That was amazing. You practice on cadavers, you observe and you think you know what you're gonna feel standing over that table, but...

"You must know... surely, you must know it was all for you. You are too generous to trifle with me. I believe you spoke with my aunt last night, and it has taught me to hope as I'd scarcely allowed myself before. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love--I love--I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on."

If y’all would’ve told me in season 1 that Derek Shepherd’s entire problem was that he was just a girl-dad in waiting, I’d have said you were nuts.
But LOOK at this man 😂

LOOK how unremittingly JOYOUS 😂

That’s his precious ANGEL 😂

And witness his reduction to utter, non-verbal DEJECTION at even the PROSPECT she might be taken away

Patrick Dempsey might be a mess of a man (and Derek along with him). But you cannot say he didn’t commit to the BIT. He decided what Derek had been missing was his daughter, and then put his heart and SOUL into that choice

So I go upstairs. As I'm walking down the hall, I'm trying to prepare myself for what I'm going to see when I go into my bedroom. I step on a man's jacket that doesn't belong to me. And everything I think I know… just shifts. Because the jacket that doesn’t belong to me is a jacket that I recognize. And what I know now is that when I go into my bedroom, I'm not gonna just see that my wife is cheating on me. I'm gonna see that my wife is cheating on me with Mark, who happened to be my best friend. It's just so pedestrian, and common and dirty and cruel. Mostly just cruel. I left. I came out here.

Gift not mine!!
REQUESTS OPEN!!
Not so secret secret

You tried to ignore it. You really did. But you couldn't do that when you woke up in the morning to find Mark already gone. Not when you were making dinner and waiting for him, only to be told that he had already eaten at the hospital.
Not when you were pregnant for months and he hadn't noticed.
You worked hand in hand with him in the hospital, at the neurosurgery area alongside Derek, you knew it was an exhausting job, that took up a lot of time, but lately you felt like Mark was never really there. You'd see him in the mornings at the hospital, as he'd leave home early without even letting you know, and then at night in bed when he'd come back late from the bar.
You tried not to think about it like that, you tried to convince yourself that it was just your ideas, but you felt like nothing was the same anymore. That maybe, after three years, Mark had already gotten bored and now he was looking for a new, younger adventure.
And the moment you found out you were pregnant, you knew it was all over.
You had never talked to Mark about having kids, but he always took care of buying the condoms and the morning-after pills. An indirect way of saying "I don't want children."
And that was the last straw.
You decided to get up early, almost midnight, to prepare breakfast and waited for Mark to wake up so you could talk.
So you could end it all, before he found out, before he was the one to end it all and hurt you even more.
So when Mark woke up and found you sitting in the kitchen, breakfast ready and a backpack too big for work, he knew something wasn't right.
"You woke up early..." Mark said as he approached you, placing a hand on your back as he kissed your temple.
"I wanted to talk..." You said as you poured coffee into his cup.
He simply nodded, a slight smile on his face. You wanted to believe that it was just a smile of gratitude and not a "finally" one.
"I think it's better if we stop all of his..." You said without looking at him, trying not to cry. It was for the best. The best for you, so you wouldn't have to suffer when you found out that all of this was because he was seeing one of the new interns.
"What?" Mark said seriously, leaving the cup on the table. "What are you talking about?."
"We had some wonderful years...I had some wonderful years with you, but it's over. It's the best for both of us..." You said as you stood up and grabbed your backpack with your stuff. "I love you Mark, but it's not the same anymore and that's okay. I understand. And I hope you understand me, I'd rather do this than get hurt..." You slowly approached him and gave him one last kiss on his cheek.
"No, of course not, I can't understand you...what's all this about? Is that your excuse? Why would you get hurt? What the hell do you mean?!" He said as he stood up and stood in front of the door, not letting you out.
You knew this would happen, but you really prayed that he would just accept it and confess that he wanted this to end too.
"Mark, I don't need to explain. You don't need to pretend, okay? I need to go to work, and so do you." You said, trying to get him to move.
"Pretend?! Pretend what?! What are you talking about woman?! Did I miss something? Did I do something that upset you? You can't just walk away and leave me with that cheap excuse." He started yelling and you could only look at him seriously. Did he intend to continue pretending when you had realized?
You just looked at him and Mark, enraged, moved away from the door, letting you out.
The moment you got into your car you felt like everything was falling apart. You had never imagined this, much less with a baby on the way. You had never imagined a life that wasn't with Mark.
___________________________________________
That day at work was one of the worst. Everyone instantly noticed that something was not right between the two of you, because you two always ate together, how you walked hand in hand through the hallways.
"Tell me what he did so I know how hard to hit him." Derek had told you while both of you were studying a case together.
"What?"
"Mark. I know he did something. You're sad, you weren't together at lunch, he's been coming to work early for weeks, and he hasn't been spreading the word around the hospital about the fact that he's going to be a father." Derek had told you and that was what made the tears and sadness come out completely.
Derek had noticed and Mark hadn't. The person you loved, who had sworn to love you, the father of your child hadn't noticed.
Since that day you had been taking refuge in their house.
And now it was a month since you two stopped talking.
You tried to pretend that everything was okay, but it wasn't. Not when the next day, you had your first doctor's appointment.
That day you had arrived early at the hospital with the idea of going between two operations that you had with Derek.
And Mark had arrived early too. Not by coincidence. Oh, of course not.
Mark had been after you all this time, trying to find the reason for the sudden separation.
Mark had been watching you work through all the surgeries, following you around the hospital like an abandoned puppy...or a stalker. But he didn't care.
He missed you too much. He couldn't go on without you, he couldn't understand why you had decided to end it all, not when everything was going so well.
What mattered to him now was knowing what you were doing entering the ultrasound office.
So when you walked out of there, you collided with Mark who was standing in front of the door like your bodyguard.
"We need to talk. I want to talk." He said as he took you by the arm and led you to one of the break rooms.
"Mark, no. I have to work and so do you. There's nothing to talk about, everything is very clear to me." You said, trying to leave again. You didn't want to do this, you didn't want to tell him what was going on, what you really felt. You didn't want to hear confirmation that he didn't love you anymore.
"Well, but for me it's not. It's not clear at all. I don't understand what's happening to you, I don't understand why Derek looks at me as if he's going to kill me at any minute. "I don't understand why you suddenly decide to end all this when everything was going so fucking well." Mark said while looking you straight in the eyes.
"No... I'm not going to let you act like a victim. There's nothing to explain and you know that perfectly well. I got your message okay? You don't have to pity me."You were trying not to scream but his "confused" attitude only made you angrier. "You can't blame me for not wanting to get hurt by all this."
"I remind you that *you* left me! You're the one who says everything is clear but all I see is a glass full of shit!" Mark said angrily.
"I left you because I won't run after anyone asking for affection and love like an abandoned dog!" You told him as you got closer to him.
At your words Mark froze.
"Is it clearer now? I'd rather we finish now than turn into the poor doctor who was cheated on by her partner with the young, cute and tender intern." Mark just stared at you, no longer angry, only confusion and regret on his face.
"Is that what you think? That I'm sleeping with an intern? Is that what you think of me?"
"Yes. That's what I feel, what I've been feeling for weeks. I feel like our relationship is over, but maybe you feel sorry for me and don't dare leave me, so I decided to take the step myself." You said and at this point you couldn't hold back your tears.
Mark ran a hand over his face and slowly lowered himself until he was kneeling in front of you, his hands on your hips, waiting for you to look at him.
"Honey I...fuck...I'm sorry, I don't-" he tried to say, but when he heard you start crying even harder he knew he needed to calm you down, and the best way to do that was to explain everything to you.
"Why don't you love me anymore?..." You said between tears.
"My beauty...I never stopped loving you...I never slept with an intern while I was with you and I never will because I love you and you are the best thing that happened to me in this life... I-...I know I've been a little absent and distant..."
"A little? Mark, we didn't even have breakfast together anymore, we wouldn't see each other at lunch, you didn't call me to come to the hospital together..." You said taking his wrists trying to make him let go of you, but he took your hands and started kissing them.
"I know...I know, fuck, I'm so sorry my love...I really know I didn't act right, and I have no valid excuse for my behavior...It's just that everything feels too unreal. You feel unreal. I'd never been in a serious relationship and I just needed some time to prepare myself. I needed time to think that the Mark of before had come to an end, that now everything would change because I want to change for you. Because you're not like the others...and I'm not trying to justify myself, I know I've been an idiot and I'm so sorry...please darling...don't leave me...don't take him away from me." Mark said as he rested his head on your stomach.
"I'm pregnant..." You said quickly.
"I know. I've been trying to come to terms with it for weeks, thinking about the idea of having someone calling me dad." Mark said as he caressed your belly.
"So do you still love me? Or do you just want me to forgive you because you want to have a baby?" You said, trying to hold back your tears, scared of his answer.
"I never stopped loving you my sweet girl, I will never stop loving you. I will love you until the day I take my last breath. I will take care of you and our baby as if that were my only purpose in life.
And it is.

a/n: I'm taking requests, so feel free to send me some :) summary: Y/N is a new attending at Grey Sloan Memorial. Carina has her eyes on Y/N since the moment she met her. pairing: Carina DeLuca x female reader warnings: none word count: 1.4K
masterlist

Elevator Effect - Carina DeLuca
Y/N adjusted her jacket as the elevator doors slid open, revealing a nearly empty car save for one person leaning casually against the railing. The woman was stunning. Her dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, her almond-shaped eyes sparkling with curiosity as they landed on Y/N. She looked up from her phone and smiled, an expression that seemed almost too charming for its own good.
Y/N stepped into the elevator, pressing the button for her floor. Her first day at Grey Sloan Memorial had officially begun, and she decided to ease into it in her usual style: arriving in regular clothes before changing into her scrubs. She figured it would give her a chance to observe the environment without immediately standing out.
The silence in the elevator was brief.
"Buongiorno," the woman greeted, her voice as smooth as silk, laced with an Italian accent that could make anyone weak in the knees.
Y/N turned to her, quirking an eyebrow. "Good morning."
The woman tilted her head, her smile widening. "Not a doctor, I take it?" she asked, her gaze sweeping over Y/N’s outfit, a casual shirt, jeans, and sneakers. "Or are we experimenting with a new dress code?"
Y/N fought the urge to smirk. "Not a doctor," she said, technically not lying. Not yet, anyway.
The woman leaned in slightly, her curiosity evidently piqued. "Well, let me guess. A visitor? No, no, you seem too comfortable for that. Here for a meeting with the Chief?"
Y/N shrugged, letting her enjoy the guessing game. "Something like that."
Her companion chuckled, a sound that was somehow both mischievous and endearing. "I’m Carina, by the way. Carina DeLuca. And you are?"
"Y/N," she replied simply, keeping her tone neutral.
"Y/N…" Carina repeated, savoring the name. She studied Y/N with a smoldering gaze that could rival a summer heatwave. "Let me give you a warning, Y/N. If you wander into Grey Sloan looking like that, some people might forget how to do their jobs."
Y/N raised her eyebrows, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes. "Oh, really?"
"Oh, sì," Carina said, taking a step closer. Her voice dropped lower, more intimate. "You’re… bellissima. Stunning. I’m already distracted, and I’ve only known you for two minutes."
Y/N’s lips twitched. "Is this how you greet everyone in the elevator?"
"Only the ones who make me want to press the emergency stop button," Carina teased, her eyes sparkling.
Y/N decided to play along. "That bold, huh?"
Carina smiled, her voice dripping with charm. "Life is too short for hesitation. Don’t you agree?"
The elevator dinged, signaling their arrival at the appropriate floor. Carina looked as though she had more to say, but Y/N stepped out first, giving her a knowing glance over her shoulder. "See you around, Carina."
Later that morning, Y/N stood beside Dr. Bailey in the conference room as a group of doctors filtered in. She had already changed into her scrubs, the name embroidered on her coat marking her position as the new attending in OB/GYN.
Carina walked in last, her gaze scanning the room before landing on Y/N. For a moment, her expression faltered, a flash of recognition lighting her face. Y/N offered her a subtle, knowing smile.
"Everyone, this is Dr. Y/N Y/L/N," Bailey announced. "She’s our new OB/GYN attending, joining us from Chicago. I expect you all to make her feel welcome."
Carina’s jaw dropped slightly, and her cheeks flushed. "You're… a doctor?" she asked Y/N after her short introduction was over, disbelief clear in her voice.
Y/N turned to her, feigning innocence. "Oh, I did forget to mention that earlier."
Carina blinked, clearly scrambling to recover. "You are very sneaky, Dr. Y/L/N."
Y/N leaned in just slightly, her voice quiet enough that only Carina could hear. "Life is too short for hesitation, right?"
Carina exhaled a laugh, shaking her head in disbelief. "Touché."
Throughout the rest of the meeting, Carina found herself stealing glances at Y/N, clearly intrigued. Afterward, she caught up to her in the hallway.
"Non posso credere che non me l'hai detto."
Y/N tilted her head, pretending to be clueless. "I don’t speak Italian."
Carina smirked, leaning closer. "Then I guess I’ll have to teach you. Maybe over dinner?"
Y/N smirked. "I will think about your offer."
And with that, she left the Italian alone in her own disbelief.
The day was only halfway through, and Carina was already proving to be delightfully persistent. After their hallway banter, Y/N had managed to slip away to her office, but it wasn’t long before she encountered Carina again during a consult.
The patient had been referred to Y/N for a prenatal concern, and Carina, as the head of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine department, had been called in as well. Y/N was standing at the patient’s bedside when Carina walked in, clipboard in hand and a sly smile already forming on her lips.
“Dr. Y/L/N,” Carina greeted, her tone professional but her eyes sparkling with mischief. “How lovely to see you again. Twice in one day. I must be lucky.”
Y/N didn’t miss a beat. “You could say the same about me. I get to work with Seattle’s finest.”
Carina tilted her head, a mock expression of thoughtfulness crossing her face. “Seattle’s finest? Are you referring to me, or have you been meeting other doctors behind my back already?”
Y/N smirked, not giving Carina the satisfaction of an answer. She turned her attention to the patient instead, maintaining her composure while Carina lingered just a little closer than necessary.
Later, during lunch in the hospital cafeteria, Y/N found herself seated alone, flipping through a stack of files. She was mid-bite when Carina appeared out of nowhere, sliding into the seat across from her with a tray of her own.
“Working through lunch?” Carina asked, her voice warm as she unwrapped a sandwich. “I hope that doesn’t mean you’re too busy for me.”
Y/N set her file down, arching an eyebrow. “Depends. What’s the occasion?”
Carina grinned, leaning forward. “I figured I’d take the opportunity to learn more about the mysterious new attending. It’s only fair, considering how much you’ve kept me in the dark today.”
“Oh?” Y/N replied, feigning nonchalance. “What do you want to know?”
“Everything,” Carina said, her voice dropping into a flirtatious purr. “What brought you to Grey Sloan? How do you like your coffee? What’s your favorite color? And most importantly, how do you feel about Italian food?”
Y/N couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s quite the list.”
“Start with the last one,” Carina said, her eyes narrowing playfully. “Because if you don’t like Italian food, I may have to rethink my strategy.”
“Your strategy?” Y/N echoed, clearly amused.
Carina gestured between them. “This. Us. Getting to know each other. Winning you over.”
Y/N leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms as she studied Carina. “You’re pretty confident, aren’t you?”
“Sì,” Carina admitted shamelessly. “But only because I know when something is worth the effort.”
Y/N’s cheeks warmed slightly at the intensity of Carina’s gaze. “For the record, I love Italian food,” she said. “But if you want to win me over, you’ll have to try harder than a lunch table interrogation and mentioning pasta and pizza.”
Carina rolled her eyes but she was most definitely up for the challenge. “Oh, don’t worry, cara mia. I plan to.”
By mid-afternoon, Carina was proving to be as good as her word. Y/N found herself in the supply closet, searching for a specific set of surgical tools, when Carina appeared in the doorway.
“Are you following me?” Y/N asked, glancing over her shoulder.
“Not intentionally,” Carina replied, stepping inside as though she owned the place. “But I’m starting to think fate might be pushing us together.”
Y/N shook her head, biting back a smile. “This is the supply closet, Carina. Hardly romantic.”
Carina stepped closer, her voice dropping to a low murmur. “You’d be surprised how creative I can be.”
Y/N turned to face her, holding a tray of instruments as a makeshift barrier. “Is this how you woo all the doctors?”
“Not doctors. Not plural. Only you. You wear scrubs better than I do, I have to try my luck.” Carina said, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Y/N chuckled, brushing past her to exit the closet. As she walked away, she glanced back over her shoulder. “You’ll have to try harder than that, Dr. DeLuca.”
Carina called after her. “La prossima volta ti sorprenderò.”
Y/N didn’t understand the words, but she understood the promise in Carina’s tone and she couldn’t wait to see how far the Italian doctor would take this game.

Healing Hearts

includes: alex karev in the beginning of his peds residency, a seattle grace mercy west merger which involves a new mercy west transfer....
black fem surgical resident! reader x alex karev
song inspiration: ivy- taylor swift
---------------------
Y/N walked into Seattle Grace, the bustling environment a sharp contrast to her previous residency. As a new resident transfer, she knew she had to prove herself. Her heart pounded with a mix of excitement and nervousness as she reported for her first day on Arizona Robbins' pediatric service.
"You're the new resident, Y/N?" Arizona greeted her with a warm smile. "Welcome to Peds. You'll be working closely with Dr. Karev today. He knows my service and he'll help you if you have any questions."
Y/N had heard of Alex Karev's reputation. He was known for his exceptional skills with children but also for his abrasive personality. She was determined not to let his reputed arrogance faze her.
When she met Alex in the pediatric ward, she was struck by his intense eyes and the air of confidence he exuded. "You're the new transfer?" he asked, not looking up from the chart he was reviewing.
"Yes, I'm Y/N," she replied, trying to keep her tone professional.
"Okay, let's get one thing straight. I don't have time to babysit," Alex said, finally looking at her. "Just stay out of my way, and we'll be fine."
Y/N bit back a retort. "I'm here to learn and help. Let's just focus on the patients."
Their first case together was a young boy named Liam, suffering from cardiomyopathy. The child's condition was delicate, and his treatment required careful coordination. Despite their initial friction, both Y/N and Alex were deeply invested in Liam's well-being.
"His latest tests show worsening heart function," Y/N said, frowning at the results. "We need to act fast."
Alex nodded. "We need to discuss his case with Dr. Robbins. If we don't come up with a new plan, he won't make it."
They presented their findings to Arizona, who decided on a risky but potentially life-saving surgery. Throughout the procedure, Y/N and Alex worked in perfect sync, their combined skills bringing the best possible care to Liam. In the days following the surgery, Y/N and Alex found themselves spending more time together. They worked late into the night, monitoring Liam's progress and making sure he was stable.
----------------------
One evening, after a particularly exhausting shift, they found themselves alone in the residents' lounge. Alex, surprisingly, broke the silence.
"So, you're a Mercy West transfer?" he asked, his tone less harsh than usual.
"Yeah," Y/N replied, sipping her coffee. "Since the merger. What about you? You've been here a while, right?"
"Yeah, since my intern year." Alex said. "It's a great program. "
Y/N nodded. "I can see that. But I like it so far. The team is great, and the cases are challenging."
Alex looked at her, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "You handled Liam's case well. Most new residents would have freaked out."
Y/N felt a warm flush of pride. "Thanks. You weren't so bad yourself."
--------------------
As the weeks passed, they continued to work together, their initial animosity giving way to mutual respect. They shared stories about their backgrounds, their dreams, and their fears. Y/N found herself looking forward to their shifts together, her heart skipping a beat whenever Alex smiled at her. One day, as they were preparing for another surgery, Y/N noticed Alex seemed distracted. "Everything okay?" she asked gently.
Alex hesitated before answering. "Just...family stuff. My brother's in town, and it's complicated."
Y/N placed a reassuring hand on his arm. "If you need to talk, I'm here."
Alex looked at her, surprise and gratitude in his eyes. "Thanks, Y/N. I might take you up on that."
Their bond continued to grow, each moment together strengthening their connection. They laughed more, confided in each other, and began to realize that the line between professional and personal was blurring.
One night, after another successful surgery, they found themselves standing on the hospital roof, the city lights sparkling below them.
"You know," Alex said, his voice soft, "I never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad you're here."
Y/N smiled, her heart swelling with emotion. "Me too, Alex. Me too."
As they stood there, side by side, they knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. In the midst of the chaos and the heartbreak of Seattle Grace Mercy West, they had found something unexpected: each other.
--------------------
During the weeks following their initial meeting, Y/N and Alex found themselves thrown together in a variety of challenging cases. Each case revealed more about their personalities and work ethics, slowly breaking down the walls they had built around themselves.
In one particularly intense case, they treated a toddler with a rare genetic disorder. The child's condition was rapidly deteriorating, and both Y/N and Alex had to rely on each other to come up with a treatment plan.
"His genetic markers indicate a possible enzyme deficiency," Y/N pointed out during one of their late-night strategy sessions. She was surrounded by stacks of medical journals and lab reports.
Alex leaned over the table, scanning the data. "Good catch. Let's run a specific panel to confirm and then we can start the enzyme replacement therapy."
Their combined efforts paid off, and the toddler began to show signs of improvement. The victory was a turning point in their relationship. They began to see each other as partners rather than competitors.
One day, after a long shift, Y/N and Alex found themselves in the on-call room, too exhausted to go home. They lay on opposite bunks, the room dimly lit by a small bedside lamp.
"Why did you choose pediatrics?" Y/N asked, breaking the comfortable silence.
Alex turned his head to look at her. "Kids are resilient. They can go through hell and still bounce back. I guess I wanted to be a part of that."
Y/N nodded, understanding. "I get that. I love their spirit, their will to fight. It’s inspiring."
As the days turned into weeks, they shared more personal stories. Y/N learned about Alex’s difficult childhood and his struggles with his family. In return, Y/N opened up about her own challenges, including the pressures she faced at her previous residency.
Their late-night conversations became a routine, each one drawing them closer. They began to anticipate each other's needs in the operating room, moving with a synchronicity that amazed their colleagues.
One evening, after successfully performing a complex surgery on a newborn, they sat in the hospital cafeteria, finally allowing themselves to relax.
"Do you remember the first time we met?" Y/N asked with a smile.
Alex chuckled. "Yeah, I wasn't exactly welcoming."
"That's an understatement," Y/N replied, laughing. "But you've grown on me, Karev."
"You too, Y/N. You too."
Their eyes locked, and for a moment, the bustling cafeteria faded away. They both knew something significant had shifted between them.
As the relationship evolved, so did their feelings. They began to steal glances at each other in the hallways, their touches lingered a little longer, and their conversations took on a deeper, more intimate tone.
One night, after another grueling shift, they found themselves alone on the hospital roof again, the cool night air providing a welcome respite.
"Sometimes, I wonder how I got so lucky to have you as a partner," Alex said, his voice sincere.
Y/N turned to him, her heart pounding. "I feel the same way, Alex."
He reached out, taking her hand in his. The touch was electrifying, sending a shiver down Y/N’s spine. They stood there, hand in hand, the city lights below them, knowing that they had found something rare and precious in each other.
He stepped closer, cupping her face in his hands. "Then let's see where this goes."
They shared their first kiss under the starlit sky. From that moment on, they faced every challenge together, their love growing stronger with each passing day. In the chaotic world of Seattle Grace Mercy West, they had found their calm, their solace, and their love.
