You know what would've been a very slight, very mild but still significant improvement to DBH?

If Connor's model had been swapped with the HK-400.

Genuinely - that would've been a great layer to add to the story! Have this black android sent to catch runaway slaves, join the cops, be forced to stay there even though you hate how racist your partner is to you while your black supervisor can only sigh and tell you to endure it (adding to her story, 'cause then you'd get the vibe of 'Ohh, is Amanda speaking from experience? Does she know what Connor's having to ignore in order to do his job and ingratiate himself to Hank?'), get threatened and mocked endlessly by white cops, get dismissed by black cops, and reeeeeeeally wrench in the horror of Markus making such an appeal to Connor joining them, all to be met with Machine!Connor going, "Nice try. But I'm no deviant."

5 bonus points for the endlessly fun time I'd have going, "ohhhhh-hohohohho, David Cage, I know what you wanted to say, you fucking racist," which is sadly not overt enough as-is for me to do right now 😔

5 bonus points for the proper commitment to 'Android on Android' violence that David Cage cowered away from at the last second 😒

100 points for the inevitable day David Cage goes, "We didn't think his race mattered :( we could've made Connor black, white, blue, purple, or green - wait, why are you angrier at me now?!?!" 🤩

I just think if David Cage couldn't make his racist, sexist, homophobic game with a black Connor, everything else staying the same, then it's proof it was NOT HIS FUCKING PLACE to be making this game at all. And the fact that he didn't make this game with a black Connor means he's got the backbone of a sponge. It would've had actual chances to be poignant! Coming face-to-face with a racism allegory while you're playing through IRL examples of racism, yet still choosing to side with your "CREATORS" that you're STILL loyal to?! That would've actually been art.

It's still sloppy! Doesn't save the everything else of this game. But it would've been improved. It would've had something to say (however equally accidental and back-patting it would've continued being), and could've shown it instead of visually screaming it in your face with a "hurr hurr pick your revolution's logo" minigame.

if you think about it, daniel and shaolin are the deviants that connor never has a chance to spare (unless you purposely choose not to find shaolin). even if you take actions for a "peaceful" approach and be sympathetic to them, their ends are violent. does this haunt connor? the ones he encountered before he had enough software instability to choose to another way?

initially for this day i was gonna publish a 5 page comic that i've been working on but that wasn't happening in time so i came up with this concept. the violence the was the foundation for peace. the ones you can't save. sorry in advanced to daniel and shaolin fans. i made them look kinda spooky on purpose. 'tis the season after all lol.

Honestly, this fic is partly in honor of the HK400. He didn't deserve what happened to him and I hope Android heaven is real so he can finally get a break.

For story purposes, the blood makes less sense in I Robot contexts which is partly why version 1 exists, but I guess I wanted to have my cake and eat it too in terms of design variants here.

I think I might finally know how to draw Hank now lol, but who knows. He just seems much more like himself here than when I attempted him in Part 2.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying making this series. It took me by surprise; I didn't plan on making more than one of these in the beginning, but now I just keep thinking about how to expand things and combine the different worlds.

Soon, I'm going to post an alternate version of this piece, with a bit more...red in the final panel, to be more faithful to how Ortiz's Android appears in-game.

Do you continue the dbh box boy au anymore..? If so I have a suggestion for some characters that would fit the au.

Characters: ralph, carloses hk400 and mabey either Rupert or luther

Why: ralph is a pained character that got attacked randomly by the haters (idk y but I love him in pain hehe) and would be a good target for those who run the company, carloses hk400 or shaolin I think he's called went through extreme ªbųsə already so it's pretty easy for him, for Rupert it's the same situation as ralph with him being vulnerable but for Luther it has to do with his time at zlatkos (zlat is not someone you would willingly go to but oh well)

Ralph isn’t in my AU but I agree he’s perfect as a bb, you don’t even need to convince me 😭. You can add him to your version since I’m so bad with multiple storylines 😭😭, also bc Luther already has a place in my universe.

day 4 of my dbh drawtober 2024: "npc in connor's story"

i picked shaolin (carlos ortiz's android) for this prompt bc he deserves more love!! i wish there was a way to save him. he's got such pretty eyes i swear. i depicted him with begonias because they can symbolize caution and consideration as well as good communication. i feel like it fits him bc if you aren't cautious while interacting with him you can get connor killed. good communication and consideration is required to avoid death.

bc i'm on a bit of a time crunch, i didn't add any shading or color to his portrait. i really liked how the linework turned out though!!! it took me 1.5 hrs to finish. honestly, i've been liking how my art looks just as linework lately. maybe i just need to get better at coloring hahah.
