This was going to be a reply to this post about princess + dfs, but apparently tumblr doesn't allow videos in reblogs.

So periodically on weibo, fans would try to lure Xiao Shunyao to come and say hi in his fan chat with images of their cute pets etc. I think it was some time early this year during filming of Shui Long Yin that a fan posted this video of this glorious horse with the caption that was something like "This reminds me of you."

This time it worked: Xiao Shunyao popped in and replied "I wish I was that handsome."

Anyway, if DFS was a horse, he'd be that one and horse girls falling over themselves over his leggy and tempermental ways = valid.

I probably wouldn't work too hard to specify, unless I had a good idea or my imaginary actors/designers did -- I think I'd mostly focus on being clear with the class and temporal signifiers (and I'd keep the American aesthetic, I think, given the time period I zeroed in on). And of course the Pope is still the Pope.

Thinking about my imaginary Doctor Faustus production again (like you do) and how the unspoken premise is that it's set in a Bible college in, like, West Virginia, circa 1930. Not in a way that works too hard to localize it, just a vibes-based thing that makes the repressive elements of the play's religious landscape visible but without direct evocation of present-day evangelical culture -- like, I would want that side of the play to also have an emotional pull, that's why I'd want to use e.g. Sacred Harp for the production music, because it's beautiful and also a lot of it is really judgmental and that's a good way of underscoring Faustus' dilemma.

But the other thing that just occurred to me is that that second-quarter-twentieth-century vibe would make it really easy to signpost the passage of time in the play: after all, Faustus signs over his soul for twenty-four years of demonic service, and the play should feel like it has a ticking clock. And you can do that easily with visual cues (probably also soundtrack cues) if you have that recent-past aesthetic, even if you don't want to lean on specific historical details.

(It also occurred to me that, while I haven't actually seen many productions of the play, I definitely haven't seen or read about one that does that -- in period costume the cues would be too subtle and modern-dress productions seem to go for "eternal present day")

MLC Amnesia Fic (What's Sealed Away)

It was one thing to know what his qi felt like in his meridians–although he didn’t know what his neili was called, only that it had a name–and to know that, if he started running his sword forms, his arms and legs would guide him where his mind couldn’t. Muscle memory felt familiar. Reliable. But this? This free-floating knowledge, not connected with any event, any memory, any movement or motion? Just facts appearing in his mind? Assertions he was supposed to accept unquestioningly as truth? With no memory of how he learned them? Nothing to prove their validity? He clenched his hand around his dao’s scabbard. There had to be a better way than this.

NOTES:

I had a ton of feels about the differences between DFS and a-Fei, different types of memory and what is and isn’t lost in the sheer mindfuckery that is amnesia (very loosely inspired by my own experiences with amnesia), and a desire to explain some of the weird behaviors in the amnesia arc (why a-Fei spends so much time away from everyone else in the Mountains Red arc–-which LLH justifies with a lie about a-Fei sleeping instead, why LLH never tells FDB that it’s dangerous and painful for a-Fei to get his memories back, etc.), and thus this fic was born.

Dark Feminine Energy: Avoid This Common Trap

Dark feminine energy is a hot topic in 2024.

Since the arising popularity of the femininity wave, awareness of its shadow aspects – dark femininity – followed soon after. This is most noticeable through social media trends like TikTok blowing up with #darkfeminine content and tips, followed by even Vogue articles on this topic that holds such fascination for so many of us.

I believe all women can benefit from tapping into their dark feminine energy. However, I’ve noticed a common misconception about what the dark feminine is about, and many creators (businesses, sites, blogs) are perpetuating this misconception because the toxic angle is more profitable than the self improvement angle.

In short, they’re giving dark feminine energy a bad reputation by claiming it’s all about “using dark psychology tips and tricks to manipulate men, get into their heads and get them to treat you right”.

There are many problematic things with the above. Let’s name a few:

Why it’s problematic to associate DF to manipulation

You can’t (and shouldn’t) waste your time persuading someone of your worth. It’s not your job to prove yourself. People either appreciate you, or they don’t.

I don’t recommend playing with dark psychology the same reason I don’t recommend playing with black magic. What goes around comes around. However, I support every woman’s freedom of choice, as long as you’re taking ownership for your actions.

It’s yet again male-centered. Instead of being about self improvement or self-discovery, it revolves around… yes, male validation.

Dark femininity is an incredibly empowering tool, and this misconception is leading a lot of girls and women to play games and chase men, instead of leading them into their own power.

A more accurate term for the above trend which revolves around revenge and manipulation is simply “toxic femininity”. Yes, the female equivalent of toxic masculinity, because mistakes can be made on either side.

There is nothing feminist or empowering in chasing an ex that mistreated you, and putting on an elaborate show just to convince him you were always his dreamgirl.

Understand that through this, you are giving away your power and relying on another person to validate your sense of self-worth. Is that actually empowering? Of course not.

So then why waste your precious youth and energy to chase after people that are blind to your amazing worth and potential?

«this takes place after Shu's DF manservant end because I was craving some angst. though this part might not be that angsty»

this was like a novel idea I got in my mind a few weeks ago but as I'm already slow with declaration (sorry 🏃🏻‍♀️), I knew two novels together would have been hell so I converted this into like a summary-ish type shot. from past 10 days

even though she doesn't show it, he knows. he can see it. the pained expression every time her heart wrenched at his unfamiliarness towards her. the depression she was falling into. the timid smile she tries so hard to put on even when she is suffering from inside. everything is going the same as he remembers except her. she. she deserves better.

Reiji has been watching Yui from afar for a few days now and his throat always turns dry whenever he sees that darkened expression on her face. everytime his good-for-nothing brother gives her that cold unknown look after filling her up with so much hope previously. it's weird. why does things have to turn out like this? shouldn't Shu have remembered everything, if Yui does? then why him? why Reiji remembers everything that happened?

her gloomy expression frustrates him.

is it because of his strong fondness towards her?

days turns into weeks and there's no development between Yui and Shu. Reiji has tried to comfort her, trying his best to hide the fact that he remembers… because if he tells her, he is afraid she'll have those hopeful eyes again, just like she had when Shu promised her, only to be broken again if he is not able to successfully rejoice them.

at first that's how Reiji validated his reasoning in his mind about not telling her anything, but as he spent tea times with her to calm her down and ease her, he realized something. maybe he was being selfish? maybe he doesn't want Shu to remember that's why he is concealing everything? why is he even holding such hope for someone who is already out of his reach? who is already someone's.

and as much as he knows, someone loyal like Yui would rather die with Shu having no memories of them then to fall for someone else just because he doesn't remember her anymore.

weird. a vampire’s heart never beats then why does he feel that his heart that was beating(?) has stopped with this wrenching pain clutching him aggressively from top to bottom.

still, he suppressed himself. still he acted coldly towards her like usual but never crossing the boundaries unlike previously. it was better for both of them. after all, he has always remained in the shadows.

but one day, everything changed. the moment he saw her sobbing constantly in her room with various scars and one deep painful bite mark, he knew. he knew he had enough.

Shu. it was Shu's doing. that was the last straw for Yui. she kept hoping and believing that one day Shu will remember, one day her strong unfazed love for him will bring him back. days and days she kept spending time with him to re-create the memories but it was to no avail. he really has forgotten her from the roots. she knew he always kept himself away from everyone, especially mortals, due to his past but still… she had a hope, which shouldn't have ever existed from the beginning.

she was already having a hard time healing those internal scars that he gave her for forgetting about her, but today he didn't just extend those to paint them externally on her body, he broke her.

he crossed the line.

Reiji took a deep breath as he slowly picked her up and took her to his room to tend her. Yui, who was still in a broken state, didn't even realize when Reiji teleported them, when he patched her up, and when he gave her anesthesia to calm her down and make her fall asleep.

Having enough, Reiji casted a barrier around his room for Yui's protection, hoping she won't wake up before he returns as he quickly leaves to finish off what he is about to do. he wanted to take her with him as at no cost he is leaving her alone, especially at this state of hers, but things will get more difficult for Yui if she ends up regaining her senses in the other world.

Eden, the castle of the great king Karlheinz, the ruler of Makai, and his father.

He went in to find the answers he needed. but it wasn't easy as his father refused to converse until the right time comes.

but Reiji didn't have much time. Yui is alone. and at the same time he can't give up so easily and go back without answers, it would lead nowhere and they will just keep going around in circles. He took off to the pharmaceutical institute inside his father's castle where he kept notes of his research.

his finger brushed through various books, some old, some new, until it stopped on one specific one ‘The apple of the Adam’

he flipped through it and stopped at one page, struck melancholy. there it was, the result of his father's experiment marked with a red pen, in his beautiful clear handwriting “failed”

failed? what failed? he doesn't understand!

at this point Reiji was getting angry and having second thoughts about his father after seeing those red words.

from what he saw, Shu went through all the lengths to protect Yui, he even chopped off demon lord burai’s head to protect Yui from the founders. yet, failed!?

he doesn't understand. taking a deep breath, Reiji calmed himself down to think rationally and take in everything that is written in his father's notes about Yui to get more clues.

He squinted his eyes to check around the page for some more pointers on why Shu failed.

there he found it. “even though he went through all the extents, still their love wasn't that strong to remember each other when things went back to square one. only Eve remembers. a true Adam would have remembered his true love for his Eve no matter the circumstances, led by his strong fondness and desire for her.”

…

could it be…? no. no. maybe he is thinking too much into it. there's no way.

he definitely remembers only to help Shu, just like he has been told from his childhood and about his future as his elder brother's right hand man.

Reiji took the diary with him and again stood in front of his father's mysterious room door. he isn't budging before getting the answers, but to his surprise, the door was opened immediately.

Reiji stepped in to see his father smiling and mentioning how finally it's the right time. but he remained silent, though that didn't stop Karlheinz from continuing as he repeated what Reiji read in the notes, totally conscious of his son's awareness on the said matter.

“I'm pretty sure you already figured it out but my son, you are the true Adam. I'm proud of it.”

“no. Adam is chosen by Eve, didn't you say it yourself in your notes? so there's no way I'm Adam when Yui is obviously in love with Shu. there's more to it, isn't it, father?” even though Reiji was aware that his perseverance of memory was his father's doing, he still can't speak it out loud, after all no matter what he is their father.

Karlheinz laughed as he commented on his son's intelligence as to be expected. he agreed that it was his doing.

With the truth in his hand, Reiji was completely speechless, not sure what to say. Karlheinz's smile dropped as he realized that his son has no intention of accepting the truth of becoming Adam.

“you should return back my son, she is alone isn't she? your anxiousness is way too obvious. we'll talk another time”

and in the next snap, Reiji was back in his room with Yui still asleep peacefully in his bed but with a darkened expression. crying in her sleep calling Shu's name and muttering why here and there in mid.

that's when he swore he was going to heal her. he is going to help her. he will help her to make Shu remember, even if he has to do it indirectly to keep his remembrance secret. even if his love is unrequited until the end.

By actually realizing that there is only one, which is imagination. I completely understand where you're coming from because when I got into loa, the concept of there being 2 separate realities I was part of made me feel even more anxious and in desire. You can practice letting go of this concept by realizing there is only you as everything is just consciousness, this makes the concept of lack, time-lag, and something being separate from you, an illusion. When I feel like this, I think: well, if I'm not human but consciousness, why do i need to the senses or the outer reality as validation of something being real? That is the work of a human mind, and I am more than a human mind.

My honest thoughts & solution to this is working on seeking validation from the 4D because whatever you persist in (the 4D) has absolutely no choice but to reflect to the 3D. also no affirmations have more power than others. All affirmations work the same, it honestly depends on what you assume. Do you assume that saying ur df name is a more "powerful" than simply saying u have ur df? it depends on if the person views one affirmation as more powerful than another.

also seeing nothing in the 3D ≠ not having it. If you already have ur df in ur 4D than u already have it. The 3D is nawt a source of validation since it is simply a byproduct of your assumptions from the 4D.

Yingxing Appreciation 🎉🎉

hi, hello, it's Yingxing appreciation time and I'm dragging you into it bc he is my baby and I need more ppl to talk about him

Y'know I see a lot of people like in awe and hyping up DF and just giving him tons of appreciation while analyzing him specifically as an individual which is all so so valid, DF is amazing and very intriguing as a character and I love him sm, but I sadly don't see the same for Yingxing despite him I think also being so interesting. I also see him more so dismissed in the "literally God and some guy" kind of fashion sometimes

So I'm here to rant just a little bit about Yingxing, why I love him, why he's epic and why he ruins my day every single time I think about him! This is for any of my fellow Yingxing lovers who are also starved of any content of him

Firstly, this man is a genuine genius, like lest we forget this is from Baiheng's travelogue in which she met a young Yingxing who was still a child by this point.

He was a young boy but had already become a craftsman, a sign of his ability to learn exceedingly quick under Huaiyans tutelage. And his ability to work and progress incredible fast continues into his time as a young man on the Luofu.

We know he arrived probably somewhere around 18-21 (in my personal estimate) and by the time he saw Jingliu again (which itself was likely early into his stay on the Luofu given HCQ ages and timing), he had already impressed the Master Craftsmen of the Luofu's Artisanship Commission and earned himself a title.

There are also multiple things in game that emphasize his achievements and creations he crafted, some offhandedly mentioned in a readable or item while others are emphasized with importance.

Casually mentioned in the Discarded Ingenium Parts is his feat in the Great Trial of the Furnace (perhaps that trial is for gaining the furnace master title? Once again signifying an earlier achievement in his legacy) where it took him only a day and night to create a whole mechanical lion that moved and looked just like a real live lion from a bunch of defective parts and waste.

More recently in 1.5, they released a readable, the Ten-Lords Criminal Directory, which mentions an imprisonment method designed by Yingxing that keeps “Mirage” in a perpetual state trapped within a hallucination of their own making. Utilizing it’s own powers in order to keep it imprisoned. Something that with proper maintenance seems to have lasted for around 700 years so far.

And of course, how can we forget his most famous creations

The beautifully crafted weapons of the High Cloud Quintet, from Jingliu’s incredibly heavy sword remarked as being as heavy as three thousand catties, to Dan Feng’s Cloud Piercer with the ability to even cut through dragon scales, and the Devastator Glaive as well as Baiheng’s recurve bow. Each impressive in their own ways and seemingly crafted pretty early as well into his time on the Luofu with the HCQ given the distinction of Jing Yuan who (even if he likely was more a teen than a boy) still wasn’t an exact adult yet. So once again, let me emphasize this man’s skill here. With how many things he managed to do so so early into his time on the Luofu. A genius craftsman who deserved all of the praise he had garnered with his works.

Additionally, I know they keep harping about “ugh arrogant craftsman, ugh he’s so full of himself” but every single time we’ve seen his personality, he just seems like a genuine joy to be around. Bright, charismatic, sure he’s cocky but he also gives the impression of being incredibly fun and a bit silly if you ask me.

His behavior as mirrored by the mirage echo in Scalegorge Waterscape is distinctly playful even in what might be a more tense situation, lightly bantering with Dan Feng and even chuckling in certain languages.

In Jingliu’s character stories, it even furthers this bright, playful attitude he gives off with his distinct cheekiness shining through especially with that “toothy grin” of his. And if you listen to Jingliu’s (at least her English) voice lines during Clouds Leave No Trace when she speaks about Yingxing before getting into his transformation, there is a distinct fondness or amusement in her voice as she speaks of him especially that cocky nature of his despite her distaste for it at first.

While Baiheng is hailed as this kind figure in the High Cloud Quintet, perhaps their sun even casting light upon them, it doesn’t seem too far off to say Yingxing was a shining star among them in his own right. His easy going nature with them bringing about a bubbly playfulness similar to Baiheng given their closeness from when he was young. I could go into way more especially in regards to the casualness at which Yingxing seems to speak and treat others allowing for a more equal formation of relationships especially with Dan Feng but I’m saving that for another rant.

And all of this about him especially how expressive he seems at certain points he’s been mentioned, really just makes me so incredibly sad when thinking about Blade now. How severely separated he is from this identity. A division that exists from not only his death but from the way his mental state has been severely warped from his time with Jingliu and being affected afterwards by the mara.

The sheer dehumanization and lack of a personal identity in place of seeing himself as a solely a weapon when put next to Yingxing, with such a clear bold individual identity, really makes the transformation of one into the other all the more jarring and tragic. Especially with the emphasis on how Yingxing hated the abominations of Abundance only to become one himself, something that is still implied to have not been by his own hand. Blade is an immensely tragic character, but that tragedy only holds weight because of the life and identity Yingxing had. It is only with Yingxing’s light which shined despite the circumstances of his life that his descent into darkness hits harder, and it makes me so sad that I haven’t found many others talking or expanding upon this despite my searches because he really is such a well written character with so many details in his story that are both interesting and utterly heartbreaking.

And additionally, I want to say that I think there is a lost potential in examining the Xianzhou through Yingxing. Specifically in the way he is treated as a short life species. We know how the relationship between the Vidyadhara and the Natives, especially as it’s changed after Dan Feng, but there is a very interesting relationship to be explored between the Xianzhou and the Short Life Species the end up there, especially through Yingxing’s relationship to the different Artisans guilds whether on the Luofu or the Zhuming.

In the end, it becomes another sad element to Yingxing’s story. Yingxing managed to change his attitude regarding how the Zhuming masters treated him and even grew more of a confidence, but even in the Luofu's Artisanship Commission, he can never truly get as far as he deserves. Just as Jingliu says

Even with his work impressing the master craftsmen of the Luofu, even after more than showing his skill and earning the title of Furnace Master for that skill, he still would be denied higher positions and could only prove his true worth by the High Cloud Quintet.

And just let me say it again, him being a short life species allows for such an interesting examination of the world and people around him based upon that. While we don't know exactly how they met, we do know that Yingxing was Huaiyan's personal disciple and the only one he mentions of the celestial masters to treat him with respect and believe in his capabilities despite knowing he's a short life species. Through his treatment of Yingxing, we learn quite a bit about him. Through Baiheng's treatment of him as well, we learn a lot about her, more than anywhere else.

He's just UGH I need more exploration from Yingxing's perspective, the lack of it feels as if I'm being starved. He's so interesting, he's so fun, he's incredibly tragic, and he makes me cry every single time he crosses my mind. Please do yourselves a favor and think more about his character so you'll end up as sad about him as me. Or don't maybe. I dunno. All I know for sure is that you absolutely need to read Views of the Universe From a Starskiff: The Zhuming if you haven't. Anyways bye, thanks for listening to this rant, I gotta go cry over him.

Putting in my own two cents on modern au dfs and lxy/llh eating habits. I know some people headcanon Di Feisheng as the type to just regularly skip meals, and I'm not saying they're not valid, but I have different headcanons. Di Feisheng is the type of person to eat 3 meals religiously every day, no snacks. He allocates 20 minutes 3 times a day at fixed times to eat, and eats the same few bland things all the time. In canon he's said to only ever eat white rice, and I feel like one thing people neglect is that rice is both cheap, bland, and most importantly, a major source of energy. Di Feisheng would religiously have 3 meals a day because he doesn't want to be like his childhood self fighting for food, doesn't want to go hungry, but he also doesn't want to think about what he eats too much. To him food would be fuel and that's all it is. He recognizer that it's immensely important to fuel your body as a kid with former food insecurity, but also doesn't want to think about it otherwise.

Li Xiangyi would be the one who has immensely irregular eating habits. Like it's Canon that he never slows down, basically never sleeps, and is always running around doing stuff. Maybe it's just how he is as a person, maybe it's because he's scared of slowing down and stopping and being idle, because he needs to feel useful. Maybe it's because he always needs to be doing something so he doesn't have to face the fact that he can't be perfect as much as he wants to be. The thing is it's Canon that he's always running around doing stuff instead of doing self care, and it's also semi canon that he has screwed up hunger cues and notions of what most people think is good tasting food because of his childhood on the streets before he was adopted. In a modern au he'd be using meal times to get more stuff done.

(and maybe when they're teenagers, in a modern au, Di Feisheng would drag Li Xiangyi away from his work because "it's not fair competition when your blood sugar is low enough that it's probably impairing half your thought processes", and Li Xiangyi would take him to restaurants to try weird food combinations because "A'Fei live a little you can't just eat the same few things all the time")

ONE PIECE 1072 SLAPS👏 HARD👏

This is the best chapter I’ve read in a while ! And that’s a feat because Egghead has been fantastic ! 

Spoilers under the cut. I might or might not have commented every panel.

Oh the pack dynamic is real alright. Been so pretty much since the four of them and Akari was born. Let me tell. If these four had been with their sister when that kaiju attacked, it would be dead faster than it would think "Oh Shit".

While none of them are strong, much like their sister its their abilities and skills that makes them more dangerous than anything else. That and solid team work.

Only the strongest of officers of the DF would be able to go toe to toe with the four as the boys has long since mastered working as a team and it shows.

Which of course leads us to their bios.

The first son is the firecracker and knocklehead of the family. He's a bit likel Casey Jones from tmnt 2003, but a little less hotheaded and bit smarter too. No offence meant to any tmnt fan here, but that guy is not know for his brains.

He has a heart of gold and is generally the one that caused the most trouble for Hina and Proto when going to school. He's protective of all his younger siblings, and have more than once beaten up any one who'd dare to bully them in their younger years.

As for abilities and skills? He has the ability to wield water just like No 11, though lack the raw power that No 11 display. He makes up for it in skills though, as the man can make water like blades or darts that can cut through steel like butter thanks to the fact the water is actually moving at insane speed. No 10 would swear he can hear those blades or darts sing thanks to that.

He can also wield ice to a lesser degree too. Often making an ice staff that deal a quite the damage along with a small change of freezing whatever body part he hits. He is pretty much the close quarter fighter of the four. And is slight bigger than Akari in kaiju form.

The second son is quite similare to Proto in temperment. Calm, collected and someone you don't want to be on the wrong side of when mad. He's the more reasonable of the four and a bit shy around people he dosen't know well. Has great humor though and with an even better timing that would make anyone laugh.

He is also the one who always had the best grades, even helping his older brother with homework as well. Especially with math. But he was always behind in PE thanks to being born physical weaker than any of his siblings.

For abilites and skills? Well he is the only one in the family who can literally make and grow weapons out of his own body. Swords, staffs, bows, guns and more can be made in a matter of second to a few minutes depending on what is needed. Sometimes he even makes some for his brothers or sister should they need it.

Most of the time though he plays the sniper role of the four thanks to his physcial weakness and being the smallest too. Only 7 meters tall at the most. Though that those not stop him from dealing some pretty hefty blows should he ever have to fight up close. And while not at the same level as the fourth brother, he is pretty quick on his feet, making him a hard target to track down.

The Science Department would go buckwild upon learning that the second sibling can make weapons from his body. Also your valid about 2003 Casey not being so smart. He has the street variety, not the book kind.

The eldest definitely spits the most fire and no doubt insults Isao first.
