Adam Birkan Solo Exhibition: Sukhumvit

The Kathmandu Photo Gallery in Bangkok, Thailand is presenting Adam Birkan’s solo exhibition Sukhumvit. The installation, which will be Adam’s first solo exhibition in seven years, is on display from Friday, December 6 through February 1, 2025 with an opening reception being Saturday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m.

The body of work is from Adam’s book Sukhumvit: The Third Road and is a visual exploration of one of Thailand’s most iconic highways. Curated by Thai photographer and founder of CTypeMag, Akkara Naktamna, Adam’s fine art photography series captures the vibrant and often overlooked moments of daily life in the Sukhumvit area. Through his lens, Adam delves into the city’s complex power dynamics—its rich history, cultural contrasts, and the interplay between old and new. Each photograph contributes to a larger narrative of Bangkok’s evolving identity. Adam explains, “The section of the road explored in the book is the roughly 17-kilometer stretch within the boundaries of Bangkok. Within it, we find a breadth of life that can only be described as a microcosm of Thai society and, even more broadly, society as a whole.”  Explore Sukhumvit and the gallery exhibition online here.

Michael Piazza photographed Eastern Standard bar director Jackson Cannon for a feature in the latest issue of Imbibe magazine entitled, “How Jackson Cannon Helped Build (and Rebuild) Boston’s Cocktail Culture.” Written by Robert Simonson, the article chronicles Cannon’s journey of reviving Boston’s bar scene—particularly the Eastern Standard, a modern Brasserie bar and restaurant near Fenway Park—after rediscovering his passion for hospitality during the pandemic.

Adam Birkan Airbnb

Adam Birkan photographed Airbnb’s “Guest Favorite” homes across Asia, traveling through Thailand and Indonesia over a 9-day production. From Bangkok to Bali, he documented the most unique and beloved stays, including beach bungalows, jungle A-frames, and tree-top homes. Through drone photography and stills, Adam captured the warm, inviting interiors of these Guest Favorite homes, set against the stunning twilight of their natural surroundings.

Michael Piazza The Garlic Companion

Michael Piazza photographed the new cookbook and guide The Garlic Companion from Storey Publishing with art direction by Carolyn Eckert. Written by fifth-generation farmer Kristin Graves and styled by Catrine Kelty, the book celebrates all things garlic and includes endless tidbits about growing, cooking, and crafting one-of-a-kind garlicky recipes.

Author and farmer Kristin Graves contextualizes garlic’s significance while sharing her personal struggles and successes as a female farmer in Alberta, Canada. The stories are accompanied by photographs Michael shot on Kristin’s farm during harvest, as well as recipe images of 36 recipes shot in the studio in Boston, Massachusetts.

Adam Birkan traveled to Cape Town, South Africa to document light and life for his new series, Light You Can Touch. Shooting with Kodak Gold 200 and Portra 160 film, Adam’s images capture the fleeting, glimmering light that suffuses the landscape of Cape Town. The photographs chase light through beach seascapes, urban streets, and striking yet tranquil scenes of everyday life from within the capital city.
