“If there is one sadness in this turn of events,” Alison says, “it is merely that we—you and I—the two of us—have been denied the sprawling story of a true and whole courtship.”

Fraser cannot resist raising his eyebrow in query, a million sharp retorts on his tongue. They sit in a garden outside Trafalgar House, and a burst of laughter from the dinner party within grants him a moment to consider which ammunition to volley here.

He finally settles upon, “What, pray tell, could we do as awkward and unacquainted strangers that we cannot do now?” and fondly bumps his fiancée’s shoulder in reminder.

“I would have liked to be less angry with you for longer, for starters; we’ve no letters to—”

Alison’s explanation is cut short as Fraser lifts her hand and calmly removes her evening gloves, folds them neatly upon his thigh, and twines his bare hand with hers.

“This could hardly be considered a ball, but—will a chaste touch of skin in the privacy of a stolen moment do?” he asks, with a smoldering look he hopes is taken as rakish and brazen.

Alison narrows her eyes, torn between irritation and amusement as she so often is in his presence, and she obligingly squeezes his hand and says, “Oh, if it must,” around a smile.

Desperate Times

Prompt: “Pumpkin spice shortage at Starbucks” from @roamingbadger

Notes: Finally posting something for this ship, but it’s really just implied Alison/Declan and focuses on Charlotte and Declan interacting. Set in a modern AU because of the nature of the prompt and because I dare not attempt to write canon-era Sanditon fic. I haven’t finished Season 3 so Charlotte’s just by herself here.

Charlotte Heywood hurried to answer her apartment door, anxious to find out the reason for the insistent knocking coming from the other side.

“Declan,” she breathed, her gaze rising to meet her brother-in-law’s worried face. Sometimes, she wondered if Alison really had to marry the tallest soldier in his squad.

“Charlotte, you have to help me.”

“What’s the matter? Is Alison—?”

“She’s all right. It’s myself I’m worried about.”

“Come in,” she said, ushering him in, noticing that he had a grocery bag cradled in one arm. “What’s all that?”

“Supplies,” he mumbled, and Charlotte wondered if he was being serious or joking. She couldn’t always tell, but before she could inquire further, Fraser asked “May I use your kitchen?”

She blinked at the odd question, but led him through to the room.

He began taking things out of the bag he had brought with him, and she saw a few cans of pumpkin purée and some spice bottles. His plan began to dawn on her.

“Alison asked you to go to Starbucks, didn’t she?”

“Aye,” came the reply. “But they were out of the pumpkin spice thing she wanted. Anyway, I was passing by a shop and figured, why not try to make my own?”

Charlotte nodded. She had seen copycat recipes for various Starbucks items online. “How can I help?” she asked determinedly, and he shot her a relieved smile.

“Help me test recipes? I’m not one for those flavored coffee drinks.”

“Well, this version will be without coffee,” she pointed out.

“Given Alison’s condition,” he finished.

Charlotte couldn’t resist saying, “It’s the 21st century, Declan. You’re allowed to say ‘pregnant.’”

He dropped his gaze in embarrassment, and the oldest Heywood daughter could see how endearing a sight that could be to his beloved wife.

“Well, come on, then,” she urged him, giving him an encouraging pat on the shoulder. “Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work.”

“Yes, Miss Heywood,” he said obediently, following her to wash his hands at the kitchen sink. Charlotte turned her head in time to catch the smirk on his face that told her he was teasing her, and though she rolled her eyes upward in exasperation, she couldn’t keep a fond smile from forming on her face.

Lady Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith), the absolute queen of Downton Abbey. What more can be said?

Day 6: Favourite characters.

William Buxton (Tom Hiddleston), Cranfords resident dog dad. Have to give a shout out to Sykes, Hiddles may have been my teenage crush but he will forever be my favourite actor RIP.

Best trait: Hopeless romantic.

Elizabeth Butler (Charlie Murphy) she has it all talent to sing, brains to train as a doctor, born into money yet has a heart for those "beneath" her. Truly embodies the spirit of Rebellion, I wish she was in the second series or at least had more than that one line mention.

Best feat: Joined the Easter rising faught and healed, all while looking stunning in her wedding dress.

This is in no particular order appart from definitely number 1.

Best line: Wouldn't dream of it *sassiest head wobble known to mankind*

Captain Declan Fraser (Frank Blake), Sanditon season twos real heartthrob. Them eyes you could swim in with the sarcastic smile, why did any of the ladies look at anyone else? Heroic, intelligent, dry sense of humour and sensitive to boot. Austinesque swoonwodthyness at its peak.

Abigail Hill (Emma Stone), so pure yet so evil, no wonder she is The Favourite. Amazing characterisation, still can't figure out if I love or loath her but I'm here for it.

Greatest feat: Changes the course of a war whilst holding the position of a maid.

Benadict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson). If Colin is the labrador of the family, Benadict is the cat. Appreciative of the finer things in life, values aesthetics, is willing to play by his own rules and is very loving to his family (I especially love his relationship with Eloise, he doesn't understand her struggles but he still wants to listen and share a cheeky cig).

Best line: Poetry is the art of revealing precious truth with words.

Oh boy, the chance to blurt out more deranged head thoughts!!!!

Harry Kane. Is a dad. Everything he does is through the gaze of being a father. Enjoys a very very dry dad joke. He and Jude are publically good friends quietly they loath each other because Harry is aware he is being replaced as the face of the team and Jude has a youths contempt for not wining.

Jude - very popular with his age contemporaries at Real Madrid. Actively disliked by his age contemporaries in England despite being made part of leadership group to liaise with the older and younger players).

Okay, so… football players even the shy ones are not short of an ego. Cole Palmer had England plans and has no interest being second place. Bukayo is the nicest person ever but sees himself above Jude in the pecking order. Kobie Mainoo thinks he’s a pussy for not playing in England. Trent is his mate in England but would much rather give a blow job than talk about the web of rivalry.

Jude is popular with the older players (think Declan and James Madison and stones) Anthony Gordon thinks he is a teachers pet who narcs and Phil Foden thinks he is a plastic human and part robot. Deeply resented. (Sorry that got long)

Levi Colwill - loves London and fashion and has his eye on a career in the boardroom after football. Is very calculated. Will potentially try to undermine Enzo. In fact the Chelsea history of backstabbing and leaking to the media is striking this year.

Anthony Gordon - hates bullies. Has a history of leaping in headfirst and falls in love too quickly.

Jordan Pickford disgustingly may fall into a future in politics.

Bruno G is a terrible driver. Not bad per se but constantly distracted. Waves his arms around not keeping one on the wheel. Turns his entire head to look at the person he is talking to instead of having his eyes on the road. Constantly saying “my friend you must listen to this song!” Bunny hops the car pushing down on the accelerator when he chair dances. Terrifying.

Pep - picks a favourite every year. They get “one on one” coaching and I mean getting fucked. Everyone knows it’s wrong but he’s so disgusting good at it they all just accept it. (Ruben Dias this year to make up for Julian leaving).

Kylian Mbappe desperately in love with Hakimi so much so that he was going to convert. Blindsided by the allegations. Was trying to find a way of playing off his wife to let Hakimi have the kids. Will not admit the blinders he has for him. Ever.

Lewis Hall didn’t play as many games last season. It because he wasn’t physically ready but because he was emotionally still childish. Like over celebrating and not being in control of his emotions. Eddie likes only a small amount of passion in regimented doses.

Kyle Walker. We only KNOW about six kids.

NUFC do not tolerate leaks to the press it’s why Ryan Fraser was banished. Eddie Howe and the Saudis have one thing they agree on one hundred percent. No one leaks info.

Notes: Fill for the “corn maze” prompt by @roamingbadger. Alison/Fraser modern AU. A simple title finally came to me that I liked.

It had seemed like a quaint idea, going into a corn maze. Suitable even for children, Fraser had thought. But then, he and Alison had arrived at the maze, and he had seen the tall green stalks and how closely grown together they were up close. His young wife, however, had seemed undeterred by the sight.

“It’ll be fun,” she had assured him, and only her bright smile had given him the courage to follow her into the maze.

It hadn’t been long before she had overtaken him, eager to find the correct path and continue forward, and Declan soon found himself alone and seemingly surrounded on all sides by walls of green and yellow.

He did his best to move through the maze, but his pace was slow and cautious, and the autumn day was waning, the lengthening shadows and growing dark making him question if he had already been down these paths. Was he simply going in circles? Was it possible for one to become trapped in a corn maze? Surely not. Surely someone would come and fetch him.

He had the sudden wish for a sword or a scythe, something—anything—with which he could cut down the stalks of corn and make his own straightforward path to freedom!

“Declan?” a voice called. Alison’s voice had never sounded so sweet—well, aside from their wedding day when she had said, “I do.”

“Here,” he called back. She rounded the corner on his right and he enfolded her in a hug.

“You’re shaking,” she murmured, feeling his body trembling. “Come on. We’re almost at the end of the maze.”

“Thank God for that,” he muttered as they walked side-by-side down what he hoped was the final corridor of this living nightmare.

“I grew worried when I got to the end and you didn’t appear,” Alison explained, looping an arm through his. “I insisted that I go back and look for you.”

She leveled a hard stare at a vest-wearing attendant, who grimaced but said nothing as the couple exited the maze and walked on.

“I suppose I’ve got some issues with enclosed spaces,” Declan said slowly. “Never really happened before.”

“Well, no more mazes,” Alison promised as they walked back to their car. “Corn, hedge, garden—“

“I’d wager the ones on paper should be safe enough.”

She huffed at his interruption but observed, “It’s a good sign if you’re joking.”

He gave a brief chuckle and then took in a deep breath of air as he stood in the open parking lot and opened the passenger side door for Alison.
