A man who sent sexual messages to an undercover police officer he thought was a 12-year-old girl has been sentenced.
Ruben Pretorius, 33, had messaged 'Megan' over an eight month period in 2021 and 2022, encouraging her to engage in sexual behaviour and sending her indecent pictures of himself.
Douglas Courthouse heard Pretorius had used a fake name while messaging the girl and jokingly said that she looked 14 when told she was 12.
Deemster Graeme Cook said he had been "overtly sexual" in his communications.
He was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
Video call
The court heard Pretorius, of Clifton Terrace in Douglas, and the undercover officer, who was based in the UK, initially communicated with each other on Kik Messenger before moving to Snapchat.
The messages included "frequent reference" to her being a school girl, and on one occasion Pretorius asked if they could have video call when her mother was "sleeping" so that she could "see me", the court was told.
The communications took place on a total of 40 days between November 2021 and July 2022.
The court heard while the messaging had dropped off during the summer of 2022, the police investigation was not launched until April the following year, with Pretorius arrested in July.
The 33-year-old previously pleaded guilty to attempting to procure gross indecency from a child as well as telecommunication offences.
Deemster Cook said that he was "not satisfied" as to why the constabulary "took as long as they did to arrest you".
The deemster said Pretorius was "one of the last" to be sentenced under 1992 legislation, and had it been under the new sexual offences legislation introduced on Monday it "would have been a different matter".
He was also made subject to a sexual offences prevention order, which restricts his access to and use of the internet, and ordered to pay £250 in costs.

Tagged by @vampiricsheep, thank you so much!
The rules of the game are to write one song for every letter in your url, and then tag as many people as there are letters in your URL.
Mostly Metal Edition.
B: Beautiful Death - Wintersun //top 3 or so metal song of all time tbh
L: Lokka Táttur - Týr
U: Ulvinde - Myrkur
E: Earth-Boiling Dystopia - Scythelord //5:06 <3
B: Brian Boru - Alan Stivell
U: Ukkosenjumalan Poika - Moonsorrow

G: Galgasång - Finntroll //another top 3 metal song of all time
I: Ignited - T.M. Revolution //you're welcome for the stylistic incongruity.
E: Eweroun - Falkenbach
Uuuh oh man I've already tagged so many people in the last tag game & don't wanna bother more of you 😅 but if any of you remotely musically inclined people want to do this take this free pass (@ me)!! Would absolutely love to check out your songs!
#what ive learned from this is that this is a surpremely stupid url for song selection#we could have had a “every song is in a different language” run but the E had to ruin it 😞#going through several band's entire discography and not finding any songs for any of the letters like. bruh.

The Farmer's Wife (Alfred Hitchcock, 1928)

The Manxman (Alfred Hitchcock, 1929)
Cast: Carl Brisson, Malcolm Keen, Anny Ondra, Randle Ayrton, Clare Greet. Screenplay: Eliot Stannard, based on a novel by Hall Caine. Cinematography: Jack E. Cox.
These nicely restored silent Hitchcock films don't have a lot that's "Hitchcockian" about them except his ability to tell a story visually. Even compared to his other silents like Downhill (1927) and especially The Lodger (1927), they feel a little routine. What sets them apart from his later work is the focus on working-class people: carnival workers, farmers, and fishermen. Two of them are romantic melodramas involving a love triangle, the other a comedy about a widower in search of a wife. The Ring is the liveliest, with an impressive opening sequence that establishes the carnival setting with some kinetic camerawork and introduces the hero, "One-Round" Jack Sander (Carl Brisson), a carny boxer who takes on all comers, with the promise that anyone who lasts more than one round with him wins a pound. His girlfriend, Mabel (Lillian Hall-Davis), is the ticket-taker, and our first sight of Jack in the ring comes as she pulls up a flap between her booth and the interior -- a characteristic Hitchcock point-of-view take. Hitchcock also doesn't show the fights at first, only the boastful contenders being knocked back by Jack's punches, until his real antagonist, the professional fighter Bob Corby (Ian Hunter), puts up a real fight. From there, it's a story of Jack's rise as a pro and Mabel's increasing infatuation with Corby, even after she marries Jack. This is the only film on which Hitchcock took a solo credit as screenwriter, and though it's an entirely predictable plot, it's a workable one. Brisson, the handsome Danish actor who plays Jack, returns in The Manxman, which is somewhat overplotted -- it's based on a popular novel. Once again, he's on the outs in a marriage. Pete (Brisson), a fisherman, loves Kate (Anny Ondra), a publican's daughter, who agrees to wait for him while he earns his fortune on an overseas voyage, but she also loves Philip (Malcolm Keen), Pete's best friend, a lawyer with ambitions to become a "deemster," the name for a judge on the Isle of Man. And when a report comes that Pete has been killed, she and Philip feel free to indulge their love, though his family opposes their marriage as destructive to his ambitions -- apparently Philip's father damaged his career by marrying beneath him. When Pete turns up very much alive, he marries Kate, who is pregnant with Philip's child, whereupon much anguish ensues. Eliot Stannard wrangles the material from the Hall Caine novel into something coherent, but Hitchcock rarely seems terribly interested in it. The Farmer's Wife gives Hitchcock a chance to show off a talent for comic pacing that he rarely exhibited in his later career except in the "lighter side" moments of his thrillers and in such marginally successful comedies as Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1941) and The Trouble With Harry (1955). The film opens with Farmer Sweetland's (Jameson Thomas) wife on her deathbed, followed shortly by the marriage of their daughter, leaving the farmer open to suggestions that he needs to take a new wife. Completely, and somewhat illogically, ignoring the pretty housekeeper, Araminta (Lillian Hall-Davis), he courts -- disastrously -- some obviously unsuitable local women before realizing that Araminta is the one for him. A hint of misogyny pervades The Farmer's Wife in the comic portrayals of the mannish Widow Windeatt (Louie Pounds), the prudish Thirza Tapper (Maud Gill), and the hysterics-prone Mary Hearn (Olga Slade). It could be said that a similar misogyny colors the portrayals of Mabel in The Ring and Kate in The Manxman, women who seem to have no fixity in their affections. But Hitchcock was never the most "woke" director when it came to the treatment of women in his films.

While you go with your opponent to appear before a jury grand, try to settle in the moment before you reach the witness stand, lest the claim of the deponent and the deemster’s dark demand land you in the midst of rodents, all alone in prison camp. You’ll be abandoned in your torment deep inside the can till each penny of atonement’s paid back to his hand!

The Fats Waller
1. The Fats Waller was born to Yuman eþlings in Paupuroats-borrough. His father was chosen as a Deemster and his mother was a Reckner in the Fats’ Hoff. His birth name was Milts. He learned under both his parents and was welcomed into the Hoff at [AGE] as a Reader, then as Paupuroats’ sheriff. Had he not been selected by commency for the role of Fats, he may still be Sheriff, or perhaps would have found a new place in the Hoff.
2. With ties to Paupuroati eþlings, Fats Waller would be close to F.’s family, and know that she ran off. He would likely have hired A. a handful of times, and had regular correspondence with the War Johns, would have had to perhaps reign them in, restricted their (sorties). (***Ask A/roleplay what it would look like) He likely had little to do with K. outside of certain meetings with Runewives, and likely none w/ G.
3. With the funs + goods from the Widework, FW further fortified Paupuroats (hence his name). He is loyal to Paupuroati lief, and did his best to divvy up resources to all kinds and shires, so all Arshland may benefit. He would, given the right circumstances, resist Sunly orders if it meant betraying Arsh and her bidding. He will tolerate Wonder-working, so long as new oaths are taken to Arsh and her lands. If any harm by magic, or disorder, reaches his ears he will get more distrustful and will insist upon a close eye. Even with a Deemster + eþling background, his law is often lenient, as his parents held strictly to Runewife teachings, which were more equitable under Arsh. For him, the only executable crime is treason to Arshoaþ.
4. FW is the oldest of three surviving siblings, the other two devoting themselves to the Heavenly Hoff as Steadies. The necessary shift in priorities has caused some tension, but otherwise has fostered a good communication. His parents are deceased and placed on the odefire, and their bones + ash taken to the Arshwilds.
5. Most Paupuoati-by-birth are raised with very little kind-hate, as Arsh herself fostered all who took her oaþ. FW will have only HEARD of some kinds, though, and may jump to conclusions about them. Frosties, Twits, Bugbear (esp now), Nomu, etc. As he is technically a kingsman, he is briefed on [War] efforts, and may hold unsavory assumptions about Dietu and Orkoy folk that color a lot of public opinion, but he is always a voice of empathy for the “other side”.
6. FW will avoid any opportunity to incur the King’s wrath, but mainly out of protection of Arsh’s home. He is a “I’m sorry but my hands are tied” type, but if that bridge winds up burned, he will choose his oaþ. He does in true eþling fashion, however, hold to ideas of brooking (caste?). Everyone has their role and such. He will often encourage churlish folk to find happiness in their lot rather than rule on much structural change. He is at the top of the Paupuroati chain of authority and will invoke the tradition of it to have the final say.
7. FW has the rich [adobe?] skin of the Yumans A’Dougn. Because of his deemstership, he does his kinky dark hair up with twine and small rune-carved rods, a transferring of tradition from Runewives to Deemsters + Steadies at the coalescence of Þriggwig [seen in Hestaklis with Runquna and bones]. His beard his similarly done, a decision he made to show his longevity and his intent to govern as a deemster would: fairly by the laws. He has a scar across his cheek, from when he condemned a band of Hiltwolves for their behavior and an attempt was made on his life. In Stormy Ernie fashion, his throat is tattooed with symbols of the [Voice] of Arsh, one of the oldest symbols of Paupuroaty leadership. He is robed in the purple, silks in warmth and cloth in cold, but otherwise remains unadorned, as he believes to display wealþ may misrepresent his priorities.
8. FW lives in the back of the Fatshall, built tall + wide for the holding of Hoff, and sharing of meat, according to Elfin tradition. Players must be noticed to invited here, or they can show up on Bean Day.
9. FW mainly gives bede to Arsh + the Earthmother (Mama Diggums), perhaps to Hevin Skyfather, his few super-Sunly loyalties. He did not allow the Fratlies of Bower to replace the Mama Diggums shrine. He, as Lufford, must also give bede to Sun Soul of Kings, and does so with grace. He will give bede at any Paupuroaty housel or rite, but he may prioritize other important things.
10. The Fats plays no music, practices no art, but will often visit the Reckners to keep up with the latest knowings and offer his mind. He hunts, in practice with how the landsfolk hunt, with thanks to the Soul who gave him his [sport].
11. The Fats holds Arshwenders like F. and K. in high regard, as he sees them as most directly upholding Arsh’s bidding. Similarly, folks like A. he admires [at a distance] for being a skilled fighter who eschewed both the Heer of the Sun AND the War Johns, applying his skill toward helping locals. Guy will fascinate him, but he will be wary of his wonderworks.
12. Prior to the Night of Falling Stars, FW’s biggest concern will be the Bugbear attack on the Arshbath, which he will have heard about from the Arshwives. He has by now likely sent a small band of Hiltwolves [Frithwikes?] north with Runewives who are seeking info from those in Bugbear-heavier communities. After the Night of Falling Stars, once a report of the danger reaches him, he will be bent on collecting any that have fallen in his realm. He’ll decree that to hoard any Stars is a treason to Arsh, and any who do shall face death. He will hoard them in a tomb/hollow so they may not cause harm.
13. FW has never wanted spouse or child, nor to foster, as he has always been bent toward duty and has internalized stories of gods cursing leaders for choosing loves over duties, or blessing them for their devotion. Many songs will liken the land + folk of Paupuroats to Arsh’s family.
14. Once before he made his high hopes known, FW was betrothed to [Akesha Pooper???] so he may bind their line to the Purpling, but as he found increasing favor it was clear he only found interest in the Hoff and its goings.
15. The Ambush at Arshbath was not altogether unusual for Arshmas. Many saw it as a drunken brawl that fizzled out with the fire, but FW and the Arshwives are tight, and they briefed him on the bethought importance of the Arshbath. So he is afraid of why it happened. He fears North//South strife [supposedly the old Kingslands lament the move of the Kingseat].
16. Given his pursuits, FW would have likely wound up in the Heavenly Hoff if he had not found a place in the Paupuroati Hoff. If he had to be given a class, it would be Cleric. Peace? Nature?
17. FW is a real spring-head, as it is the time of the Ershwhile, pleasant weather, good bloom, and plenty of food for all.
18. Þrigwegian lief around stars + seasons is more popular than [academic?]. FW was born in a winter, so you could say many silly superstitious things about that. More importantly, he has devoted [given?] himself to the Arshstar, and as such will join Arsh in her staryard upon death.
19. FW has of course travelled with Hoffs, and has seen much of the strife + hardship of other Þriggwegian lands. He has ‘seen enough’.
20. FW is not very regretful, I think, but here are some decisions he made with lasting ramifications. -Denied bean from the Purpling houses to increase the purple they used per year. -Spent resources from the Widework on walling the borrough + divvied the rest up amongst sheriffs for use in their shires, instead of as boons for eþlings and wolves. -The execution of drunk Hiltwolves who set fire to part of the Arshwild.
21. This decision set a begrudging precedent for living Hiltwolves, but also angered the remaining of that band. They attempted an assassination on a Bean Day. One Elfin wolf managed to slash him across the face, removing part of his ear and scarring away a chunk of his beard.
22. Often, when swooners? and crowders perform songs inspired by FW, they’ll use a few animals as comparisons. A Byrdling, for the complaint that he moves slowly and has hidden needlessly behind walls. Ummm....others.
23. There are perhaps some rulings in his life that keep FW up at night. Maybe he deemed over the A/WJs incident.
26. He is most proud of his loyalty to Arsh above all.
27. He is, as every Fats of Paupuroats, afraid that loyalty to Arsh will come into conflict with loyalty to Þriggwig and the Sun King, who could at any time vastly overwhelm them.
28. If the party holds a Star and they present it to FW AND tell him of their expertise in it, he will ask them to act on his and Papuroats’ behalf, but will need tough convincing if they want to keep it. Otherwise, they can get his attention by solving [or causing] problems. They will need to earn trust no matter what to be privvy to the Vault.
29. Outside of earlier listed hobbies, the FW does have 2 live-in crowders, from whom he requests songs about fair + beloved leads.
30. Upon first meeting, he may seem harsh + unyielding, leaning into his authority so the Stars end up where he wants them: hidden.
31. He will lean into the role very [stoicly], and will only budge from Authority Figure once he knows the group well enough to trust them.
32. He is ‘insecure’ about stepping on Sunly toes, and about any ‘cowardice’ he may exhibit in keeping his land + folk safe.
35. FW’s lowest stats are his STR and DEX, as he is [AGE] and never put much time into combat anyway. His CON is middling for living this long. His WIS and INT are high, obvi. CHA above average for the authority he bears.
38. As a deemster, FW was given as a boon a sum of wealþ and oaþs of three Hiltwolf lines, sworn to his own. They are not ‘possessions’, but they are as close to his ‘house’ as he has, and their children will not be bound, as he will not have his own. They are all Paladins [of the ancients???]
39. FW is searching for any and all Stars after they fall.
40. If he was being honest, FW would love to spend his days in a blubberyard outside the Ershwilds.
41. It could be argued that FW puts on a front of his authority to embody a value he sees in leadership, and at his most unguarded he is a smart Yuman with huge weight on his shoulders and a thirst for a peaceful life.
42. FW believes, truly, that his life is in service of Arsh’s will.
43. Scents????
45. FW will sometimes have the nightmare of Hiltwolves running wild in the borough and the Sun King refusing to give mercy for whatever slight brought it about
46. Thoughts on... -Senn Aquenns - FW thinks highly of the Guvlin, and esp of the Saucedaley, who often are sponsored for citizenship [a req that can only be made on Bean Day]. By the same token, raiders in Senn Aquenns often bully and harass both the Saucedaley and edgeland Paupuroati, allowed and unpunished by their own Lufford. Neither Lufford has brought it to the Hiltwolf bands for fear of the King’s reponse, however unwarranted. -FW is on good terms with each of his sheriffs, as their autonomy is largly be-bordered?? by the Arshoaþ anyway. The Mazhima of the Beekers gives him somewhat of a hard time, but it is necessary being so removed from everyone else. BUT, they’re a pain.
