Mom found this while she was cleaning up some papers from who-knows-where; I told her it was the kind of thing that would do numbers on the internet, and she told me to go ahead and post it. Transcript follows:
Two Kittens If you were a kitten, how would you play? Sneak up, pounce! Then run away! If I was another, what would I do? Roll over, jump up! Then, chase after you! If we were two kittens, how would it end? I got you, I caught you! Now, please be my friend. by Beth Bylander

Just in general I think trying to look to pre-late modern period history for validation of LGBT+ identities is an absolutely useless venture. Every single underlying human experience defined through the lens and framework of LGBT identity has always existed, but it's impossible to pin down Exactly who and what a figure might have been if they existed in this contemporary context and decided to self identify via these labels.
It's also a wildly reductive lens that flattens the complexity and variety of how sex and gender has been constructed across time in different cultures, how sexual norms have varied, etc. This is not a constructive approach to learn about history and you're never going to be able to fit historical figures neatly into little identity categories.
#I think people really really really need to get it through their heads that LGBT+ identities exist largely as an interaction with#mostly western gender norms and VERY specifically in our contemporary context and these labels do not objectively describe#innate underlying qualities neatly applicable to and distinctly separated in all contexts#Like there have always been men attracted to/who have sex with the people defined as men in their culture but that description#is not Always going to neatly match up to how you conceptualize 'being gay'#Or like. WRT the 'I will sodomize and facefuck you' poem. I saw people just absolutely WILDLY missing the point of it#at its face value of a man describing engaging in sex acts with other men and it's like. the message here is 'you are accusing me#of effeminacy and I am rhetorically threatening to exert my masculine dominance over you via penetrative rape to show you#who the real effeminate man is'. Like most people clearly at least got the message that it's intended to be insulting but like#it's not just that. It is straight up Normative Roman Masculinity (albeit notably aggro) and is not implying actual interest in sex#with men in a recognizably 'gay' sense#See also most arguments over 'was this '''woman who disguised herself as a man''' a trans man/lesbian/cishet woman escaping misogyny'#like YOU WILL NEVER FUCKING KNOW. JUST REFER TO THIS PERSON HOW THEY WANTED TO BE REFERRED TO AND STOP ARGUING#I think there's a very understandable drive to look to history to say 'see? we've always been here' but the mistake is trying to do that#for SPECIFIC identities defined in HIGHLY SPECIFIC AND CLEARLY SEPARATED ways.#Rather than as proof that yeah the western cis/heteronormative conceptualization of what sexuality/gender is and should be has#never been right and people who diverge from this (and from other cultural gender/sexual norms) have always existed

once again not really back for real, trying to avoid posting about how angry i am (which is difficult bc im hypomanic rn) but lemme talk about some good stuff! i officially got a new job! i wont say where bc some of yall are praying for my downfall i fear, but im leaving the wedding industrial complex finally....i am almost free....and tonight i went to an open mic/poetry book signing by poet and professor brynn saito. i have to admit i was a little bit of a hater when i started reading her work lmao i was like "ugh this is trying too hard with imagery and blah blah" but the moment she started reading her poems i was like woah....this woman is so sincere and incredibly talented and i fell in love with her work in the span of 30 seconds. i got to have a convo with her and she liked the poem i read (my qabil and habil one) and she has inspired me to engage with more openness and sincerity when writing. anyways, you should look her up or take a class by her at fresno state or read her book "under a future sky" or any of her other books. thats all for now...

Achilles is not blonde
Tumblr media
And she grabbed the son of Peleus from the back of his blonde hair
(Translation by me)
Homer Iliad rhapsody 1
The word ξανθός (xanthos) is used even nowadays in modern Greek to determine someone who is blonde (it literally means "blonde" in modern greek). It is one of the earliest if not the earliest description of Achilles's hair.
In antiquity the meaning of the word was a bit more complicated. It meant oftentimes a variety of colors starting from pale blonde till auburn till red till reddish brown. It could also mean "shiny" at some contexts. It could also have connection as such with the word ξαίνω (xeno-> verb) which means "to comb" or "to groom" when it comes to horses for example (still used to this day)
If you want to interpret the word "xanthos" as "shiny" or "auburn" or "red" is up to you. You can also call it "fair haired" and leave it vague like many translators did. I also often make that distinction in my translations since I prefer to use the term as "shiny of hair" or "brown of hair" for Odysseus because his beard is described as black (κυανή -> cyan=substitute for black or very dark) so for me makes more sense to imagine him with black or brown hair that shine auburn or gain auburn sheen by the sun. For Menelaus for example the term has kinda remained as "fair haired" or "auburn of hair" or "red of hair" because of his description in other sources.
But calling Achilles "blonde" is perfectly valid since this is literally what the word means nowadays. And blonde Greeks might not be as common as brown or black haired but there are plenty around with extremely pale brown to blonde hair till people with actually very blonde hair and pale features especially up in the north.

"If I am killed for simply living, let death be kinder than man."

Poem → Kinder Than Man by Althea Davis
Comic panels → Robin(2021) #7 by Writer- Joshua Williamson, Artist- Gleb Melnikov
.
(Just thinking that Damian stays by Nika's side, holding onto her wrist waiting for her pulse to come back… and she doesn't know how much he cares for her at this very moment…)
Tumblr media
(But Nika still recognizes that Damian is kind to her, and it's all that matters to her.)
"Then I found a guy who truly had my back. He's complicated and came preloaded with family baggage, but we laugh a lot and he treats me nice."
Tumblr media
"And I really was happy you agreed to help me… and you did help me."
Tumblr media
Comic panels → Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution by Writer- Brandon T. Snider, Artist- Laura Braga/ Batman and Robin(2023) #8 by Writer- Joshua Williamson, Artist- Nikola Čižmešij
.
(I need Damian and Nika to be cosmically intertwined in every lifetime/possible universe through their connections and experiences with death, and be buried together side by side at the end of time with this poem engraved onto their graves.)

southeastern gothic.
the humidity swallows you hole. that eerie feeling of being watched. tornado and amber alerts jerk you out of your zoned-out state. mindlessly staring at a pair of vultures devouring roadkill on the blood-stained, broken concrete. worn down, steel toed boots scrap against the sidewalk near a pentecostal church as a rackety, mufflerless pick-up truck shambles past you. it leaves a foul, smokey cloud of oil and gasoline in its wake and you hack out a fit of coughs as it forces its way down your lungs. you wipe the swelling tears from your eyes as you catch your breath, your ears ring from the roaring engine. the familiar dreadful uncertainty of ever getting out of this town crosses your mind again
