I’m not a Drowley shipper really, but I’m a BIG fan of them being exes. And the way that Crowley’s character shifts so significantly following his and Dean’s summer of love is so fucking insane. Like, they literally made that part of the plot???? That is not even subtext? They call it the summer of love and they start acting like gay exes who aren’t entirely over it but know that if they can’t be chill then every party they go to for the rest of their lives will be awkward. And the way they have a soft spot for each other still and know each other too well even after they’ve stopped actively going out. Exes Drowley my beloved

Dean's attention starts to slide off her face and then hitches, returns. Crowley smiles out of particularly charming blue eyes. He did pick a winner, after all.

"Can I give you anything else?" Crowley says. He leans on the counter, makes the meatsuit's pretty tits swell forward. The look he applies to her face is direct, knowing. Not the sugary come-on of a child but a woman who knows what she wants and would like to have it, sooner rather than later, if you please.

It works. He knows Dean Winchester quite well, at this point. Dean's mouth tips at the corner and he looks down at his half-drunk bourbon like there's some joke he's told himself and he doesn't find it all that funny, but he's got to play it out regardless because it's what the bit calls for. He drains the drink, and looks up into the girl's face, and says, "Think the question is, what can I give you."

Crowley expects that Dean will take him to the motel room that's been hidden per usual with hex bags and sigils. To be taken to the backseat of that sled of a car is disappointing but not a dealbreaker. Parked quiet behind the bar, neon through the windows. Dean draws Crowley into his lap and shudders when Crowley puts a soft hand on his cheek, his eyes closing like he's in pain when Crowley drags a thumb over his cheekbone, his breath sighing out like a mortal wound when Crowley dips and kisses him not on the mouth but beside it, tender. He lets Dean remove the meatsuit's shirt, her bra, lets him put his face in the warm space between her breasts, miserable and trying to hide it; he removes Dean's jacket and flannel shirt and drags his fingers careful down Dean's arms and pretends to be surprise when he finds the Mark. "Does it hurt," he whispers, and Dean shakes his head and wraps his arm around the girl's waist and wants to pretend he is anyone else, anything else, a man who was good and a man who could be trusted by his brother and a man who could push into this girl's wet and welcoming body and drain all the evil out of him like pus. It won't work and it will hurt to try but for that blistering few seconds, when the world whites out, he will at least not know himself. That counts for something.

Crowley wraps his hand solidly around the Mark and lifts Dean's chin with his other hand, and when Dean's eyes open, pained, and look up through the dark, Crowley smiles again and says, "I've got you," very soft, and Dean kisses him full on the mouth then with his terrified and corrupt soul quivering massive under the thin confines of his skin. He knows Dean Winchester very well.

but re: Castiel --

What a fun thing to consider, haha. It's not actually jealous because in order to be jealous you have to actually possess something -- rather it's envy, because he wants something he doesn't have that other people do. All those years of pining and falling from heaven and nearly causing various armageddons for this cute green-eyed bitch and -- nada. He's used to it with Sam, though, because of course Sam's always had Dean. Even in those brief heady days of the early apocalypse when Dean was too fucked up to look at Sam another minute -- every minute nevertheless was swallowed up by Sam, fearing for him and kinda hating him and missing him so bad. If Cas had had the self-awareness then he might've been able to turn that to his advantage, but he was still blundering around mostly blind then and there was no chance. Plus, we know that the thing Cas admires and loves most about Dean is how Dean loves; if the vast majority of that love is taken up with loving Sam, that's okay.

...But fucking Crowley?? He knows Dean was a demon ("oh, you were a demon?") and so, given how much benefit of the doubt he always gives Dean, he probably assigns all the fault to Crowley -- Crowley who 'absconded' with him, Crowley who encouraged him down demonic paths and so on -- but it must really, really gall that Dean refuses afterward to kill Crowley. He's the bad guy, right? But no: even with a dozen opportunities to take him down, Crowley just keeps living. (Sam also finds this deeply annoying, lol.) And you know Crowley taunts Cas with it, but Dean says they have to work with him so -- Cas will, and it'll grate over his molars, and Crowley will just smirk smirk smirk and say shit like shouldn't cry just because someone else got a piece of the pie, sweetheart.

...Except Crowley didn't really get the pie either, did he? Sex isn't ownership or claiming -- the fact that he had a fivesome with Dean (or anything else) doesn't mean that he really got Dean. It was a shoddy half-version of Dean, anyway, and I think if Cas managed to actually argue about it rather than just being furiously silent he might point that out. Of course, Crowley knows -- he's a demon, not an idiot -- and both he and Cas are very aware of what it means to crave something and have it in reach and never be able to really grasp it.

No wonder they both end up dying to save him. It must have been a relief after all those years of hunger. And Dean's sorry for it, but. He's got Sam. That's a neverending cornucopia, right there.
