I really see Tim and Damian's relationship as very much like Apollo and Hermes' (see: cattle robbery, bribery, complaining to Dad but ultimately Dad just shrugs and goes, sorry kids you gotta get along).

I knew I was getting it, because I’m the one who sent my grandparents the link when they asked me to sent them something around $40 for them to buy me for Christmas, but it still made me very excited to see it when I opened their gift. 🥰

Headcanon:
Like many fans, I’ve read some fics where DC characters get turned into animals.
In the ones I’ve read, Superman becomes a lion or canine. However, I read one Clex fic that compares Superman’s soul to that of a galactic space bird & I couldn’t help but think how fitting it was
I propose that Superman would turn into a species of bird native to Krypton.
He’d resemble a mix of Asian Phoenix, canon Nightwing bird, Bird of Paradise, peacock, luan, Kryptonian crystal bird, and eagle.
His plumage would be blues that would shimmer in light yet blend in the shadows.
He’d be tall with a long & graceful neck. Atop his head would be a few feathers sticking up like a subtle crown.
His talons and beak are sharp and would be deadly. Yet their beauty is reminiscent of a treasured sword.
His voice, even when used as a warning call, is melodious. If one were to get him to sing, it be comparable to Apollo playing the lyre.
The time he shines the most, however, is in flight.
Gracefully going through the air, a few long tail feathers trailing behind like a woman’s hair or a dress train. His huge size is not an obstacle as he cuts through the foliage of tree tops.
His beautiful feathers, that sparkle in such a way it looks like crystals, do not get in the way of forage and hunting.
Graceful yet deadly talons, stained either with juice of berries or animals depending on the omnivorous bird’s needs.
As he skims a body of water, either to play or clean himself during flight, it is beyond description.
He is grace & pride in motion.
A bird of paradise & prey.
Now imagine Lex Luthor having the nerve to cage said bird either in a literal cage or an indoor jungle garden.

Tav Tuesday Redux: Talinthe Vel, the Hidden Hand
Reviving LTB Tav Tuesdays, just this once, to do something I haven't in quite a while: building an original character! Meet Talinthe of House Vel:
Tumblr media
If that name sounds slightly familiar, well...let's work out why. The conceit this time is I'm making one new for BG3, instead of importing an existing older character from tabletop/5e. This is gonna be messy, so please bear with me:
I'm using BG3 to create someone who will work in that context as well as in one of my homebrew settings. I'm stealing the plot idea of Minthara surviving a crazy ordeal of exile and trauma to take over her new adopted home city from the inside. For this I need a lady drow, sure, but given that I already have one (as a PC/NPC, whom I’ve already shown) I need to distinguish this new character from not only other famous drow but also my own older OCs. I'm also pairing her up with my beloved swords bard, because her character arc was inspired by my bard's BG3 dynamic and plot arc as played with a romanced Minthara, and because Madam Baenre simply won't fit (and probably doesn't belong) in my homebrew game.
To (mostly) avoid cliché, I'm passing on Drizzt-style do-goody rangers, Viconia-style clerical melodrama, and Minthara-style mother-hating vengeance. However, that doesn't mean I can't combine smaller aspects of each (as well as some of my own) in order to make a compelling person. But this has to be a person and not a stat block. As much as I'm fascinated by the idea of a drow as a gloom stalker/assassin, that's both a clichéd powergamer build and something another of my characters can feasibly morph into, so that's out. I've yet to satisfactorily crack the code of the Fighter class in tabletop (I've made several, all unplayed), but my DEX-based builds of Minthara and Lae'zel helped me get the hang of mélee characters outside of my favorite class types (I usually go for experts: bards/rogues/rangers).
Tumblr media
So for a gish-type build I'm leaning toward Eldritch Knight, or some combo of EK with a rogue subclass. Drow are at least a bit magical, and for homebrew I'm unburdened by the lore of Loth-sworn, so my Seldarine-like warrior can be magical for [reasons]. In 5e an EK/Rogue multiclass might be easy, RP-wise: the Rogue's mechanically underwhelming but RP-rich Mastermind subclass works well for a Moriarty-type character who wants to gain control of a city from the shadows.
However this build is highly Multiple-Ability-Dependent (in my case, DEX/CON/INT). Happily, BG3 offers many items to help build MAD characters, so for this one I can focus on DEX/CON and use the Intellect Headband to boost INT. Alfira can also teach her how to play an instrument, so the Spider Lyre can be useful. Eldritch Knights don't need lots of INT for their spellcasting; my understanding is they should use utility cantrips (Blade Ward) and spells (Shield, Expeditious Retreat) that don't rely on the Spell Save DC.
Tumblr media
Working with abilities/builds at the start will only get me so far, though. No build can create a character unless that character already has their own personality. So, back to piecing together this person with aspects of others and a few personal details of my own (that's always how I've made my OCs and, I'll wager, is how many authors make theirs. "Originality" doesn't figure in). From famous drow like Drizzt/Jarlaxle/Viconia/Minthara I'll swipe the "loner/exile" trope. From Drizzt and Minthara I'll take "warrior." From Viconia and Minthara I'll take "middle-aged noble." From Jarlaxle I’ll take “hidden puppet-master.” From my own homebrew world I'll take details for background/setting/etc.
Her surname "Vel" is a truncation of the drow velkyn (hidden), and also swiped from Faye Marsay's rebel spy in Andor. Her given name "Talinthe" is built on an obvious near-rhyme of Calanthe, the Witcher's Warrior Queen of Cintra. I’ve never read those books and so was introduced to Calanthe by the glorious Jodhi May, whom I've crushed on for decades, ever since she played the doomed Alice Munro in Last of the Mohicans. Talinthe is much less royal and much less doomed, but I've already decided she's a noble used to power (like Calanthe), so let's make her a second daughter (like Alice). That gives her a reason to be away from/ambivalent toward her family (maybe a bit like Vanessa Kirby's Princess Margaret).
Tumblr media
That last bit brings me back to my other stunningly attractive female drow OC, a younger archfey warlock named Qiranna (whose 5e portrait looks sorta like a drow Vanessa Kirby), but Qiranna's BG3 appearance got too visually wrapped up in the character creator's many options. She became less herself and more "what looks coolest in the character creator and oooh also a bit Minthara because yes please." So maybe Talinthe can take on the more superficial Minthara visual aspects, plus a bit of conventional-drow topknot-discipline (which, probably not coincidentally, was part of Qiranna's original Heroforge look I made circa 2021). The look allows Talinthe to be herself and Qiranna to be herself in both 5e and BG3. They’re probably still insufficiently unique from one another, but I don’t care:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why? Because I think I have it now: A character I want to play (as a PC in BG3 and NPC in 5e). A noble daughter who's the "spare" part of "heir and a spare," whose incorrigible youth earned her expulsion or at least distance from her family, but whose ambition and personal standards became refined with age and trauma into a single-minded, ruthless focus on attaining power and station in her own right. If she gets entangled with a washed-up Lost Singer along the way, well, so much the better for that lucky bastard. I'm sure many will think that's a whole bundle of clichés, but whatever. All my best characters are made that way, and they're good enough for me.

Modron, Quarton
Tumblr media
Image © @tredlocity
[In the original Monster Manual 2, quartons have absolutely no unique abilities whatsoever. Which allowed them to be a blank slate for me. So I gave them powers of crafting and construction, and also a bunch of references to the spells and magic items of original AD&D that assumed that high level characters would settle down and build their own dungeons. On a related note, is the lyre of building a joke about Nero? Or is there some myth or story about construction sped up by playing a lyre that I don’t know?]
Modron, Quarton CR 18 LN Outsider (extraplanar) This humanoid giant has four arms, two enormous and two small. It has fan-like wings growing from its back, and a head like a helmet. A symbol of a diamond sits on the center of its forehead.
Quartons are the modron hierarchs that represent Primus’ mastery over artifice. They are engineers and builders of incredible skill, mixing magical and mundane techniques to create buildings and tools that are unparalleled throughout the planes. They often act as architects and supervisors, coordinating the efforts of lesser modrons to perform the bulk of the labor, and then adding the finishing touches to optimize efficiency. As such, a single quarton may oversee construction projects throughout Regulus, delegating to a team of decatons for most of the day-to-day affairs.
Although quartons have four arms, they are decidedly uneven in size. The smaller pair is used for spellcasting, while the larger pair is used for combat and manual labor. A quarton typically carries a massive two-handed hammer as a badge of office, and blows with this hammer can shatter inanimate objects and clear earth and stone with ease. A quarton often focuses its strikes in combat on enemy gear rather than on their flesh, hoping to demoralize foes and persuade them of the wisdom of surrender. If this fails, or if fighting chaotic enemies, the quarton instead fights with maximum lethal efficiency.
As quartons rarely leave the bustle of Regulus, they provide tools in order for other modrons to fulfill the will of Primus on other planes or planets. Their workshops build the vast majority of the weapons wielded by modrons, and they also provide hierarchs on the Great Modron March with tools for securing and defending territory. Instant fortresses, lyres of building, and simple scrolls of stone shape and move earth are provided to expeditionary forces. On the rare occasions where a quarton leaves Regulus, it is usually to inspect a site captured by modrons to determine if it is suitable for long-term occupation, and to design fortifications to spec if it is.

The abilities granted must be appropriate for the type of weapon or armor, and the quarton cannot confer any ability with an alignment other than lawful. A quarton cannot use this ability on the same piece of equipment multiple times at once, but can use it to increase the enhancement of already magical weapons or armor. A bonus conferred in this way lasts for 20 minutes. A quarton can use this ability a number of times per day equal to its Charisma modifier. Spells A quarton casts spells as an 18th level cleric with access to the Artifice domain. Titanic Strikes (Su) A quarton deals double damage to inanimate objects with its weapon attacks, and can use any tool to clear earth or stone as per a mattock of the titans. Ultimate Craftsman (Ex) A quarton gains a +8 racial bonus to all Craft skills, and gains four item creation feats as bonus feats. A quarton can create non-magical items in ¼ the time as normal. By meditating for eight hours, a quarton can change one or more of the Craft skills it is trained in to another Craft skill.

if your bg3 character had a quest title, what would it be, and how would they act as a companion? (Durges and Tavs!)
My Durge, Votum, would have his quest be called “Canary of the coal mine.” Coal mine being the cult of Bhaal, and Votum being the canary because he is able to quickly identify the full dangers of the cult, like how canaries are able to identify the dangers of the coal mine before anyone else. (And also he sing good)
And a little extent into him as a companion, to gain his approval, the one main thing Votum appreciates is having loyalty. So, he’ll dissaprove of betraying the grove, and generally dislikes if you don’t show some support to the companions true natures.
He also appreciates kindness when necessary, giving to those who have less, but are able to make fun of the people who are worse.
A few events he can have (might think of more)
Warning, spoilers for Durge stuff
Around the start of act 1, if you get at least 10 approval with him, he’ll approach you about his dark thoughts. If you don’t take him seriously, you lose a little bit of approval, but he doesn’t care as much because none of the others took him seriously either. If you do take him seriously, he’ll be surprised, and rant to you a bit about it, and it nets you approval. (+5)
When alfira arrives at camp, the two of them will get along great, and with your encouragement, will duet together, and will play a few songs before turning in for the night. If the player character is a bard, they will be invited to join in as well.
in the morning, the player is greeted by the gruesome surprise of alfira’s corpse, and Karlach (or another party member) questioning Votum. He says a boar got her, which most of the party gets convinced by, but if the player succeeds a dc 20 insight check (he has an expertise in persuasion) the player will recognize that he isn’t being truthful. If the player talks to Astarion, he will also imply that he has his doubts about Votum’s story.
At the tiefling party, Votum will be playing his lyre for a crowd. If the player talks to him after, he’ll explain that he wanted to play because Alfira isn’t able to anymore. If the player succeeds a dc 15 insight check, they will notice a sad glint in his eye. (Which can also be implied by him rubbing his eye after saying that.) And if he has enough approval with the player, he’ll ask them if they want to take a walk in the forest once everyone goes to sleep. This can either lead to a nsft scene, or if the player isn’t up for that, you’re given the option to just have a wholesome talk and maybe a cuddle. (Automatically goes to a wholesome talk minus the cuddle if playing as non-upgraded Karlach)
However, if he doesn’t have enough approval with the player, he’ll make a comment asking what you think of Astarion, and if the player chose to have Astarion’s scene, he will admit he’s slightly jealous.
Votums confession of love to the player is… something. He’ll wake the player up, saying that they are in immediate danger. If the player dismisses his worries, he will genuinely beg and plead for them to listen, tearing up a bit in the process. Votum will explain his situation, admitting to killing Alfira, and how he’ll be poessed into killing his favourite person - you. Then, he’ll faint from what is discerned as a skull-splitting headache. The player is then given a choice to either tie him up, or just go to sleep. Sleeping results in death, of course. If they tie him up, the player enters a scene similar to the one in the Durge campaign, except you’re on the side of the companion. His actions are (almost biting his tongue off, - trying to bite you, - growling.)
When the sun rises, the player is able to easily convince Votum to explain himself. He will, and admit that he wishes he could’ve explained his feelings for the player in a tamer scenario, and the player is given a choice to force him to leave, or allow him to stay. He will leave willingly. If you allow him to stay, you can say you either love him or don’t. If you do, he admits that he must’ve killed so many innocents, and you’d be better off to just kill him. But if you continue to support him, he’ll say he’ll try his hardest to be the person you see in him.
(An alternate scene if the player didn’t romance Astarion nor Votum, you’ll wake up to Astarion explaining that Votum almost killed him, and Votum giving the full story. They will be implied to be in a relationship if the player enters a relationship with a different character.)
small extra notes about romanced Votum
he’ll write a love song about the player, which after an event where he plays it to you, you’ll be able to make him play the melody of the song if you swap to his character.
Gortash gets a tiny bit jealous if you act really loving to Votum. If you’re a human, he’ll ask Votum if he has a type.
If you’re a gnome or a halfling, he’ll just occasionally pick you up sometimes. For literally no reason. Just to hold you. (He’s like 6’4)
He’ll willingly go up on the stage with Dribbles the clown
He’s a big people-pleaser, and thinks that if he argues against your wishes, you’ll throw him away.
does the thing that cats do when they love someone, and will occasionally slow blink at the player
Upon realizing the cult of bhaal may come after you, he’ll try to convince you to break up with him, as he’s extremely scared of losing the one person who let him let go of his past.

Zoruan and the Very Long 72 Hours
More yapping under the cut, spoilers for Act 2
I convinced Shadowheart to spare the Nightsong by passing the DC 30 check on the first try. I didn't have to make a save for Gale because we're besties and I had already talked him out of blowing himself up. (Now if only I could get the button to do so off his hotbar...) I didn't send any screenshots of the Myrkul fight to my phone but a Paladin with Divine Smite and Sentinel and Smite the Graceless is absolutely stacked against Myrkul and I wish I'd gotten a video of the curb-stomping. I'd been aiming for a Minthara run this whole time because I'm going for Gale with my Origin!Astarion run, and I was really nervous it wouldn't work out because I've been a very good person, but her conversation on Ketheric's throne can net you tons of points if you butter her up, and immediately afterwards she initiated her romance scene so it all worked out. (I gave Minthara the Performer feat so she can play her Spider Lyre bc I thought it would be a nice touch.) Zoruan has been mistrustful of the Dream Visitor from the get-go (the only reason they didn't kill them when the option to came up is because I googled if it was a good idea first lol) so them turning out to be a mindflayer was secretly so vindicating for them, even if they have to keep working with him. After he forced me to take the Astrally-Touched Tadpole I offered it to Minthara because she's the only one in my party who I've been feeding tadpoles to (Cull the Weak is incredible) and I thought she would like it, and she immediately gobbled it up. Not sure how I feel about the look, or how little time I had as her partner before this went down, but it does feed into the "immensely powerful paladin duo" thing I've got going on with them. I wasn't expecting to make it to Act 3 this quickly (and to be fair I did fuck up and finish Act 1 too early) and I'm excited to see how things play out!
Zoruan likes Minthara because she didn't immediately want to sleep with them (they're not sex-repulsed or anything just put off by people seeing a tall beefy butch half-orc and going 'i want you' when there's more important things to be doing) and because she kicks ass on the battlefield. They also have a bond as paladins even though they have different specifications (Devotion and Vengeance respectively). Even though they're differently aligned, Minthara has a softer (or at least pragmatically sympathetic) side, and Zoruan can be just enough of a bastard to be worth knowing. They call her their ukurn (monstrous spider in Orcish) and they're surprisingly kind of a wifeperson for an Upholder of Justice and Savior of the People whose spouse dreams to rule the Sword Coast. She wakes up in the morning and they say "good morning, your horribleness. what cruel and horrific conquests face you today?" and she makes out with them. It's very cute and also weird and fucked up.
