A post showing off iolite pleochroism and how it relates to my gem oc!

Iolites can change between three colors depending on the angle you hold it. The desired color for faceted gems to display is the deep bluish purples (which are my OC's "default"), so they're faceted in that angle. Other colors it can exibit are greyish yellow and a light or near-transparent bluish grey.

My oc Iolite changes color when a Lunarian ship appears. When the ship is about to appear, their hair becomes yellow. After the ship has fully manifested, it becomes transparent. When there's no Lunarian activity, they're purple.

Ladies and gentlemen, the time has finally come to reveal the eight teams that will be participating in the Collab Event Tournament. I thank all those who volunteered to participate and sent in requests for their OC to be a captain or part of the team.

Just FYI: I had little to do with the team selection. I simply inputted everyone's OCs in a team randomizer, and it sorted up to four people in a team. So, without further ado, allow me to introduce the eight teams participating in the tournament...

As you can see, these are the participants and the teams competing in the tournament. I apologize if your OC wasn't chosen, but I assure you that doesn't mean that they won't appear somewhere in the collaboration. It lasts all month long, so they may be featured in a song or two.

For those who were chosen, take time to get to know your teammates and collaborate with them. If you aren't happy with your teammates, PM or IM and I'll see what I can do, but chances are, they're stuck there until the tournament is over.

What it's Like for Me, as an Aromantic Person, with Doodles to Represent it:

More specifically, me realizing I am aromantic.

Step 1: "I just haven't met the right person, yet." Aromantic and hasn't realized it, yet.

(hehe not me doodling Alastor since he's in this step lol) So, for me, I spent the longest time thinking that I'd meet somebody I'd fall in love with. Every time I'd notice a family member or friend getting into a relationship, I'd kinda sit there and think "I just haven't met the right person, yet! Soon, I'll find a relationship, too." It was only around the end of highschool that I moved into step 2.

Step 2: "I'M SO LONELY!!!" Aromantic and depressed about it.

I learned about the aromantic spectrum, and realized that I'm on there. I was immediately pretty down about it (don't understand why I was, nowadays). I thought I'd be lonely forever. A lot of people and media spread the message that romance is the end goal of life, and needed for happiness. So, realizing that I'd either never have it, or not experience it in the same way as others, made me feel isolated. Then, after some time, I moved on to step 3.

Step 3: "Heehee no romance drama!" Aromantic and accepting of it.

I realized that romance doesn't have to, and really shouldn't in my opinion, be the end goal of life. You don't need to to be happy. You can be happy eating good food, happy with fandoms, and happy with FRIENDS. I also don't have to deal with trashy relationship drama. At least, not while being a participating member of it. I might still have to listen to it lol. However, finding out a label for my identity doesn't really change my life. It just helps me describe myself. So even if I never found out I was aromantic, and still thought I hadn't met the right person, I'd still be ME. Just me without that knowledge.

Iolite - Lore (so far)

When I was thinking about Iolite, I was really inspired by the Iron Islands from Game of Thrones. If anyone has read the books (or seen the show but really, the books are much better), you may recognize some of the ideas!

Iolite is an island nation, or rather a series of small, gray islands with one larger main island called The Tooth

It has very few areas that can grow crops, therefore the economy is based on fishing the rich seas around the islands and mining the minerals found in its rocks

Iolite is ruled by a royal family. Proud and cold-hearted by reputation, the Darkwater monarchy has been in power for several centuries. Below is Azghul Castle -it glowers down on the people, dark and dank and impenetrable.

Townspeople

Most of the population either works in the mines or fishing industries. Leyla's adoptive mother went to the beach every day to look for oysters, clams and mussels which she would then sell in the markets.

The local seafood markets are one of the few tourist selling-points. Those brave enough to make the journey across the dark sea are drawn in by the richness and variety of the market.

Below is the home Leyla grew up in. Her adoptive father has some rank as head of the Aquastriders, the guild for all those who make their living from the sea, therefore they lived in more comfort than many others on the island.

But an island nation means it is only a matter of time before you have explored every corner and Leyla would look out at the sea, knowing deep inside that there was so much more beyond the horizon waiting for her....
