SO. Let's go.

I'm starting this blog with a little overview of the OCs who are most present in my head these days. I (more or less) recently drew a shiny line up that I still like, after all, so why not use it?

I tried to get their heights somewhat right, give or take a few inches... I'll put their heights into the descriptions, too, though, for anyone (like me) who cares about these details. :)

Avery Constance St. James (*April 1st 1995 in New York City, USA; 5'2 ft / 1,57 m): a small but fierce pharmacist who lost her heart to an irresistably lively Irishman in 2022 (who refused to give it back), and who now juggles being a loving mama and thriving in her usual chaos.

Daryl Louis McKenna (*February 6th 1993 in Galway, Ireland; 5'9 ft / 1,75 m): rockstar scientist (biochemistry) and former drug abusing idiot who recently got engaged to Avery - a special lady he just happened to find when he wasn't looking, and who unexpectedly found his greatest joy in fatherhood.

Dexter Linus St. James (*August 11th 2023, in New York City, USA): a tiny Irish-American hybrid - the son of Daryl and Avery. Named after Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory and Linus Pauling.

Orla Deirdre O'Connell (*October 28th 1992 in Galway, Ireland; 5'9 ft / 1,75 m): an eccentric tattoo artist who appreciates the most beautiful things in life and who believes in love and classic romance like no other. Grew up with three brothers - Malachy (*1980-2006), Kieran (*1985) and her twin Declan, and thus handles life like a lady, but never without the appropriate dash of assertiveness.

Michael Theodore "Mick" O'Loughlin (*December 22nd 1992 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 6'5 ft / 1,96 m): a tall and elvenlike fella who stems from an ancient bloodline of highly fascinating individuals and who may have a supernatural streak to him. Motor mechanic in everyday life and a curious and whimsical guy overall, with soulful green eyes that effortlessly see behind the things others would not even dare to question.

Alistair Lachlan "Ali/Al" Abbott (*May 28th 1993 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 6'4 ft / 1,93 m): an eccentric weirdo, very charming and always a little clueless, with a heart of gold. A former rising football star who had to give up that particular dream to an unfortunate injury, and a surprise teenage dad who loves his friends and longs to meet the love of his life; who waits tables in a restaurant by day and woos ladies - who are willing to pay for his services - by night.

Lancelot Malcolm "Lance" Abbott (*July 27th 1988 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 5'4 ft / 1,63 m): a true force of nature, a capable internist, strong-willed and assertive (some would say stubborn) confident and outspoken, sometimes on the brink of being plain rude. An intelligent and complex person who may be a pain in the arse at times, but who knows what is right and important in life... such as suppressing some long lasting issues, ah, haha, oh well.

Maisie Rose Boyd (*June 11th 2011 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 5'0 ft / 1,52 m): the surprise love child of teenage parents Ali Abbott and Nessa Boyd, who is growing into a sweet and caring young lady these days.

Vanessa Christine "Nessa/Ness" Boyd (*January 14th 1993 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 5'2 ft / 1,57 m): a young and smart psychology graduate who is eager to finally start her career that she had to postpone due to becoming a mother at only eighteen. Gentle and kind, but also very straightforward, never taking crap from anyone and showing bluntness in just the right moments.

Caroline Miriam "Carrie" Anderson (*August 2nd 1987 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 5'4 ft / 1,63 m): a somewhat restless soul, always looking for something while never quite knowing what that something is. One hell of a doctor. Caring, not making any differences between people,and eager to look behind a facade... and entertaining the thought of running her own practice soon!

Dallas Ariston Gray (*October 22nd 1987 in Glasgow, Scotland; 6'4 ft / 1,93 m): a half-Greek, hunkalicious metal lord with a voice from both heaven and hell, a primary school teacher, musician and not quite your average nice guy from next door - the unhingedness may be subtle, but it's so, so there.

Fiona Annabel "Fi" Christie (*March 4th 1994 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 6'0 ft / 1,82 m): a truly delightful creature with many talents, drawing people in with her... everything. A hairdresser and make up artist, a dancer (classic ballet, jazz, as well as adult entertainment) and a gentle soul. Her optimism may make her look naive at times, but

Jean Melissa "Melissa" Carter (*June 1st 1985 in Calgary, Canada; 6'3 ft / 1,90 m): a creative director at a local ad agency... who clicks on suspicious links in spam mails and who forgets to check whether she has enough gas before she drives distances… and strands in the middle of nowhere. May seem scatterbrained but is incredibly loveable and the apple of the eye of her wife, Donna.

Donna Yvaine Christie (*January 3rd 1985 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 5'9 ft / 1,74 m): older and slightly (read as: not so slightly) overbearing sister of Fiona. Has her heart at the right spot but is also used to success and getting what she wants, which makes her a little insensitive and even tactless at times; still often fails to understand that "not doing things her way" isn’t necessarily the same as "doing things the wrong way".

Graeme "Sully" Sullivan (*September 7th 1986 in Perth, Scotland; 5'11 ft /1,80 m): an incredibly creative person all around who has known his goal pretty early in life - making the world a brighter, more colourful place! Owner of a tattoo studio in town - "The Den Of Tallulah Banks" - which isn’t just a tattoo studio, but also a place where creatives can get together and local artists from town can exhibit their works without paying annoying fees.

Hallie Henderson (*April 2nd 1988 in Aberdeen, Scotland; 5'7 ft / 1,70 m): a music journalist, writing for the popular UK/Ireland based magazine "Grot Spot". Interested in pretty much anything, believes in people. Very gentle and caring... and just a little bit weird. Loves life but doesn't close her eyes to the crappy aspects of it. A realistic optimist who is far from naive but maybe a bit too forgiving sometimes.

Jett Jones (*January 15th 1984, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England; 6'2 ft / 1,87 m): Hallie's friend and fellow Grot Spot writer. A Geordie beauty who never met her real parents but couldn't care less, as the lovely Joneses raised her well. Outspoken and blunt, appears to be afraid of nothing. Never refills the office coffee pot and would most likely survive a zombie apocalypse. Treasures her heart and shares her real name with hardly anybody.

Introducing Earendel, my latest attempt to play an arcane archer in this game. Yes, I named him after Tolkien's Eärendil (using the original Anglo-Saxon spelling from his source) because I suck at coming up with original names, and even gave him the surname "Mariner" as a nod to the character. But that's not his profession, he just inherited the name from his mother Elwith, a human bard. His father was an elf who died in battle when he was an infant, but even though he never knew him he was brought up on stories about his adventures by his mother. Hence he is obsessed with his elven roots.

As part of this backstory I cheated a little by starting him off in the Prelude with a Cloak of Elvenkind (Hide +10). Another fun little thing I'm doing is giving him progressively better magic lutes from the Shadows of Undrentide campaign module as he progresses as a bard (which he will be doing very slowly). At the moment he possesses the Fochluchan Bandore which he can use to cast Light once per day. His voiceset is the Archer which is one of the funnier ones and a joy to hear.

I made a rookie mistake with this character because I don't often play rangers. No biggie, just been having him fight with both a longsword and the Dagger +1 because I didn't realise Dual Wield is disabled by medium armour. From now on I'll be having him use a longsword single-handedly, but eventually I'll give him Weapon FInesse because I want his main weapon to be the Feyduster short sword. He's primarily an archer anyway.

He'll also eventually obtain Linu's Pendant of the Elf and Tomi's Ring of the Rogue, giving him a much-needed boost to dexterity, and of course, Sharwynn's Belt of the Performer to enhance his bard song. I'm really looking forward to him obtaining the Elven Court Bow at the end of this chapter because it's the perfect reward for him RP-wise. Also with the Mighty +3 property he'll be able to add his paltry +1 Strength modifier to the damage roll (and the full amount under the effect of something like Bull's Strength).

Anyway, I'm enjoying playing this character so much that I might even finish the game with him. But then, I say that about almost every new player character I create and I still haven't gotten past Chapter Two. ;)

As puffed up and ready to write a strongly-worded letter as this guy seemed, it wasn't as hard to pull him away as Linus would have thought. Probably helped that the main source of his argumentative state had flitted away somewhere else. Linus sure wasn't about to complain about the convenience!

"Only the best of the best!" Linus replies cheerfully, not really answering the question with any sort of surety. It was a party, what did it matter if he didn't remember what was in the drinks he was sharing? "C'mon, we'll share a drink -- or more -- have a good time, and you can relax! Everyone -- well, most everyone, can't please the whole crowd, ya know? -- is havin' a great time!"

It's the most bare bones reasoning, but waving the flask within Forsyth's reach seems to break him down just enough to be curious. Or daring. Either way, Linus runs with it.

Grinning, he hands the flask over and pats the other man encouragingly on the shoulder as he takes a careful sip, and then a larger drink after the initial burn. "There ya go! Get that in ya and see how ya feel!" It shouldn't make him sick right off the rip; Linus had been drinking it in between other things the whole time, and he was doing just fine. Although, he was used to putting some truly awful things into his system, so he probably wasn't the best to judge it by.

There's a glittering sort of pop and snap when their hands meet in exchange of the flask, Lightning and Water mingling for that brief moment.

"Oh, I'll take full responsibility, cross my heart!" Linus smirks, taking a swig from the flask before using it to make a crossing motion over his chest, his other hand behind his back with crossed fingers.

Take responsibility, sure.

"Hmmm, well, if you're feelin' real adventurous...," he mused, thinking for a moment before spotting a couple of the mice waiters swapping out empty glasses for filled ones.

Ooh, that was a plan....

"Hey, whiskers, help a fella out? My friend here could use a li'l...freeing experience," he called out to them, waving them over and then whispering into one's oversized ear about his plan. The rodents seemed exasperated, but with lightning streaking playfully across the sky, they figured it wasn't worth the fuss.

The mice chittered to themselves, whiskers twitching as they quickly cleared off one of the longer tables, positioned on either side down the length of it. Trays with freshly poured drinks in their paws, tails poised quite gracefully and ears pulled forward at the ready.

"So, ya gotta trust me on this--" Absolutely a mistake, who in their right mind would? "Don't shout or struggle, that'd be awful rude to our mice friends, ya know?" Linus is jovially manhandling the poor knight over to the edge of the table, spinning him around so that his back is facing it and pressing in real close to make sure he can't squirm away. "Plus, you're gonna wanna save your breath for between drinks. Have a fun ride!"

And with that, Linus shoved Forsyth back onto the table, where the mice carried out their part in this utter disaster waiting to happen. Dexterous little mouse fingers find purchase in the knight's rather lovely outfit, pulling him down along the length of the table -- quickly pouring drinks in the general vicinity of Forsyth's mouth as he's moved along the table.

To their credit, they look incredibly apologetic. But Linus is far from it. He's howling with laughter at the sight, posted up at the end of the table to give Forsyth his last drink -- planting his hand on the other man's chest as he tries to rise up, pouring a long stream of booze from their shared flask more or less into the knight's protesting mouth.

"Woo! Feelin' alive now?!"

Champagne: Something strong and cleverly(?) hidden in one of many flasks: This isn’t a church-run event anymore, so the bar is open and flows freely. The waiter-mice might give you judging looks if you make a fool of yourself, and really, how low do you have to go to be judged by a mouse?

While most people seemed like they were trying to adapt to the weird situation, there were some that were attempting to rally against the Elementals and fight back in some manner or another. Honestly, it all sounded like a good time to Linus -- a party, or a fight -- so he was ready for whatever ended up coming.

But, really, the guy shouting up at the sky looked like he needed a little...break.

"Looks like water doesn't know how to treat their critters! Maybe we should help!" The voice is an electric hum in his ear, and even if he had been thinking of going over on his own, now it felt like he was being pushed over there by an overeager hand.

So, with static jumping between his fingers as he wanders on over to the poor sap, slinging an arm around Forsyth's shoulders mid-argument. "Heeey there, champ. Ya look a bit...wound up. Maybe ya should come hang out with me for a while, get your knots all...un-knotted, ya know what I mean?" he laughed, pulling Forsyth away from the spot he'd chosen as his verbal jousting match with Water, reaching into his jacket with his free hand to dig out a clearly well-used flask of...something.

Damned if he could remember what it was now, but Linus knew it packed a hell of a punch!

"I'm telling you, if you would just--" Forsyth's fruitless plea is cut off physically, not in an attack but he's sure getting jostled. It's friendly and aggressive at once, and the odor of alcohol on the man's mouth solves that mystery quickly.

"While I appreciate the offer, my tension is entirely reasonable for a situation like this!" Forsyth gets a look at his assailant-companion, and things make even more sense. It's Linus Reed, Python's unbearably rowdy coworker. Rumor is he's a feared former mercenary, and it shows in the strength of his grip and his preference in liquor. "...what is in there, anyway?"

As irresponsible as it feels to turn away from a conversation, Water seems to have moved on to other things, and Linus is correct in the sense that Forsyth has himself coiled so tightly he feels he could snap at any moment. He's good at managing this, generally, but he does need to balance himself and allow himself some recovery from intense engagements.

And if he were to start teaching some classes for the Golden Deer house like he had been considering recently, it would be a good idea to start getting to know his fellow instructors better. Even if they're as...unruly as Linus.

"If I fall ill from this, you will be held responsible." Forsyth takes a sip of the stuff, shuddering. It packs a punch, but it isn't entirely unpleasant. He takes another quaff, letting the liquid burn his throat and send shivers of warmth through his body. He hands the flask back to him, their hands meeting for a second. A flower of lightning blooms on Forsyth's vine collar, the jolts of energy coursing through his body like a second aftershock. "What is it you suggest we do?"

Asleep as he was, it wasn't a natural sleep. It was brought on by a poison of some kind, and though Linus had been through the truly lovely process of conditioning his body to most poisons and their effects, this was something he wasn't used to. So, while it did take him out of the fight for now, he was still probably a bit better off than some other people might be.

Little flashes of awareness, though it was trippy as hell and he still couldn't bring his body to move like he was trying.

Voices swimming in and out of his ears. The distorted sound of combat. The only sure, clear thing Linus could make any heads or tails of was the sensation of cozy warmth suddenly enveloping him; the stinging pain in his wounded arm faded away, and for even just a brief moment, the toxic air of the bog didn't burn so harshly in his lungs.

Linus 11.5/12HP is Asleep! They cannot attack! Linus 11.5/12HP is inflicted with Poison Bog (second stack)! [ 0.5 + 0.5 = -1HP, 10.5/12HP ] Poison Bog inflicts Linus 10.5/12HP with -1 speed, -1 avoid, -1 dexterity!

"Ugh, what the fuck...," he groaned, eventually shaking to, albeit groggily. Things were looking a little worse for wear, injuries that hadn't been there before he lost time making him frown a little in confusion and a bit of worry.

Well, okay, mostly for the kid, not so much the ghoul over there breathing the foul air in fine and dandy. Figures.

While he can see how everyone is doing, it feels like they're...weirdly far away. Which can't be true, but things in this bog were definitely not exactly what they seemed.

Hello! My jellycat collection has been steadily growing over the last few months! I keep finding them in very random places - TK Maxx has started stocking them again! and i got an amusable farfalle and a marcus mussle :) I also now have a dexter dragon and a little linus leopard seal !!! 5. Who is your favourite male television character of all time?

5 years ago I’d say Dexter but.. well.. Dexter ended so badly and also kinda ruined my love for his character. I’ll say.. Ben Linus from LOST. God I loved him endlessly and I still do after all these years. 

13. Saddest death scene? 

If we’re talking about the impact.. I’d say on the TV - Glenn and Carl’s deaths and if we’re talking movies.. Ben Solo.

Nine (2009) dir. Rob Marshall. A true masterpiece almost no one acknowledges.
