if I made a post (this is the post) asking if any of the deadprem folk who follow me have any music that reminds them of the game or certain characters to share them with me, and that I would love to hear them, would anyone be willing to do so ?

You also have the very telling (imo) moment where Thomas stabs her old ID badge, symbolically rejecting their old identity.

You can either read it as Thomas deciding to live openly as a woman from that moment, because what is there to lose, or Thomas having had complicated feelings up until that point made worse by George’s influence, and that’s where they put everything together and are like. Yeah. We’re done with that.

So there's a lot to say but your basic answer is that SWERY has discussed Thomas being trans and refers to her using she/her pronouns in this interview from 2018 [link] (contains spoilers for The Missing)

The point he seems to be making and the point that I want to get into is that this is not a retcon either. Thomas has always been a trans woman, just a closeted one. Further elaboration under the cut

What you have to keep in mind is that this is a trans character written by cis writers back in the late 2000s (The game was in development hell for so long that most of the writing was completed around like 2007ish).

The reason I don't consider the way Thomas was talked about in the later interview to be a retcon is it seems to be more of a case of SWERY learning more about the subject after working with trans consultants when making The Missing.

Even before that interview, I feel like the intention is still clearly there, even if it was poorly handled. For example, in a Q&A from 2010/2011 SWERY mentions that one of his inspiration for Thomas was his friend transitioning [archive link, formatting is broken]

And in the game itself, there's Thomas' inclusion as a goddess. She's not treated an exception. She wears a dress like the others and is referred to as one of "the girls" by multiple characters in the epilogue. So even if you only look at the game itself, she is still acknowledged as a woman, even if it is only in death.

Realtalk this is my piece for @shutendouji for the Deadly Premonition Secret Santa this year!! She mentioned really liking the wall ladies so oBVIOUSLY that’s what I had to draw. .....in retrospect I REALLY hope there wasn’t some other kind of wall lady in deadly prem that I’m forgetting xD but either way I HOPE U LIKE IT I had a lot of fun with this one!!

AAAAA this year I participated in the Deadly Premonition Secret Santa that @michaeltillotson put together. (big thanks for doing all the organizational stuff!! It was fun!) I played Deadly Prem for the first time earlier this year with a group of my good friends, and then with the DP2 announcement, it just seemed like the right time to hop in on the fun fandom experience!!

I got @mpregnateyourocs, who, if I searched their archive correctly, has a fic on AO3 with the tags “Thomas owns a bakery” and “Thomas/Zach” sO UHHH. I HOPE YOU LIKE THIS?? I know they haven’t said hi in your fic yet but like, we all know there will be a delicious biscuit involved, of course,,

i am genuinely never like this. usually when i say "i cant shut up about this" i usually mean like maybe to myself in my head. but deadprem probably the first ever game to make me ACTUALLY not shut up. thifm is measly in comparison because i used to send like maybe 20 messages or so to my friend but deadprem has made me send like 160 best estimate for me. i dont send that many. theres probably more actually
