Hello pagans and polytheists of Tumblr. As you may or may not know Spain is going through a flash fall. At least 100 people have lost their lives. Even though the rain will probably stop tomorrow, there's no way to know how long it'll take to rebuild the towns that have been swept away.

As humans and pets are being helped by family, friends and neighbours, I want to share some resources here to help those animals that lived in shelters until two days ago. If you are devoted to any deity related to animals or to any of these animals in particular, please consider donating as an act of worship.

Refugio Minipow gave shelter to 50 bunnies and guinea pigs. Luckily the owners have been able to evacuate all the animals to both their and their neighbours houses, but the shelter has been destroyed and they had just finished reforms. There's different ways to donate here.

Modepran is a dog shelter. The infrastructure has been damaged and some animals don't have a box to sleep in anymore. You can donate through PayPal here.

El Refugio de María is a dog shelter. The whole place is completely flooded and the poor dogs look so confused as you can see here. You can donate to PayPal maria.g.may@gmail.com

Nemoralia and the birthday of Goddess Diana

As I wasn't able to celebrate Nemoralia two days ago, I thought I'd make a post about it today. Nemoralia was a festival in honour of Goddess Diana. This festival was originally held at Diana's temple in Aricia, current day Nemi (50 minutes away from Rome by car).

May this informational post honor the goddess and help those that want to celebrate this festival.

August 13 - Diana's Dies Natalis

This was thought to be Diana's dies natalis (birthday) by members of the collegium of Diana and Antinous in Lanuvium.

Everyone took part in this festival though the main focus were women. As told by Plutarch, on this day, for reasons unknown nowadays, they washed their hair in a special ritual.

Enslaved people got this day off as they were under the protection of the goddess (worth to keep in mind that Diana's priest at Lake Nemi was always a runaway enslaved man). Male citizens and masters were able to participate in this festival but they were required to be on equal terms with women and enslaved people.

As this is one of the hottest days of the year, the celebrations started at night. Worshipers adorned not only their heads with flowers crowns, but also the heads of their dogs as they also took part in the celebration. Hunting or killing animals in any way was forbidden on this day. Horses were forbidden from entering this area.

At night, worshipers assembled at the Sanctuary and walked in a procession around Lake Nemi while holding candles or torches, similar to the ones Vestal Virgins carried. People wrote petitions on ribbons and tied them on tree branches and they also left votive offerings at the temple, especially related to part of the body in need of healing.

How to celebrate in current day

Make an offering to Diana. Some ideas are baking moon-shaped cakes, pouring wine, cutting a flock of your hair for her or lighting a special candle. You could also read a hymn in her honour.

Wash your hair or go to the hair salon to get a trim. Adorn it with flower crowns.

If you have a dog, pamper them!! Wash them, take them on a longer walk than usual, buy then special treats... The possibilities are endless.

Write your petitions in a ribbon and tie it in a tree branch. If you don't have any trees near you could also tie it to any plants you're growing at home or bury it in the ground.

Donate to good causes, foundations or shelters related to women, animals or those in need. The world really needs that right now.

If you are near Nemi, go to the ruins of the goddess' temple. People still give her flowers til this day. Also the council of Nemi celebrates Nemoralia since 2016, though I think this year was discontinued since I wasn't able to find any information about it.

The program is formed by different types of activities, from history or art lectures to guided tours or nature walks.

What's the actual date of Nemoralia?

There's a lot of confusion online about what the actual date of Nemoralia is, with some people saying it's only celebrated on the 13th, others saying it's on the 15th and others saying is a three day festival.

It's believed that at first it was celebrated on the full moon but during the Roman Republic it was set on August 13, as back then that's when the full moon happened. This has led modern scholars like Frazer to think that the festival may extended over a few days instead of just one.

So, when to celebrate? If you want to follow the Roman calendar, it should be on August 13. However, if you want to celebrate on a full moon like ancient worshipers would have, then it depends on the year (in 2024 it would be on August 19).

Additionally, since it's believed Nemoralia became the Assumption of Mary through syncretism with Catholicism, you may want to choose August 15 to celebrate, because if you live in a Catholic country or canton you'll most likely get a day off from work - which means more time to celebrate!

Diana/Hecate

I wanted to yap about upg as it relates to Diana/Hecate for a sec, and see if anyone else felt similarly?

Diana and Hecate have always been part of Trivia for me, so theyre the same goddess (or comflaited so heavily together they appear to be similar) so in part theyre both part of the Trivia epithet. I usually venerate them with Persephone in a phases of the moon kind of way. Diana the waxing/full, Persephone the waning, and Hecate the dark.

Threes are so important for me in this oddly vast relationship, so also Diana as a goddess of three way crossroads, and the Sky (heavenly), Earth (woods/earth) or ocean, and the Underworld.

Ive been beginning to wonder if the motherly energy ive felt at the ocean might be Hecate or Diana. I know Diana might have roots as a river spirit of sorts and i wonder if it might corelate. I felt Her (ocean mother) presence in storms as well. Ive begun to wonder if i can associate her with the water cycle and the memory that water holds. As it doesnt get created nor destroyed, it just seems to fit. But idk that's still up in the air. I feel like that dude with all the red string on the board when I think about all the ways they interact/associate them.

Steph and Tim:

I love the idea of Tim or Steph being mortal and struggling to feel of any value when their predecessors were the kids of gods.

But like it only works if one of them is Mortal because I feel like Tim won’t feel out of place for long enough before Steph comes around to maximise angst potential (if my understanding of the timeline is correct) And Steph probs wouldn’t feel inferior mortality wise if Tim is also Mortal.

Like it’s gottta be one or the other if you get what I’m saying.

Duke:

I love the idea that Duke is mortal but still a Meta so he doesn’t feel as out of place with his powers because it’s normal in the world of Gods and maybe as a result the kids know how to help him. But he has to adjust to the idea that they exist and some of the bad guys they fight that may look like mob members aren’t they’re monsters and at first he can’t see that but then eventually he learns to see through the mist using his powers somehow.

Babs:

I love mortal Babs who just stubborns her way into the family business. I think it really helps to establish her determination.

Bruce:

I have the idea that Bruce is a legacy and thus clear sighted and that’s part of why he became Batman. Because he saw all these horrible monsters that most people don’t know are there and he couldn’t stand the thought of demigod children being forced to fight against them before some of them even have any training. Thus the Batman deals with his regular real world threats like the joker and the mob while also killing what monsters he can to make the world just a little bit safer for the demigod children out there

yeah i was thinking abt mortal tim and steph- it would absolutely be fantastic for the angst angle- tim feeling as if hes not as good as dick and jason who are demigods. mortal steph would also be interesting and i was also considering it just because i cant really find a parent that fits her. her being mortal would also add to her angst aspect, feeling like shes not good enough for the batfam because theyre all powerful, etc etc…

duke i do want to not be involved in the greek world at first. him as just a regular meta would also play into how different he is from the other bats normally- the only meta, the daytime bat, yknow. it would be really interesting to see how his powers could also affect his understanding of the greek stuff, how he could potentially see through the mist a bit, even if not a lot. i made a post on how he might be more affected by the godly aspects of them, how he may see their eyes as being a bit too… inhuman and how their veins seem to be a bit too gold (also how if he ever were to run into a god he might see them brighter than anyone else does.) just a lot of good stuff to consider with duke.

babs i def want to be mortal. she starts off as mortal- clearsighted or not, and then learns about everything via dick or bruce. im thinking post TKJ, after she takes on oracle she might get a visit from apollo who gives her something, unsure what. so yeah mortal babs with a blessing from apollo.

and yeah, bruce is either a clearsighted mortal, a mortal who learned abt the greek world (whether it be thru diana or somewhere else) and made himself see thru the mist, or a legacy. and yes should deal with both the regular criminals and monsters. im thinking wayne manor could be a safeplace for some demigods in gotham. idk bruce is a demigod magnet.

(it could also be interesting to explore alfreds role in this- ive seen some stuff for hestie son/devotee alfred, or satyr alfred- and i think having him be some sort of magic could be intriguing. he could potentially set of the same kind of forcefield around wayne manor to keep monsters out. might be worth looking into hecate kid alfred?)

Diary of Reconnecting with Venus - Day 5

Today I very much needed the downtime of reflection with Venus. I unfortunately didn't have time for a candle- but I used moon water on my wrists to still involve elemental presence.

Today I:

- used moon water

- did my daily tarot reading, which has really become a source of using intuition to get advice from her!

- cared for my flowers from my girlfriend mindfully

My offering was quite large so I'm going to let it keep evaporating before washing it and redoing it. Maybe Fridays I can get into the habit of leaving a weekly offering.

As I reflect more I think I find ways in which I'd like to reincorporate Diana into my practice. I feel especially drawn to her lunar aspects currently, which as someone who works heavily with Venus' marine component I found the two goddesses always find their way together in my practice. I will definitely keep exploring this!
