper attire.”
“The riding I know of requires no attire.” You cross your arms and pretend to be annoyed. Aemond let out an airy chuckle.
“In due time princess.” 
“Cute. Eat your food Prince Aemond.”

Breakfast was long finished. In the time after, Aemond asked you about Dorne. He wanted to know about it from a native's perspective. He also found joy in hearing you talk. 
“As you know it's always hot but here?” You laughed. “I actually had to cover up pretty decently last night but the sheets were quite scratchy, I thought there was a manticore crawling on me.” 
“You weren’t scared?” 
“I know how to extract their venom so they’re really nothing.” 
“Is it true you coat your weapons in venom?” 
“Mhmm.” 
“How do you do that?”
“To collect the venom we use vials and to hold the creature we would hold them with a large set of tweezers and a small set for the actual venom. For a manticore, the small tweezer would hold the stinger of the tail and you would just squeeze. Then we kill whatever it is and eat it.” 
Aemond grimaced at that. 
“What? They’re good, you should try one.” He chuckles at that.
“I am sure I will be alright without it.” You put your elbow on the table and pointed a finger at him.
“You’re going to try one.” He gave you a mischievous smile.
“I'm not easily persuaded.”
“We will see about that. Is there anything else you would like to know about, my prince?” You ask and the tips of your shows push against his boots. 
“No, I'm sure I have enough information to start a book of my own.” He says with amusement and you scoff.
“Hey! You could have asked me to stop at any time.” 
“A simple tease, I enjoy hearing your voice.” 
“Fancy me already?” 
“Is that a crime?” You shook your head and smiled. The edges of Aemond’s mouth curved up and he looked down. 
“How do you feel about the night sky?” You leaned forward. 
“I think it’s beautiful, when I ride Vhagar at night I try to get as close as possible to the stars.” There was a glint in his eye the second he mentioned Vhagar. 
“I have a book about it in my room, come with me?” You asked and stood up. You held a hand out to him and he pushed his chair back. He walked around the table and he grabbed your hand.

The walk was short and no words were said between you too, but it was not awkward at all. Comforting even. 
You opened your chamber door and you let Aemonds hand go. He checked the hallways and when nobody passed he stepped through the door.  
You were already bending over to dig into a drawer. Aemond froze and his eye was trained on your ass. He was thankful he wasn’t like Aegon. 
“Here it is.” You hold up the brown book and show it to him.

“He has traveled all over the world, he has even gone to The Wall and he reported on these bright lights in the sky.”  You say when you open the book to one of your saved pages.
“Fascinating.” Aemond stepped next to you, with hands behind his back, and skimmed over the page you were at.
“He doesn’t know exactly what causes them but he does believe it's the work of the gods. Can you believe if the gods do create what's in the sky, that they share their beautiful creations with us?” You wouldn’t see the smile on Aemond’s face as he solely looked at you.
“I do and they might be too generous at times.” 
“Hmm, I think they give us what we need.” You looked up at him by tilting your head back slightly with a smile. Aemonds heart started racing and his cheeks dusted pink.
“We should continue this back in the library.” Aemond starts walking towards your door when a white fluff walks in front of him. She passed along his boots and slid down onto her side. He crouched down and gave the cat some scratches making her purr.
“Or your room.” The cat hissed at you, still very mad about the events of earlier. Aemond looked over his shoulder and his eyes were met with the diamond that was pierced into your belly button. What he would do to just run his tongue along it.
Fuck that stupid (beautiful) dress
He stood up to his full height so he could tower over you.
“If someone catches us-.” 
“We are a very anticipated betrothal amongst many. I’m sure they will be more happy that we are getting along than mad that we were alone together.” Aemond couldn’t help but agree. 
“Follow me.”

Aemond pushed the door open to his room and he stepped out of the way for you. You walked in and looked at all his furniture and all the paintings. 
“It's like everything I imagined. Dark but beautiful.”
“Hmm.” Aemond grabbed a book off his table and sat down in a chair and kicked his feet up on the small table. “Join me?” You gladly sat in the long chair next to his. 
“There is more Targaryen heraldry in your room than the rest of the keep.” The painting of a dragon setting ablaze to what seemed like Harrenhall caught your attention.
“That is what happens when the king grows ill and two devout members of the seven take over.” He cracked open his book. 
“How is the king? I have not seen him.” 
“Dying, slowly.” Aemond really should have said ‘too slowly’. 
“I can’t imagine wh-.”
“Not everyone has a relationship with their father as you do.” He cuts you off quickly. “A good one at least.” 
You decided not to push forward. 
“What are you reading?” 
“Political philosophy.” 
“Interesting.” You opened your book and kicked your flats off to lay down on the couch. A silence fell over, it was comfortable to an extent. There was a slight tension but you slowly forgot about it as you got deep into the book and your eyes slowly started to droop.

The book clattering on your chest made Aemond direct his attention to you. Book pages were folded on your chest. One hand on your chest and the other dangling. Your head was turned to the side and eyes shut. Aemond chuckled and stood up to a chest that held blankets. He grabbed the softest one and grabbed the book from your chest. It closed on the material of the dress and when he pulled it, the bottom of your breasts exposed themselves. 
“Fuck.” He turned away and his cock made a sudden throbbing sensation. Gods, he was acting like a boy again, the mere sight of a woman's body making him hard. He closed his eye and tried to think of anything else. 
He tossed the book on the table turned around and quickly splayed the blanket over your body. Aemond sat back in his chair and the material around his crotch down. Reading should make it go down.

You slept until the sun was almost gone. Aemond had finished a couple of chapters and did whatever else he needed to do. 
You sat up straight and rubbed your eyes. Aemond shifting caught your attention and you looked back. 
“Sorry.” You mumbled and swung your legs so your feet touched the floor. 
“Don’t apologize, you’re still tired from your trip. I should be the one apologizing for taking you out so quickly.” 
You yawned and stretched, a breeze hitting your nipples suddenly made you very aware that they had slipped out and Aemond had not taken his eyes off them. 
“If you wanted to see them, all you had to do was ask.” You teased tiredly and Aemond looked down at his now closed book. “I should get back, me and my brothers are going to see a play in the cities.” 
“Then I will see you later, princess.” You stood up and did a curtsy. Aemond frowned at your action but relaxed when you giggled. He even let himself laugh. He did this cute thing where when he laughed his head would shake slightly.
“I hope we continue these meetings, I think something good can come of this.” You say walking toward the door and Aemond stands up to open the door for you.
“I agree, I hope you enjoy the play.” He opens the door and you reach up to kiss his cheek. His face turned pink with affection. 
“See you tomorrow Aemond.”

when rafe picked up kook!reader for midsummers (midsummers part two)
Reader took a deep breath and looked at the clock again.

Rafe was going to be here soon to whisk her away to what he had deemed his “Best Midsummer Date Celebration Extravaganza”. He had been hyping himself up for the past week, bragging about how much he had spent on his tux, the dance lesson Rose had convinced (more like forced) him to take, and all of the time he spent cleaning his best dress shoes. She laughed to herself, picturing Rafe practicing his waltz steps in his sparkly shoes.
As she made her way downstairs she checked her phone to see if Rafe had texted. She hadn’t seen him at all the past two days, which was unusual for the pair. They had planned on meeting up but Rafe called her at the last minute saying he must’ve gotten food poisoning from the night before and couldn’t stop throwing up. Despite ordering the same thing as him (as she had for years), Reader felt perfectly fine. She didn’t bother to question it because, as often as Rafe got drunk and partied, he was never one to actually get sick. Luckily, by yesterday evening, he had texted her saying he was still on for Midsummers. 
The doorbell rang as Reader quickly went to answer the door. She had assumed it was one of the neighbors, as Rafe was a lot of things but early was never one of them. However, to her surprise, she opened the front door to the powder blue suit and flushed face of Rafe Cameron. They both locked eyes for a second before looking down at the other's outfit and meeting eyes again.
“Holy shit.” Rafe said, dropping his arm that held a gorgeous bouquet of flowers to his side. Reader felt her cheeks warm as she let out a bashful giggle. She had seen Rafe in a suit a million times, and he looked great every time. This time was different. This time he was picking her up and taking her out on a date. Not “as a date”, but “on a date”.
“You don’t look too bad yourself, Cameron.” Reader laughed as Rafe’s eyes continued to look over her dress. Rafe was never shy about his affections, but something about seeing him speechless at the sight of her felt even better than any compliment he could give.
“The um— the blue looks very good…” Rafe stammered. “You look very good.”
“Thank you.” Reader said quietly, still feeling a bit overwhelmed by his reaction. Rafe blinked quickly before pulling the flowers back to his chest.
“Here,” Rafe handed the beautiful bouquet to Reader. “I got them from that shop downtown you like… Wheezy helped me pick them out.”
Reader smiled at the thought of Wheezy directing the tall boy through the flower shop, throwing bunches of flowers into his arms. She had done a great job though; lavender and baby's breath spun with beautiful, soft-hued blue lilies all wrapped together with a dainty baby-blue ribbon.
“Well you did a great job. Or Wheezy did at least.” Reader teased, turning to put the flowers into one of the empty vases that sat near the entryway.
“I told you I’d give you the best night of your life.” Rafe said with a shrug before offering out his arm to her.
“Well it’s off to a great start.” Reader grinned, hooking her arm into his. She looked over at Rafe’s silhouette against the setting sun, soaking in this moment and his sharp features as he led her to his car. Once they got to the passenger side, Rafe opened the door and guided her into her seat. She grinned as he closed the door gently before rushing around to the driver's side.
As she soothed her dress down she caught a glimpse of something on the dash: a white, powdery residue. Her heart dropped. Rafe had come to the door flushed, was he using again? She had sworn she hadn’t seen him high since he asked her to Midsummers… or had she? Maybe he was just getting better at hiding it. It wouldn’t be the first time she had caught him when he said he was clean…
“You ready to go, m’lady?” Rafe grinned, putting the keys into the ignition. Reader however, did not match his excitement.
“Rafe.” Reader said calmly, nearly a whisper.
“What? Are you okay? Did I forget something I can—”
“Are you high right now?” Reader said sharply.
“What?” Rafe scoffed.
“I said, are you fucking high right now?” Reader repeated firmly, turning towards Rafe. He scowled, putting the car into reverse.
“Jesus, I’m not fucking high right now. I would never drive high with you in the car, a’ight?” Rafe shook his head as they left the driveway and started towards the country club.
“Then what’s this shit on the dash, Rafe?” Reader said, trying her best to not allow the tears in her eyes to fall. She knew he was an addict but he had promised her tonight. Promised. Promises were so sacred between them, how could he?
“It’s—” Rafe sighed. “Alright fine, it’s coke. But it’s not mine. It’s Top’s. From this morning. I swear.”
“Do you seriously expect me to—” Reader scoffed.
“Yes! I expect you to believe me because I’ve been fucking clean for an entire week for you!” Rafe shouted. An entire week? For her? Sure.
“I would rather you just tell me if you’re fucking high. You know I hate it when you lie to me.” Reader said sharply. Rafe slammed on the breaks before pulling off to the side quickly.
“I’m not lying.” Rafe whispered, his hands still clenched on the wheel despite his soft tone. “I told you— I promised you— tonight and I’m going to fucking deliver. Ok? I’m not gonna fuck this up for you. I… I couldn’t forgive myself if I did.”
Reader sat there in silence, looking over at Rafe. His blue eyes looked at her sincerely, no sign of any dilated pupils or hazy glare despite what the powder covered surface might imply. He was right, he had promised her, and by the look on his face, she could tell he was struggling.
It all started to fall into line: his sluggishness the past week, his flushed appearance, and his “food poisoning”. He was in withdrawal.
“It wasn’t food poisoning you had, was it?” Reader said with an exhale.
“No. It wasn’t.” Rafe said quietly. Reader reached across the center console to take one of Rafe’s hands into her own. He could feel himself relax under her touch.
“I�� I’m sorry, Rafe. I should’ve seen how hard you were trying, I was just being ungrateful and thought this was too perfect and—” Reader rambled, shaking her head.
“No, no, no.” Rafe said, reaching his hands up to cup the sides of Reader’s face, looking directly into her eyes with his own.
“You were right to… doubt me. It wouldn’t be the first time I lied about being clean.” Rafe whispered, running his fingers along her skin slowly as he spoke. In that moment, in his touch, she could feel the Rafe she remembered as a young boy. The Rafe who treated her like she was the best thing in the whole entire world. The Rafe who made her laugh more than he made her cry. The Rafe she had fallen in love with.
“Thank you, Rafe.” Reader said, taking his hands back from her face and holding them gently in her lap.
“You know I would try anything for you.” Rafe said, giving her hands a light squeeze. She could feel her heart swell at his words. He was right. He wasn’t perfect, but he would try to be. For her.
“Well…” Rafe broke the silence, placing one of his hands back onto the steering wheel, keeping the other grasped onto hers. “We should probably get going. We’re already about twenty minutes late.”
“Rafe Cameron! I knew you being early was too good to be true!” Reader teased, causing Rafe to flash her one of his signature grins before peeling back onto the road to the country club.

The next day arrived and Katsuki behaved toward Y/n as if nothing occurred in her apartment.
After what he witnessed yesterday, Katsuki decided to entrust Y/n. He decided to rely on her concerning Kazui. He wouldn't acknowledge it of course but she's a huge benefit to him. The only thing he should do is to make Y/n officially Kazui's babysitter. He didn't mind her tutoring him as well. But he's confident Kazui didn't need tutoring knowing how intelligent his son is.
Y/n on the other hand was feeling frightened when she hasn't seen Katsuki drop Kazui. He probably took him away from her. But when she caught the same car Katsuki used, her heart pounded happily.
"Ms. Y/n! Ms. Y/n!"
Y/n beamed and rushed to Kazui providing him with a tight embrace. She thought she won't be able to see him again.
"Too tight, dumbass."
She heard Katsuki say.
She looked up at him happily causing Katsuki to be surprised. He has never seen that look from her before so it took him off guard but maintained his composure.
"Thank you." Y/n mouthed wiping a small tear from her eyes.
"Ms/ Y/n? Are you okay?" Kazui asked confusedly once Y/n let him go.
"I am, sweetie." Y/n smiled softly at him. "Now go inside, you want to have your first late attendance, right? It'll ruin your record."
Kazui looked at her terrified. "Nooo!!" He yelled dashing towards the school entry.
Both adults watched him make his way inside without stumbling or tripping.
When Kazui faded from their view, Y/n turn in Katsuki's direction.
Katsuki on the other hand was bewildered. Why wasn't he leaving? Was he waiting for Y/n to say something to him?
"Thank you for bringing him today, Katsuki," Y/n said softly as she shift her gaze to her feet.
"The hell are you saying? It's his school. Fuck off." Katsuki reacted looking away.
Y/n chuckled before responding, "W-well, after what occurred yesterday. I-
"What?" Katsuki questioned shifting his gaze towards her. "What happened yesterday was my fault. I should've known your side before jumping to conclusions." Katsuki confessed. What the hell was happening to him?
Y/n just smiled. "W-well then. If you're going to pick him up. You know where to go."
"Tch. You don't have to tell me!"
And with that, Katsuki left the smiling Y/n behind.
They both didn't notice the camera concealing from the trees around the school.
..
The night began to fall bringing Y/n’s shift to an end.
Like how she usually does, she would pack up the things she needed to do at home with Kazui’s belongings as well and flee the school before the sky dimmed.
It was a normal day and nothing interesting happened. And boy she was glad she’ll get her work ID anytime now since she’s a new employee and all.
Well like I said before, she was a babysitter, right?
Nonetheless, as they both reached her apartment, Kazui zoomed in instantly to turn the tv on while Y/n just put his stuff in her bedroom, along with hers.
When she came back dressed in comfortable clothes, she watches Kazui's eyes fixed on the tv. What was so interesting?
Out of curiosity, you take a glimpse at what he was watching.
There was his papa being interviewed. All bruised up. Catching this caused your eyes to widen.
Katsuki will pick Kazui soon, so that means he’ll be here at any moment now.
So what did you do? You headed to the bathroom and collected your aid kit.
Well, why do you need this when your quirk is healing?
Lemme tell you.
Y/n’s quirk is like any ordinary healing quirk. Broken bone? No problem. Destroyed muscle tissue? You got it. But the only drawback in her quirk is that whatever injury she heals, she’ll be the one suffering. If her body doesn't seize the pain, wounds, and scratches would appear everywhere on her body.
As much as possible, she tried and use it less due to the actuality that she knows it’ll come in handy. Just like today.
As soon as Katsuki messages her he’ll come over, she’s unpacking the contents from her kit.
She waited for him to come while preparing dinner and just to be sure, she prepared a meal good for 3 people because she kinda felt like he’ll be starving.
Then she heard a knock. Almost immediately, she patted her hands on the apron she was wearing and scurried to the front door. She even saw Kazui from her peripheral vision getting up from being seated comfortably and peering from the sofa, displaying only his eyes gazing curiously at the entrance.
When you unlock the door, reveals a Katsuki being held by a nervously grinning Eijiro.
“Hey.” Eijiro greeted. “Bakubro here said I should bring him here. Sorry about this though.”
“Uncle Kiri!” Kazui beamed, running towards him and giving him a big from his legs.
“Hey, there kiddo. I didn't know you’d be here.” Eijiro smiled.
“Red riot!” You exclaimed covering your mouth.
“Kirishima is fine. Hehe.” Eijiro said. “So uh, may we can in?”
“Oh my, please do!” You stepped aside letting Eijiro get in with Katsuki, almost dragging him to the sofa.
“Uncle, what happened to Papa?” Kazui instantly sat beside his unconscious father.
“Don’t worry kiddo. He’s just resting.” Eijirou assured before turning his gaze to you. “Do you have any med kit we can use?”
Y/n just smiled. Before she moves a chair near them, she first switched the fire from her stove and went back to them holding a chair.
“Let me help-
“No, please. You are injured as well. Just rest, okay?” Y/n smiled and place the chair in front of them and then went back to the kitchen to grab the med kit from the counter.
Once she got everything, Eijiro was about to thank her for bringing the kit they both needed, but Y/n halted him causing Red Riot to look at her confused.
“I have a healing quirk.” Y/n smiled softly at Eijiro.
“Really!?” Eijiro smiled feeling a bit better.
You nodded in response. “May I tend him first, Red Riot?”
“Please. Just Kirishima.” Eijiro sweatdropped making him scratch the back of his head.
“O-oh! Apology! Kirishima.” You said a little embarrassed.
Eijiro grinned saying it's not to worry about. He watches how Y/n’s demeanor turned serious.
He gazes at her intently seeing her closing her eyes as if focusing on her surrounding. Minutes now, Eijiro saw Y/n take a deep breath before slowly opening her eyes revealing a bright blue color.
Kazui, seeing this hid behind his father’s limp arm, as if scared.
Y/n saw this. She gave Kazui a closed eye smile. “Don’t be afraid sweetie. This is still me.”
Her focus went back to Katsuki. She held his hand gently and a small circle of light came out of her hand and visibly ran under Katsuki’s skin.
Eijiro and Kazui watched in amazement.
Once the light found where Katsuki was wounded, it slowly disappears.
Y/n though closed her eyes, slightly wincing.
The same scenario happened, the comforting light passing through Katsuki’s body, slowly healing him.
The scrapes, wounds, and bruises had been lost to sight from Katsuki’s skin. No scars or marks were left.
Eijiro’s eyes were wide. “That was. Awesome!”
Y/n chuckled at his childish reaction.
“You’re so cool- uh. What’s your name?”

Eijiro blinked but nodded right away. He slightly reached his hand out to Y/n who held it.

Although, his eyes turn to worry when he saw Y/n rubbing her arms as if wincing. “Are you okay?” he asked worriedly and slowly approach her.
Y/n’s iris went back to its original form. She gave Eijiro a strained smile before responding. “Don’t worry. It's just the drawbacks of using my quirk.” You assured.
“Ms. Y/n! You have bruises!” Kazui got up beside his father who was stirring slightly as if waking up and rushes to his teacher’s side.
“What do you mean?” Eijiro asked worriedly, sitting back to where he was seated before.
Y/n was hesitant at first. But she knows sooner or later, they’ll know. So it's best if she just informs them. “Well, every time I use my quirk on someone, the pain taken out from them will be transferred to me. If my body couldn't deal with the pain, bruises would usually emerge,” she said smiling at Eijiro before showing the big purple bruise on her arm.
Eijiro’s eyes once again widen. “W-what!? Why would you use it on us t-then?!”
“Because you’re heroes,” Y/n said making Eijiro silent. “People need heroes. So you should be at your best.”

Y/n and Eijiro stopped conversing once they heard the familiar voice and shift both their faces to him.

Eijiro’s shoulder suddenly slumped making him sigh quietly. He then looked back at Y/n and just smiled before nodding his head.

Heroes' job was the hardest. That's what most all people would say. They would even sacrifice their lives just to maintain peace.
For Y/n, being a hero was the most common dream every student she has. She would watch them play, even argue because they don't want to play be the villain. What a crazy rumor, the Y/n L/n was transferring to Tokyo Jujutsu High? It had been all the talk lately, with girls hoping to get a signature and selfie from her, and guys hoping to win her attention and maybe even her heart.
"Hey Satoru." Suguru Geto who had been mindlessly scrolling on his phone, "Look at this." He directed his phone screen towards the white haired male showing a post made by a student from their school.
'Y/n L/n just arrived at Tokyo Jujutsu High!! She is totally enrolling here!!'
"I guess they weren't lying after all" he pulled his phone back to his view. "I wonder how many guys are gonna ask her out tomorrow. Tsk." Geto rolled his eyes, unbeknowst to Gojo Geto had been a fan of Y/ns since her debut. "Yeah, I bet you'll be one of them Suguru" Gojo teased. Geto tensed, "Huh?" Gojo smirked, "It's totally obvious you got a thing for her too. I've seen that rolled up poster behind your desk." It was true, Geto did have a poster from one of your albums rolled up behind his desk. He was truly just too embarrassed to let anyone know he had a crush on the idol every other guy in the country had one on.
"How did you- nevermind." Geto sighed and bowed his head in defeat. "Don't worry though, me too", Getos head popped back up.
"I actually have her debut poster."
The next day at school had everyone on their toes waiting for the moment to see her make her way through the halls. It was almost silent in the halls, everyone quiet waiting to catch a glimpse of her. But then
the bell rang.

"I'm so sorry I'm late!" you clasped your hands together in an apology to your personal driver, Shino.
"No needs for apologies Miss L/n" he says as he opens the back door of your limousine. You nervously smile at him and enter the vehicle. Truth be told, you weren't late on accident it was on purpose. When you visited the school yesterday to get your enrollment papers you had learned a few things from your new principal.
The Satoru Gojo and the Suguru Geto were students of Tokyo Jujutsu High. You had most definitely heard about the two many times from your mother and father who had been friends with your principal for years.
"They're. quite troublesome." Yaga would say. "But they are fine young men and sorcerers nonetheless." At one of your parents' dinners with the man, he had shown a selfie of the two, along with their female partner Shoko. Before you knew it, you had arrived in the front of the school. "Here we are Miss L/n." You twitched, "Already..?" Shino chuckled, "You'll be just fine Miss L/n." You sighed and opened the car door with a bowed head. "Thanks Shino.." You faced the school with a determined stance, hoping to not come across the two boys on your first day.
Pushing through the front doors of the school you were greeted with Principal Yaga, who smiled greatly at you. "Y/n. Good to see you. You do know you're late right?" You twitched, "Oh yeah.. sorry about that Mr Yaga!" Yaga smiled, "No worries. I'll cut you some slack since it's your first day Y/n. Anyways-"
The door swinging open cut Yaga off, walking through the doorway came a boy about 6'3 maybe taller. He was so tall it was almost crazy how high you had to look up to see his face.

A/N: Hello everybody! I wanted to post this yesterday but I was at work all day so I didn't finish it, but it's finally done! This has a bit more story than my last two, it's definitely a bit longer, but I like it a lot and I hope you do too. I'm trying to post at least once a week, mainly on Wednesday nights, but with two jobs it kinda makes things a little difficult. Anyways, here you go! Enjoy! 💜

Shuji Hanma never thought he’d be the kind of guy that could be tied down. He never thought he’d be the kind of man to love so hard it hurt. Love wasn’t something he thought he was capable of. That is, until the first time he went over to the Kisaki household.
Sixteen years old, full of rage and hormones, he felt like he was on top of the world, that he and Tetta would rule all of Japan together, maybe even the world, without anything standing in their way. “Just sit wherever you want, but if you break anything, I’ll kill you.” Tetta warned, shedding his jacket off and organizing a bit. Shuji had made himself comfortable on the bed, acting as if it were his own and lounging against the pillow. It was super neat and organized in there, but he’d expect nothing less from his friend. The dull, seemingly ordinary teen had filled his life with color, brighter than any circus. He thought life couldn’t get better than this, more exciting, so imagine his surprise when the door opened and he was blinded by the sun.
“Tetta! Mom said it’s your turn to do the dishes, you were supposed to do them right after school. I’m not gonna get bitched at because you didn’t do your part. Go get them done.” Hanma’s smile faded as he sat up, staring at the beauty in the doorway. She was short, jet black hair with blue underneath, busty chest that spilled out of the little black tank top and showed off a tattoo of flowers above her heart and shorts so short Hanma was sure if she turned around he’d see part of her ass. Fuck, was he in love?
Tetta groaned loudly, slamming his fist on the desk. “Dammit, Mei, I just got home! And I have a friend over! I’ll do it later, just get out!” He shouted. The intruder sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes, popping her hip out. “Little shit. Does it look like I fucking care? Get your shit done before mom gets home or I’m kicking your ass.” She huffed before slamming the door closed, Tetta growing in frustration. “Fucking hell, can’t she get off my back for a single fucking second? Dumb ass bitch.” He grumbled, organizing things aggressively now. “Who is that?” Shuji whispered, sitting on the edge of the bed excitedly now. “My bitch ass sister, Unmei. Be happy you’re an only child. Can’t stand her.” Tetta explained. “Hey, why don’t y-hey, where the hell are you going?” He asked, turning around to find Hanma already heading out the door.
His feet were carrying him before he could think, searching all around for her. Hanma’ caught a glimpse of the long hair turning the corner, the tall teen jogging after his new obsession. He followed her all the way to a bedroom, staying at the door while she slipped out onto the patio. Shuji watched as she sat on a chair and lit up a cigarette, feeling his knees get weak. Did he just meet his dream woman? “What the hell are you doing?” Tetta came up behind him, grabbing his shoulder. The smaller teen peaked out from behind his friend, seeing what had him in a trance and scoffing. “What is your problem? Why are you staring at her like that?” He snapped. Hanma’ sighed dreamily, smiling like a fool and resting his head against the door frame. “Kisaki, I don’t know how to tell you this but…I’m gonna fuck your sister.” Hanma clapped, Tetta not even having time to respond or stop him before Shuji was out the patio door.
Unmei looked up at him annoyed, but Shuji had a big stupid smile on his face, crossing his arms and leaning against the door to stop Tetta from sliding it open. “Can I fucking help you?” She asked, the sassy tone giving him butterflies. “Ah, you looked a little lonely out here. Thought I might come out and give you some company, beautiful.” He tried to play it cool as Tetta banged on the door. Unmei grimaced as she looked him up and down, scoffing as she took another drag of her cigarette. “I don’t need any company, shitbag. Go bother someone else.” She told him, looking at the parking lot. Hanma laughed, not one to give up as he turned to look at Tetta, giving him the finger and walking backwards to lean against the railing. “Aw, c’mon, you ain’t gotta be like that. Just tryna strike up a friendly conversation. I’ll even smoke with ya.” He insisted, Tetta crossing his arms and tilting his head to watch what unfolded patiently. Hanma lit his own cigarette, Unmei watching him blow the smoke into the air as he draped his arms over the railing. “I didn’t know Tetta had a sister. Gotta say, you definitely got the looks in the family. Why don’t you and I ditch ‘im and go for a ride? Could show ya some real nice spots.” He wiggled his eyebrows and licked his lips.
The way she looked up at him with a cocky little smirk tugging at her pretty plump lips had him thinking he had it in the bag. When she curled a finger to beckon him closer he moved instantly, leaning down in front of her and blatantly staring at her chest. Her pretty manicured fingers grabbed the collar of his shirt, tugging him down so they were face to face, Shuji feeling her breath on his lips and feeling himself tremble. Her smile faded, her pretty hazel eyes staring right into her soul as she grit her teeth. “Get. The fuck. Out of my room.” Unmei grumbled, breaking his heart as she let go of him. While he was still bent over in front of her she took another drag, blowing the smoke in his face. Before he processed it all a car door slammed from the parking lot below, Unmei looking around him and huffing out a sigh. “Unmei Kisaki, what have I told you about bringing those dangerous hoodlum boys around my house? And are you really smoking right now?” A shrill voice screeched, Hanma standing up to see a woman stomping towards the building. “I didn’t bring him, mom! It’s Tetta’s friend! They’re out here bothering me!” Unmei shouted back, getting up and pushing him back with a hand on his chest. “You liar! You! Get out of my house this instant and leave my no good daughter alone! I swear, you are a disgrace, Unmei!” Their mother started ranting as Hanma opened the door, letting Tetta hear everything. The younger muttered under his breath and stepped out, waving to the woman. “She’s right, mom! This is my friend, he’s just over so I can tutor him!” Tetta lied, their mother instantly relaxing. “Oh, alright, sweetie. Sorry about that, love! But, you should stay away from Unmei, she’s a bad influence. And put that damn cigarette out, young lady!” She called out, Unmei rolling her eyes and puffing at it again.
After that day, Hanma found every excuse he could to come over. But, it was easy to realize who was the favorite child. Tetta constantly complained about how over bearing his parents were, always encouraging him to get the best grades and always do school work. Unmei, on the other hand, was the problem child. Not that she really did anything bad, she just didn’t get good grades and hung out with some shady people sometimes. Shuji noticed she was forgetful, and she had the mouth of a sailor, but every time he was around her he fell more and more in love with her.
Their relationship never improved, he was always her little brother’s annoying friend, but he was sure he’d change that eventually. That is, until the Tenjiku and Toman fight happened. After Tetta died, he felt a hole in his heart. His life lost the color, becoming dull and boring once again. Of course, he was also a fugitive, so he couldn’t exactly make an appearance at the funeral. He did show up, though, dressed in a black hoodie and staying towards the back to avoid being seen. Of course, his eyes were on Unmei most of the time. Her long hair was pulled up out of her face, a nice blazer and skirt on as she sat behind her parents, who were sobbing. Her face was neutral, though, not a tear in her eyes as she started at the ground with a frown.
After the ceremony he’d followed her outside, seeing her sitting by herself on a bench with a cigarette. He wanted to go up to her, to say something, apologize for the part he played in the tragedy, say anything. But, he stayed back as her mother came stomping out, standing right in front of her with her hands on her hips. “Are you serious right now? Are you really smoking at your own brother’s funeral? How could you be so inconsiderate?” She yelled, slapping the stick out of Unmei’s hands. The young woman stared at the ground, face never changing. “I cannot believe I was cursed with such an ungrateful, belligerent, disappointing daughter! Y’know, maybe if you were a better influence on Tetta, none of this would have happened! I swear, you are the worst, Unmei!” Her mother cried out, turning on her heels and balling her fists at her sides. “He had so much potential. He was such a good, smart, respectful kid. It should have been you.” With those last words, she walked away, leaving Unmei to sit there in silence, remaining the same as sadness filled her eyes.
Unmei knew it was true. Of course, as much as she bickered with her brother, she loved him, and she wished she was a better influence on him. Maybe if she had done better, was closer to him, none of this would have happened. It should have been her. She’d been repeating that since it happened. But, she felt so empty, she couldn’t even react. So, she lit another cigarette and walked out, heading home to pack her bags and leave home.
Even years later, nothing had changed. She still felt nothing. She’d made ends meet at a dead end job, enough money to get her own place and buy basic things, like some food and plenty of alcohol. Day in and day out she woke up hung over, went to work, came home and ate a light meal, and drank herself to sleep. She had no friends, no aspirations, just loving day to day like a zombie, doing the bare minimum to keep herself alive even though she wanted nothing more than to die.
Shuji saw all of it. He couldn’t stop himself. The first time he visited Tetta’s grave after the incident, he promised that he’d make sure Unmei stayed safe. After that night…
“God, I hate you!” Tetta shouted as he slammed his door shut, huffing in frustration as Hanma laughed. “Mei Mei troubles again?” Tetta rolled his eyes at the little nickname he’d given his sister, plopping down onto his desk chair and tossing the bag of chips at him. “She’s so frustrating. Mom’s pissed because she doesn’t want to go to college, because she doesn’t think she’s smart enough, but I keep on telling her if she’d just apply herself and put in even the smallest effort that she could go far in life. She’s not stupid, she’s damn smart, she’s just so lazy and doesn’t believe in herself at all.” Tetta complained. “Weeeeell do you think maybe that’s because your mom always calls her a dumb piece of shit? Could be a possibility.” Hanma pointed out. “Mom only says that because she’s lazy and doesn’t want to do anything. Maybe if she acted as smart as she is, there wouldn’t be a problem. I just wish she’d start believing in herself a little. I’m worried she’s gonna end up on the street or in some shitty relationship relying on a man because she doesn’t think she can do anything on her own.” Tetta sighed. Hanma grinned wickedly, rocking side to side and laughing. “Aaawww, you wuv your big sister, don’t you?” He teased, Tetta’s face flushing red as he got embarrassed. “Shut the hell up! I’m tried of your dumb ass.” He huffed as he threw a half empty water bottle at his friend.
Shuji knew how much Tetta actually cared about his sister, so his first visit to his grave he promised to keep an eye on her. And he did, a close eye on her, even if she didn’t know. He made sure she got home safe every night, kept guys away from her, even got her the job she had after “convincing” the owner. She never had any boyfriends, he made sure of that. None of the guys he saw her talking to looked good enough for her, so he made sure they didn’t think they had a chance. Did he think he was good enough? Absolutely not. But, he’d be damned if she was going to end up with someone that didn’t meet the standards her brother had for her.
“God dammit.” Unmei groaned loudly as she poured the last of her whiskey into the can of Pepsi. She didn’t realize she was almost out, which meant if she wanted to get wasted tonight she’d have to go out and get more. Reluctantly, she shrugged on a jacket and slipped her shoes on, grabbing her keys and heading out the door. It was a simple walk, not too far away and one she did often. The liquor store was only 3 blocks away, but of course she kept her knife in her bra, always keeping it on her just in case. Unmei was always paranoid, always thinking someone was watching her. Whenever she was out, whenever she went home, at work, even at home, it felt like the eyes of the world were fixed on her, watching her every move.
She paid the man at the counter, bottle in a paper bag in her hand as she stepped outside, looking everywhere to check her surroundings. The night air slipped it’s way down her jacket, giving her a shiver as she bundled up with her free hand in her pocket. It wasn’t that far of a walk, she could be safe at home in about 10 minutes if she walked fast enough. Behind her, she jumped as she heard the sound of men laughing and giggling like school girls, Unmei looking over her shoulder to see the group. It was about 5 of them, maybe just out of high school. One of them was looking right at her, nudging his friend in the gut to get his attention and whispering to him, bringing all of their attention to her. Her body ran cold as her chest tightened, her feet moving faster as she tried to rush home.
Footsteps behind her got louder and faster, Unmei panting as she began to sprint down the street, hearing the laughing and calling out to her, telling her to stop and slow down. She was terrified, her heart racing as she ran. There was no telling what could happen if they caught up, she was incredibly outnumbered and outmatched. Tears spring into her eyes as she prayed she’d make it home okay.
The loud engine from a motorcycle came roaring down the street, Unmei watching the headlight get closer and closer as she hoped whoever was driving would notice. The bike came to a screeching halt right in front of her, Unmei stopping in her tracks as the tall figure dressed in all black revved the engine. “Unmei! Get on!” The deep voice called out to her, the footsteps behind still approaching. She didn’t have time to think, the man getting off and helping her sit down before he turned to the group, who had now come to a stop and began chattering amongst themselves. Unmei frowned as her savior let his hood fall down, the long black hair confusing her as he cracked his knuckles. Did she know that voice? And this bike, hadn’t she seen it before? Where did she know it from?
Hanma chuckled as he stepped closer to the group, the one in the middle stepping forward. “Look man, he ain’t mean no trouble. Just wanted to talk to the girl.” The young man insisted, putting his hands up in defense. Unmei watched as the bike owner swung without a second thought, knocking her pursuer out in one hit. The next few minutes were a blur, Hanma moving fast and quickly taking them all out while laughing, having more fun than he had in years. His light was back in his life, the long and dark night had ended the moment she looked at him, his sun rising above the horizon once more. As soon as they were all laid out on the ground he rushed back to his bike, getting on behind her and feeling how small she was against his body. “Grab the handlebars and hold tight.” He told her, Unmei tucking her bottle between her legs and doing as he said. His large hands engulfed hers, Unmei’s eyes going wide when she saw the tattoos, her heart skipping when she realized who it was while he revved the engine. “Shuji?” She whimpered quietly as he sped away.
He brought her back to her place without even asking, Unmei getting a sinking feeling in her gut when he parked. “You alright? They didn’t touch you, right?” He asked as he turned off the bike, helping her off carefully. Unmei was panting still, looking up at him and having the tilt her head all the way back. The golden eyes she knew so well looked down at her, long blond bangs framing his thin face as he tucked his hands into his jacket pockets, keeping her between him and his bike. “Shuji? Hanma? Is that really you? I-Its been so long, I-I don’t…” She whispered, shaking her head as she tried to process his presence. Hanma laughed, the sound giving her tingles all over. What was that feeling in her chest? “Its me, Mei Mei. It’s been a while, I know. You’re not hurt, right? Did they say anything to you?” He asked, pinching her chin to examine her face and make sure there weren’t any marks. “N-No, but…where the hell did you come from? How did you…how did you bring me home?” She asked, looking around her parking lot. “Your home? You live here too? I gotta friend that stays on the fourth floor, I was just driving by and saw you getting chased so I figured I’d help out and bring you back to a safe place. That’s all.” He lied. He lied through his teeth, so quick he even surprised himself. There was no way he could tell her he was watching her, that he knew how to get to her house from anywhere in the city. And of course she would believe it, because what other explanation would there be? “Oh, really? Wow, what a coincidence. I live on the third. I was just going to pick something up from the store, but when I left these guys started chasing me, and I was so scared. I’m glad you showed up, Shuji.” Unmei smiled at him, her first genuine smile in years. It blinded him, his heart melting as he smiled back. “Me too. I’m glad you’re okay, Mei Mei. Well, I should probably get back upstairs, my friend is waiting for me. See you around, yeah?” Shuji knew what he was doing. He was acting cool, nonchalant, knowing exactly how she would react.
As he turned on his heel, Unmei felt her heart drop, her breath hitching as she reached out for him. “W-Wait!” She gasped, grabbing him by the back of the jacket and keeping him there. “Hey, um, do you…maybe…wanna come over for a bit? For some reason he didn’t pull out of the driveway immediately which made the pit in Hao’s stomach fall deeper. Was he waiting for y/n? Was his plan going to fail him? 
But, the universe worked in his favor as Joshua pulled out of the driveway all by his lonesome and headed the opposite way down the block. When his car was finally out of sight, Minghao stepped outside into the fresh air and walked up the front walkway to her house. 
Unsure if he should knock or ring the doorbell to insure she heard that someone was waiting on the front porch, he saw y/n through the large glass window and stared for a moment at the back of her head. 
Taking a deep breath in he decided on a light knock, waiting patiently for her to come answer the door. 
“Josh, Seriously you have a key why are you kno-” 
As the door split open to reveal the girl he hadn’t seen in too long, she gasped and stood to look at him with a blank face. 
“Oh.” 
“That’s all you can say?” 
“I’m not really sure what to say, why are you here?” 
“I didn’t believe anything Wonwoo had told me yesterday, can we talk?” 
“Uh, yeah. Come in.” 
Minghao stepped through the door into y/n’s world and followed her through the house to the kitchen. 
“Want any coffee, matcha, water, alcohol?” 
 “Waters good.” 
Grabbing two glasses one for water and one for a glass of wine y/n felt like she so desperately needed to ease her stress, she sat down across from him at the table. Her eyes puffy, her face dull and dry, almost like she hadn’t been sleeping and probably crying. 
“So?” 
“Well first of all, it’s good to see you. I don’t really know how to start off asking you anything, but I guess I really need to know why you lied about writing the letter?” 
“Oh. Well I didn-” 
“Y/n come on. We both know you didn’t write it. I can read Wonwoo like a book, he was insisting a little too much that you didn’t want to see us. I won’t entertain it for even a second.” 
“Damn, Wonwoo. Well, the night of the party after Mingyu left his office to go and help Minnie, uh, Mimi came in after the lights went out and she threatened me. She gave me the letter to sign and told me to block you guys and go somewhere else.” 
“Threatened you how?” 
“Just that if she didn’t force me out, she would never get what she wanted.” 
“Which is?” 
“She didn’t say. She just handed me car keys and a zip drive.” 
“Did you look to see what was on it?” 
“No. I don’t care.” 
“But, it could be something good.” 
“It might be and it also might be nothing, but I want to be done with her. I want no stress. I was so happy before she came back into my life again and for a moment I thought she really wanted to move passed whatever fucking issue she has with me and be friends. I really just don't understand the issue.” 
“She’s jealous.” 
“But, why? She’s successful, her parents have money, she’s not unfortunate looking at all. She has nothing to be jealous of me for.” 
“Joshua? Mingyu? Minnie? The list goes on and on, she never could make friends who liked her more than they liked you.” 
“They did like her. I thought once she got with Joshua it was over the first time, then all hell broke loose. It’s like whenever she’s around everything in my life that was starting to be good goes to shit.” 
“You have to stop letting her get away with it.” 
“I just don’t want to deal with it anymore, Hao I’m so fucking tired.” 
“You have to deal with it. I know it’s eating away at you, but if you let it continue, you let her take over your life. I know you would never forgive yourself for that. Plus, you have some dumbass friends helping you and one smart one. Seokmin, Jun, Vernon, and Wonwoo need you, your the glue. They’ve been so sad thinking you just left for no reason other than you didn’t want to see them anymore.” 
“And you?” 
“Yeah. Of course. Why do you think I'm here convincing you to come back and be with us? I’d even offer to get on my hands and knees and beg but I don’t want it to come to that.” 
“I mean you could.” 
Minghao laughed at y/n’s small bit of sarcasm coming back to her, when he heard someone opening the front door, thinking it was Joshua he got up to leave when y/n stopped him and got up herself. 
“Dad? Where do you think you’re going, I said if you need something to let me know.” 
“Ah, honey. Just wanted to sit in the sun for a few minutes, and didn't want to bother you and your friend.” 
y/n looked over at Minghao, putting her finger up to gesture one minute, wrapped her arm around her fathers and led him towards the back of their house. 
Minghao just smiled back, watching her walk away out the patio door, helping her dad with his cane as she opened the door up and sat him in a chair under the sun. 
Before she came back in he studied how well she took care of him, placing a pillow behind his back slowly and comfortably, pointing at a tree to show him a bird, and a gesture which made Minghao think she was asking him a question. 
When she came back in she headed straight to the fridge and grabbed three cans of beer, walking back to Minghao cuddling with her dog on her childhood couch. 
“Come on.” 
“What?” 
“You’re going to have a beer with my dad, come on. His request. Bring Lucy with you.” 
She smiled gesturing to her small dog sitting on Minghaos lap, he gracefully picked her up, getting nervous to meet the man y/n had amazing things to tell him before. 
“Don’t be scared, kiddo. I don’t bite.” 
“Nice to meet you sir, I’ve heard a lot about you.” 
Minghao opened a can of beer, placing it in the older man’s slightly shaking fingers, making sure he had his grip just right before opening the two following cans. 
“So, you’re the boy my daughter told me about huh? The artist.” 
“Talking to your dad about me, y/n? Wow.” 
“Na, once or twice.” 
“She doesn’t shut up about you, you might out rank Seokmin.” 
“Dad no-“ 
“No, let the gentleman talk, y/n. I want to hear it.” 
Y/n just shook her head, sitting back in her chair, blushing slightly. 
“Nothing but good things of course, I kept begging her to bring you over. But, she never did. Keep bringing that Joshua instead. He was never my favorite kid, nice, but a little bit of a follower.” 
“Well I'm glad she finally let us meet even though she didn’t have much of a choice.” 
“Me too. I heard you used to be a little bit of an artist yourself, in the kitchen.” 
“Oh, definitely. Those were my glory days, now all I have to show for it is a little bit of a messed up leg and some grease burns, but the memories of it is all that matters. My restaurant is going well even without me, maybe it hurts my pride slightly as a perfectionist, but my wife knows her way around a kitchen better than me at this point.” 
“Ah, so y/n’s mom took over for you when you left?” 
“She always was in the kitchen with me, sous chef, that’s how we met. Many, many years ago. I was pretty new in the restaurant industry, we met at a cooking class. Been going strong ever since.” 
Minghao smiled watching y/n hear her father relive his life with such pride. He knew how much her parents meant to her, but now he understood why she loved to be loved, it was what she was used to, what she needed. He was the same. 
“A shame I didn’t get to meet her then.” 
“Well, she’ll be home-“ y/n’s father looked down at his watch, “An hour probably, you can stay for dinner if you like. Maybe y/n can show you how we are in the kitchen.” 
“I don’t think he can stay, dad. His friends are waiting for him at the hotel.” 
“Nonsense, call them a car, I’ll give you money.” 
“But-“ 
“Y/n, no. I insist. I have lots to talk to my new friend Minghao about. Get them here.” 
Minghao pulled his phone out, texting Wonwoo to get ready to come over to your house with the rest of the guys. Saying sorry he took so long to let him know how it was going. 
“Alright, sir. I let them know and called them over.” 
“Sir? I’m far too young for that, call me Wynn.” 
Y/n stood up from the table, excusing herself to go and take a shower, giving a slight look to her dad, almost begging for him not to embarrass her before waltzing inside followed by her small curly haired dog. 
Minghao sat and listened to many stories about her parents' lives, everything that went down with y/n before he had met her, he almost felt her father let him in even further to her life than she had on her own. 
A woman Minghao had assumed was y/n’s mom, considering her good looks and similar bone structure walked onto the patio, beaming a smile at her husband and coming over to kiss his cheek, took one look at Minghao and he already knew she was aware of who he was. Which was a confident point to him, y/n really did talk to her parents about him. Maybe he’d probe her later about the types of things she may have said. 
“Who’s this striking young man, honey? Where’d you find him?” 
“Well, he came over pleading to me to buy some candy for his fundraiser, and figured I’d give him some beers in exchange for candy.” 
“Ah, smart.” 
Y/n’s mom came over to Minghao as he stood out of his chair to greet her with a hand outstretched as she pulled on it and gave him a big hug. 
“I’m only kidding, I know who you are. I’m sure my husband told you our silly daughter doesn’t shut up about you.” 
“Good things?” 
“Oh, of course. Don’t tell her I told you this but, I think she may have a bit of a crush. I see why.” 
Minghao blushed, still holding onto her moms hand. 
“She must have forgotten to tell me how beautiful you are, I see where she gets it from.” 
“Oh, wow. A charmer. I love that. You’re staying for dinner?” 
“Yes, if that’s okay.” 
“I insist, if my husband hasn’t already. What would you like?” 
“Y/n actually made me that chicken recipe of yours… if it’s not too hard.” 
“Oh, she definitely likes you. Not hard at all.” 
“Honey, y/n has some more friends coming. How many did you say, Minghao?” 
“Four more. If that’s okay?” 
“The more the merrier. I’ll go get started. Where is that girl anyway?” 
“Shower.” 
“Okay, don’t hesitate to make yourself at home. I’ll go get started, gentlemen.”

Y/n sat on the floor of her shower, letting the hot water rush down her skin. Wanting to feel it burning into her as she contemplated how dumb she’s been. 
She felt awful for letting her friends think she didn’t like them, that she was doing horrible things to make them hate the girl who was actually doing them to her. 
Was she excited to see her friends? Of course. But, she knew it came with a bunch of unanswered questions they couldn’t get to until later considering she never told her parents the new chapter in the Mimi saga, they already hated her for the past, but they would hate her more for this recent fuck up. 
She was looking down at her wrinkling hands as the door opened to the bathroom, a cold rush of air hitting her skin under the warm water. 
“Honey? Everything okay?” 
“Oh. Hi, mom. I’m good, just shaving.” 
“Alright, sweetie. When you’re finished would you mind helping me in the kitchen? If not, that's alright.” 
“Of course. I’ll be down in a second.” 
“Alright.” 
Seconds after her mom shut the door, y/n shut the hot water off, basking in her last moments of solitude and got ready to head back downstairs. 
As she was walking around the corner of the staircase, she heard a familiar voice at the door, Seokmin. 
Her best friend. The one person she felt the most guilty not talking to. 
Her mom was basically yelling with joy seeing him and Jun walk into her house again, as well as greeting two more new faces with her infectious cheerful nature. 
She told her to grab the cooler of drinks from the kitchen and head outside to meet her husband and Minghao. 
Y/n wasn’t sure how to make her entrance. 
As she reached the kitchen, her mom just gave her a small smile as she was cutting into the various fresh veggies from her garden, nodding her head to the door, forcing her to go greet them. 
She took a deep breath in, taking a sip of her moms wine sitting on her marble countertop and headed outside. 
“Y/n!!” 
All four of her friends greeted her loudly, the two of them who’ve known her the longest nearly having tears welling up in their eyes. 
“Hi. You guys look so nice? I’m in pajamas. What the hell.” 
“Go change, come on. We were telling your dad we’re having a small birthday party for you tonight.” 
“Jun, you don’t have to-“ 
“Shut up, yes we do. Now go. Minghao help her, she will need it.” 
“Guys no.” 
“Go, go, go.” 
“But my mom-“ 
“Honey, mom will be fine. Go on.” 
“Okay.” 
Y/n let Minghao back up the same staircase she had just come down, he took in the walls full of family photos and young pictures of y/n as she led him to the pastel blue colored walls of her childhood room. Full of posters and moments of her life. 
“The closet is slim pickings here and don’t mind the bedsheets, butterflies were super cool okay.” 
“Butterflies are still cool.” 
“Sorry we didn’t get to finish talking before and for my parents, they love company.” 
“No. They’re amazing. I see where you get it from.” 
“Shut up.” 
“Can I ask an innocent question?” 
“Yeah?” 
“Is this the room that, you know.” 
“Mimi filmed me in? Yes.” 
“Oh, sorry.” 
“Don’t worry. So, my closet is obviously here. Overflowing. Uh, yeah, have at it, Hao.” 
“Also can I just say right here right now, your dad is fucking cool.” 
“Really? He’s not embarrassing you?” 
“No. He’s fun.” 
Y/n just laughed, sitting crossed legged on the edge of her twin sized bed. Waving him along to do his work. 
“What about… maybe this?” 
Minghao pulled out a long sleeved black dress, something y/n only bought to have in case the boy she thought she would love forever asked her on a date. It’s never been worn even though it’s been in her closet for years. She almost hesitated and said no, but the butterflies in her stomach watching Minghao pull it from the closet changed her mind. 
“Okay.” 
She got up and grabbed it from his hands, staring at it admirably as he watched her eyes light up. 
“Cover your eyes, please.” 
“Sorry. Okay.” 
Minghao didn’t even question her, he took his hands over his eyes as he closed them and listened to the signs as she was getting undressed. He never looked, even though he’s seen her less than clothed before. 
She tapped his forehead to let him know she was done, giggling as he jumped a little not knowing their proximity. 
He opened his eyes, staring at her. Unaware his jaw had dropped to the floor as he looked at her up and down, pulling his hands from his face and running them down the sleeves covering her arms. 
“Wow. That’s so..” 
“So? Bad? Good? What?” 
“Beautiful, yeah good obviously. It’s nice. Why have you never worn it?” 
“Oh, I was saving it for something special.” 
“Ah.” 
Minghaos hands still rested on her arms, staring into her eyes. Feeling the urge to kiss her, but didn’t know how to move. 
She just looked back at him, smiling, almost wondering why he wasn’t making a move, before a knock came onto her latched door. 
“Guys? Dinners are almost ready, come on.” 
They broke apart at the knock, leaving the lingering tension in the air around them. 
“Have we really been up here that long? Your dad will hate me.” 
“No, they know I would never do any funny business. Probably just assumed we were busy talking or something.” 
“Okay? Good.” 
“Can we finish this later?” 
“Y/n are you flirting with me?” 
“I think so?” 
“Good enough for me.”

As they ate dinner, drank, and laughed y/n realized what she had been missing. 
Her friends, no matter the situation, were always here for her. 
The decorations, the flowers, the small cake they had picked up on their way over was all an effort to prove to her they would always have her back. 
When they all finally snuggled up into bed, her last thought was she would do anything to have it back, without all the complications.

Zuma Appreciation Week: Day 4 - Zuma's Birthday!
Today’s the big day! For those who may not know, while none of the pups have any official birthdays, today is the day the organizer of Zuma Appreciation Week headcanons to be Zuma’s birthday, and so this is the day she’s celebrating it on her blogs. I don’t really have much to say here other than a big Happy Birthday to Zuma, so let’s get this party started!
Zuma yawned as he made his way out of his pup-house to stretch his legs.
“Must’ve gotten up early. Chase hasn’t woken us up with his megaphone yet.”
He considered going back into his pup-house to take advantage of his early rising with a good book and enjoy a relaxing morning, but once he remembered what day it was, he knew he wouldn’t be able to sit still.
“It’s my birthday! Wahoo!”
Zuma had to stop himself from howling with excitement and accidentally waking the others; just because it was his birthday didn’t mean he was allowed to give everyone else a rude awakening.
“I wonder what Ryder has planned for today…”
Zuma’s tail wagged happily at the thought. Ryder always made a point to do something extra special whenever one of their birthdays came around. Marshall had gotten to spend his birthday with his favorite racer, The Woosh, and Rocky had been surprised with his own garage on his birthday, which Zuma still has yet to visit for himself; he’ll need to pop by there sometime.
Since he was so full of energy, Zuma decided to run a few laps around the Lookout to blow off some steam, but as he was finishing his first lap, he caught a glimpse inside Chase’s pup-house out of the corner of his eye and skidded to a halt.
Chase wasn’t in his pup-house. In fact, looking back at the rest of the pup-houses, he realized all of them were empty.
“Where is everyone?” Zuma asked no one in particular. Maybe it wasn’t as early in the morning as he had thought, had he slept through Chase’s wake-up call somehow? If so, how come no one had come to get him?
He decided to head inside the Lookout to see if they were there, only to be met with a dark room, the only light coming from the glass doors of the entrance.
“Did the power go out or something?”
………
“SURPRISE!”
Light flooded the room, and Zuma jumped a solid foot in the air as everyone popped out of their hiding spots. The Lookout lobby had been decorated in shades of bright orange and ocean blue, with kelp green streamers and sea creature replicas thrown in here and there. A bubble-maker sat near the back of the room, filling the Lookout with a steady stream of bubbles, and in the center of the room sat a pretty impressive underwater themed cake topped with a cute figurine of Zuma in his scuba gear posed to look like he was swimming through the ocean.
“Happy Birthday Zuma!” Ryder and the rest of the pups cheered. Zuma stood in shock for a moment before he broke out into laughter.
“Wow guys, you did all this for me? How long did it take to set all this up?”
“Not as long as you might think.” Rocky replied, “Between the six of us we were able to get it done pretty quickly. The only real problem we had was with hiding the cake, Mr. Porter finished it yesterday and we had to get it into the fridge without you noticing.”
“I thought you guys were acting weird yesterday.”
“Yeah, it was honestly such a pain, but it was worth it.”
“You guys are the best!”
“Speaking of cake,” Ryder chimed in, “Do you want to eat it now, or wait until after your big surprise?”
“I think we should wait.” Rubble suggested, which was frankly surprising since they were discussing food. “We’re all gonna be pretty hungry after Zuma’s surprise.”
Zuma’s tail wagged wildly, it sounded like his surprise was something big! He felt like he was about to bounce off the walls in excitement.
“Let’s do it after, you guys are getting me so excited for my surprise I don’t think I can wait another minute for it!”
“Well, can you at least wait until after breakfast?” Rubble asked, sending the group into a fit of laughter.
Once they had breakfast, the team made their way to the docks, where Cap’n Turbot was waiting with the Flounder.
“Ahoy there pups! And a particularly perky ahoy to you, Zuma, and a hearty happy birthday! You ready for a riveting ride out to sea?”
“You bet! What are we gonna do? Whale watching? Water skiing? Scuba diving?”
“Well, you’ll just have to step foot onto my fine vessel and find out.”
Zuma practically ran onto the Flounder and had to stop himself from just taking the wheel and manning the vessel himself; a tempting idea aside from the fact that he didn’t know where they’re supposed to be going.
As the ship set sail, Zuma raced back and forth from one side of the boat to the other, looking over the railings to try and figure out where they were headed with his tail wagging so fast it was almost a blur.
“It looks like Zuma’s got the zoomies.” Cap’n Turbot laughed as he watched Zuma run across the ship’s deck for what must’ve been the tenth time by now. Ryder nodded before briefly slipping below deck to grab the scuba gear he had brought along with them.
“Hey Zuma, you want to go ahead and get into your scuba gear now or wait until we get there?”
“I knew it! We are going scuba diving!”
“Yep, and you’re going to love the diving spot we found, it’s amazing. Even Rocky’s excited about it.”
“Well, I wouldn’t say excited,” Rocky countered, “but from the pictures Cap’n Turbot showed us, it is really pretty. And it’s a type of recycling, which you know I’ll never complain about, even if it’s underwater.”
Now Zuma was even more excited, it must be great if it got Rocky in the water! Zuma decided to busy himself by getting into his scuba gear, and by the time he was suited up, the Flounder had dropped anchor at its destination.
“Alright pups, ready to dive?”
“You know what I always say: let’s dive in!”
Zuma canon-balled into a water with a big splash, followed by the rest of the Paw Patrol along with Cap’n Turbot. Together, the group dived beneath the waves and began swimming towards the sea floor.
Even in the water, Zuma was still a bundle of energy, doing spins and flips and kicking up a whirlwind of bubbles.
Once they were close to the sea floor, a large structure came into view. It was a sunken ship, probably centuries old, completely covered with colorful coral and sea life. Large schools of fish darted in and out of holes in the ships hull alongside crabs and starfish that crawled along the deck. It was the biggest coral reef Zuma had ever seen.
“Woah. An artificial reef! I’ve never seen one of these in person before! This is awesome!”
Rocky nodded, “Yeah, it’s so cool how all the ocean creatures can recycle stuff like old ships and shipping containers that fell in the ocean and turn them into reefs. Its such a great way to reuse stuff in a way that directly contributes to environmental conservation.”
“Maybe you and I can do some research together on underwater habitat preservation, have you heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch?”
“Are you kidding? What environmental conservationist hasn’t heard of that floating nightmare? You and I should definitely brainstorm ocean clean-up ideas, it keeps me up at night knowing there’s all that garbage just floating around in the ocean.”
“Me too.” Zuma sighed, “But that’s a problem for another day. Right now, we’ve got a reef to explore!”

Its a semi cloudy day, perfect for relaxing inside and doing nothing. It was also turning out great. You woke up, got dressed, remembered you have snacks downstairs, and started cleaning up. When you were in the bathroom brushing your teeth you hear your bedroom door open. Peaking out you see its carl, not surprised, since you guys go back and forth “sharing rooms”
"Oh good your up. Did you finish the spare shampoo I had under the sink?"
You covered your mouth trying to be polite and not laugh at his sternness "Uh yeah sorry I can ask Daryl to put that on the list. You'll get it by tomorrow."
He furrowed his brow "K."
"Whats your problem its just shampoo."
"God my problem is you. "
You were taken aback at how fast he snapped back at you. He didn’t usually act like an asshole but you knew he would eventually get out of his little mood swing. Internally you decided to help him get out of it faster by arguing.
You rolled your eyes "oh please elaborate! Because I'm sorry your having a bad morning but that has hardly anything to do with me."
"you're useless. Your ass doesn't do anything except hang around your little friends and eat shit. What good are you?"
Turning from the mirror to him you mustered up the meanest look you could. Then popped the tooth brush out of your mouth and rinsed preparing to go off on him. Who does he think he is calling you useless? He was just your 'bff' yesterday and now he's acting like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders.
"First I am not useless. Do you even think before you speak because that doesn't make sense at all considering I am the one changing Judith's diapers, cleaning both your room, hers, and mine every week, and on top of that cooking your meals, so please come get me when your attitude is looking up. Cause I don't know who put you in this mood but its your job to get out of it."
You walked past him scoffing. Downstairs you grabbed your walkman, a bag of grapes, rollerskates and walked out the door.
You had been rolling around the neighborhood for a little while, enjoying the fresh air and exercise. Eventually, you came across a bench and decided to take a rest. As you sat down, you reached into your bag and pulled out a handful of juicy grapes. As you savored the sweet flavor, your mind wandered to thoughts of Deana and her parties. You realized that you could really use some fun right now, and hoped that Deana would throw another one soon. In the meantime, you decided to listen to some music on your Walkman. You scrolled through your playlist and selected "Rehab" by Lana Del Rey, letting the cute melody wash over you as you enjoyed a moment of peaceful solitude on the bench.
You sat there soaking in your thoughts mindlessly eating your grapes. You started noticing small things that you didn't notice before like how lifeless everything looked when it wasn't sunny. It made you think of Winter which was coming close. The thought of Christmas warmed your heart, but made you wonder how different it would be celebrating during the end of the world. Surely parents want their kids to have something like that. You definitely would even at your age.

You quickly jerked out of your train of thought at the sound. Was someone hurt? Looking around you didn't see anything. But something told you to get somewhere safe. You stood up gathering your things shaking, when you started hearing more screams. Startled you just grabbed your roller skates and ran in the direction of your house. As you turned a corner you saw the mayhem. People cut into pieces and random people running around with machetes and other weapons. Now officially scared out of your mind you sprinted as fast as you could.
Morgan was in shackles, people being sliced, beaten. You caught a glimpse of someone with a 'W' on their forehead. The group Rick and morgan were murmuring about got inside the walls and are killing everyone. As you neared the house you heard someone laughing close behind you.
fuck.
"No no no no" You Turned your head to see who it was and you almost started crying. A big, probably three hundred pound, man was running behind you with a spear. You picked up the pace still a block away from the house.
You looked to your right hoping Rick or someone was gonna shoot him but instead you saw a handgun laying on the sidewalk. You bolted to it and immediately picked it up and blindly fired two shots in his direction.
One hit his arm holding the spear. You went to shoot again but *click*. You panicked then he charged at you then you fell back. Now your heart was beating faster than ever hoping you didn't just get yourself killed. He was on top of you and you stupidly threw a punch but it hit him. Blood trickled down his cheek and landed on you. He hissed at the pain, not from your power, but from the four cheap and prickly rings you had on. Before he turned back to hit back you pulled out your knife from your boot about to pierce his neck when a shot sounded. You winced then realized Carl had shot him.
You quickly wiggled from underneath him as you had tried earlier then stood up and wiped the blood off your jaw, still in shock.
"I had it."
"Barely." He said in a cocky manner, but with some sympathy in his voice. "Are you okay?''
"um.........Yeah i'm okay." You said
Now you were feeling faintish after only having grapes as a meal for the day and all the stress you had just been through. It seemed he had noticed this too because he grabbed your hand and started guiding you through the chaos back home.

A couple of hours passed, you were boiling noodles for a classic spaghetti in the kitchen. It felt strange casually cooking a meal after what happened. But there seemed to not be any right way to deal with the fact that you almost become road kill.
Carl was upstairs probably putting Judith to sleep and getting into his pajamas. Your feet began to tingle, a sign they were falling asleep so you decided to stroll over to the counter and sit there after turning the simmer down. You ran your soft hands through your hair then slowly rubbed your temples. You heard him come downstairs.
"Hey y/ n"
You looked up "Hey Carl, whats up?"
"Nothin, just uh put Judith down. Are you doing alright?"
"Yeah i'm as good as I can be at the moment. I just have a raging headache. Also- where did the others go?"
"Oh they were helping people clean up, now their at Deana's." He paused "But I just wanted to talk to you about this morning.. Im sorry for being um rude. I didn't mean what I said obviously I was just well.. I don't know. I'm also sorry because its my fault you were out there when the people attacked anyway. Do you forgive me?"
"Yes I forgive you" you said slightly giggling "I can't stay mad at you for long but thank you for also saving my life. Even if it was your fault I was out there you could have chose not to save me, your best friend, but you did."
He smiled at the way you punctuated best friend "yeah" He sat in the chair next to you staring at his hands as if he was thinking about saying something.
As you rose to attend to the food, he said, "Best friend huh?" to which you simply replied, "Yep haha". However, the conversation took an unexpected turn when he asked, "Have you ever thought of like... being more?"
You stood frozen for a second, before realizing he was probably watching you from behind.
You had considered this possibility before, but you didn't want to complicate things by bringing it up. The thought of him rejecting you made you feel uneasy, wondering if he would be scrutinizing your every move after. You tried to shake off the feeling, but it lingered in the back of your mind every time you saw him, thought about it, hell even dreamt about him. You thought it was time to confront him about it, or at least bring it up in conversation. You didn't want to be paranoid, but you also didn't want to ignore your instincts.
"hmm well" you said teasing him a little "what do you mean?"
"I'm just being dumb or whatever"
"No, your not, tell me" You said turning around and smiling. This gave him hope that you would feel the same.
"It's just, I woke up in a bad mood cause I overheard you with your friends last night talking about me. You said I come on too strong and It's obvious who I like and-"
"Oh my god no carl" you interupted " I wasn't talking about you I was talking about Abraham and Sasha. I love them both but it's so funny watching their little friends to lovers trope"
He laughed "ohhh, my bad um" "Well sorry for that too. But what I'm trying to say is I like you. I thought you didn't like me back so I got mad but- It's okay if you don't like me back I just needed to tell you because I couldn't hold on to that secret anymore." he said nervously running his hand through his hair.
You smiled and looked at him. You felt like everything that you didn't expect to happen today was happening at the strangest times.
"That- well I like you too. I was too scared to tell you because I was afraid you didn't feel the same way"
"Really?"
You nodded.
He stood up and walked over to your spot grabbing the warm wooden spoon from your hand and pulling you in for a kiss.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN ─ echoes of yesterday.

Narrator's Perspective
"Eunyoung?" Inhyuk called out her name as she turned to look at him, "I thought you might be here."
Eunyoung stared at him blankly for a few moments, trying to figure out who he was, until she realised he was Inhyuk. Her eyebrows shot up in a moment of realization, "Oh it's you, Inhyuk! You were at Sunjae's swimming competition, right?"
"Yeah that's me," he breathed out, "I'm surprised you remember."
"I have a good memory," Eunyoung smiled politely, "Sunjae stayed over at your place, didn't he?"
Inhyuk nodded in agreement, "You're right, he did. He didn't come to school today."
"I figured," there was a bittersweet taste on her tongue as she recalled the various events of the previous day, "How's he feeling? He was heartbroken yesterday; first the doctor's words then his father's..."
"He won't tell me anything," Inhyuk complained, frowning, "He only told me about his shoulder."
"He couldn't get himself to talk to his dad about it," explained Eunyoung, looking down as she recalled the conversation she overheard, "Can you try to get him to tell his dad? He needs to know. Sunjae might act tough, but these are though times, and he needs all the support he can get."
"I will," Inhyuk assured. After a pause, he added, "Sunjae's really grateful for your support too. He didn't say much, but he mentioned how you were there for him. I wanted to say thanks from his behalf."
"There's no need to thank me," Eunyoung smiled, "What are friends for?"
Kim Taesung's Perspective
I caught a glimpse of Yumi from accross the fence dividing the boys and girls schools. My gaze fixed on her face; Her long hair fell messily on her shoulders, the breeze sending a few strands flying in random directions. A wide smile lit up her face as she laughed with her friend. The cigarette from my hand fell to the ground as my grip loosened without meaning to. Its soft thump on the pavement broke my focus and I put it out with my foot.
The lunch bell clanged, jarring me back to reality. I blinked, the bustling crowd of students a harsh contrast to the empty space where Yumi had stood moments ago. My feet, traitors that they were, hadn't moved an inch while I was lost in the memory of her.  An inexplainable feeling lingered in my heart, recalling the last time I encountered her. Her hair seemed to fall perfectly and her face seemed to be sculpted by the gods.
"Maybe I should quit smoking..."

I found myself becoming increasingly foolish as I acted on impulse rather than rational thinking. To be fair, I had made quite a few impromtu descisions that didn't turn out in the best way; But this was different. Since I started taking my motorcycle to school, I had always taken a shortcut, which allowed me to reach home within fifteen minutes. It was quick and convinient, and it had worked for me.
The final strains of band practice faded into the background, a dull ache settling in my fingers from the worn strings of my guitar. Today, however, the usual post-practice routine held no appeal. Instead, a strange compulsion tugged at me, leading my feet towards the unfamiliarity of the music club exit.
There, I lurked like a lovesick fool in a bad spy movie, trying my hardest to appear nonchalant. Every fiber of my being screamed "obvious stalker," but dammit, if my Oscar-worthy performance didn't deserve an award. 
The bus doors hissed open as Yumi momentariy dissapeared from my sight. My heart hammered a frantic rhythm against my ribs as I raced to my bike, a silent vow forming on my lips. "Stay cool," I muttered, the words muffled by the helmet that encased my head. "Just a casual bike ride on a beautiful day, nothing suspicious to see here."
Except, the day wasn't particularly beautiful, the traffic was a congested nightmare, and my definition of "casual" had never involved weaving recklessly between lanes, desperately trying to keep the bus in sight. Finally, a sliver of victory – I found myself gliding beside Yumi's window, mirroring her movements on two wheels.
A ghost of a smile played on my lips, hidden beneath the confines of the helmet. Her profile was a masterpiece, framed by the bustling cityscape. Yet, a pang of guilt twisted in my gut. Was this the kind of guy I wanted to be? A creepy stalker on a bicycle? Or maybe, just maybe, there was a fine line between devotion and desperation, and I was teetering precariously on the edge.
Narrator's Perspective
"Since mom wasn't home last night, Sunjae and I came upstairs. We sat there talking for sometime, and then it almost seemed like he was going to..." Eunyoung's voice trailed off as the scene replayed in her mind. Warmth crept up her face, recalling their proximity. Thinking of the moment now felt like it was a fragment of her imagination as she questioned whether it really happened. The real question, a silent scream echoing in the chambers of her heart, was: had she truly fallen for him? This wasn't the blind adoration she'd felt for him back in her "Eclipse" phase, a time when his brooding good looks and mysterious aura had captivated her from afar. This was different. This was a closeness born of shared secrets, whispered conversations in the dead of night, and a connection that transcended the superficial.
"What?" Yumi inquired, itching with curiosity, "Can you stop trailing off like that? You've done that too many times. I'm starting to question your storytelling skills."
"Nothing," Eunyoung evaded the topic entirely, not wanting to get caught up in her emotions, "It's not important. I'm really worried now. Can I really change things? Do I have that kind of power or was I lying to myself this whole time? I'm afraid of loosing him now more than ever. I'm scared, Yumi."
Yumi placed a supportive hand on Eunyoung's shoulder, "You really think it was a coincidence that you came here with the help of Sunjae's signed CD after Sunjae's death? It's not over yet, trust me."

After the events of the Upside Down, a confused- albeit somewhat the same - 'Eddie the Banished' crawls his way back to Hawkins and seeks refuge in the now abandoned theme park, where he one day finds an equally confused - albeit somewhat the same - you.

The horizon ahead of you resembled something of an unfinished Michelangelo project with all of its ‘cadmium orange’ and ‘cobalt blue.’ The further south you drove, the more you found evidence of a burning ‘sienna’ in the mix as well, brushed onto that plaster sky still wet from the rain earlier today. You thought if you pushed the gas just a little more, you might soon start to see outlines of God extending his hand to Adam, but you were going 55 now and the only change in scenery was that the clouds were quickly taking on a darker hue.
The sun is setting and you’ve not even touched the asphalt of the fairgrounds yet. Maybe you should have admitted that you were somewhat lost one ‘Sattler Quarry’ ago, but you were too determined to turn back now. You had your mother’s Lou Reed cassette in your car stereo, playing “Perfect Day” from side A. You could sometimes listen to the whole tape without crying, and you had already had your mind set on today being one of those days.
You were also fixed on reliving some of your favorite memories with her, which is what brought you back to good ol’ Hawkins in the first place. Before the days of factory smoke pollution and L trains, you went through a good portion of your growing pains in Roane County. Then your father’s job pulled your family of three to Bloomington, before dreams of your own pulled you out of ‘Indie’ altogether.
But now you’re back, for the first time since the funeral. Has it been a year already? It felt like only yesterday to you, but so did all of your other resurfacing memories at the very moment you drove into your old hometown. Most of which plagued you the second your car neared that playground. You didn’t dare look in the direction of the schools, it took one year in Chicago and a whole other sabbatical year in New York for you to at least try to forget every classroom you’d ever entered since kindergarten. You had to practically reinvent yourself just to be free of any of the names you’d ever been called haunting every mirror you met. You prayed you wouldn’t recognize anyone, and moreover that no one would recognize you, especially those whomst had made you hate this town in the first place.
“You’re going to reap just what you sow,” sings your janky car radio as you cruise down Morehead Street, passing an abandoned house just as the Roane County Fairgrounds come into view. 
It had only just now occurred to you to consider whether or not you were dreaming as you silently sat in your car, staring past your rearview mirror and at the broken bulbs of the large and all too familiar ‘Adventureland’ sign. Last time you had caught even a glimpse of this place was in February of 1986, surely it couldn’t have been completely stranded since then?
The flecks of light snow you’d seen giving the place an almost powdered sugar finish last time, were now replaced with heavy and mangled vines, as well as wilder patches of moss. You could see that a bird had made itself a home in the ‘U’ of the buzzing sign, but there was no telling if it had belonged to the murder of crows that quickly flew away from the pavement at the creaky sound of your car door slamming once you stepped out of your station wagon.
It wasn’t the cold suddenly nipping at your nose that made you regret stepping out just as soon as you did, nor the fact that you were seemingly utterly alone. Rather, it was the slight prick of fear at the possibility that you weren’t.
Be it your intuition or not, you pushed that and all of your other worrying thoughts aside. Catching a peek of sunlight dancing on the broken glass of one of the carousel’s mirrors ahead of you, you used what little daylight there was left and the fact that there was still electricity powering the very broken sign as motivation to tread farther and approach the gates for a closer look at least.
Almost as if a sign to continue and no doubt only fueling your curiosity, you found the undone chain hanging from the rusted iron wickets of the gate to clearly have been cut with bolt cutters or something alike, as if anticipating your arrival. Determined to get at least half of what you came here for, and even more determined not to run away and cry at what might arguably be the biggest roadblock to your plans, you made your way inside the at least somewhat abandoned theme park.

The sound of metal scraping against the gravel of the ground made Eddie’s head snap toward the direction of the park entrance hundreds of feet away. Of course, thanks to his annoyingly heightened senses, he’d heard the sound of slightly balding tires screeching to a halt before that - but that itself wasn’t a rare occurrence here.
Occasionally, someone would journey too far past Forest Hills, only to find a more and more desolate and straight up abandoned version of Hawkins. But, like clockwork, they’d all turn right back around and rejoin the rest of society. This, along with the scavenging raccoons in the trash cans and squirrels climbing up and over the fences, or even the whisperings of things lurking in the woods nearby, were all sounds that Eddie had learned to ignore. In fact, most of his time here was spent trying to ignore all signs of life.
But this rare sound, a sound so rare he’d stopped worrying about locking the gates back up long ago, meant that not only was a human nearby, but now they were coming closer. 
So close, in fact, that he could smell the iron in her blood and hear just the faintest ‘thump, thump, thump,’ of her heart synchronizing with the steps she made drawing nearer and nearer to his hiding spot; his favorite ride when both he and Adventureland were alive, ‘Flight of Icarus.’
And man, Icarus sure was flying too close to the sun.

So nothing gets me out of a ten year writer's slump like Dragon Age, apparently. I was going to write a quick character study for my Rook, but then it took a life of its own and turned into a 5000+ word monstrosity.

At the Black Swan tavern in Minrathous, an elven man with bright red hair sat on a massive barrel, tuning a lute. At first glance, it would appear that he was entirely engrossed in the instrument. If they paid close attention, however, they would notice his green eyes dart imperceptibly from guest to guest as if taking stock of each person who entered the tavern. 
To be fair, this was exactly what Renan was doing. The Shadow Dragons had been given a tip that the Venatori were having a meeting here tonight. He had been given instructions to keep an eye on them, make a note of how many attended, and if there was anyone there he recognized. 
Ren was good at that, using his talent at the lute, voice, and good looks to get him information, and he used his particular skill set often. Sometimes, he played in chamber halls and ballrooms of the Minrathous elite, and they were goldmines, to be sure. But if he was honest, he preferred the establishments of the working class. One would be surprised at how much information could be gained at the taverns and brothels of the world. 
Even better, Ren was familiar with this particular tavern, having played here countless times before. 
‘See anything good yet, Hope?’ He thought through the bond to his spirit companion, currently flitting between the rafters somewhere. He thought he had caught a glimpse of black feathers once or twice, but he couldn’t be sure. 
‘No. Not yet.’ He heard her say. 
Suddenly, in his mind’s eye, he saw the vision of a mouse cleaning itself on one of the rafters, not noticing the great, winged beast lurking in the shadows a mere foot away.
‘Hope…’, Ren moaned internally, ‘I just fed you.’
‘Well, yes… But I am still hungry.’
‘Well, I don’t want to find puked-up mouse bones on my pillow tonight. Again.'
‘Ugh. Fine.’ Hope grumbled.
Ren could practically feel the eye roll from his companion, and he struggled to keep his face neutral. He was halfway through tuning a string to A when his own stomach began to grumble. He hadn’t had much to eat today, or at all, what little he did have going to fill his daughter Esana’s belly. 
‘Maybe I should catch a mouse for you to eat.’ He heard Hope say. 
‘Thanks, but no…’
‘When was the last time you ate?’
‘In the morning.’
‘Which morning?’
‘…’
‘Renan…’
‘…Yesterday.’
‘RENAN.’
Ren winced against the shrill voice echoing in his head. A man sitting at a table nearby gave him an odd look, to which Ren responded with a sheepish wave.
“Lute strings!” He said in way of explanation. “They don’t make them like they used to.”
The man merely grunted and went back to his tankard. 
‘Look, Hope.’ He said. ‘I promise I will get something to eat tonight after we’re through.’
‘I will hold you to that, Renan.’
The tavern began to fill in earnest as more workers ended their day shift. Amongst the crowd, Ren noticed a group of shifty-eyed men gathering at a nondescript table closer to the back of the bar. It had probably the worst lighting in the entire tavern, but the darkness made it particularly well suited for those who maybe didn’t want to be watched too closely, such as lovers…. Or secretive organizations.
Interesting…
‘Is Esana still in our room?’ Ren asked as he tuned a string to E flat. 
‘Yes,’ came Hope’s reply, ‘She was asleep when I left. Why?’
‘Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because I don’t want a repeat of last time, where she snuck out for an entire hour without anyone noticing after I explicitly told her not to?’
‘Ah, yes. Wherever does your daughter get her complete and utter disregard for authority? It is truly a mystery for the ages.’
Ren couldn’t help but laugh at that. Hope had become quite adept at using sarcasm over the years. 
‘Fair.’ He said. ‘I suppose she does come by it naturally.’
‘What is that mortal saying about apples and trees?’
‘Har har. Alright you made your point.’
Out of the corner of his eye, Ren saw a man walk in that he recognized. The thin, balding man was a Magister, albeit a low-ranking one. Ren couldn’t remember what the man actually did in the Magisterium, exactly, only that it was something asinine.
Asinine or note, that didn’t explain what he was doing here, of all places. The Black Swan was a little too plebeian for most Magisters.
‘Well, well.’ He thought ‘Look who’s slummin’ it up with the rest of us. Interesting.’
‘That is the man in charge of grain tax collection!’ He heard Hope say.
‘He is?’ Ren asked. ‘How do you know that?’
‘Because I pay attention, Renan.’
‘Oh… Well, I’m glad one of us does…’
Ren’s interest peaked even further as he watched as the magister walk to the back, taking a seat at the table with the group Ren had noticed earlier.
Very interesting…
‘Alright, it looks like the Venatori dinner party has started. Table in the back.’ He said. ‘Let’s get to work, shall we?’           
‘We shall. Good luck, Ren.’
‘You as well, Hope.’
Ren walked up the stairs to the small stage at the front of the bar. With a bright grin, he played the first few notes of the song on his lute and began to sing.
“Oh, come along with me, love.
Come along with me.
Come for one night and be my wife.
And come along with me.”
While still playing the notes to the chorus on the lute, Ren stopped singing to address the crowd.
“Grata! Bienviedo! Welcome good people of Minrathous.” He said. “My name is Rook, and I am here to add a little song to your evening. But enough with the pleasantries! The night is young, and I don’t know about you lot, but I am far, far too sober!”
His grin broadened as the crowd began to laugh and cheer. Ren heard a few of them shout, “Here, here!” and his playing grew stronger as he egged the crowd on further. 
“So, let’s raise a glass,” Ren crowed, “and let the night of drinking and debauchery begin!”
And, with that, he began to sing once more, his voice strong and clear.
“Well it is of a jolly butcher, as you might plainly see,
As he roved out one morning in search of company.
He went into a tavern and a fair girl he did see
And said ‘Come for one night and be my wife,
Oh come along with me!’”
Ren jumped off of the stage and began to weave in and around the tables as he continued his song. 
“He called for liquor of the best
And he made such fortune play
‘Come have a drink, it'll make us think
That it is our wedding day’”
‘I cannot hear them, Renan.’ He heard Hope’s voice say in his head as he played. ‘Distract them so I can fly down and slip underneath their table.’
Ren began to maneuver himself to the back of the bar, stopping every so often to play at another table to make it look less conspicuous. He danced around a waitress as she was carrying mugs of ale, giving her a bright smile that made her blush prettily. Finally, he stopped at the Venatori’s table, placing his foot on the edge of the table top with a thunk. Balancing his lute on his knee while he played, he leaned forward and winked at the Magister, who fumed. So focused were they all at the elf and his sheer audacity, that they didn’t notice the small black figure silently fly down from the rafters, dodge the various foot traffic, and tiptoe underneath the table.
‘I made it, Ren!’ Hope crowed, triumphantly.
Ren beamed at the crowd and continued his song.
“Well, he called for a candle to light their way to bed
And when he had her in the room these words to her he said
‘A sovereign I will give to you for to embrace your charms.’
And all that night, that fair young maid lied in the butcher's arms.
Oh, come along with me, love
Come along with me!
Come for one night and be my wife
And come along with me.
Well, about one year later he went roving out once more,
And he went into the tavern where he'd often been before.
He wasn't in there very long when his fair maid he did see,
And she brought forth a baby three months old and placed it on his knee.”
Some of the crowd began to chuckle as they realized where the song was going. Ren’s playing picked up in volume as he reached the punch line. 
“And when he saw the baby, he began to curse and swear
And he said unto that fair young maid, ‘Why did you bring him here?!’
‘Well, he is your own, kind sir’, she said, ‘Do not think me strange
Well, that sovereign that you gave to me, well I gives you back your change!’”
The crowd burst into raucous laughter, and Ren couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride as he finished the song.
“Oh, come along with me, love
Come along with me!
Come for one night and be my wife
And come along with me!”
With a flourish he played the last few chords as the crowd’s laughter turned into applause. He gave a bow, and as he stood back up he saw a flash of red dart through the crowd.
“Dammit.” He muttered. 
‘What happened?’ He heard Hope ask. He turned to the crowd.
“Thank you! You have been a wonderful audience!” Ren exclaimed. “Don’t forget to tip your waitresses! If you need me, I’ll be by the bar.”
The crowd quickly went back to their food and drink, and Ren made a beeline for the bar. 
‘I thought you said Esana was sleeping.’ He demanded through the bond. 
‘She was!’ The spirit replied. ‘I thought she was. Oh! But she might have been faking, now that I think about it. The snoring was a bit too loud.’
To which Ren could only groan.
The Maker had to have it out for him. That was the only explanation. 
‘Don’t move, Hope.’ He said. ‘Keep listening in on the Venatori. I want to have something to report back to the Dragons before the night is over.’
“Only one song tonight, Rook?” Asked one of the waitresses, Rosa, as she carried a tray full of food and drink.
“Can’t be helped, Rosa.” He said as he approached the bar. The barkeeper, a jovial older man with a wiry frame and bright eyes named Julius, poured him a glass of water with a knowing grin.
“Loose something?” He asked.
“Ugh.” Was Ren’s articulate response. Julius only laughed as Ren downed the water in one gulp before setting the glass back down on the counter with a thunk.
“You didn’t happen to see which way she went, did you?” Ren asked, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. 
“Aye. She snuck out the back door.” 
“Thank you, Julius.”
“Best of luck, Rook!”

Ren stepped outside, taking a deep breath of the cool night air to center himself. He needed to remain calm. Esana couldn’t have gotten far.
In the distance he heard the sound of cheering. Children cheering. He relaxed slightly; he had a feeling whatever was going on, Esana was probably around, if not directly involved.
He followed the sound of cheering until he turned a corner and found himself staring at a veritable horde of children all gathered around a circle. In the middle, playing what looked like a game of bones against an older human boy, was Esana.
“That looks like another game for me!” She exclaimed as she grabbed the copper pieces and put it in her already fairly substantial pile of winnings.
The boy didn’t seem too pleased. 
“That’s not fair!” He cried. “You cheated!”
“How do you cheat at bones, Dax?” One of the other children asked. Dax’s face only grew more red as the other children began to laugh. 
“Yeah, Dax.” Esana taunted as she began to count her winnings. “Don’t be a sore looser.”
“Why you-“
Whatever Dax was about to say was cut short by the sound of heavy footsteps coming down the alley. Out of the darkness, a behemoth of a man emerged. He had lank, dark hair that clung to his face and a scar that ran from one side of his neck to the other. He approached the children, most of whom had already scurried away, and sneered at them with yellowing teeth. 
“What do we have here?” The large man asked as he loomed over the children eyeing the pile of money. “You brats got some money for me?”
“No!” Esana cried. “That’s mine!” She stood up, putting herself between the man and the coin. 
Ren could have sworn his heart had stopped beating then, as he watched the giant man loom over his daughter. His daughter, who looked so very small standing in that man’s shadow. Thinking quickly, Ren grabbed a bottle from a nearby drunkard and flicked a coin his way before the man could complain too much.  
“What did you say, little knife ear?” The man sneered as he pulled an out a wicked looking dagger. “Perhaps I should teach you a lesson of what happens when pests like you talk back to your betters.”
Esana’s eyes widened as the knife was held merely inches from her face. The man made to grab her, but before he could do anything, Ren staggered out of the darkness as if drunk, practically barreling into the man. He made a show of spilling the contents of his bottle all over the man’s clothes. 
“M’so sorry, serah.” He said, slurring his words together. “It seems I-“ and he hiccuped here for effect “-I can’t seem to hold me liquor! Can’t seem to carry it neither.”
Ren gave his best drunken laugh as he pointed to the almost empty bottle of booze. Predictably, the man took the bait, grabbing Ren by the collar and shoving him hard against the wall. 
“Stupid elf! I should gut you here and now!” 
Too busy threatening him, the man didn’t notice Ren pull on the Fade, summoning flames in his left hand. 
“Gut me?” Ren asked, feigning innocence. “While you’re on fire?”
The man stared at Ren in confusion before bursting into laughter.
“On fire? You must be drunker than I-“
Suddenly, the man let out an inhuman screech as Ren held the flame against the man’s alcohol drenched clothes, quickly setting them ablaze with a satisfying woosh. The man dropped Ren as he tried to quickly strip off his burning clothes.
Ren, for his part, didn’t need to be told twice. Grabbing his daughter, he took off running down the narrow alley. 
They had made it almost halfway back to the Black Swan when he stopped to catch his breath. He looked down at his daughter and pulled her into his arms, hugging her tightly. Getting down on one knee he began to look her over.
“Are you alright?” He asked. “Did he hurt you?”
“No. I’m fine.” 
Ren nodded. That would have to do. For now, at least.
Together, father and daughter ran the rest of the way back to the Black Swan. When finally they arrived at the back entrance, the adrenaline seemed to leave Ren all at once, leaving him drained. He sank onto one of the large crates nearby, placing his head in his hands as the reality of what almost happened hit him like a druffalo. 
Esana stood there nervously, sensing, perhaps, that she had crossed a line somewhere. 
“Papa, I’m-“
Ren cut her off. 
“Esana,” he began, frustration filling the void where fear and adrenaline once were, “How many times have I told you that you cannot go out at night on your own?”
“I was just-“
“And yet, you continue to deliberately disobey me. And for what? A handful of coin?”
“It wasn’t just a handful…” she muttered. 
Something inside Ren snapped.
“HE COULD HAVE TAKEN YOU!” Ren shouted as he gripped his daughter’s shoulders desperately. “PAWNED YOU OFF AT THE SLAVE MARKET! OR WORSE, HE COULD HAVE KILLED YOU! DUMPED YOUR BODY SOMEWHERE AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN NONE THE WISER. WOULD THE COIN HAVE BEEN WORTH IT THEN? WELL?”
Hot, angry tears streamed down Esana’s face as she pulled herself out of her father’s grip and ran into the tavern. Ren tried to grab her but she was too quick.
“Esana!” He yelled. “Esana get back here!”
Instead, he heard the sound of a door slamming from upstairs, where the guest rooms were. He looked around the tavern and noticed that it was mostly empty, save for a few stragglers who seemed too deep into their cups to notice the elven family drama going on around them. He also noticed a distinct lack of Venatori. They must have left earlier as well. 
Shit.
With a sigh, Ren felt all of the previous anger bleed out of him, leaving him bone-tired. With great effort, Ren dragged himself to the bar, rubbing at his eyes before anyone could see the moisture in them. 
“Julius,” he called, “Can I have another glass of water, please?”
The barkeep popped out from the kitchen, a bowl of something heavenly smelling in one hand and a tall glass of water in the other.
“I’ll do you one better.” He said, setting the bowl, some sort of stew, in front of Ren. “Here, eat. You look like you’re about to keel over where you stand.”
“Julius, you are a gentleman and a scholar.”
“Yes, yes. Tell me something I don’t know.”
Ren took a few spoonfuls before his appetite left him entirely as the monster currently gnawing at his stomach felt more akin to guilt than hunger. He stirred the soup in lazy circles with his spoon, occasionally making a half-hearted attempt at taking a bite before giving up entirely. 
“I need to go talk to Esana.” He said with a sigh.
“Rook, wait…”
Ren looked up and was surprised to see the old barkeep looking at him with eyes full of understanding… and a bit of sorrow.
“I don’t usually tell people this for obvious reasons, but… my father was also a freeman.” He said. “And an elf, too.”
Ren’s eyes widened. A lot of things about Julius suddenly made sense. The slight build, the bright eyes…
The easiness in which he accepted Ren and Esana… 
He looked at the man in a whole new light then, silently wondering how he never noticed the way Julius’s ears tapered to a point, a tell-tale sign of the man’s heritage.
“I’ll be.” Ren exclaimed. “I’d had no idea I was in the presence of a fellow knife-ear. I’ll make you a flower crown. Maybe even show you some of my favorite places to frolic naked in the moonlight.”
“I am quite capable of going to a whore house on my own, thank you.”
Both men burst into laughter, loud enough in the almost empty tavern to draw the attention of the last remaining guests. The confused stares sobered both men up fairly quickly, and Julius continued whatever point he was getting at.
“Before I was born,” he said, “my father had somehow managed to buy his and my mother’s freedom. Never did quite figure out how he managed to pull it off...”
Julius’s eyes grew distant as he stared at something only he could see. After a moment, he blinked, and turned his attention back to Ren. In all the years he had known the man, Ren had never seen an expression so solemn on his face as he did now.
“When I was Esana’s age, I also never… appreciated the sacrifices my father had made for my family. For me... And Maker, there were so many…”
“And you do now?” Ren asked.
“Aye.” Said Julius. “I do now. Very much so. And I know it doesn’t seem like it now, but Esana will too.”
Ren considered the older man’s words as he took a few more bites of his stew. He pushed himself off of the counter and dusted himself off. 
“Thank you, Julius.” He said. “For everything.”
“Anytime, Rook.“
Ren made his way up the stairs and down the hall to where he and Esana were staying. As quietly as he could, he crept in, closing the door behind him. 
They were fortunate enough to stay in a room with two cots this time, an upgrade to their usual fair. He noticed that the cot on the left was occupied by a relatively Esana sized lump buried underneath the blankets. On the desk , underneath an open window, was a rook. It sat atop a wooden perch as it cleaned its feathers with its long, grey beak. 
Hearing the door close, it looked up and flew over to where Ren sat on the empty cot, silently landing on his knee.
“Hey, Hope.” He uttered.
“…Why is your doublet singed?” Was the spirit’s response.
“Good to see you too.”
“Renan…”
Ren looked down at his doublet, his favorite one too, and, sure enough, he noticed singe marks all long the bottom hem. 
And lo, did the Maker say “Fuck this Elf in particular.” He thought.
“I suppose it does not matter. I am sure it can be fixed.” Hope said kindly. Then, through the bond, he heard: ‘Esana was very upset, but she would not tell me what happened.’
‘She decided to pick fights with grown men and then I lost my temper and yelled at her.’
‘Ah. I see.’
Hope climbed up Ren’s arm to perch on his shoulder.
“I think I am going to go out.” She announced. “Stretch my wings for a bit.”
“Have fun.”
Hope rubbed up against his cheek affectionately, nuzzling him much like she had when he was a boy, newly arrived in the Tevinter Imperium and being sold off like chattel.
‘You can fix this.’ He heard her say through the bond. 
With that, Hope flew out the open window and into the warm summer’s night, leaving father and daughter alone to talk. After a minute or two of sitting silently in the dark, Ren spoke.
“I know you’re awake, Esana.” He said. “Can we talk? Please?”
A loud sniffle from underneath the covers was the only response he got. With a sigh, Ren pulled off his boots and set them neatly by his bedside table.
“It’s ok, Esana. You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to.” He said as he took off his now singed doublet. “I’ll talk then, ok?”
Ren took a moment to gather his thoughts. He stared down at his hands, looking at the small knicks and callouses from years of playing the lute. He unbuttoned the cuffs of his shirt, and let the loose sleeves reveal old scar tissue across his wrists from where too-heavy shackles had rubbed his skin raw years ago. They certainly weren’t pretty, which was part of the reason why he always covered them, but they weren’t the worst of his scars. He knew his back was a gnarled web of lash marks, fifty in total. They still ached from time to time, too…
He made a vow, long ago, that the Imperium would never hurt him, or his loved ones, ever again. And he intended to keep that promise.
“I love you, Esana.” He said, finally. “And I am very sorry that I yelled at you like I did. I shouldn’t have lost my temper.”
In the darkness, Ren saw two bright blue eyes (her mother’s eyes, he thought distantly) peek out from underneath the covers, watching him warily. Taking that as progress, he continued.
“The truth is, I was scared. What you did was incredibly dangerous. I truly thought that man was going to hurt you, and that terrified me.”
Esana crawled out from underneath the covers and sat on the edge of the bed, hunched over and refusing to look anywhere but her bare feet. Ren noticed that she was already in her nightgown. She must have changed after she stormed upstairs. 
With a small smile, Ren patted the empty space beside him in invitation. Esana quickly crossed the short distance to sit with her father, but still refused to look up at him, even after he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer to his side. 
“I just wanted to help.” She said miserably, swiping at her eyes as fresh tears  began to fall. “I thought that if I could earn money like you do, then you would let me join you for once.” 
“Esana…”
“I just wanted to be like you. I’m tired of being treated like a baby.”
Ren tucked an errant lock of red hair behind his daughter’s ear. 
“Esana,” he said, “I don’t need you to be like me. In fact, that’s the last thing in the world I want you to be. And while I appreciate the help, I’m your father. It’s my job to take care of you, not the other way around.” 
“But I want to help!” Esana cried, almost desperately. “I want to be out there, with you!”
Ren chewed his bottom lip as he pondered Esana’s words. He certainly did not want to expose her to the drunks of Minrathous, but he also knew that soon she would be turning thirteen. Too old to stay willingly cloistered away. Maybe he could bring her along every now and then, introduce her little by little to his world in a way where he could monitor her and keep her safe, rather than having her go out behind his back…
Still, he couldn’t help but feel he was missing something. Something important. There was a frantic edge to Esana’s pleading that Ren couldn’t understand. Not for the first time, Ren wished his wife were still alive. Leena would have known what to do. She was good at that sort of thing.
“I’ll tell you what,” Ren began, cupping his daughter’s chin gently, “how about I teach you how to play that spare flute I have? Then, you could play with me. Sometimes.”
Esana stared up at her father with wide, disbelieving eyes. 
“Sometimes!” He reiterated. “Only the jobs that I think are safe, ok?”
“Really?” she asked, excitement and a strange tinge of something akin to relief shining in her eyes.
“Yes.” Ren laughed. “Really.”
Esana launched herself at him, wrapping him in a tight hug which he returned without a thought. 
“I love you, papa.” She said.
“I love you, too, Esana.”
Not long after Ren noticed his daughter’s eyelids grow heavy and her shoulders begin to droop. He chuckled as he watched her try to stifle a yawn.
“Alright little Nuglette, I think that’s enough excitement for one day. To bed with you.” 
“Ok, papa.” Esana murmured sleepily as she crawled back into her own cot. Suddenly, that frantic edge that Ren noticed earlier returned.
“Papa…” she said, “Could I stay in your cot? Until I fall asleep?”
“Sure.” Ren said with a small smile.
Esana quickly scurried from her cot to join her father. She snuggled herself up against him, and he felt her relax as if she had been holding in some sort of tension. 
“Esana,” Ren asked as she tucked herself in the crook of his arm, “Is everything alright?”
Esana hastily nodded, not quite looking her father in the eye. Ren sighed.
“You know you can talk to me, right?”
Another nod. 
“Ok. Good night, Esana. Sweet dreams.”
Ren didn’t notice Esana wince at the mention of dreams. He didn’t notice his daughter squeeze her eyes shut, desperately trying not to think of the monsters in her dreams that hounded her, begging her to let them in. 
Instead Ren began to sing softly, voice barely above a whisper as he sang an old Elvish lullaby, one that his own mother sang to him when he was little. It didn’t take long for Esana to drift off into the Fade. No nightmares plagued her this time, safe as she was in her father’s arms and a song promising only pleasant things echoing in her ears. 
For Ren, however, sleep evaded him despite his exhaustion. If he was honest with himself, he didn’t mind and was content to watch the rise and fall of Esana’s chest as his daughter slept soundly, snuggled up against him. Truth be told, he cherished moments such as these because he knew that sooner rather than later, his daughter would grow too old to cuddle with her papa. For now, though, he placed a kiss upon his little girl’s brow and held her as tightly as he could without waking her.
He didn’t know how long he stayed like that, only that it was near dawn when Hope flew in through the window, the first rays of light gently reflecting off of her feathers, giving them a purplish hue. 
“Morning, Hope.” Whispered Ren as he watched her land on the bedside table. 
“Good morning, Renan.” She whispered back. “I am happy to see you two worked it out.”
“Yeah. Me too.” Ren shifted slightly to face his friend. “You were gone an awfully long time. Did something happen?”
“I ran into Neve Gallius. She would like you to meet her later this evening.” 
“Ah… and what did our favorite Ice Queen want? Did she say?”
“Only that she would like to introduce you to an aquantence of hers. Some sort of… novelist?”
“Of course she does…” Ren murmured tiredly, not really paying attention. 
They stayed like that for a while, enjoying the silence of the early morning. Ren was just about to finally drift off to sleep when Hope looked up from where she was preening her feathers and stared out of the window with an unusually concerned expression.
“Renan…” she whispered, so quietly Ren barely heard her. 
“Mmm?”
“There is a storm coming.” Was all she said.

Little did Ren know, as he later found himself staring up at the terrifying visages of his Dalish mother's myths, how true those words were about to become.

Mortal kombat: Heartful mayhem
Prologue
A/N: I knew a prologue is not really necessary on a Tumblr fanfiction, but i did it anyway since i want to write a novel level one (this is my first time writing a fanfic for the internet but idc).
It's a quiet afternoon. Jacqueline Briggs is sitting alone in the room full of computers, apparently in front of one of them, looking very focused. She looks through the files that had been entering the S.F.'s database for a few days now.
Those files in question are reports coming from squads that were sent one after the other to patrol and scavenge a specific area of Outworld, which is somewhere in the desert.
The investigation of these strange occurences of this location was placed into Jacqui's care by Cassandra Cage, her Commander, her best friend.
Jaqueline has been investing for at least five days now. It all started when odd fires were occuring in the already hot desert of Outworld.
The soldier reads the files of the most recent squad that retreated from the desert yesterday in the evening.
Suddenly, the door opens. Jacqui looks at it with surprise.
"Hey Jacqui. You found anything?" It's Cassandra, coming with a freshly made cup of coffee in one hand, checking on her friend.
Jacqui looks back at the screen. "No. Still nothing moved since yesterday." She sighted, slightly disappointed.
Commander Cage looks at a chair and rolls it towards her.
"Dawn. Nothing?." She asks as she takes a seat and approaches Jacqui's desk.
"That's odd. I thought the thermal signatures would have moved right now."
"They're isn't though". Jacqui said back.
"It hasn't been moving for hours now. The source of the fire probably went dormant on our radars."
Cassie takes a sip of coffee, looks down upon her chair and sights. "And we sent all these troops for four days. Jeez... if i knew that it would be a pain in the ass to identify the source of that fire, i would've speared the skin of these men." Some soldiers came back with first degree burns, others were heavily bruised. A few are still recovering at the nursery.
Jacqui glimpses worrysomely at her friend, then remembers something. "You know? I've got something interesting that caught my eye earlier."
Cage looks back at Briggs dragging the mouse around the screen and clicks on a picture icon in the report.
"Look." She says as she points at the blurry photo.
Cassie examines it closely. "Huh... all i see is some pink fire." She keep looking it in silence. "Hang on! What the hell is that?" Cassie points an odd shape that seems humanoid.
"I know." Jacqui responds "I also believe it's this thing that was firing up at our troops and injure them. It seem to be resisting our forces."
Cassie thinks longly about the matter.
"What is it commander?" Jacqui asked.
"We need to send people who are more skilled for this." Cassie responds. "If we continue sending our normal troops, they're will be more casualities. We literally can't risk it anymore."
Jacqui looks away briefly from Cassie, then questions "Well, who do you think we should call to go back there?"
"Come on... you know who." Cassie smirks.
"Oh." Jacqui realises who she is talking about.
Cassie storms out of the room, on her way to give a call or two for tommorow's preparations. Meanwhile, Jacqui is inserting names into the investigation's team file.
There were only two names added. But they knew how important they were for the case, and knew they won't fail it...

Summary: your first mission for the Brotherhood, you were hoping to be assigned to Paladin Danse but instead you were paired with a high-ranking mysterious Paladin...

"Feels like you can take on the world in there, doesn't it?", Danse chuckled.
You walked around in your new power armor, moving your fingers and checking the settings appearing on your visor within the helmet.
"This is not my first time but damn this thing has improved a lot since I last used it", you exclaimed excitedly.
"Well let's get you on the flight deck, vertibird's waiting."
The paladin headed towards the door, holding in open for you as you stepped through.
"You're joining without the armor?"
"I'm not joining at all, I've been assigned to remain on the Prydwen for now."
Danse shrugged as you approached the vertibird stationed at the end of the flightdeck. It felt strange to see him without his armor after spending so much time together at the police station. Without it, he seemed incomplete, like a turtle stripped of its protective shell. Before you could ask about your fellow soldier on this mission, your eyes caught sight of an individual donning a T-60f power armor standing in the doorway of the vertibird. This particular suit of armor stood out from the others you had encountered on the ship thus far. Its surface was covered in scratches, with blood-red accents carefully painted across its black exterior. The emblem of the Brotherhood was proudly displayed on the chest plate in bold white. Despite wearing an armor yourself, you suddenly felt small standing in the presence of this soldier. With a wave of his hand, he gestured for you to find a seat inside the vertibird. Nervously settling into the designated spot, you stole a glance back at Danse, who offered you an encouraging smile and a thumbs-up as the vertibird began its ascent. As the Prydwen gradually disappeared from view, the paladin clad in black armor finally broke the silence.
"So you're the new recruit, the lady out of time. Freshly arrived just yesterday."
He sounded young despite his voice being distorted by the tech in his helmet. You simply nodded, allowing him to continue speaking, hoping to gather some insight before having to say anything yourself.
"I caught a glimpse of you scrubbing the latrines this morning. What did you do to piss off the Elder already on your first day?", he jeered, the visor of his helmet fixed on your figure as he leaned in closer.
"I gave him the wrong answer", you nonchalantly shrugged, "what did you do to piss him off?"
"What makes you think I did?", the paladin cocked his head slightly, displaying a hint of confusion.
"You seem to be one of the higher-ups, yet here you are, babysitting the new recruit on her maiden mission", you challenged him, your amused grin lost behind the metal plate of your helmet.
"Quite observant, timeless lady", he burst into laughter, "but you're mistaken, I'm not punished. I'm just here to make sure the muties don't kill you on sight. Courtesy of the Elder, not every fresh recruit has the pleasure of my company. You must be pretty special."
He extended his arms, tilting his heard slightly down in a mocking bow. You were starting to like whoever this was and made a mental note to dedicate some time to find out his identity as soon as you were back. However, your thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the whizzing bullets that narrowly missed the aircraft, some of them making contact with its metal surface with a loud clink.
“Time to wipe those dirty mutants from the face of the earth”, the Paladin bellowed as he aimed down with his gatling laser.
That sentence struck a nerve but before you could dedicate another thought to it, a bullet grazed your helmet causing you to instinctively grab the minigun and unleash a barrage of gunfire. More and more super mutants gathered in front of the large building.
"Shiiiit", you shouted in shock, your eyes darting to another mutant towering over the many others.
You had seen the first super mutants around Diamond City but this one was huge. A bone-chilling roar erupted from the creature as it through boulders towards the aircraft, one of them hitting the tail. The vertibird wavered mid-flight and began its descent. Fortunately, the final super mutant collapsed lifeless onto the ground just as the landing gear touched down.
"I gotta hightail back to the Prydwen for repairs", the pilot shouted from her cockpit.
"Send reinforcements, we'll secure Fort Strong and the armory", the Paladin responded, gesturing for you to follow.
A tense silence settled over the outskirts of the fort as the aircraft vanished into the sky. Your grip tightened on your gatling laser as you trailed behind your superior, muscles taut with anticipation, scanning the perimeter for any potential threats.
"First Behemoth?"
You almost jumped at his unexpected question interrupting the fragile silence.
"Yes", you sighed, "to be honest, my first encounter with a deathclaw was less frightening. But then again I was standing on a roof and it didn't hurl boulders at me."
The paladin chuckled, giving your armor a playful pat before coming to a halt at the front entrance.
"Watch your step in there, danger lurks around every bend", he warned you as his hand moved towards the door.
"Wait!", your fingers wrapped around the metal plate on his arm, preventing him from entering, "you never told me what I should call you."
He seemed to ponder for a moment as if he was not sure how to respond before he finally spoke up.
"Humour me. What would you call me?"
"Pendragon", the name slipped from your lips before you even had a chance to think about it.
"Explain", he now turned towards you, curious as to why you'd choose such a mythical name.
"I don't know", you shrugged, "it's the first name that came to mind. Back then at school, before the Great War, I was fascinated by the legend of king Arthur, his full name being Arthur Pendragon. I can't quite explain it, but my intuition tells me it suits you."
"I like it", he chuckled genuinely before entering the building.
You released a trembling breath and activated the radio on your Pip-Boy, which you had connected to your armor. Whatever awaited you inside, music would help alleviate the nerve-wracking tension.

You were greeted by a few angry super mutants and their ferocious hounds. It proved challenging to navigate the room while confined in your power armor; the helmet provided protection but also limited your field of vision, making it difficult to evade the barrage of attacks from the enemy. Painfully slow, the Paladin and you fought your way up to the top floor, only pausing briefly when the final mutant fell lifeless to the ground. The building was all too quiet now, almost eery, with only the occasional creaking of decaying floorboards beneath your feet breaking the stillness. Your stomach churned as the ghostly quietness transformed into a foreboding premonition.
"I don't trust this", you whispered.
The Paladin turned around, raising a finger as if he wanted to point out something when a ghastly growl reverberated from the doorway next to him. Before any of you could react, a mutant burst through the door, the wood splintering into thousands fragments, and it lunged the Paladin, forcing both of them on the ground. With an eerie, creaking sound, the floor beneath them gave way, and they plummeted to the level below. You rushed towards the hole, trying to not fall yourself as peered over the edge. A gasp escaped your lips as you witnessed the subsequent floorboards break apart, sending the Paladin and the mutant hurtling even further down into the basement. The Paladin's cries were abruptly silenced as his head collided with the unforgiving concrete floor, his immobile armor bearing witness to the impact. Before the mutant could gather itself to resume its attack on your fellow Brotherhood comrade, you jumped down the two floors through the same hole, your feet landing next to them with a metallic thud on the solid concrete, whirling a cloud of the centuries old dust that had settled. You launched yourself at the mutant, hurling him against the close-by wall, your fist punching continuously into his face, ceasing your assault only when nothing but a bloody pulp remained and the mutant's lifeless body slumped on the floor.
You rushed towards the Paladin, calling out to him while tapping in his helmet but you didn't get any response. You decided to lift him up and turned the wheel at the back, opening the armor to get him out and check for any serious injuries. Your breath got caught in your throat as you recognised the limp body that slid out from within the protective shell.
"Elder", you whispered as you gently placed him on the ground.
You got out of your own armor, sitting down in front, leaning your back against the cool metal of the leg plate as you pulled Maxson towards you, carefully cradling his head in your lap. He looked almost peaceful, his characteristic stern expression washed away with his muscles fully relaxed and the creases in his face gone. It was the first time you truly noticed how handsome and youthful he actually looked. Your fingertips traced over his features, a smile forming on your lips as they brushed against his surprisingly soft beard. Just as you were about to examine his scar more closely, he stirred, his brows furrowing and a strained grunt escaping his throat as his eyes slowly fluttered open. He blinked several times in confusion before his gaze settled on your smiling frame.
"Are you alright?"
He huffed in response, lifting his upper body up with your help, burying his face in his hands, grumbling in pain as he stood up. Noticing his shaky legs, you quickly positioned yourself beside him, gripping his torso to provide support until he seemed steady enough to stand on his own.
"I feel like I've been trampled by a pack of deathclaws", he groaned, rubbing his neck.
"Oh, it was just a super mutant throwing you two floors down. Nothing to worry about", you chuckled, shrugging your shoulders innocently.
Maxson offered you a faint grin, too exhausted and sore to maintain his usual demeanour. His eyes darted towards the headless mutant corpse and then to the glove of your armor where he spotted some blood and brain matter still dripping down from.
"You punched it to a pulp?", the genuine surprise in his voice amused you.
"Couldn't let it kill the only other soldier on my very first mission, it wouldn't look good on my record. And besides, I'm relieved that you're awake and relatively unharmed. I was starting to worry that I'd have to report to the Brotherhood that their leader had perished on a mission with a rookie recruit."
The Elder huffed out a laugh you hadn't heard from him yet. Without the distortion of the helmet, it sounded jaunty, its unburdened joy echoing through the room.
"So, shall I still call you Pendragon or are we back to Elder?"
Maxson noticed the mischievous gleam in your eyes, a sight that held a beauty which would most certainly haunt him all night.
"No need for me to hide my identity any longer", he shrugged as he got back into his armor, the metallic plates closing with a whir and a resounding click, "so you found and secured the armory. Now we only need to wait for the others."
"Well technically, Elder, you found it first by crashing through the ceiling", you joked as you got into your own armor again.
"You're right, we have our new weapons all thanks to my full physical effort, Knight", he threw his arms in the air.
You snorted, unable to take in that this was the very same man who condemned you to clean the latrines for not agreeing with him.
"That fall must have been really bad if you of all people are cracking jokes, Elder", you said until a sudden realisation hit you, "did you call me Knight?"
"You deserve a promotion after today's performance even if I couldn't witness the best part of it. And don't get too comfortable with my jokes, once we're back on the Prydwen, you'll respect the hierarchy again. Are we clear, Knight?"
His tone shifted towards the same stern annoyance it carried yesterday.
"Yes, Elder", you replied, a smile creeping across your face from beneath the protection of your helmet.

Because I was asked for the animagus short. 😂
I don't mention what animagi they are because it would be spoilery for my other story. But I carefully picked ones that matched their personalities.
I hope you enjoyed this short.

The lazy day
It was an exceptionally warm day, you were laying in the sun with Ominis, almost asleep.
By the soft snores, he was long passed asleep with his tail curled around you.
To anyone passing by, you'd look like two animals sleeping in a clearing close to beast's class. Well hidden though, just in case a student decided to wander too close.
"I must admit, this was actually a pretty good idea," you said, mostly to yourself.
Ominis swished his ear towards you. "It does make lazy days better. No one can find you easily unless-"
Sebastian and Anne raced towards you, both happily laughing.
"What did you two now?" Ominis asked, his head pointed in their direction.
"Come on!" Anne yelled zipping by, closely followed by Sebastian.
"But I was warm," you complained, earning a chuckle.
That was before you heard someone racing towards you. The flapping noises made your ears flatten backwards.
You two quickly climbed to your feet and bolted after the twins, hoping no one caught a glimpse of you.
The twins were up by the owlery, overlooking the school, panting heavily as you and Ominis approached.
"What did you two do?" You asked, looking in the direction they were.
Chaos was unfolding as Madam Scribner looked around furiously, her attack books nearby, dumbfounded.
"You went into the restricted section again?" You hissed, getting Ominis to sigh.
"Just to steal the right books," Anne replied while laughing. "We're luring her to the right spot."
Your eyes drifted up to the ramparts, seeing Peeves hurtle something at her, which covered the librarian in green slop.
"How did you get Peeves to help you?"
Ominis chuckled, shaking his head.
"He's still sour about her yelling at him in the library yesterday," Anne answered, half bouncing in place. "So, we offered to lure her to a certain spot."
"Wait, you did this for Peeves?" Ominis asked.
"He'd think twice before turning us in, right?"
"Now, you're wishing on a star Sebastian. The most you did was give him a target. He has a whole school worth of those."
He stretched as if to shrug. "Well, we do know the books can't follow you if you turn into an animal. That'll be helpful."
Anne snickered as Ominis sighed.
"I wonder if you'll ever grow out of this."
It was pretty trying, especially when they promised you a day of relaxation.
"That attitude right there is the reason you didn't get a fun animagus form," Sebastian replied, narrowing his eyes.
"I think theirs suit them." All of you jumped as Natty and Poppy came close, laughing at your reactions. "You'd think we didn't know about you, with that response."
"No, Anne and Sebastian just helped Peeves slop the librarian," you replied, getting them to look over your shoulder.
Their exasperated expressions mirrored yours and Ominis's.
"We should get off this hill before someone looks up. We don't exactly fit well together in the animal kingdom."
You nodded, moving after everyone. "Didn't you have a date with Garreth?"
Poppy half squealed. "I'm excited to hear all about it. You two are good together. Just like them."
You looked over seeing her looking at you and Ominis.
"Weasley is basically a destructive weapon. Anne could do way better."
All of you snickered as Anne glared at her brother.
"So, are we going to tell him about our animagus days once you two start officially dating?" Natty asked, smiling at Sebastian's eye roll.
"We'll see. He and I haven't even gone on our first date yet."
A loud explosion from somewhere in the castle, made all of you jump, your sharp ears picking it up.
"Oh, I think Weasley'll have better things to do tonight."
"Sebastian!" Natty and Poppy grumbled together.
"What did you do?" Anne asked, jumping on her brother's back and ended up rolling down the rest of the hill.
Natty and Poppy quickly raced after them, laughing the whole way.
Ominis sighed softly. "They're a handful."
Smirking, you looked his way. "You sound like a dad looking at his cubs."
Natty was watching as Poppy jumped on Sebastian's side to help Anne pin him down.
"I feel like one half the time," he admitted, his voice betraying how he enjoyed seeing it. "If our kids are like them, I may need to retire early."
You almost stumbled. "Our kids?"
He fell quiet and hurried after the group, making you chuckle.
It was nice to know he was thinking about a future with you. It made you hopeful and happy to look forward to it.
