Demo Update 1/26/25

Hello everyone, and a very belated happy new year!

This is the year I’m finishing this game. With the news of Dashingdon shutting down (thank you to all the very helpful asks!) and the realization that it’s been seven years since I started this project, I put aside my other projects in favor of devoting my full love and attention back to this game. I love this game! I love you guys! The only hurdles in my progress have been my own insecurity (it’s very different to write a novel no one will see immediately) and my general annoyance with coding (which like… get over it, it’s for the greater good).

You all deserve closure, however, and I deserve to finish this project I have nurtured and thought about for nearly a decade now. So here we are! I’m moving to CoGDemos, like many other creators, since the code language is familiar to me and I don’t have to abandon Choicescript entirely.

The prologue and the first chapter of TLOTG have been updated there, but I am also adding another game I’ve been keeping under a different pen-name, so you can find the prologue and first chapter of Wulfebound there, too. Further game updates for that one will be on @wulfebound, though I’m posting both under this name just for transparency. Both are written solely by me, and both will be updated on a monthly basis.

As always, thank you for the continuous support! Sometimes I wonder if anyone cares to read this anymore, but then I am reminded of your kind asks checking in on progress and rooting me on, so thank you. This game is dedicated to you guys. :)

New update to patreon demo 24/01/25

This update was quite massive. It has 32 000 words, which then pushes the game over the 400 000 word line 🤯 (I can't fucking believe I wrote this much, holy shit).

Out of this 32k tho, some of them is repetition. There were A LOOOT of variations in certain scenes. Probably a lot more variations than I ever should have done lol. Still, the coding of those scenes would have been a nightmare without repeating certain paragraphs, so I would rather chose a clearer and more understandable structure instead of putting insane coding in the scenes just to avoid repetition, which, in turn, probably would have caused massive bugs.

In this update, you can:

Have some moments with friends and companions alike, depending on your character

Share some more intimate moments with your chosen RO

There will be friends-only options added later, but I didn't have time for those yet

There are also some scenes missing in the middle, which you may or may not run into

You can also fine-tune how you feel about Narmer now

Stevie McLaughlin, bassist (f) — “I suppose I was the sanest one in that bunch.”

She’s one of your oldest friends, and if you follow the clanking chain of cause and effect all the way back to the beginning, it is her you have to thank for your entire career. The band was her idea, after all. She’s level-headed, composed, and always there to talk you down when you need her. Sometimes, she acts more as your retainer than anything else…

Stevie is tall and skinny with light brown skin and extremely long, curly black hair which she always wears in a wet look. She has big, dark brown eyes and a soft face.

Paul/Paulette Zima, lead singer & saxophonist (f/m selectable, trans) — “Trying to figure out where you know me from?”

Your band’s brand-new, second lead singer. Your manager says they’re going to give your music the kick it needs, that they’re the one missing ingredient to your success. You’re not entirely sure if you agree. Worse yet, you happen to know this person, and your time together didn’t end on a favorable note. They’re part of a past you would much rather forget.

Paul is very tall, broad-backed and thickly muscled with light skin, shoulder-length slicked back brown hair and bottle green eyes.

Paulette is of average height with an hourglass/slim thick figure. She has dark brown hair with parted bangs and light blonde strands dyed into it. Her eyes are bottle green.

Angel Monsanto, guitarist (m) — “I was always going to make it big, with or without those guys. Only, I… I really wanted it to be with them.”

Your crazy but good-hearted guitarist. His passion for music borders on obsession, and he will stop at nothing to make a name for your band. Sadly, he’s very much of the conviction that all publicity is good publicity, which has encouraged him to pull some very questionable stunts in the past. 

Angel is of average height and build with a warm beige complexion and long black hair. He has a square jaw with an occasional five o’clock shadow and brown eyes. 

Lincoln Saunders, groupie?? (f/m selectable) — “What can I say, I loved them.”

Calling Lincoln a fan would be an understatement. Fanatic is more like it. You remember seeing them at your very first show, and you’ve continued to spot them at every venue you’ve played at since. You don’t know anything about them, and perhaps changing that would be a very bad idea. But maybe you still want to.

Lincoln (m) is short and lean, with an angular face and wavy blond hair. His eyes are cobalt blue. 

Lincoln (f) is petite and tan, with a youthful, round face and chin-length blond beach waves. Her eyes are cobalt blue.

Others:

Maddox Wells (m), drummer

Another one of your oldest friends. You don’t much like to talk about what happened with him.

Fatima Shah (f), drummer — “I’m pretty sure they used to try to make me disappear with their fog machine.”

After things didn’t work out with your original drummer, Fatima saved the day. She’s a sweetheart to you, but from what you’ve heard, she can be kind of a terrible person. Maybe it’s best to stay a little wary of her.

Kalena Graham (f), manager — “The first time I saw them… well, they kind of sucked. But I knew, I just knew, that they had what it takes to suck on an international level.”

Your band’s manager. You can’t believe how lucky you were to have caught her attention. She’s experienced, driven, well-regarded in the industry and… kind of mean, to be honest.

Simon Young (m), reporter — “Start at the beginning. And then, don’t stop.”

The guy conducting the interview for Groove Magazine. He’s nice enough, if a little starstruck. It seems he has been waiting a long time for this.

Demo Update (July, 10, 2024): Episode 1

EPISODE 1 UPDATE: +100,433 WORDS

Hi Hello. Yes, I know. :< I went dark again! This time it was because I ended up changing more last minute and didn't want to moan on about the excuses so I hunched away to work on it in silence. :> I think I've made it clear through my actions that I am not a social media person so I tend to neglect the 502 Tumblr when I write. Sorry :< A lot happened in my life since posting the pilot but I did say I would never abandon 502 and I meant it. I struggled with my work/life balance since starting an IF (it's a lot of work) but I'm glad I'm here to I can update the demo now!

What to expect:

⛟ Another day in apartment 502

⛟ Spend some time with one of the roommates.

⛟ Have your orientation at your job and meet a familiar face!

Some things to take note of:

The news anchor route is not available. I didn't like the direction I was taking it and haven't figured out what I want to do with it. It's not gone permanently but this update it'll be blocked off :<

Stats are still not updating. I ended up changing them multiple times and realized I wanted to wait another update to figure out what stats I want to focus on. The story gives me many directions to go on when it comes to stats and I want to make sure I hone in on the stats that will apply the most of MC's story. The stats are there so you won't get any errors but they won't move or anything and they'll most likely change.

There may be some inconsistencies, typos, errors or things that don't match. The product of writing half the chapter over nine months ago and going through many changes. :< Please let me know if you find errors. You 100% will in a 100k chapter.

Merry Crisis Chapter 5

Attend Nat's conference panel discussion, then head for lunch along the river 🍛

Watch a Malay horror movie and have dinner with Shay (and sleepover) 👻

Go for a bike ride 🚴‍♀️or hang out at the winter funfair with Nat 🎪 (then head to their hotel room for the night) 🛏

Commit to your RO of choice + some rejections (though the full suite of consequences for your actions will come over the next 2 days)

Word count: Around 50-60k with code depending on how ruthless my eventual editing is

This update will also come with some edits to the previous chapters, which may or may not improve the continuity between routes...*

P.S. with this chapter, we are now 6/8 chapters in (counting the prologue and epilogue)!

*I am still going through a herculean combing-through of stats and branching paths with the help of my wonderful beta testers. Things should be sorted out soon!!

A new investigation that leads to a place from your past that you'd hoped never to return to: ▹ An unexpected encounter with Investigator S. Goldstein at a crime scene. ▹ Personal struggles and the possibility of experiencing an initial breakdown [conditional]. ▹ Additional POV scenes with one of the CID team members [conditional].

CT:OS Halloween bonus

As promised, wrote like a fiend this month and banged out almost a full chapter's worth of content for spooky season!

The update is three-quarters of chapter 7 (about 40k words including code and variants), and picks up where Sam's visit left off.

Release dates:

It will be out to ko-fi supporters on 31 Oct, and a week after to the public :)

Features:

Deal with the aftermath of your decisions over the weekend (talk to G, Tobin or Rayyan) <True horror>

Attend a language fellow/exchange student dinner-gathering as G's plus one (and the only American in the group). <the G-only scene I promised! You don't have to be dating.>

Prep Halloween costumes with your hallmates (yes, chaotic), and go trick or treating! 🎃

Attend a party after with the team ... then stay for horror movie marathon + sleepover or head back to Haynes to end the night with G.

Yep, Halloween hookups (however ill-advised ;)) are possible.

You can end this chapter very much in a committed relationship with the RO of your choice.

Note: The rest of chapter 7 will include midterms, a time-skip (with some training/a match) and some fall festival shenanigans (because I love fall festivals). It should add up to a pretty chunky chapter that pretty much seals Act 1 of CT:OS (the 'settling into Cargill' part - establishing most of MC's friendships, routines, and possibly romances, forming a solid base for Act 2.)

I'll start writing the rest of the chapter once I'm done with Merry Crisis, and hope to get it out by end-Dec. We'll see! :)

Hey guys! The public update is now live! 🥳 The update brings 27K new words (excluding codes) into the demo, bringing the overall word count to 384K words!

Some new stuff to expect from the update (without spoilers 🤭):

A whole new section and new scenes added at the end of Ash's Hangout.

A (promised) brunch with Rin 😉

Just a word of warning, I did change one or two variables in the previous iteration of Chapter 7, so if you're using an old save file, there's a small chance it might give some error. But hopefully it doesn't. Of course, the safer way would be to play with a new, clean save (either playing from the beginning or use the quickstart to get to Chapter 6 immediately).

Anyway, I'll start answering spoiler asks regarding the update in a day or two 😉 And when I answer them, I'll make sure to tag them with the #chapter 7 spoiler tag.

You should consider restarting the game, as T's name had an error code. That's why you'll probably still see "Travis" even if you chose F!T in certain options. For those who had M!T, restarting the game isn't necessary; I didn't change or add any codes except for T.

An unexpected update: New site, new scenes! ✨

With dashingdon shutting down, you can now find The Eternal Library demo on CoGdemos!

Thanks to everyone who jumped in my asks with the news about dashingdon coming to an end. I was already on it but I appreciate your thoughtfulness! The news made quite the stir in the IF world. Shout out to DashingDon for hosting so many fabulous works over the years.

I was planning on doing a public update at the end of the month, but since I had to port the files anyway I figured I’d include the improvements I've made to the early chapters. The end point for the public demo is the same as before, a third of the way through chapter three, but I’ve added POV scenes and polished it up a bit. 💫

If you catch any errors, please let me know!

Public update includes:

A scene from Princess Angelina’s POV at the end of chapter one.

Two scenes from Prince Collin’s POV in chapter two.

Coming soon: A scene from Gemma’s POV in chapter three. (This is later in chapter three and will be released at the end of the month.)

I'm hoping to get back to writing chapter four next week. Life has required my focus elsewhere the last couple of days and this weekend is a busy one. I keep thinking about the story even when I'm not able to work on it, which counts as writing despite not adding to the wordcount.

The story is about to dive into a branching section that takes the MC to different parts of the castle for different purposes. One branch is dark and heart wrenching, one is rooted in kindness and kinship, and one is breathtaking, inviting your imagination to soar. 🔥⚔️🔥
