Whumptober 2024 Day 21: Vermin (alt prompt)

The prisoner drained the single glass of water the interrogator had allowed him. His mouth was dry from hours of talking. He had given the interrogator everything.

“Thank you,” the interrogator said. “You’ve been very helpful.” He turned to leave.

“Wait.” The prisoner’s voice shook. “I have one request.”

The interrogator turned, one eyebrow raised.

“Please… let me choose how I die. Let me have some dignity in death.”

The interrogator chuckled. “You’re already dead. The rat poison in that water will kill you like the vermin you are.”

He didn’t spare the prisoner another look as he walked out.
