Been feeling restless lately and thought that the focus and rush of Making A Thing would help. So I turned to my AO3 bookmarks to find a short fic to bind. I found three loosely connected by a similar theme: people interacting with Ye Xiu without knowing he's 'Ye Qiu'. I ended up doing all of them as a mini three-book collection.

Unqualified Assistance was the first one I typeset, using Times New Roman because in the story Ye Xiu poses as a reporter. (Times New Roman -> newspapers -> reporters). I went back in and added the Permanent Marker for the AO3 info after using it in the next book.

I also added a faint Lorem Ipsum background to the title page and first page of the story as a nod to the reporter profession.

Unqualified Assistance is another Big Bang fic. I wanted to highlight the awesome artwork, so I kept the typeset on the minimal side and didn't use any other art. Lychee's work is so lovely and expressive!

For the bookcloth I went with green because in the fic Ye Xiu is known as 'Wang's Rookie' or 'Rookie Wang'. (Time for more word association: Rookie -> greenhorn -> green, and Wang -> Wang Jiexi -> Tiny Herb -> green).

For the endpapers I used cardstock in a colour matching the bookcloth cover. No artwork or decorative paper here, just colour coordination that I can carry throughout the set.

On a whim, I trimmed the textbooks and painted the edges gold. This, I think, was the last step that really made the books a set.

With some finishing touches in the form of endbands and labels, it was done. The faux endbands were made by wrapping bookcloth around a core (in this case, leather cording). The paper label on the front cover was printed on regular ol' printer paper (20lb) treated with a paste wax (wax & mineral spirits/turpentine mix). In the future I'll use 24lb paper, because the 20lb turned slightly translucent after waxing.

New Fic: This Father Means Business

Excited to share my fic for the QZGS Big Bang 2023! I was nervous to have my first work for a fandom that I love be a BB fic, but I'm so glad I went for it, as it's been a really fun experience (even if there were a few stressful weeks in there). Not to mention, I genuinely love how the fic turned out--Phew! Check out my fic here.

This Father Means Business is a 12k complete oneshot and is my first attempt at handling a fix-it. It got out of hand, story-wise, as most everything I write does, so I ended up cutting 2.5 of the planned scenes. BUT that just means there's more for me to write later!

In truth, I've been struggling to write fanfiction for the past six months, so I'm really grateful to the optimistic version of me who signed up for this event and forced me to get back into fic writing.

Wei Chen takes his self-given ‘this father’ title seriously, and he’s been working on himself since leaving all his kids like that was, well, shitty. It’s still a work in progress, but for all that reaching back out to any of them is still tied up with his own shame, grief, and self-loathing, Wei Chen can’t just sit at home after watching the utter travesty that was Season 5.

Or, in which Shinichi and Kaito try running from their past, only for it to get violently recalled into the present during one tense murder mystery on a cruise liner.

“Yeah,” Shinichi said, “and this may seem trivial, but—Yotsuba. Meaning, four leaves on a stalk. KID, do you know how the  Atropa belladonna plant looks?”

Of course I do. In the series of ‘Nightshade’ I have researched everything there could be to research.

Kaito’s head ached with the long hours of sleeplessness, helping out Meitantei with his case, researching and talking to witnesses, running interference whenever the other needed, while asking nothing in return. Nothing... only, could it hurt Meitantei to just glance at him once in a while?

Even now—even now!—so nonchalant as he flicked through the pictures Kaito had gathered for him, not even paying him attention as Kaito explained—

“Oi, KID—what?”

Huh. When had Kaito grabbed hold of Shinichi’s lapels?

Also... KID again.

“Shut up,” Kaito whispered. “Just stop it with the KID this and KID that!”

“Hey,” Shinichi said softly, gently, one hand wrapping around Kaito’s where it was crumpling his suit. The soft voice and hand sent tingles down Kaito’s spine. “I think you’re exhausted, KID, how about you—”

“I said shut up!” Kaito’s other hand went to join the first, abruptly pulling Shinichi closer, “I don’t want to hear it anymore! That’s all you ever call me, and I’m sick and tired of it!”

“Whoa! Hold on—” Shincihi tried, gently attempting to remove Kaito’s hands, but he wouldn’t let go.

“Do you understand me, Shinichi?” Kaito hissed, shaking the detective as he crowded into his personal space. “Do you understand—do you even see me?!”

A protest: “Of course I do!”

“No!” Kaito pulled him closer; Shinichi’s eyes wide as they remained fixed on his face. Probably for the first time since they had re-acquainted themselves on this ship. “Do. You. See. Me?”

QZGS Masquerade 2020 Update

Hi! I have a small update for anyone who is following me for Masquerade, a fandom event i hold for TKA where I invite writers to publish anon fic in the month of october so we can then have a guessing party on who wrote what

I just want to let you all know I’m moving the dates to Oct 15-Nov 15th due to the other writing event, Big Bang, running late this year (Big Bang fics are scheduled to be posted on Oct 15-Oct 30th). To give those writers who want to do both events some more time but to still keep the event in October for Thematic Purposes, I pushed back masquerade about two weeks  I’ll post an official event post on Oct 15th! Sorry for the inconvenience! If this is the first time you’ve heard of masquerade and you want to know more ahead of time, you can always check out my event posts from last year [here]. Basically everything will be the same besides the dates.

Allow us to introduce our debut Reverse Big Bang event!

Differently from a traditional Big Bang, in a Reverse Big Bang, the artwork is completed first. After being partnered with artists in blind claims, writers will use their chosen artwork as a fic prompt. Think of it as a fun challenge!

But just like in our Big Bang, the emphasis is the same: teamwork! After all, Glory isn’t a single-player game…

Ao3 Wrapped 2020!

I was tagged by @lynne-monstr to talk about my writing stats for this year, thank you! Okay so! 

Total word count for 2020 was 391,455 which is...uhhh...a lot and like...a huge percentage of my total word count for the entirety of my time on Ao3 so I’m actually really pleased about this because...wowo look at that productivity! Next year is 100% not going to measure up but the productivity this year! The number might go up a little depending on my SS fic and if I get anything else out before the year ends. 

Top by word count: 

So I have two fics that top this list which would be my Sanders Side fic “Broken birds of a feather flock together” and my Untamed fic “The river brings you home” but I’m excluding them from this list because they were started last year or the year before (I swear they’re not abandoned)  so excluding those, here are my top five!

1)  Show me how you fly at 30,222 words, this was for the QZGS Big Bang event and spiraled wildly out of control via word count as I was really expecting 10k at most. Mostly an excuse for wingfic and also stabbing both the characters and anyone who had to read this! Fun fact about this fic: There are about 3-4 spin off fics bouncing around in my head that I might possibly get to. 2)  See the arch to my back, the desire in my eyes clocking in at 16,260 this was entirely self indulgent and completely because I thought that it would be really great to have Yu Wenzhou as someone who was into pole sports and obviously bring in Huang Shaotian to panic over that. Fun fact about this fic: I completely blame the TKAA discord for enabling me.  3)  Lost and Found clocking in at 14,074, another event fic, this one written for the Young Justice Big Bang! Essentially me rejoining an old fandom of mine for a little while and it was a really nice reminder of how much I loved the series when I was younger so it was a fun blast from the past! <---that’s the fun fact. 4)  Come home to her this drops the word count to below 10k words at 9,699, uhhh this fic was completely borne from the TKAA discord essentially going: wouldn’t this be very painful but also heartwarming at the same time and my brain was like: you’re right! Fun fact about this fic: It Is Really Due An Update And I Will Get On That At Some Point. 5)  HST noisy mermaid YWZ long suffering guy who just wants to sketch but HST is flirting rounding out the list with 8,474 words, as you can see, I coped out on the title and used the sentence I used to keep everything straight in my “Actually Started” folder. Fun fact about this fic: this was actually my first foray into FSQ/WJX and then I tripped over a rock mae put in my way and I fell into the pit so congrats to mae I guess.

Top fics by kudos Again, I’m excluding the two mentioned above due to them being up since before 2020 I write too slowly I’m sorry  1)  Open affection this was a gift for tea and unsurprisingly a HWQ/YX fic as tea helps summon the hanye demon. 2)  I like this jacket. It's mine now. another hanye fic and another gift for tea (can you see that this doesn’t actually top the list of my favourite couples?) 3)  Night hunt gone sappy a modern Untamed AU based on artsy-alice’s AU, check out her art and fics for this AU of hers, they’re all Fantastic. 4)  Arts and crafts are hard, stick to Glory another hanye fic, this was actually my first attempt at the ship, again due to bait but I got some gorgeous art out of it so I guess I won in the end. 5)  How Yu Wenzhou's professionalism got ruined yes finally a yuhuang fic okay so this wasn’t my first yuhuang but it remains one of my favourites literally because I think the image of YWZ with streaks of bright rainbow hair is absolutely hilarious and honestly I think that’s entirely valid.

Hanye topping the list here which isn’t really a shock considering how many love them and I am unsurprised that one of my Untamed fics made the list considering the size of the fandom but yuhuang still managed to eke out a place in the top five and I’m very proud of them for that, well done! 

If I had to sum up this year...nyoom writing with droughts inbetween!

Ye Xiu moves to steal some of Tyrannical Ambition’s latest technology from a Martian research facility in order to upgrade his mobile suit, Lord Grim, while Chen Guo coordinates the mission from high above Mars. She’s more than a little relieved when he makes it back safely...
