(I am playing fast and loose with the term “run”. Sometimes I just straight up skip short ones that I don’t like. Additionally, sometimes I just make up the names of arcs if they don’t have one. Sorry)

The early years: Daredevil (1964) 1-159

Skip. I’m sorry old comics but you don’t hold my interest. That said, if you like them, go nuts, but the only part I feel strongly about recommending is the Mike Murdock arc (see below) because it is so wonderfully batshit and fun.

If you would like to read this entire era condensed into a 6 issue recap/retelling, I recommend Daredevil: Yellow

Matt moves to San Francisco and dates Black Widow: 84-122

The Miller run v1 (the ninja edition): 160-191

Here’s a sentence I don’t say often: Frank Miller’s run is a good place to start. A lot of his writing is foundational to the character and he has written some of the most iconic daredevil arcs of all time. While using this as a starting point does throw you right into the action, I think it’s at a good enough place for you to understand what’s going on without reading the previous arcs. This is, uh, not the best era for Matt, both in how he acts and the general circumstances of his life but it does all feel very true to character. Also general warnings for Frank Miller-isms a plenty

The Denny O’Niell Run: 194-226

I don’t have much to say about this run. Good, slightly underrated because it’s in the middle of two of the most famous runs of all time, and does interesting things with the character like taking him out of Hell’s Kitchen, but doesn’t have a real impact on the character in the long term. Black Widow returns, Foggy gets a mustache and loses a wife, and Matt, once again, fucks like there’s no tomorrow. Also, at one point Matt and Bullseye form a psychic link purely because Bullseye hates him so much and I think that’s beautiful.

The Miller Run v2 (the Catholicism edition): 227-233

Just when you thought you were safe… the dark knight returns, and for a character defining arc nonetheless. Same comments as on his first run, though it is important to note that Miller also wrote the miniseries Man Without Fear, which is technically an au, but what he uses as Matt’s backstory and elements from it are adapted into later comics and also Daredevil TV.

The Ann Nocenti Run: 238-291

Criminally underrated and one of, if not the only time, there has been a female writer on daredevil. A lot of really good stuff here that I think gets missed. Unfortunately due to Nocenti’s work writing for other parts of the marvel universe it can be a little entrenched in lore and crossovers at times.

No one ever talks about this run, which is fair because it’s really just kind of serviceable. The art gets godawful halfway through which doesn’t help. Can be skipped if it bores you.

The DeMatteis Run: 343-351

Skip. Unless you want to read about the grim and gritty adventures of armored daredevil.

The Kesel/Kelly Runs: 353-364, 365-375

Technically two different runs that I’m lumping together due to their incredible similarities. Honestly these are a lot of fun, something I can’t alway say for DD comics, and the supporting characters are the best they ever get. It bounces between arcs and what are essentially little one shots of Matt teaming up with or fighting heroes from all around the marvel universe, and that nature of this makes it fairly easy to skip around if you get bored. I recommend it.

A Friend in Need: 374-375

The Kevin Smith Run: Daredevil (1998) 1-9

Skip. While it does have arcs that do have a major impact later, it’s Kevin Smith at his most early 2000s. For the love of God skip it.

The David Mack Run: 9-15

Another good starting place and one I like enough to count as a run. The official ruling? Pretty good, but unfortunate enough to be sandwiched between two very famous runs and very short. Mack does also continue on art until the 20th issue.

Parts of a Hole: 9-15

Echo: 51-55 (this I consider to be a must read, but Parts of a Hole has to be read for context. It is well worth it)

The Bendis Run: Daredevil (1999) 16-19, 26-81

Despite my issues with Bendis’ writing, his Daredevil is a genuinely superb run of comics. This is the run that Daredevil TV takes a lot of inspiration from, at least tonally and it shows because Matt is Going Through it and he will continue to Go Through It for a while. Probably as good of a starting place as the Mack run but I do recommend reading the Mack run. It is very Bendis-y but you can’t ask a horse not to be a horse

Hardcore: 46-50

The King of Hell’s Kitchen: 56-60

The Murdock Papers: 76-81

The Brubaker run: 82-119, 500

Matt’s epic breakdown… 2! I’m not kidding he’s really going through it this run. Brubaker’s run is just as good as Bendis’ run (if not better) in my opinion, but doesn’t get as much praise, which is a shame because it has a lot fewer annoying writing quirks.

The Devil takes a Ride: 89-93

Technically important as it is the culmination of Matt’s epic break down from the ‘98 run, but like, you can skip it if you want to because it’s a whole big event with so many tie ins and the regular non-Shadowland stuff is actually just Shadowland build up and frankly it’s just kind of okay.

Miniseries that transitions from Shadowland to the Waid stuff. Can also be skipped.

The Mark Waid Runs: Daredevil (2011) and Daredevil (2014)

These are two of my all time favorite comics and a definite must read. Great art, great writing, just all around great. If you only read one daredevil comic, actually read two and make those two these

can ihave a peter parker reading list?

yes! there’s obv a lot of peter comics so i’ll try to only include important/good storylines (but sometimes the important stories are not good). also im so sorry if this got messy i am not the best with organization. and if i miss anyth important someone let me know!!!

his first appearance is in amazing fantasy #15! 

amazing spider-man volume 1, tbh it is good and very fun but also incredibly long so if you don’t want to read the whole thing you should look for specific arcs/characters you want to see. if you need help singling out issues you need then let me know and i can make a specific list for characters/arc but i’ll just list some issues that i think are important: 

#1-6: first appearance of some major spidey villains like the chameleon, vulture, doctor octopus, sandman, lizard. you also see spidey’s first interaction with the f4.

#9, 13-16, annual #1, 17-21, 24-25, 31-33: first appearance of electro, mysterio, green goblin, kraven the hunter, scorpion, mj watson, harry osborn, and gwen stacy. spidey and dd also team up for the first time

#39-42, annual #3, 46, 50-56, annual #5, 77-79, 88-90: first appearance of shocker and the prowler, as well as some really important spidey arcs.

#95-98, 119-122, 129-131, 136-137, 142-151: first appearances of the punisher and the jackal. some important doc ock and green goblin arcs. the original clone saga

#182-183, 194-200, 204-205, 238-245, 248-251: first appearance of the black cat and the hobgoblin. some important petermj issues, and aunt may issues. for issue 248, just read the second story (the kid who collects spider-man)

#252, 257, 258-261, 275-277, 279, 290-292, annual #21: first appearance of the symbiote suit, petermj comics

#299-300: first venom appearance

kraven’s last hunt

the clone saga

the spectacular spider-man (1976): #107-110, 134-136 (the death of jean dewolff arc)

the spectacular spider-man (1976): 178-184, 189-190, 199-200 (harry osborn storyline)

amazing spider-man volume 2: okay the best part of vol 2 is definitely straczynski’s run, which i recommend you read all of it, but if you don’t want to do that i’ll recommend just a few issues down below. warning, this is also where sins past and one more day happen but yeah:

#30-35, 37-39, 49-50, 55-56: first appearances of ezekiel and morlun. important aunt may and mj storylines, also shows peter as a teacher.

(starting here, we are still in stracynski’s run, but the issue numbers start at #500 instead, which means you would probably find these issues in the original 1963 run) #501, 505: not incredibly important to the overall plot, but still meaningful issues.

sins past: #509-514 (u rly dont have to read this lol im just putting it here cuz it’s considered important but it’s rly shitty and def can be skipped)

#519-524: peter, mj, and may living with the avengers

spider-man/human torch (2005) (one of my all time fav comics)

the other: evolve or die

#532-545: the war at home, back in black, and one more day. these events are all connected to each other and also to the civil war event so it would be helpful if you have knowledge of what that event is about. this is a really really crappy storyline but also crucially important. this is where stracyznski’s run ends

#587, 590-592, 600, 606-607: petermatt teamup, fantastic four teamup, return of mj and the black cat.

#648-656, fantastic four #588, asm #657-662, 665: peter working at horizon labs, and other important arcs.

spider-island: #666-673 (also not that great but a big spidey event)

#680-681, 698-700: spideytorch issues, and then the beginning of superior spiderman (you dont have to read 699.1)

superior spider-man: hnnnnergh this run got annoyingly long and otto was in peter’s body for a while and i understand if you dont want to read every issue of this so here are a few:

superior spider-man #1-2, 4-5, 9-10, 13-14, 20, 30-31

amazing spider-man volume 3 (if you want to skip over superior spidey come here): tbh a lot of this is just peter fixing his life after all the issues doc ock caused, but it’s not that bad. there are only 20 issues so you can probably read all of them. this run features the debut of cindy moon and also the spiderverse event!

amazing spider-man volume 4: okay tbh probably my least favorite asm run. it’s boring and treats mj badly and aside from a few issues i really do not care for it at all. it’s only 32 issues, so it’s also short enough that you can read it on your own, but yea :’). if u want just completely skip over clone conspiracy there is no point to it

amazing spider-man volume 5 (current run) this run is still ongoing and tbh it’s not that great but it seems to be leading up to something big and it does have nice petermj moments so!!

friendly neighborhood spider-man (2019): my favorite spidey run of all time it is so good in every way you can imagine. if you were to read one spidey run i would definitely recommend it to be this one

spider-man: blue (it focuses on gwen so!!! it’s very emotional)

spider-men (2012): this is when peter and miles meet! i think it’s rly cute and i do like it a lot

you can also check out the gauntlet and grim hunt arcs but i dont care much for them tbh so i didnt rly include them earlier

these aren’t in 616 but i also definitely recommend ultimate spider-man (2000) and (2009). they’re definitely long so if u need a reading guide for them let me know!!

also just bc i Need everyone to love spideytorch here is a spideytorch reading guide bc i included some of their issues but def not all of them so! this is a small list but it links the like Major list with every spideytorch issue so!!

New rule for myself: no picking out treats while drunk lol

Friday I had some hard seltzers with my girl friend and we had a good time. I had 5 or 6 seltzers where I usually only have 1-2 at a time (I'm a huge lightweight). Then on the way home I asked to stop at Domino's for their little lava fudge cakes. I don't think I've ever even had them before and I can't remember for the life of me why I suddenly needed some lol

So at the end of the night I had wracked up a bunch of calories from ordering out for dinner, drinking a bunch of seltzers, and eating 2 lava fudge cakes and only sharing some of one with my DD lol

And then I didn't do great on my calories over the weekend either. But at the end of the day, I had a good time, and it's very easy for me to reign it in during the week. I also ended up with a stomach ache that served as a nice reminder that I feel much better when I'm eating healthier and in normal portions. It's harder to go overboard when it makes you feel bad.

So I might not get a great weigh-in at the beginning of next month, but I'm still making progress. Last month around this time I was fluctuating around 205-208, and now I'm fluctuating around 203-205. So the number on any given day might not reflect my progress, but I see it.
