Evander is cis & gay (uses he/him) and Cypress is trans & bi (uses he/they) Evander’s also a 2 ft taller than Cypress, but they’re older by two years.

The two met because they both joined a fucked up lil cult thing (for different reasons) and voila!

Evander being the big gay twat he is fell hard af and Cypress kinda just went along with it at first tbh (he liked him too but they’re not as “open” about it… way more low key) they HATE pda but Evander will not let the poor man be (superrrr vocal about his love!)

Speaking of which! Personality? Evander is a BIG extrovert. Will. Never. Shut. Up. He loves to be the center of attention by any means necessary and will pester people for fun. He’s one dramatic shithead basically. He often plays coy or stupid but he really isn’t (he prefers to be silly but he does become serious sometimes… it’s definitely different and it gives folks whiplash!) Cypress is the opposite, really quiet and serious most times. If he does speak its not a lot and usually very blunt and forthright! No beating around the bush. He won’t annoy anyone, might spook them off tho. They do have a softer, less firm side but he REALLY doesn’t like acting on it unless they’re in private (almost exclusively for Evander which he RELISHES IN)

They have little quirks each other like and will do things for each other to show appreciation or love… their relationship isn’t all about being annoying one another or fulfilling cult nonsense! For example Evander really likes to bake and make little things for his bf and Cypress would rather do things for him or take him out on lil dates by surprise. The feeling are mutual and are really appreciative of it :D despite their spats or stress from everything they try their best at having a healthy relationship given their situation.

6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?

oh so so many, I'm definitely making backlist tbr reads a priority next year! The big three are the Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin (on hold on Libby to read in January, I promise!), Machineries of Empire by Yoon Ha Lee, and the White Rat/Paladin/whatever series by T Kingfisher

10. What was your favorite new release of the year?

There's a couple but the one I haven't seen anyone else talk about is The Witchstone by Henry H Neff. It's fantastic! More people need to read it!

20. What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?

tbh I'm not sure I've actually managed to read my most anticipated books yet? lol oops. Everything I was sure enough about to preorder/buy I haven't touched - Bunt!, the First Test graphic novel, Lake of Souls, Bitter Waters, The Bone Harp, Bad Houses... I was also looking forward to the NeoG and Evander Mills sequels, but I'm still waiting on my library to get the audiobooks!

Things I actually finished though- The Other Significant Others was very good, quite comforting, everyone should read it, but not as revolutionary to me personally as I'd hoped. The Village Library Demon Hunting Society unfortunately fulfilled my lowest expectations, which was that it had cozy vibes and I wouldn't love it, though it was certainly ok.

OC Kiss Week Day Three

Got this done later than I would like, but this will be the last picture with Jet and Evander as I would like to feature other characters. This has an accompanying excerpt under the cut. Word count: 523.

Unlocking the door, they had red sunflowers with a small pouch with it. They didn’t know what their partner was doing but could smell what he made. Setting the sunflowers down on the table next to the couch, they saw him cleaning the counter.

“You made all this?” They asked gently, looking at what he made.

"I wanted to surprise you with a lovely meal tonight." His smile was accompanied by their soft expression as he sat down. "Despite my efforts, I was unable to finish and clean up before you got back."

“Oh, Jet. This is a wonderful surprise. Thank you so much for doing all this.”

They went over and crouched next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder as they gave him a gentle kiss while he cupped the side of their face. After parting from the kiss, they took the towel from his hand and cleaned off the sauce from his cheek. He smiled and kissed them again that made both of them lose their balance, making both of them laugh together as they laid like that for a moment before he sat up off them.

“I love you, Evander.”

“Ich liebe dich auch, Jet.”

“I’m glad you like the surprise. But I’m guessing that means you love me too?”

“It does. Though you should check out the table next to the couch because I think you'll like it.”

He stood up and went over to the table to see the red sunflowers with the small pouch. He held the sunflowers and hugged them with the sunflowers around their neck. Smiling, they asked if he liked his gift.

He said red sunflowers were his favorite and why his laptop background was a field of red sunflowers. The beautiful red color was something he loved about this variety of sunflowers. Red sunflowers weren’t very common and made their beautiful color all the more special.

After he let them out of the hug, he saw the small pouch and opened it. Inside was a pick case with the logo of his favorite band on the flap. As he held it he loved how it looked as it was beautiful.

He asked them to wait where they were for a moment before quickly going to get something. They tilted their head for a moment until they saw him come back with a huge box of sweets they liked and handed it to them, knowing how big of a sweet tooth they had.

“Jet, I know I’ve got a massive sweet tooth but this is nearly half my height if I turn it on its side.” They smiled with a kind laugh lining their voice, holding the box.

“I know that box is scared of you, knowing its quick fate. Maybe five days at most?” He joked, smiling happily.

“You might be correct. But, not in five days. Perhaps eleven, maybe twelve, but definitely not five.”

“Okay, eight days.”

“Oh my god, Jet. You are so crazy!”

“I guess I am, Evander.”

“Hey, how about we have some of the delicious smelling dinner you so sweetly made tonight before it cools off?”

Evander will usually fall asleep reading about romance and adventure, but sometimes his final thoughts as he drifts off to sleep are prayer

Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?

it depends on the intent of the law. obviously laws that are used to hurt the people aren't ones to be kept to if it means you have to participate in harming. his oath, however, is absolute law, and it's immovable. I can't imagine what Evander would go through mentally if he broke his oath.

Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word?

he doesn't really swear or use any sort of foul language. He said arse in the temple when he was 10 and he had to write lines for a few hours after.

Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?

I would definitely like him. he's a kind and socially conscious man and he doesn't judge (a non-judgmental paladin can you believe it) I think he'd be cool with me. we might not have many shared hobbies though so we wouldn't hang out much but I don't think he minds smoking and I swear about as much as Karlach and he loves her.

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

"Oh, of course not! Besides, no matter how I behave I'm always me. Silly question."

Lol. Well, yeah. She definitely behaves differently around different people. And Evander is certainly aware of that.

Malika has lived her life making it her business to know... Is there a nice way to say this? No, I don't think there is, so-- ahem-- To know how to exploit people.

Her primary drive is to do what Malika wants to do and get what Malika wants to get. This doesn't mean she doesn't have the capacity for generosity (she does!) or that she's a mercilessly evil villain (she's not!). She just thinks that what she wants in the moment is always more important than what someone else wants. And if putting on different personas (conning people) is what will get her what she wants, she rarely hesitates.

Most people Malika meets are strangers/temporary acquaintances. She does not have a wide circle of deep friendships; she has an ever expanding warzone of strangers she has completely fucked over. The only thing that has kept them from exacting revenge on her is that she has burned every bridge leading out.

For those who become more "long-term acquaintances" (this usually entails that they are thieves/criminals like her) she is charming, sarcastic, a bit flirtatious and absolutely never ever ever around in any capacity other than the one the relationship demands ("we're co-workers, not friends.")

She dances in and out of the lives of the select few she actually does consider true friends. Playful, mischievous, generous, and actually fairly considerate, a kinder side of the typically self-interested Keeper comes out. She'll listen to concerns and even try to help solve them. Though this help is well-meaning it maybe causes more trouble for the friend rather than less in the long run... She'll invite the friend out on adventures and might even open up....some... to them here and there.

Best friends? Or long-term lovers?

Well. These are rare. But they'll ultimately see behind all her masks and see her, vulnerabilities and asshole tendencies all, for exactly who she is. That's exactly the thing she's afraid of! She has no upper hand and no control once someone sees her for who she really is. Because of that, the number of people she has wanted in this category in the past was zero.

And now it's two.

Family: Her only family is Maeryn and, like her best friends/lovers, Maeryn knows all there is to know about Malika. And sticks around anyway! Only Nymeia knows why...

My Review:

I was so impressed with Lavender House that I wasn't sure this second book could really stand up to it, especially given the way the story played out. To my surprise, it did.

Andy Mills is a compelling protagonist who has had a hard life and you just want him to succeed and have some good things and learn to enjoy himself and believe he's worth those good things. The other characters are vibrant and complicated and the way they push and pull Andy makes the overarching mystery more intriguing.

This is very much a novel about the way the past can drag at you, holding you back and trying to pull you under. And the way it would be so, so easy to let it. To let yourself be submerged into the memories and the glow of nostalgia and let your future fade away.

Andy is haunted by his memories and his past in this novel. It clouds his judgement and complicates his case, and he really struggles to break free of them.

The mystery twists and loops and as Andy investigates one suspect and then another you really wonder who could be behind it all. It's very well-crafted and satisfying.

I really love that this is very much a story about queer characters in a time where being queer is basically illegal and can easily get you beaten up or killed and no one would bat an eye. There is a danger that darkens all the shadows, but at the same time that just makes the light of their joy shine brighter in defiance.

The setting and the characters and the queerness of it all is captivating and as a queer reader is both painful and beautiful. I've never read anything quite like it before.

I was sucked in by the story as it unfolded and couldn't tear myself away. I will definitely be reading future novels about Andy and his friends.

Not only does Evander have a moral compass he is also 5 feet tall… don’t mind if I fucking DO. i love short kings, I love my dudes manhandleable, and I LOVE the idea of the other brothers having to cope with it when I go for the supposedly bland short one. Get fucked, dudes, no money or fame is as appealing to me as a five foot hotty whos a good person. (how do you think they’d react? How would EVANDER react to having someone be interested in him with no interest in his spotlighted siblings, from the start?)

None of the brothers are happy. None of them.

Bellamy seems happy; he's patting you both on the back, congratulating his baby brother for finally finding someone, asking about how you realized he was the one for you, etc. Beneath that perfect smile, however, he's pissed. Bellamy is the oldest, he's successful, he's rich! Why would you want that little brat over a mature, stable man like him!?

Romilly and Halson are both throwing tantrums. Romilly's more subtle about it, but Halson's definitely gonna be featured on some drama channels for throwing patio furniture around or some shit. Honestly, there's a good chance neither of them were even into you before, but now they're just mad that you prefer someone else over them.

Miele is somewhere in-between. He's cheering Evander on and cooing over how cute the two of you are! But he's also offering Evander shitty relationship advice and is in the process of paying someone to deepfake an affair photo.

Evander, sweet, sweet, baby boy. He has never had a partner be this into him. His previous partners were either driven off by his siblings or left him for someone taller, prettier, richer, or more successful. He feels like he's in some kind of dream, one he never wants to wake up from!

heres everyones reaction (assuming the ROs also like MC) !

Martin would initially be glad MC is shy, 'cause it'd be easier for him to pretend he isn't totally into MC. With a flirty MC he'd have no chance at hiding it, he'd be trying so hard all the time to grunt or not smile at MC's comments, that he'd start avoiding them. But with shy MC, he can't even pretend to be annoyed at them, he'd just become even shyer in return. Martin and MC would just bounce off each other's awkwardness and their conversations would be reduced to a mess of "What-" "Uh-", usually ended by Martin grunting "Uhh gotta go."

Demetra always makes fun of Evander for being oblivious in love but she's the same really, specifically only when she's involved. As in, even Evander would probably be able to tell she likes MC, but she couldn't. So, with a shy MC, she'd be very endeared and either tease them to see their reactions, or do things for them to see them smile for her or get flustered. She'd just start doing anything to get reactions out of shy MC, her favourites would be whispered thank yous, awkward attempts at making conversation and smiles. She usually automatically flirts with people she's attracted to, so with shy MC it would be that except multiplied a 1000 times 'cause, according to her,

"I just think it's funny to see their reactions."

but in reality she'd get mushy all over and couldn't help but grin when she'd set her eyes on MC, though quick at hiding it.

Evander wouldn't notice MC likes them, like at all. He'd immediately think MC hates him LMAO; and that they're different around him because of that. They'd still have a soft spot for MC, but be totally clueless that it's 'cause they like MC. Evander would still like MC but no one, and I mean no one, would know, (yes not even him). Evander and Demetra get actually very close during the story, so she'd probably notice and sit down to have a conversation with Van about his feelings.

"You do realise that's literally what liking someone is like, right?"

"Oh."

And only there and then would Evander notice. Dem would also be the one to tell him about MC's feelings, 'cause those two poor souls would never end up together otherwise.

Harley would notice MC is shyer around her and first of all be completely smitten 'cause that means maybe MC likes her back after all? Then she'd just do anything in her power to get them to feel more comfortable around her. In general she'd assume MC's shyness around hers stems from not a lot of experience or low confidence on their part, so she'd try to affirm MC often. She would also subconsciously be a little quieter around MC in fear of annoying (scaring) them by being too loud or straightforward. She'd also just blush a lot around them.

Echo would definitely be happy MC is shy, she'd be emboldened and endeared by MC's personality around her. She'd try to be a little more talkative around MC and take on the responsibility of taking the first step, trying to get MC little presents such as flowers or new pens/notebooks for the Academy. She'd also just be so happy to see MC get awkward or blush around her, 'cause it's always been the other way around for her, so she'd take it as a little win. She'd also find the courage to ask Harley for tips 'cause according to Echo, anxiety fears her and she's the queen of talking to people.

Dominic would be slightly relieved MC isn't very straightforward because of the interesting nature of their relationship. It would be a lil hard for him to improve his relationship with MC because deep down he thinks their relationship won't and can't go anywhere; so a shy MC will have a harder time with that opposed to an MC who'll just follow him everywhere and constantly flirt. At the same time he'd want to spend time with MC but he'd have a hard time trying to keep their relationship hidden and/or appropriate to their roles in the show. He'd do something he shouldn't be doing, like touch MC's hand, and then he'd berate himself for it and promise himself he won't don't it again, just to soon fall in the same trap.

also, let’s not forget when he was asked about evander kane potentially joining the oilers, and he just said "If fans don’t like it, or the media doesn’t like it, or whatever... it is what it is."

i watched the video with the random girl holding his hand. he is clearly inebriated to a point of not being able to walk in a straight line. obviously can’t say that nothing happened cause we just don’t know, but to me it seems like she’s just helping him out. i think it’s reasonable to question his intentions. definitely not great that it wasn’t his partner.

about the evander kane situation, that is really unfortunate. what i will say about it though is that these guys are heavily media trained. most players' interview answers aren't longer than two sentences because anything they say will be over-analyzed and criticized. the nhl is full of assholes. we know this. yes, i would have more respect for him if he had condemned kane's past actions, but i'm also not here to judge every word that comes out of a player's mouth.

i'm a hockey fan because i like to watch hockey. just because i like the talent of a player does not mean i condone everything they do. just wanna make that clear.

Okay, so here’s the scoop: I was supposed to drop these reviews yesterday, but Ryder’s dance class turned me into a human pretzel—the REGULAR one, at that. This is actually embarrassing. Anyway, I spent the day on my bed all day with a massive muscle pain but my boyfriend a friend of mine called a masseur and I’m now all better.

Without further ado …

1. Five Nights At Freddy’s

This was my first stop yesterday. As I stepped into Five Nights At Freddy's arcade, the nostalgia hit me like a high score from my childhood. The neon lights, the games, and the ambience in general! I used to play a lot and I feel a little bit emotional yesterday, for obvious reasons. The games were a blast, and trying to beat them felt like surviving a night at Freddy’s—just not as scary. It was a fun gaming experience that blends thrills and nostalgia, making it a night to remember.

2. RYDE Dance Studio

The devil itself, the sole reason of my constant whining yesterday, the place where all hell break lose. Took a regular dance class and I thought it would be all smile and sunshine but God damn I was wrong! Ryder himself taught me a lot of dance moves and tricks (Unique move names, by the way. I think I have the note somewhere...), That guy is on another level, so much so that I momentarily forgot I was being schooled by a dance prodigy. Me, Evander Bynes, who only did a little to no TikTok dancing when my friends asked me to.

But I had a lot of fun, Julian—the receptionist guy, even joined in to laugh at me. I think I’ll stop by to do the beginner one...

RATING: 5.5/5 I love my lil’ bro Ryder. Definitely not being held at gunpoint.

(To be fair, maybe my reluctance to stretch pre-session played a TINY role for my muscle pain... but moving on, shall we?)

3. Fontale

Took a quick stop at Fontale (like, real quick, because I can feel my muscles breaking down at that moment) after my dance class with Ryder. Bought two fiction books but I’ve not touched it since—I will start reading on the weekends!

As an avid fantasy lover, stepping into the store felt like discovering a hidden gem nestled on the outskirts of a foggy town. The ambiance was warm, akin to a comforting hug. The shelves were adorned with mystical trinkets, and every corner seemed to whisper tales of magic. (Heavily reminds me of Harry Potter with a mix of The Wizard of Oz!)

Heads Up, Seven Up Tag

These are the seven paragraphs from my WIP I'm working on. It happens after Our first meeting where Evander is about to go to work.

“Forget about that; you're not going to be a burden to me. I wanted to help and that's exactly what I'm going to do, no matter what's needed.”

“Thank you for that, Evander. You don't have to do any of this for me.”

“I'm going to anyway. This apartment is going to be a safe place for you and a place that you can feel comfortable living in.” They said, wanting him to know that he has a safe place in the apartment, always. “It's just as much your place to live as it is mine and I want to know that and tell me what you need.”

“Really?” He sounded surprised by that and was trying to hide it in his voice, looking at them.

“Definitely, this is a safe place and you don't need to worry about anything like that.”

He looked down, almost like he was saddened by their reassurance that he was safe and didn't have anything to worry about. It was something that should've made him feel better but it didn't look like it had that effect. They asked if he was alright from his reaction.

Nodding slightly, he thanked them for being so kind and willing to help him out when he was nothing more than a stranger to them. They had no obligation to do anything they've already done for him. Still, he was grateful for it.
