WIP excerpt for Plot Bunny behind the cut; "Clark panic-adopts his teenage clones (yes, including the supervillain one)". (( chrono || non-chrono ))

“Um,” Thirteen says, glancing at the box warily. “So like, you want us to . . . wear that? Like, your, uh–your old . . .” 

“Better fit for the farm, like I said,” Superman says. Match does not understand how Superman thinks either of them is any kind of “fit” for this environment no matter how he dresses. “If nothing else, Lara’s going to need civilian clothes, so if these fit him alright that’ll mean we don’t have to find him a whole wardrobe all at once.” 

“Uh,” Thirteen says, looking–uncomfortable. Match stares blankly at Superman and attempts to reconcile literally a single thing in this conversation, but is mostly stuck on: 

a) is Superman expecting him to regularly wear civilian clothes? 

and 

b) is Superman under the impression that Thirteen owns civilian clothes? 

“Also means you don’t have to loan him half your wardrobe,” Superman adds wryly. Match cannot believe that he’s been stolen by an idiot that rivals Thirteen, but no wonder the Agenda had to modify his DNA to keep him from being an idiot. 

“Uh–right,” Thirteen says, looking uncomfortable. Match vaguely despises all of existence, but specifically the existence of every idiot whose unaccompanied DNA ever wound up in a petri dish and made him have to put up with existing himself. 

“Thirteen doesn’t own civilian clothes,” he says flatly. 

“I own clothes, asshole,” Thirteen says, bristling a little. 

“Are you referring to the abandoned beachwear on the floor of your closet or the collection of mismatched socks founding a civilization under your bed?” Match asks dryly. Thirteen turns red and bristles a lot. 

“I–fuck you!” he sputters, visibly embarrassed. “And stop fucking creeping around my bunk, Christ!” 

“Maybe you should be more worried about your employers who run a cloning lab being stupid enough to just let any familiar face walk in through the front door with no questions asked,” Match points out still more dryly. “Just in terms of things you can affect and should be concerned about.” 

“You’re such a fucking shithead,” Thirteen snaps, glowering at him, then looks briefly even more embarrassed and glances at Superman’s parents with a wince. “Uh . . . I mean . . .” 

“. . . Kon,” Superman says with a strange expression. “Do you actually not–” 

Superman cuts himself off, and Thirteen turns red, half-cringing in on himself for a moment before visibly forcing himself to straighten up in his seat and draw himself up to take up space again. 

Stupid, Match thinks, entirely unsurprised by said stupidity. 

“I mean, why would I, man? Not like I really do undercover or whatever,” Thirteen replies with a casual shrug, which fully reinforces the “stupid” assessment, as ever. Thirteen has mastered living down to expectations, in Match’s experience. “Usually Rob just digs something up for me if we gotta go someplace under the radar.”

Superman looks very strange.

People In Kon's life That Should Meet Up (because it would be cool)

Pa Kent & Guardian: They will maximize their Concerned Dad energy to pester Kon to have better life decisions

Ma Kent & Martha Jr. (and Lophi): Lophi allowed Kon to name their kid after Ma Kent, Martha, even though she did not know about that woman! Let them meet up!! Ma would get so emotional holding a child named after her specifically! She would be smitten that Kon did what she did for him when he was younger and Clark when was a baby. He helped a stranger and raised a kid because they needed help, safety, and protection. Imagine her bragging rights after their meet up and talking with her husband- Yeah, Clark and Lois named their son after you, but Kon named his adopted daughter after me so...we are both winning :D

Aura (Lindsay) and Kong Kenan: They would become fast friends after one session of shit-talking the Chinese Gov't. Aura got hunted down by gov't enforcers with the help of her own father and Kenan had been given the startling realization his mother would choose her gov't loyalty over the kid she had.

Kaliber and Kong Kenan: All three of them (Kaliber, Kenan, and Kon) can maximize their Superman fanboy energy and become an unstoppable force of glee over a hero they look up to!

Natasha Irons & Hero Cruz: First off: Black Lesbian-Gay solidarity representation!! Also I think they would be an amazing people to be around in parties and just in general. They would make great friends to me and each other. Hero bringing his calm and chill vibes (and his boyfriend, Leander) and Natasha decides to make...certain upgrades the liqueur storage. Hero won't stop her but will enable every wild invention idea she has!

Natasha Irons & Aura: First off, the combine energy of badass tactically minded and inventive women! Aura has the ability to control every piece of metal near her. She is so good at it she can form armor from metal scraps with a single thought! Natasha is a brilliant inventor who could build anything if she put her focus into it! Also, they just bring a lot of fun and personal joy in everything they do. They don't forget to be themselves no matter how hard their current situation is- and that shared feeling is starting point for a friendship and maybe something more!

Hillary & Robert and Lolina: I just wanted to include Lolina in this list. Anyway! I can see them making light-hearted jokes on Kon's expense and maybe Under The Sea adventures! Perhaps, Hillary and Robert are interested to get to know Lolina as a person and first merfolk they have ever seen and be more knowledgeable about the sea! Lolina can have other to show off her herd of Sharks!

Jimmy Tilton & Match: Okay! This is another 'I want to see them again' inclusion I made because I've been obsessed with Match since September 2024 and I've loved that comic issue of Jimmy and Kon! Anyway, they were both screwed over by researchers and scientists with dubious morals. They have been dehumanized a lot by the adults and supposed caretakers in their life and seen more as a product than a person. I don't know how their friendship would go- Maybe Jimmy teaches Match to be more like a person that could form their own wants and needs and act on those ambitions and passions. Maybe Match comforts Jimmy with the strangeness of his existence and maybe even find a method or something that could help with Jimmy's condition (Don't remind me that Jimmy T. is dead, let me be at peace in Delululand)

Summary:

Match and Thad’s lives intersect once more after so many years. They’ve gone through so much and now together again they find comfort in each other and that things have changed.

Excerpt:

How long had they been like this? Thad wondered. Bare limbs splayed from beneath the blanket, sharing in each other’s warmth, Match’s arm wrapped around him, his head pressed to Match’s chest listening to the other’s heart beat strong and solid in his ear as the seconds of the early morning passed them by. They looked like some damnable couple.  ‘We’re not.’ Thad has to to remind himself and wonders what Match thinks when he sees that they’re close together like this. In his mind, this situation was a mutual agreement, one silently made, and nothing more. It was temporary. He reminds himself. A distraction from the loneliness and the confounding world they were trying to make sense of. Heroes and villains came and went. Death wasn’t always permanent in their world, but it didn’t hurt any less. People changed sides too. Life, death, revival, ruination, redemption, and…limbo. It was their complicated form of normalcy. It was too tiring to consider, and too much to worry about when it came to semantics. They had just been happy to see one another when their paths had finally crossed again. Thad had never considered the possibility. It was a habit of his to not entertain hope or hold onto the idea of a permanent happiness. It never was for him after all. He had to accept that. Match shifted at his side and Thad couldn't help but let out a sigh. For now they had settled for a day by day approach. It was easier that way. Less to think about, and for a mind that went a mile a minute like Thad’s, it was better that way. Slipping from the sheets and from Match’s grasp and the warmth of the bed Thad began another day. He didn't want to think about the end just yet.

First off, thank you for telling me about this!!! I'd love to know what comic this appearance is in if you happen to know?

Second, while I am so excited to see him I am mixed about his return. Though, I am always a bit skeptical when DC bring my favorites out to play again because you never know what you're getting writing wise or whether the writer will do their character justice.

With what I see here? Mrrrmhhhhh...I'm not excited to see that boring and uncreative all-black Superman suit again (like it's not a good costume design. It's got nothing going on for him, and it gives footy-pajama vibes.) or him being a part of Waller's 'Justice League' if it's still being called that.

He does look handsome in the art, which I love, but it really feels like to me they're just going to be sticking Match into a mold without really considering his character. He states in his last appearance (back in Suicide Squad) that he doesn't want to be a 'carbon copy' and yet here he is wearing what is essentially a Superman suit and filling a role :/ which I'm not pleased with (Please DC let Match explore his own identity.)

I don't know what the writer has planned for Match, if anything significant or if he's just filling a position in the team, but I am skeptical and I don't have high hopes. I don't think they'll do him justice if he's still a a part of Waller's 'League,' cause it feels like he's just filling the space of having a Kryptonian/someone with super-strength on the team. And I hope that this new suit isn't the new norm for him cause I'm personally not a fan of it at all.
