Ok yes I may be a bit tipsy but I'm rewatching season 2 of Daredevil for the Punisher subplot and still just can't get over the relationship between Karen and Frank and how it formed. How Karen's character displays both a strong sense of strength and empathy that she then uses to help others, whether it be Frank or Grotto, and even with that conflict of interest (Frank was 110% making sure Grotto was dead and buried), Frank still gravitated to her because of her desire to help shed the truth behind the horrible tragedy that happened to him and his family. Karen was the only one in the law firm to show that empathy, and you see Frank looking over to her frequently during the interviews and when he was on the stand, because she was his anchor that he could ground himself to. Neither like to sugarcoat themselves, and because of that, the gentleness and kindness each showed each other was genuine, and culminates in their desire to protect each other in whichever way they can, and I'm dying once again I hate that we're never gonna get a Punisher s3 with these two aaaaggghhhh

‘Daredevil’ Star Deborah Ann Woll: Marvel Hasn’t Called Me to Join Disney+ Reboot, So ‘I Am Not Part of It’
By Zack Sharf  Nov 17, 2022 (X) (X)
Tumblr media
Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are making the jump from Netflix’s canceled “Daredevil” series to Disney’s upcoming limited series “Daredevil: Born Again,” but their former co-star Deborah Ann Woll might not be following. “True Blood” alum Woll starred opposite Cox as Karen Page on all three seasons of Netflix’s “Daredevil.” Considering Karen was a prominent character on “Daredevil” and Matt Murdock’s primary love interest, many Marvel fans have been wondering whether or not Woll would appear on “Born Again.”
“I can say this: they have not called me yet. So, as of now, I am not a part of it,” Woll revealed on a recent episode of the “Inside of You” podcast (via Total Film), hosted by “Smallville” alum Michael Rosenbaum. “I would be thrilled to get to be a part of it. They know where I am. Like I said, I love the character Karen Page. I love telling that story. I feel like I have more to say. But it is up to them what kind of story that they want to tell.”
Netflix pulled the plug on “Daredevil” in fall 2018 after three seasons. The show never got to resolve its storylines and craft a proper series finale.
“The Marvel series feels unfinished to me because we got canceled when we thought we were going to have more,” Woll said. “There’s a part of me that was like, ‘I had more to say about Karen,’ and I felt I was in the middle of that story.”
Cox has already made the jump to the proper Marvel Cinematic Universe by reprising Matt Murdock/Daredevil in a “Spider-Man: No Way Home” cameo and in a couple episodes of the Disney+ original series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.” In the series, Matt becomes romantically intertwined with Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), so if he’s going to have any love interest in “Born Again” it might be Jennifer and not Karen.
Disney and Marvel have only confirmed Cox and D’Onofrio (back as Kingpin) for its “Daredevil: Born Again” cast. The series is set to run 18 episodes.

Deborah Ann Woll Movies thoughts…
So this week, while I’m also watching Nancy Drew and Pennyworth ( I’ll make posts on my thoughts on those two as well once I’m finished with them) I decided to watch two of Deborah Ann Will’s movie. She’s one of my celebrity crushes and character crushes as I’ve mentioned before, as Karen Page. I watched “Silver Lake” and “Forever” with her in it and thought she was great and just gorgeous in both. I also loved her in True Blood and Escape Room. Overall I liked forever a bit more with the themes of loss and her being a journalist is very fitting for some reason, it was as Karen too. Silver Lake was a cute film with an Indie feel to it but I wasn’t a huge fan of the leading man. She was adorable in it though and her playing a mother is was interesting. I’m thinking of also trying to watch Ida Red and the Automatic hate with her in it(I’m also planning on watching the 355 for Sebastian soon so stay tuned for that post as well.) Overall, I love her even more now and hope she gets new roles soon or comes in for the new Daredevil series! She’s also beautiful, so that doesn’t hurt.

On Party of One, and Professional Introductions
tl;dr: I’m looking to expand my guest pool for Party of One with guests outside of the TTRPG and Actual Play circles, so we can introduce the show to new audiences. If you know someone doing cool work who you think would enjoy the show, introduce me! Shoot me a DM; we’ll talk.
My birthday is tomorrow, which marks the start of my new year, which means I am looking ahead to the next year and where I want to go in that time.
With that in mind, I am putting out into the aether (and probably into a few people’s specific DMs) a request, to help me push Party of One where I want it to go in the coming year.
The request: Introduce me to your cool friends.
The biggest opportunity I see with the show in the coming year is bringing on guests that you won’t hear on any other Actual Play show. Specifically, I’d like to feature more guests entirely outside of the “indie TTRPG publishing” or “Actual Play” circles. That, to me, is the best way to grow the show, to introduce it to new audiences who might have never considered checking out an AP show before.
I’m talking about writers, artists, comics creators, pro wrestlers, podcasters, actors, singers, athletes, journalists, scientists… you name it.
I want to lean into the conversational, interview-esque nature of the show, and introduce audiences to a new side of guests by showing them a fun game experience. I want to give guests the Deborah Ann Woll/Jon Bernthal experience.
I also want Party of One to be people’s entry point to Actual Play, and I believe this is the best way to do it. To put the artform in front of new audiences so they can see what makes it special.
And to make that happen, I need your help.
I have my list of folks I plan on reaching out to directly, but the truth is, nothing opens a door quite like a personal recommendation. Cold emails only go so far.
So I turn to you and say: If you happen to know someone doing cool work, someone who you think “man, it’d be wild to hear them play a TTRPG on a podcast,” and you know my work… Consider introducing me.
Shoot me a DM or an email before you send the introduction proper, just to make sure I know it’s coming. But let’s talk.
Or, alternately, maybe that cool person is you, the person reading this. If so, shoot me an email and let’s chat! I’d love to hear about the work you’re doing.
I appreciate your help in this matter.

🪱🪱Worm Wednesday!!!!!🪱🪱
I was tagged by the lovely @hotluncheddie! Hello, I'm sorry for the rambling mess this is going to be. But I know I missed this like two weeks ago, so bear with me.
Okay, I'm going to try and be normal here. I have, honestly, so many worms in my brain. They're dancing and stomping and I'm just going fucking nuts with how much is in my brain at the moment. And also I took excedrin this morning for my migraine and that had caffeine in it and it's more caffeine than I would normally have—anyway.
Y'all already know one of my brain worms, the whole omega verse sensitive nips omega Steve thing. Which, I will plug the post here because I don't have the energy (yes, I do, but I don't want to echo myself) to share all the craziness about that in one post.
I'm also thinking about young Steve Harrington, which is kudos to this post and lots of people's tweets over on the twitter. I won't go into it, same reasons as the omega verse thing so just...again, bear with me.
But! But the actual brain worms I'm having currently, in this very moment, also have to do with another post I made on here. I want to go more in-depth with, though. So, some days ago, I came across an Instagram Reel that was a clip from the YouTube video interview between Jon Bernthal and Dungeon Master Deborah Ann Woll.
So, brief brief summary of this video is basically: Jon Bernthal says that he wants to play D&D, Deborah Ann Woll then gives him a scenario of walking through the woods and while he's walking he hears snap of twigs, and then she basically prompts him with "What do you do?" And he responds, now I can't remember exactly what he says, but I believe it had something to do with investigating the source of the snapped twigs.
Anyway, the video is excellent and you all should check it out. She basically explains D&D in a way that would make sense to anybody, in the matters of asking a player or a potential player what they'd do in certain scenarios, then bringing in the "rougher" elements such as the History checks or Perception checks in the game.
And I want to write something along the lines of Steve approaching Eddie about D&D. Maybe he wants to play because Dustin keeps bugging him about it, but he's too nervous to accept. Maybe he just wants to know what it's like. Maybe he even wants to be a substitute player one of these days just in case somebody can't show up. Something, y'know, where he's approaching Eddie. But he's really, really confused about where to even begin. He's got a character sheet, he's looking at the manuals loaned to him or he even bought himself, he's looking at all these stats and all these options and he just doesn't know where to begin.
Also, brief intervene here, I would be basing this off of 5e rules because that's what I play and frequently toy with. So...don't be mad at me if I get something "inaccurate for the time". I, first of all, honestly don't care. And second, I was not alive in like 1977 when the game first came out. And there's nobody in my life who played it then or possibly has played it ever outside of 5e. Moving on.
So, he tries to explain his character sheet to Eddie, obviously getting a bit overwhelmed in the process. But Eddie stops him. Says something like, "Hold on, okay? Let's just take a baby step here. I'm going to give you a scenario and then I want you to tell me what you'd do."
And he lays out that same, or even just something similar, to what Deborah Ann Woll gave. (I'm going to base this off of the video. Very original, I am.) So it's something like:
"Okay, you've got a small dagger attached to your belt, it's concealed within a hilt. And on your back, there's a bow and a quiver—or a pouch—of arrows. You're walking through the woods. It's dark, heavy clouds hanging overhead, moon obstructed, you can barely see your surroundings. There's leaves under your feet, gravel, sticks. But then, before you can step your foot down next, something crunches in the distance on your left. What do you do?"
There's a pause. A long moment where Steve is considering his options.
"It's a far away sound, right?" Steve checks and Eddie nods. There's a little hmph from Steve as he continues to think. "Can I tell how far away it is? Is there a way to distinct the length of it?"
Eddie maybe smirks, eyes already glowing. "Give a perception check." And at Steve's befuddled expression, leaning in and brows furrowed, Eddie continues on. "So, you're going to roll one of those dice that you always see the kids with. The D20, that's the one you'd use right now. 20 is the highest you can get"—
"The best I can get. And 1 is obviously the lowest, so the worst."
"Right! So...let's say you were to pick up a D20 right now and roll it. You get a...a fourteen. And your perception, one of those skills on the top of your paper"—and Eddie would grab Steve's character sheet, to point out the number he already placed there—"this one right here. And on your paper, it looks to be pretty high. A sixteen is what you have. So...I'm going to ask you to add three more to your dice roll."
Steve squints at the paper. He doesn't take long to do the math, muttering a little under his breath. "Okay...I'd have a seventeen for my perception check." And he looks up to Eddie for confirmation, in which he gets. "And if it's possible out of twenty...that means I can probably figure it out well, right?"
Eddie nods with a smug hum. "You're already a natural." He leans back a little from Steve. Eyes away in thought. Goes on, "So, I'll know right away, based on that number you give me that you're extremely perceptive. I tell you...okay, the sound you hear is roughly ten feet away on your left."
"That's really close," Steve murmurs. "I think I'll...I'll ready that bow on my back. Take it off, grab for one of my arrows. Poise it."
"Mmm...And as soon as you get your bow in the right position, you begin to make out what seems like a pair of eyes. From the darkness between the trees, those eyes emerge closer and closer, revealing the large figure of a sixteen foot owlbear. Its feathers are spread wide, splaying defensively. Eyes glowing, it seems, yellow and bright. The body girth of a bear, but the head and mannerisms of an owl. It trills and squawks in your face. What do you do?"
Anyway, it would go from there. Tried to figure out a monster that wasn't an owlbear because that's what was used in the video. But uh...my brain is not being original right now, so that's basically the whole example from the video. But I just adore that video so much, the simple, yet impactful way she taught the basics. And I think it could translate so well to Eddie and Steve messing with D&D together.
Sorry for a long ass post lmao

Sometimes I'll just be living my life and I'll casually remember that we're getting Jon Bernthal back as Frank Castle, and my day will get a little better.
I love Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. I LOVE HIM. But for some reason, it always felt less possible to see Bernthal come back as The Punisher. And IT'S HAPPENING.
And I'm super bummed that (for now, unless something changes) we won't see Frank and Karen Page again. Because, WOW, Deborah Ann Woll is fantastic as Karen. She and Frank's dynamic is one of my absolute favorites.

Hey. Why do you think Karen Page is a character people seem to hate so much? I’m fairly new to the fandom and I’ve seen people even badmouthing the actress as well, which is awful. I am curious to know what you think about it.
Welcome to the fandom! 💖 I'm so excited for you and I'm super happy that, despite being newish, you're interacting like this. (It took me an embarrassing amount of time to be brave enough to send asks to people lol.)
Also, this is such an interesting question.
I want to address the attacks against Deborah Ann Woll first. No matter how anyone feels about a character, it's absolutely despicable to attack the actor over it. Most of the attacks I've seen have been about her looks, or about her acting abilities. It's fine to critique acting abilities, but looks should be off the table. But even the critiques of her acting abilities aren't actually critiques - they're just, like you said, badmouthing, with little to no analysis. To me, that indicates that they're hating on the actress just because they're emotional (angry or annoyed) over the character.
So why do people get so emotional over Karen?
I think the easiest explanation is: ship wars. Some people struggle to enjoy their favorite ship without tearing down competitor ships. And since Karedevil is one of the few ships that was actually canon (albeit temporarily, but S3 ended with them being pretty flirty again), Karen becomes a huge target.
Another explanation is that Karen appears to be written inconsistently. Personally, I don't think she actually is (except perhaps in The Punisher; I'm not sure because I've only seen S1 of The Punisher). The argument goes: "She loves Daredevil until she finds out Daredevil is Matt, and then she treats it like an addiction, despite being supportive of Frank."
The counter-argument, to me, is clear: she still loves Daredevil, but she hates being lied to and put on a pedestal. Matt did both of those things. Frank (for the most part) did neither of those things. Her issue is with Matt, not Daredevil (which she makes explicitly clear in S3E1, but people still apparently confused on this point). With that in mind, I think she's written consistently in an incredibly nuanced way.
Another explanation is that Karen is a character who doesn't learn from her mistakes. She's rash and reckless and she lies just as much as Matt, and more often than not, people end up dead because of it. Ben is the most obvious and chilling example. Yet even after her actions get Ben killed, and she expresses serious guilt and remorse, she continues to do the same thing. That makes people wonder: is she stupid? Or, worse: was her guilt and remorse only an expression of her personal grief, and not actually the result of evaluating her actions affected Ben?
This, to me, is the most fair critique of Karen, and I sympathize with people who dislike her because of it. I will point out, however, that Matt and Foggy also repeat the same mistakes. It's obvious with Matt; it's talked about less often with Foggy, but I roll my eyes every time he acts like Matt and Karen are being reckless for wanting to operate outside the law - despite the fact that every time they limit their plans to operating inside the law, people end up dead. This makes me wonder: is Foggy stupid? Or does he simply care more about keeping Matt and Karen alive (and out of jail) than he cares about other people dying?
The actual explanation, I think, is that Daredevil is a show about very flawed and surprisingly realistic characters. People rarely shake off old habits and bad ways of thinking quickly. No matter how many times you tell a person that their friends are there for them, they (like Matt) may continue to push people away if that's their coping mechanism. No matter how many times you tell a person to ask for help before doing something alone, they (like Karen) may continue to go rogue if that gives them some feeling of control over their lives. No matter how many times you tell a person that the systems they want to trust are broken, they (like Foggy) may continue insisting that everyone should trust the system if they continue seeing the world through a lens of privilege.
Can it be frustrating to watch? Absolutely. Is it a good reason to hate a character? I'd say no, but I guess that's more subjective. Is it a reminder to all of us to be gentle and patient both with ourselves and with other people when we find ourselves making the same mistakes over and over? I hope so!
I've said before that I sometimes feel self-conscious over the fact that, in my longer stories, a character's growth is rarely linear. It's usually what I think of as a spiral. They make a mistake, they learn from it...and then the stakes rise, and so they fall back on that old mistake again, since it's comfortable and familiar, rather than trying a new approach. Or the character tries to blend the old mistake with the new approach, to varying degrees of success. Sometimes I worry that this feels repetitive, or like the character isn't learning.
But from the comments I've received, people seem to appreciate it more often than not. They resonate with it and relate to it.
So now that I think of it...maybe the root problem is simply that Daredevil doesn't have author's notes telling us why Karen (and Foggy and Matt) are making the same mistake again. 😅
Or maybe people are more compassionate towards characters in fanfiction than on TV? Or maybe people are more compassionate towards the main character than the side character? Or maybe it's misogyny? Or maybe people are just less compassionate towards Karen in particular because she threatens their favorite ship.
Aaaaand this post has come full circle.

Q: So Karen knows Frank and Matt. What...relationship would Karen pick between Frank Castle and Matt?
Deborah Ann Woll: Boy. I get asked that question quite often. I... I will always say, I mean, Matt Murdock saved Karen's life at a time when she desperately needed someone to believe her and think better of her than the world did. And I think the—kind of, the love that came out of that selfless act that he made is pretty enduring. I think that Frank—there's a deep love there as well, and they probably understand each other a bit more intuitively. But yeah, I think if Karen ever got the chance, Matt would probably be the person she'd want to spend the rest of her life with. In my opinion. Lots of people have other opinions, but that's my personal opinion.

On rewatch, I can't help but think that the radio show Karen goes on and gets targeted by the bomber in The Punisher was originally planned to be Trish Talk and have Trish make a quick cameo, but maybe scheduling forced them to change it to a random radio host instead.
I think it seems plausible since that seems like something Trish would've wanted to talk about on her show, and she and Karen had previously met on the Defenders, so there's a pre-established link between them.
What could've been...

Hi!! Greetings from 🇵🇪 I hope you have a great day.
What questions would you ask the cast of Daredevil BornAgain, specifically Charlie Cox or Deborah Ann Woll at a convention?
And what would your photo be like with them or any actor in mind?
BESOS Y Abrazos. 🫶🥑🌈
Hola y gracias por sus preguntas! ❤️
We know that both Deborah and Charlie are KD shippers, so I would love to know how they see their relationship developing and playing out in the show.
If I took a pic with them, I can tell you I would have NO chill. My face would probably look something like 😃 but inside I’d be 🫨.

So I was listening to a podcast that Deborah Ann Woll did just after Season 2 came out (I like listening to podcasts about shows I like even if they’re 6 years old, sue me), and she said the following about Matt and Karen’s relationship. She’s so eloquent. It’s like she read my thoughts about why Matt and Karen could be so good together if they were just honest with each other and why it’s so frustrating to watch them dance around each other in Season 2:
“I think that, especially now that we’re exploring some of the romance and the feelings between Matt and Karen...the idea is that they really are so similar and could be a true comfort to one another, but they’re both too scared to show who they really are because these are dark things. I mean, how do you go to someone that you’re falling in love with and say, ‘So, I kind of killed a guy, and I covered it up.’ It’s just...you immediately lose that person. And especially if you think that he is this incredible lawyer who’s gonna save the world through legal means, and here you are going off, you know, sneaking in dark alleys and breaking into people’s houses. You know, as far as Karen knows, she’s the worst that there is of the three of them. And I think, similarly, Matt feels the same. So...I...you know, this is gonna be a journey about the two of them reaching a point where they can be honest with each other.”
Anyway, I hope they get a real chance to try and make their relationship work in Born Again.
