CRUEL OR MISUNDERSTOOD?(spoiler alert: its BOTH???)

carla: the embodiment of machiavellianism

carla as a character isn't misunderstood, but his reasons behind being “cruel” are misinterpreted. (note: there's a difference trust me)

carla wasn’t raised to be a man, he was “raised” to be a ruler. within carla's first few scenes we see he gets DOWN TO BUSINESS.

hes a founder, so he doesn't have the same exact craving that the vampires do BUT. while yui's blood is "special" it doesn't change the fact that a lot of the times in which carla sucked her blood it was for shits and giggles (to instill fear). his goal was to continue the founder bloodline, and yui was an important tool in the plan.

endzeit (aka the disease that only affects founders and killed off his entire bloodline aside from him and his brother haha..) creates a desperation within him, but one he refuses to acknowledge outwardly. while he does say he doesn’t care how yui sees/perceives him, that obviously changes later on since he distances himself and refuses help. it was his curiosity regarding humans which led him to warm up to yui. he didn’t have much outside interaction at all, so reading gave him a lot of insight. all in all, he doesn’t want to be perceived as anything but the image he set for himself.

i dont think hes the type to be ashamed at all, though. he already accepted his fate, so like i said, he just wants to keep the image he set for himself.

(note: unfortunately it’s hard to make a solid point about endzeit bc rejet switched up sooo hard after DF and endzeit continued to affect carla even in lost eden…)

the validation he sought from his father when he was younger led him to be faced with an eventual "betrayal". he showed his father the magic he’d started developing (something which he believed would help him earn his father’s approval), but his father didn't praise him, though. he actually feared carla's strength.

(what does a machiavellian do when faced with a perceived threat? eliminate it.)

carla’s cruelty is not born from just sadistic pleasure but rather from an ideology rooted in survival and supremacy of the first bloods.

each of carla’s endings is a different answer to the question of what matters more: power or “humanity”.

(note: i especially love yui in this route because she indirectly challenges carla’s belief that vulnerability equals weakness.)

in his brute ending, he fully embraces ruthless ideals, giving in to the idea that emotions are weaknesses.

in his manservant ending, his downfall was set by his inability to act on his emotions until it was too late.

in his vampire ending, he finally acknowledges his feelings and allows himself to change.

I probably wouldn't work too hard to specify, unless I had a good idea or my imaginary actors/designers did -- I think I'd mostly focus on being clear with the class and temporal signifiers (and I'd keep the American aesthetic, I think, given the time period I zeroed in on). And of course the Pope is still the Pope.

Thinking about my imaginary Doctor Faustus production again (like you do) and how the unspoken premise is that it's set in a Bible college in, like, West Virginia, circa 1930. Not in a way that works too hard to localize it, just a vibes-based thing that makes the repressive elements of the play's religious landscape visible but without direct evocation of present-day evangelical culture -- like, I would want that side of the play to also have an emotional pull, that's why I'd want to use e.g. Sacred Harp for the production music, because it's beautiful and also a lot of it is really judgmental and that's a good way of underscoring Faustus' dilemma.

But the other thing that just occurred to me is that that second-quarter-twentieth-century vibe would make it really easy to signpost the passage of time in the play: after all, Faustus signs over his soul for twenty-four years of demonic service, and the play should feel like it has a ticking clock. And you can do that easily with visual cues (probably also soundtrack cues) if you have that recent-past aesthetic, even if you don't want to lean on specific historical details.

(It also occurred to me that, while I haven't actually seen many productions of the play, I definitely haven't seen or read about one that does that -- in period costume the cues would be too subtle and modern-dress productions seem to go for "eternal present day")

If you really wanna piss off Reddit, tell them that every iteration of Henry we’ve seen since the finale was a ghost and he made up the force field as a coping mechanism and Dystopia is symbolic of Heaven (weird right).

Ray, riddled with guilt over the way it ended, spoke to his spirit at the funeral to try and give them both some closure. Which he can obviously do because he talked to the vacuum ghost that one time. Obviously.

The first episode of DF Henry was in was a whole delusion. He kept sending the kids away so he could sit trapped in his own head for a while and the kids interacting with Henry was a series of maladaptive daydreaming. Then he got in trouble and called them for help, he had to pretend it was Henry because he doesn’t like to ask for help. The end of that episode was the end of Ray’s episode.

When Ray tried calling Henry for help when Twitler and Drex were working together, he chose to believe his calls were being ignored and when Henry picked up Bose’s phone call, it wasn’t Henry, it was someone else who was reassigned his number when his phone shut off. Miles teleported away and spent some time twiddling his thumbs while he “went to get Henry” and when he returned the kids played right into his delusion because it was the only way they could get him to Nakatomi tower to help the girls.

While they were setting up Twitler’s plot, Drex (unlicensed therapist ass Drex) gave Twitler insight on these hallucinations and used it to manipulate Ray into thinking Henry was in danger and luring the rest of danger force to him so they’d be powerless to stop his internet takeover once he got them all under his control. Ray, who was falling for most of the fight, failed to witness the kids take down the villains and told himself it was Henry.

Henry sticking around to go after Drex made him a conveniently available hallucination to cling on to for a while.

Henry babysitting in the Supies was Ray realizing that Henry had never been nominated for one of those awards and feeling bad about it, seeking out punishment and validation when he wasn’t nominated for any category himself, and getting in trouble. Schwoz calls to tell them he lost Ray, they save his ass, and then Ray realizes he can’t nominate Henry on his own for the award because he’s dead and also shows his gratitude for danger force in the same breath. Having Henry in his sight to crack a joke was his way of properly letting go.

Then we see Henry in Guardians of the Ponytail because Ray was commissioned for a job and he was like “mmm, sure wish I had my partner in crime who literally robbed a bank with me and framed a high schooler here right now.” While taking a drive on his own. And I’m pretty sure that’s what they resolved to do at the end anyway so it tracks.

The movie was Ray’s mind filling in the blanks some years later of what Henry has been doing this whole time.

Ray showing up at the end of the movie all disheveled and grimy (🤤) was Ray dying, probably got blasted in the face with jolly beetle tears and shot down by a drone or smth idk.

Dark feminine energy is a hot topic in 2024.

Since the arising popularity of the femininity wave, awareness of its shadow aspects – dark femininity – followed soon after. This is most noticeable through social media trends like TikTok blowing up with #darkfeminine content and tips, followed by even Vogue articles on this topic that holds such fascination for so many of us.

I believe all women can benefit from tapping into their dark feminine energy. However, I’ve noticed a common misconception about what the dark feminine is about, and many creators (businesses, sites, blogs) are perpetuating this misconception because the toxic angle is more profitable than the self improvement angle.

In short, they’re giving dark feminine energy a bad reputation by claiming it’s all about “using dark psychology tips and tricks to manipulate men, get into their heads and get them to treat you right”.

There are many problematic things with the above. Let’s name a few:

Why it’s problematic to associate DF to manipulation

You can’t (and shouldn’t) waste your time persuading someone of your worth. It’s not your job to prove yourself. People either appreciate you, or they don’t.

I don’t recommend playing with dark psychology the same reason I don’t recommend playing with black magic. What goes around comes around. However, I support every woman’s freedom of choice, as long as you’re taking ownership for your actions.

It’s yet again male-centered. Instead of being about self improvement or self-discovery, it revolves around… yes, male validation.

Dark femininity is an incredibly empowering tool, and this misconception is leading a lot of girls and women to play games and chase men, instead of leading them into their own power.

A more accurate term for the above trend which revolves around revenge and manipulation is simply “toxic femininity”. Yes, the female equivalent of toxic masculinity, because mistakes can be made on either side.

There is nothing feminist or empowering in chasing an ex that mistreated you, and putting on an elaborate show just to convince him you were always his dreamgirl.

Understand that through this, you are giving away your power and relying on another person to validate your sense of self-worth. Is that actually empowering? Of course not.

So then why waste your precious youth and energy to chase after people that are blind to your amazing worth and potential?

MLC Amnesia Fic (What's Sealed Away)

It was one thing to know what his qi felt like in his meridians–although he didn’t know what his neili was called, only that it had a name–and to know that, if he started running his sword forms, his arms and legs would guide him where his mind couldn’t. Muscle memory felt familiar. Reliable. But this? This free-floating knowledge, not connected with any event, any memory, any movement or motion? Just facts appearing in his mind? Assertions he was supposed to accept unquestioningly as truth? With no memory of how he learned them? Nothing to prove their validity? He clenched his hand around his dao’s scabbard. There had to be a better way than this.

NOTES:

I had a ton of feels about the differences between DFS and a-Fei, different types of memory and what is and isn’t lost in the sheer mindfuckery that is amnesia (very loosely inspired by my own experiences with amnesia), and a desire to explain some of the weird behaviors in the amnesia arc (why a-Fei spends so much time away from everyone else in the Mountains Red arc–-which LLH justifies with a lie about a-Fei sleeping instead, why LLH never tells FDB that it’s dangerous and painful for a-Fei to get his memories back, etc.), and thus this fic was born.

this was like a novel idea I got in my mind a few weeks ago but as I'm already slow with declaration (sorry 🏃🏻‍♀️), I knew two novels together would have been hell so I converted this into like a summary-ish type shot. from past 10 days

even though she doesn't show it, he knows. he can see it. the pained expression every time her heart wrenched at his unfamiliarness towards her. the depression she was falling into. the timid smile she tries so hard to put on even when she is suffering from inside. everything is going the same as he remembers except her. she. she deserves better.

Reiji has been watching Yui from afar for a few days now and his throat always turns dry whenever he sees that darkened expression on her face. everytime his good-for-nothing brother gives her that cold unknown look after filling her up with so much hope previously. it's weird. why does things have to turn out like this? shouldn't Shu have remembered everything, if Yui does? then why him? why Reiji remembers everything that happened?

her gloomy expression frustrates him.

is it because of his strong fondness towards her?

days turns into weeks and there's no development between Yui and Shu. Reiji has tried to comfort her, trying his best to hide the fact that he remembers… because if he tells her, he is afraid she'll have those hopeful eyes again, just like she had when Shu promised her, only to be broken again if he is not able to successfully rejoice them.

at first that's how Reiji validated his reasoning in his mind about not telling her anything, but as he spent tea times with her to calm her down and ease her, he realized something. maybe he was being selfish? maybe he doesn't want Shu to remember that's why he is concealing everything? why is he even holding such hope for someone who is already out of his reach? who is already someone's.

and as much as he knows, someone loyal like Yui would rather die with Shu having no memories of them then to fall for someone else just because he doesn't remember her anymore.

weird. a vampire’s heart never beats then why does he feel that his heart that was beating(?) has stopped with this wrenching pain clutching him aggressively from top to bottom.

still, he suppressed himself. still he acted coldly towards her like usual but never crossing the boundaries unlike previously. it was better for both of them. after all, he has always remained in the shadows.

but one day, everything changed. the moment he saw her sobbing constantly in her room with various scars and one deep painful bite mark, he knew. he knew he had enough.

Shu. it was Shu's doing. that was the last straw for Yui. she kept hoping and believing that one day Shu will remember, one day her strong unfazed love for him will bring him back. days and days she kept spending time with him to re-create the memories but it was to no avail. he really has forgotten her from the roots. she knew he always kept himself away from everyone, especially mortals, due to his past but still… she had a hope, which shouldn't have ever existed from the beginning.

she was already having a hard time healing those internal scars that he gave her for forgetting about her, but today he didn't just extend those to paint them externally on her body, he broke her.

he crossed the line.

Reiji took a deep breath as he slowly picked her up and took her to his room to tend her. Yui, who was still in a broken state, didn't even realize when Reiji teleported them, when he patched her up, and when he gave her anesthesia to calm her down and make her fall asleep.

Having enough, Reiji casted a barrier around his room for Yui's protection, hoping she won't wake up before he returns as he quickly leaves to finish off what he is about to do. he wanted to take her with him as at no cost he is leaving her alone, especially at this state of hers, but things will get more difficult for Yui if she ends up regaining her senses in the other world.

Eden, the castle of the great king Karlheinz, the ruler of Makai, and his father.

He went in to find the answers he needed. but it wasn't easy as his father refused to converse until the right time comes.

but Reiji didn't have much time. Yui is alone. and at the same time he can't give up so easily and go back without answers, it would lead nowhere and they will just keep going around in circles. He took off to the pharmaceutical institute inside his father's castle where he kept notes of his research.

his finger brushed through various books, some old, some new, until it stopped on one specific one ‘The apple of the Adam’

he flipped through it and stopped at one page, struck melancholy. there it was, the result of his father's experiment marked with a red pen, in his beautiful clear handwriting “failed”

failed? what failed? he doesn't understand!

at this point Reiji was getting angry and having second thoughts about his father after seeing those red words.

from what he saw, Shu went through all the lengths to protect Yui, he even chopped off demon lord burai’s head to protect Yui from the founders. yet, failed!?

he doesn't understand. taking a deep breath, Reiji calmed himself down to think rationally and take in everything that is written in his father's notes about Yui to get more clues.

He squinted his eyes to check around the page for some more pointers on why Shu failed.

there he found it. “even though he went through all the extents, still their love wasn't that strong to remember each other when things went back to square one. only Eve remembers. a true Adam would have remembered his true love for his Eve no matter the circumstances, led by his strong fondness and desire for her.”

…

could it be…? no. no. maybe he is thinking too much into it. there's no way.

he definitely remembers only to help Shu, just like he has been told from his childhood and about his future as his elder brother's right hand man.

Reiji took the diary with him and again stood in front of his father's mysterious room door. he isn't budging before getting the answers, but to his surprise, the door was opened immediately.

Reiji stepped in to see his father smiling and mentioning how finally it's the right time. but he remained silent, though that didn't stop Karlheinz from continuing as he repeated what Reiji read in the notes, totally conscious of his son's awareness on the said matter.

“I'm pretty sure you already figured it out but my son, you are the true Adam. I'm proud of it.”

“no. Adam is chosen by Eve, didn't you say it yourself in your notes? so there's no way I'm Adam when Yui is obviously in love with Shu. there's more to it, isn't it, father?” even though Reiji was aware that his perseverance of memory was his father's doing, he still can't speak it out loud, after all no matter what he is their father.

Karlheinz laughed as he commented on his son's intelligence as to be expected. he agreed that it was his doing.

With the truth in his hand, Reiji was completely speechless, not sure what to say. Karlheinz's smile dropped as he realized that his son has no intention of accepting the truth of becoming Adam.

“you should return back my son, she is alone isn't she? your anxiousness is way too obvious. we'll talk another time”

and in the next snap, Reiji was back in his room with Yui still asleep peacefully in his bed but with a darkened expression. crying in her sleep calling Shu's name and muttering why here and there in mid.

that's when he swore he was going to heal her. he is going to help her. he will help her to make Shu remember, even if he has to do it indirectly to keep his remembrance secret. even if his love is unrequited until the end.

By actually realizing that there is only one, which is imagination. I completely understand where you're coming from because when I got into loa, the concept of there being 2 separate realities I was part of made me feel even more anxious and in desire. You can practice letting go of this concept by realizing there is only you as everything is just consciousness, this makes the concept of lack, time-lag, and something being separate from you, an illusion. When I feel like this, I think: well, if I'm not human but consciousness, why do i need to the senses or the outer reality as validation of something being real? That is the work of a human mind, and I am more than a human mind.

you do nawt need to be specific when describing your df. Your subconscious, a.k.a you, already knows exactly what u want so no matter how specific or vague you are with ur affirmation, you will still manifest ur df, regardless!

My honest thoughts & solution to this is working on seeking validation from the 4D because whatever you persist in (the 4D) has absolutely no choice but to reflect to the 3D. also no affirmations have more power than others. All affirmations work the same, it honestly depends on what you assume. Do you assume that saying ur df name is a more "powerful" than simply saying u have ur df? it depends on if the person views one affirmation as more powerful than another.

also seeing nothing in the 3D ≠ not having it. If you already have ur df in ur 4D than u already have it. The 3D is nawt a source of validation since it is simply a byproduct of your assumptions from the 4D.
