real talk: did the bracket thing lacking any Lucien/Elucien moments shake you at all? None of the bs articles or anything ever bothered me bc it wasn’t BB or SJM. But now it’s making me anxious: Lucien is supposed to be the next book w Elain. Why wouldn’t they represent him at all? Shouldn’t they be hyping up the characters we will be expecting next? It’s the publishers job to control the narrative… I just need my Lucien book 😭😭

Not at all. This was a fan made bracket which basically equates to "HS Popularity Contest for Class President" so we shouldn't have expected Bloomsbury to list what they wanted to see. If the teachers and Principal were making their top selection for Class President, the qualities they used to make their choice would look a lot different than the rating scale used by a bunch of 16/17 year olds. Even what Sarah herself would select as the top ACOTAR moments would probably look a lot different than what a group of really loud fanpeoples might choose. Bloomsbury didn't decide who to hype up, they let the fans decide and I'm not bothered by Elucien not being "the most popular ship" in the fandom because the fandom only makes up a very small portion of ACOTAR readers. Many casual readers I've spoken to think Elucien is happening, don't think much at all about E/riel but still rank Feysand as their favorite couple of the series. So all this noise about E/riel, Gwynriel, and even Elucien, that's made by the most dedicated (aka obsessed) of us and while I have absolutely no shame in that fact, it's leaving out a huge chunk of people who could have contributed to the vote but have absolutely no interest in following Bloomsbury let alone gathering their forces to vote certain moments or create multiple burner accounts to vote with. And while I ADORE Lucien and think he's the best male of the ACOTAR series, I am realistic enough to acknowledge that the series has been focused on Feyre and Nesta and their mates so far. I love the Lucien scenes but I don't know that it's fair to put his moments as more important than anything we've seen for Feyre (especially), Nesta, or Elain. And with Feyre's home now being in the NC, of course the Bat Boys will feature more heavily at this point. That still doesn't change the fact that Sarah has been building Lucien up for something amazing and that fan favorite or not, she's going to write a POV for him whenever she wants to (just like she did with Chaol's book though he wasn't a fan favorite at that time). And since this is the same author who was so excited to shock readers with Bryce landing in Prythian, something she didn't even tell her husband about, I wouldn't expect anyone to hint at Lucien's book being next even if that is the case.

Hello again, fellow Glory fans! After a little detour into Reverse Big Bang, we’re returning in 2025 with your regular Big Bang. 😉

What is a Big Bang?

A big bang is an event where artists and writers are paired together to create a fic of a certain minimum length that is accompanied by an illustration. Participants generally find that the partnership and check-ins built into the event help with finishing works that would otherwise be challenging to do alone.

All works created for the event are kept secret until posting time. After the final check-in, all pairs are assigned a date to post their work so that (ideally) the TKA/QZGS tags will be flooded with fanworks for several days and we can all have a nice feast!

Fics and fanart of what kind?

Any kind you like! Characters, themes, ships, it’s all up to you. All fics will be at least 7k words long and artists will produce fanart based on the submitted fics.

How do I participate?

Just read the rules and schedule, then sign up with the form linked above.

Any special requirements?

As long as you’re dedicated, you should be good, but we will require your alias and your email address. You must also have an AO3 account, since that is where all works will be posted. We will be offering generalized updates and reminders through Discord, and more specific ones via email. (You don’t need to join our Discord to keep up!)

Can I back out at any time?

Pretty much, but try not to wait until the last minute to do so. We’d also prefer it if you didn’t disappear on us; just tell us if you no longer want to participate.

Why did you decide to create this?

The main intention is to always have on ongoing, set event that everyone can refer back to and participate year after year, even should this blog's activity decrease. Ideally this will also relieve some of the stress others may feel at the thought of creating new events from scratch, or simply provide an avenue to give spotlight to ships that don't normally receive attention. That being said, everyone is more than free to run separate events during any time slot; I'll be happy to advertise them here should they come up!

What tag can I use to participate?

In addition to the ship tag, you can use the following: #aoexshipweek #aoexshipweek2025, etc. You can also tag the account (@aoex-shipping-events) or send a DM to the account to make sure your entry is reblogged!

What if I want to participate but don't have the time/energy to create something new?

You can submit previously created fanworks! Alternatively, leaving feedback for other creators is a great way to be an active participant in this event, so don't be shy and reblog, leave comments on fics, artworks, etc!

Do I have to participate on every week/month event? Can I focus on platonic dynamics instead? What about polyships? Do whatever sparks joy, the world is your oyster, there are no limits!

What content will be shared by the account?

This event is accessible to all ages. Any type of media (fic, art, edits, etc.) is accepted, including 18+ content. Just please keep anything spicier under a cut or a link with appropriate content warnings for audience discretion.

Why did you include/not include [insert ship/character]?

The intention was to make sure to cover most of the popular ships (and give love to minor ones too!), while also keeping most months themed to a certain character to allow room for additional ships not included. December, for example, is all about Rin, so although Rin/Godaiin didn't get a dedicated week, feel free to have fun with this pairing anyway throughout the month of December!

What if I don't like/approve of [insert ship of your choice]?

Haladriel meta posts and accounts dedicated to that are fine, I love many of them here. Its when there’s this underlying need to take it upon yourself to declare what shippers can and cannot do or enjoy. We’re not in some cult. You don’t need to automatically exile someone if they don’t have what you perceive to be the “right” opinions. I mean, who are you to say that anyone who disagrees with your takes clearly doesn’t “get” galadriel because we maybe don’t hate a certain character everyone else wants to hate? It is not some sacrilege to multiship or to simply say, I don’t really care about x character, but I know other people in this group genuinely do and I’m not going to make them feel like shit about it or make generalized statements calling them fake shippers if they do so.

All of this to say, I find this all or nothing kind of approach to fandom extremely immature. Refusing to see others perspectives and making broad declarative statements about other ships or characters every other day is going to lead to perpetual misery. Constant ship wars is only going to lead to misery. If you want to do that sort of thing in your own spaces, that’s completely fine, but don’t be surprised when there are those here who don’t want to take part in that. And yeah, you’re going to get blocked lol

I feel that when people talk about the “most beloved character,” they’re often referring only to that part of the audience that enjoys unofficial ships and, in general, the fanon version of the show. But that doesn’t represent the entire audience.

For me, as a viewer, I’ve always understood Sam to be the one who truly represents change among the brothers. He’s someone who seeks more from life and refuses to settle for an imposed fate—whether it’s his relationship with hunting, the family dynamic, or even his own curse of having demon blood. We see him struggle, make mistakes, learn, and ultimately achieve what he’s always longed for.

Dean, on the other hand, has always felt like a character who goes in circles. He’s content with the life he has and doesn’t try to break out of it. Yes, he wants to save people, but I’ve never seen that drive as something rooted in deep conviction—it just comes with the job. I say this because of the times he’s shown no hesitation in letting the world fall apart if Sam isn’t there. He fights for Sam and with Sam when Sam wants to change things that disrupt what he sees as “normal”: hunting and their life together. To me, Dean’s storyline depends too heavily on Sam. Without Sam, I don’t think there’s much of an interesting story to tell about Dean, because his arc constantly revolves around him. That’s why I never saw Dean as the main character (for himself), and why I didn’t find his storylines particularly compelling when the show tried to focus on him—they always circled back to Sam.

When you say that the show favored Dean in certain seasons, I get it, and I can see why you’d say that. But from my perspective, we as viewers are meant to understand the motivations of all the characters—not just one. Letting yourself be carried away by one character’s narrative without critically engaging with what we’re shown is a disservice to the experience. It shows a lack of perspective. Without objectivity or critical thinking, the viewer ends up blindly following one storyline without putting it in context—and that, in itself, is a flaw. Supernatural is not that hard to understand. If a part of the audience needs it explained with pictures and colors to grasp it, then frankly, they’re missing the point.

Sorry for the long message, but I often notice that fans with dedicated accounts tend to be very one-dimensional. They get caught up in just one part of the story, despite having seen all of it and being capable of drawing a more nuanced conclusion. Maybe it’s because they’re more fans of a specific character (or the idea of a pairing) than of the show as a whole.

not sure if you’re talking To Me or to some of the audience through me tbh (sounds like a bit of both). I agree that supernatural is not hard to understand in terms of what it wants you to take away, however the fact remains that I very often disagree with these takeaways bc of what they say abt the cultural era(s) they were born in and the politics of its creators, and the fact remains that a huge swath of the audience overlooks - intentionally or not - the show’s explicitly stated ideas. both of which end up creating boundless opportunities for analysis and subversion, which I enjoy doing. I look at the fanon alongside the canon because of how incredibly pervasive it is and how it generally replicates or (often) worsens the problems with the canon.

to be frank this message made me stall a bit bc it reads like you’re assuming I know a lot less about the basics of the show than I actually do. I have to assume you haven’t followed me very long if at all. btw I don’t think connecting more deeply with one particular character automatically makes you “one-dimensional” - everyone does that. where we run into trouble as fans is when people start collectively rewriting the character with more broad appeal (objectively dean - this is not something I will debate you on because it is incredibly apparent if you look at fandom poll results or read the fic or the fan wikis or literally anything else; every segment of the audience prefers dean overall and this is reflected in all mainstream discussions of supernatural as a project. it is quantifiable.) because they are not thinking about why they prefer him in the first place and are taking defining traits from other characters and applying them to him, without first understanding the character dynamics as presented canonically.

sure the show is simple in terms of its writing, which only got weaker and weaker as time went on. but the relationship between the show and its audience is complex, and the relationship between its overt messaging and its covert messaging is complex, and the relationship between its Valid (subjective) versus Invalid (also subjective) fan interpretations is complex. if you’re passionate about something there is literally no end to the yap fodder you can find.

TL;DR I think you’re oversimplifying it. lol 😅 if you want to have a conversation about what I mean when I say the show favored dean give me a specific example I can expand on for you so I don’t exhaust myself looking at the whole picture.

i just wanted to share my first encounter with an ss hater and they're actually so funny, hating on fictional characters so much it becomes their anon identity, lol!

(it's just baffling that ppl go out of their way to comment their unaddressed frustrations 🤭)

It's also unfortunate how the anime vs manga portrayals of the og are significantly different in some areas that it created a world for all the misinformation and hate - specifically of course to Sakura Haruno. 😮‍💨

Yes indeed, the number of people who have entire accounts dedicated to hating certain ships is rather baffling.

So things like BBC Sherlock’s mormor, despite being a ship wjere one of the characters technically doesn’t exist, doesn’t count on account of being immensely popular and having several hundreds of fics made for them. WE’RE TALKING WEIRD. RANDOM. OBSCURE. There’s gotta be like 5 fics of them MAXIMUM(exceptions can be made if they’re all by the same one or two very dedicated ppl)

A lil bit of a small tangent, ignore if you don’t want to see me rant about the state of the hoyo fandom and all the homophobia/transphobia and everything in between because god…

So first off, I’m happy to have said this isn’t really prevalent on here which I’m so grateful for, but I still want to talk about it since it is an important topic to talk about if any of it dose somehow get onto here.

So to get straight to the point, there has been a lot of very hateful people in the community for genshin, honki star rail and zenless mainly the lgbtq part of the community’s where people have been making there whole account dedicated to say or “show evidence” that a certain character is straight or something else in that matter, and its most likely to get a reaction out of the people who are making these lesbian/gay ships of these characters and all the time each op ignores and or just makes fun of them which is very good and probably the best way to respond, but of course there are some who respond. Not super hard but they still respond, which then gives them the “im the victim” card which first of all is stupid u provoked it and also it’s obvious your trying to push out a “gay person bad, me good, be homophobic” type agenda to your followers or others (see first image bottom tweet)

And like, obviously and queer or gay media, even if it’s like fan headcanons or drawings will be swarmed by homophobia, it’s a hard part of life with being queer. But once we start talking about it or mention like, hey we don’t like this please stop trying to push this on us because like it’s not going to fucking work. And again, that’s when they pull the victim blame card to make it look like we started it and are the ones who are hating on like straight ships or straight people which, no we’re fine with it just that’s not for us don’t push it on us that’s all.

And other times it’s just straight up harassment from these people. People who draw or cosplay these WLW ships get bombard with hate and it’s like…so you can harass us and try to enforce this thing we don’t want, but once we say no we don’t like that you go and say “duhhhhh they hate straight people and straight ships duhhh” it’s like bitch no, it’s the whole “I like waffles.” “So u hate pancakes?” Type of deal, like bitch NO. Just, Guh it really hate how the majority of the community is like at each others throats.

All I want to do is spread positivity and show off the type of thing I like with zenless with it being quite queer and open to people like me.

Anyways, rant over sorry I didn’t really want to do something like this but I do feel like it’s something I needed to bring up.

not to once again bring twt discourse here but unfortunately i don’t have a dedicated anime account on there so here goes:

every time i see someone come up with a prompt along the lines of “would love to see Geto grovel for forgiveness from Gojo” a lot of people immediately start crying out about how that’s not canon compliant and how Gojo never held any of Geto’s actions against him and it kind of grates on me.

first of all: people are expressing that they want to see a certain dynamic for this ship in fan made works, just because it’s ooc or non canon compliant that doesn’t mean they don’t understand that that’s not the version portrayed in the source material

fanfiction (and stories of any kind tbh) is a medium a lot of people use to express/process/relate their own emotions and experience and a lot of people have been left behind by someone they held dear (be that a lover or a friend or a family member), so the want to see an “ideal” reconciliation where the person who left has to grovel and the people involved spend time talking about their feelings is pretty common

second of all: we can’t even say for sure that it’s canon divergent?!

a lot of people who balk at seeing this dynamic mentioned only talk about Geto’s crimes and i agree that Gojo was not particularly bothered by any of the objectively bad things Geto did (other than trying to kill Yuta but even that didn’t seem to affect Gojo’s feelings towards Geto, it just forced his hand in the end)

but there is a personal “betrayal” in Geto leaving him behind and not really explaining himself in a meaningful way in Shibuya, which is what most people who want fics/art of Geto having to work to rebuild the trust between them are thinking of, much more than any actual evil deeds

now, it is quite likely that Gojo blamed himself in canon, he does have a tendency of taking on all the burdens himself as an adult, and he does frame it as having to “catch up”, so he wouldn’t hold any grudges for that (at least not towards Geto, as opposed to the system that put them both in that situation).

Additionally, Gojo is not the most well adjusted, “looking inwards”, “treat yourself right” kind of individual so while he is hurt by Geto’s defection (hence him drastically changing behavior and it being his only complex) arguments could be made that he wouldn’t even be fully aware of that fact, like a lot of real people aren’t aware of how much something someone did affected them until years later (Gojo honey you need so much therapy for so many reasons, hope that airport has some good therapists for everyone)

Though he did also say that Geto “didn’t want to be saved” so maybe he did to some degree blame him for the fact that he didn’t open up to him when asked

in addition to those ramblings, we don’t really see a lot of post-defection interactions between the two of them under normal circumstances. The two times they really interact in an open fashion are a) while Geto is on his deathbed and b) in the airport/afterlife, neither are really situations where you would choose to bring up hurt feeling that need time and work to heal over. Geto, in his hair brushing scene with the twins seems to be whist fully regretting not talking to gojo after their “argument”

Gojo obviously didn’t resent Geto, he loved him beyond both their lifetimes, but i don’t think them running into trust/abandonment issues when trying to settle back into a “normal” routine and relationship in a long term way, or even Gojo keeping a distant front in an attempt to protect himself from further hurt (which he kind of does in their confrontation at the school in jjk0) during the very much also not canon secret meetings/AU where they both lived somehow is too dramatically out of character

tldr.: just because it’s not canon doesn’t mean it doesn’t make for fun fanworks, that’s what most fanworks ARE FOR, plus canon only gives us limited insight anyway so stop getting all up in arms over it

Whenever a female character is widely hated, put the blame on misogyny. However, a good chunk of fans of specific works (with certain exceptions) are teen girls and women. Is it a case of internalized misogyny, then?

Somewhat, yes, but it's also a matter of attraction.

A great deal of fandom is shipping, and people tend to be more drawn to ships that they are attracted to. No, it's not the be-all end-all, yes, you can love characters and ships that you don't find attractive and dislike ones that you do, but it adds a MASSIVE boost. You are more likely to consider ships when you find one or more of the characters attractive. You are less likely if you do not.

I'll use myself as an example.

I don't give a shit about m/m pairings unless they have strong canonical chemistry that appeals to me (or it's a REALLY well written fic) because I'm a lesbian. It is harder to make them appeal to me because I don't get the attraction boost. I will read Adamsapple fics (with a note that I am picky about characterization) because I find the dynamic compelling. I don't mind Huskerdust, but have never once sought it out. Alastor is the major ship-launcher in this fandom, but I have not and will not read any fics that dedicate a significant amount of time toward Alastor shipping (or read Alastor-centric fics in general) because I can't comprehend how people find him hot and I find what we saw of him in canon deeply boring, so there is absolutely no appeal. M/F is honestly largely the same. Constrastingly, although I obviously gravitate toward things I already ship, I will give almost any f/f ship a shot if the fic seems well written. (With another note that I am picky about characterization.) Why? Because there is additional appeal there to make me willing to give the author the time to convince me.

(This is without even getting into smut, and I don't think I need to explain the importance of attraction there. All of the M/M or M/F smut that I've written was as a gift to a friend or because the narrative demanded it. And guess what? The f/f I've written (on a burner account that ya'll will never see) was way better.)

The majority of fandom is women. The majority of women are attracted to men. So guess what? Attractive male characters and m/m pairings get most of the attention. And guess what else? Female characters often get in the way of m/m ships, which provokes hate. Especially around younger fans who might not be experienced enough with narratives to be able to get a female love interest out of the way without demonizing them.

If you want me to say that female characters just aren't as well-written as men, it's not going to happen. There are PLENTY of male characters who are flat as cardboard yet get tons of adoring fans and fandom doing the work to flesh them out to hell and back. Just look at Hux in the Star Wars fandom. There are plenty of extremely well-written female characters who are ignored in favor of the most prominent bland hot man. And yeah, it's because they're hot. And maybe it's a bit of misogyny too, but... from what I've seen, a lot of attention comes from attraction, and when it comes to female characters, much of the hate comes from ship wars that people don't want to admit are ship wars. Plain and simple.
